Isn't that out in the middle of nowhere, far into debug plains, probably nothing just the game moving him to debug plains for a second when joining or changing skins.

It's fun because I can choose to play however I like, sometimes that includes PvP, other times it's running a taxi service, killing zombies or playing the role of a medic. I like the interaction with other players, including bandits trying to kill me. The game is supposed to be brutal. I like that it's hard to survive and that most players will kill me for my beans if given the chance, this makes me value my characters life and fear death because I invested time gearing up.

That's pretty common, can take anywhere between 20 second to 20 minutes depending on the server, how popular it's been and how long since its last restart. After a restart I get in almost instantly and then it will get longer and longer until it's not even worth trying until the next restart.

You can pick up a map in game, usually in supermarkets and press 'M' to pull it up, if it's a recruit server, you will show up on it at your current location, I think nearby vehicles, players etc will also show up. If it's a veteran server, you won't show up and instead will have to figure out where you are based on nearby landmarks. Finding a GPS will also allow you to bring up a map. You can mark the map by double clicking anywhere on it, however anyone who joins the server who also has a map can see everyone else's markings, so it's not a good idea to mark where your car/camps are. You can set waypoints on the map by holding left shift and clicking on it, this will display a waypoint on your HUD directing you to wherever you marked it on the map. As above, it's a private server/hive so the admins can ban you for pretty much any reason, find a better server is my advice.

You can turn it on in the options however it will cause your HUD icons (food, water etc) to stop working when it's enabled, it will eventually be removed entirely, it was only meant to be there for debug purposes.

I'm nominating dotjosh for his work creating DayZCommander, arguably the most popular DayZ Launcher with almost 700k downloads, he has made installing and updating DayZ, ArmA and various community maps unbelievably simple for many users. I do hope the recent controversy gets resolved soon though as it's not good for anyone.

Roll back ArmA to the previous version, the latest update isn't backwards compatible with servers running older versions. While most ArmA updates are backwards compatible, this one isn't.
