    I'd check both ArmA 2 and OA are updated to the correct versions, you can see them on the main menu screen. ArmA 2 - 1.11 OA - 1.62 Make sure you have run both games once to complete installation. Make sure the directory paths in DayZCommander settings are correct.

    Alpha test, closed alpha, even more closed alpha?

    There is a closed testing team of 30-100 people that have had access since Feb (including reddit/forum mods, support staff, BIS employees), those same people are doing a large scale test of the new client-server architecture today. I don't know when streamers and youtubers etc are getting access though, I vaguely remember Rocket saying if it's good enough for streamers then it's good enough for release so not sure what the plan is with that anymore. It's either going to go straight from closed testing > alpha release or there will be some point inbetween where streamers/youtubers and some other community members get access before the general public.

    Well that explains it, pretty much not going to happen then. I was hoping they could expand it to the West, add in that Miroslavi river, maybe add the Black Moutains to the North (would be good for a cave system) but guess not.

    Short answer is No. They use Steam for everything not just distribution. The anti-cheat is tied into steam (VAC) , all updates are done via Steams delta patching, servers and match making are handled by Steams matchmaking API, fraud protection and anti-piracy features are built into steam etc.

    Cannot install DayZ

    I vaguely remember people fixing that by copying their ArmA 2\Addons folder and pasting into ArmA 2 Operation Arrowhead\Addons The mods aren't region based, if you want to play DayZ you will need to have DayZ installed, if you want to play another mod you will need to install that.

    The game relies on Steam for everything, you need it to play. Rocket has spoken about this previously so I'll just copy paste.

    I don't have much interest in the internet radio streaming aspect but I'm sure someone will do something really cool with it. Radios sound really awesome though, I can't wait to bait someone into a trap using them.

    Cannot install DayZ

    Since you are using retail versions you will first need to patch ArmA 2 up to 1.11 and OA up to 1.62, it may require multiple patches depending on what version you are on now , for example if OA is currently on 1.50 you will need to update from 1.50- 1.60 and then again from 1.60-1.62.(you can see your current version on the main menu screen of both ArmA and OA.) You can get the patches from here: http://www.arma2.com/supply/game-updates Once that is done: 1. Run both ArmA 2 and OA once to complete installation. 2. Download DayZCommander from http://www.dayzcommander.com 3. Run DayZCommander and click the "install/update" button from the top menu. 4. Click "Install" next to ArmA 2. Wait for the download and install to complete. 5. Click "Install" next to DayZ. Wait for the download and install to complete. 7. Filter "DayZ only" from the dropdown box on the left and join a server, if you want to play other mods/maps you will need to install them separately via the install/update menu.

I think it's pretty poor personally, he used to post both here and on the subreddit fairly regularly but nowadays the only time he is on the forums is if there is a dev blog (which we know are pretty sporadic) or there is some major controversy (Can Gate). It really doesn't take any more time to make a couple of posts in a topic here then it does elsewhere. I do find it a bit odd that the official forums are always the last place to get any information about the game. Spread your love around Rocket! Maybe someone should ask him on Reddit/Twitter?

Tomorrow I'll confirm details of the server/client success or failure and that will give us the timeframe we need to be more concrete about future milestones. It marks the end of our last major exploratory work. Only thing required for release is server/client architecture. Rest will be in if its done. Twitter updates I can do while I am compiling, but devblogs and images and videos take more time. We don't have long till E3 and we ALL want to do the alpha ASAP. So I'd dead focused on these. How is the server architecture performing? I haven't said anything yet, because I haven't talked to our lead programmer as he was away today. Tomorrow he is back and I'll report then. But essentially, I've been told is "effectively complete". If this is the case, then it needs testing and much of my work needs to be modified to fit with it. But that would be very good news. Following up on the twitter comment about zombies attacking while running.. Just showed matt how this looks, it's actually working really well. Kind of crazy but in a good way, the zombies run at you attacking directly. They will be dangerous in large numbers. They are much more likely to hit you in standalone but the effect is less marked. I.e. they are like a person running after you and hitting you. Can you still exploit the zombie behavior (running up hills for example) I think that as a result of playing any game for a length of time, you figure out how to "game the system" a bit. My aim is to make zombies more of a fluid part of the game, more "authentic" in the sense of how they move and react. Along the way want to reduce exploits, but I am sure there will still be some. Rice? Cooking as a part of crafting? Can we prepare sushi? Cooking yes. Food can be prepared which is safer and more nutritious. So bandages evolved into IV Starter kits? Bandages (military), dressings (civilian), and the IV kits are broken down into several parts which you craft together. The starter kit + what you are inserting. E.g. painkiller drugs, saline, transfusion, etc. Nearly everyone now believes crafting will be the cornerstone of the game really Is the ability to poop still going to be in the standalone? It's not a priority but it's an open question. We want to try it and if it's not good we'll remove it Where do you place standalone compared to the mod both in terms of content and on the optimization/technical side? They are on different planet's. They are entirely different and almost impossible to compare Rockets posts on Liriks twitch stream: Are player animations improved? God the new player animations are SO much better than the mod's Are the radios in? Radio talking is working, which is REALLY cool. SS13 style radios and streaming radios in game from internet sites. What about vehicles? Vehicles are priority for alpha, we want to entirely redo vechiles, might leave some in but they'll be ripped out Any news on a release date? I would say it is very close. Tomorrow we will say how close. I'm pretty confident you will all be streaming standalone tests VERY soon. Are you going to be at E3 Yes, we have a booth there.

    Those install guides linked above are really outdated. I'd just use DayZCommander to manage your DayZ installation once you have ArmA and OA installed. 1. Install ArmA and Operation Arrowhead, run them both once to complete installation. 2. Download DayZCommander from http://www.dayzcommander.com 3. Run DayZCommander and click the "install/update" button from the top menu. 4. Click "Install" next to ArmA 2. Wait for the download and install to complete. 5. Click "Install" next to DayZ. Wait for the download and install to complete. (You can choose what version you want from the dropdown box) 6. Press "Done" to close the versions panel. 7. Filter "DayZ only" from the dropdown box on the left and join a server, if you want to play other mods/maps you will need to install them separately via the install/update menu. If you want to install it manually though you need to extract it to your OA folder, in my case C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead\@Dayz
