The infection/virus concept in game is being redeveloped for standalone with the help of Rocket's brother (a virologist), along with a revised medical system. -

Play on one of the many whitelisted private hives with decent anti-cheat or wait until standalone. -
Try joining a different server and seeing if you are placed back on the beach, swim or wait to die from dehydration.

I don't think it's dead at all, just more and more players moving to private/white-listed servers/hives or waiting for standalone.

I like it, not familiar with the GOW3 animation though. -
Check the private hive forum section and see what some of them offer, some are whitelisted/passworded meaning you will need to signup, others are open to the public, personally I'd look for the ones using http://www.gotcha-antihack.com/ amongst other anti-cheat measures.

Because many private hives have additional anti-cheat tools not available on the public hive resulting in very little cheating, duping removed entirely (including food duping), combat logging removed (log out timer), humanity fixed (doesn't reset), amongst other fixes/improvements and generally are a better experience because of it, I applaud you if you can safeguard your server to a similar level with the limited tools you have available, most can't. -
Play on a private hive with decent anti cheat measures.

If it's a local server ban take it up with the admins, most are reasonable if you.
