I can only speculate but perhaps the reasoning is so that if any issues arise with the rollout of private shards etc, they can much more easily be identified/reproduced if there aren't a bunch of different/unknown third-party rcon tools which could be the cause. This is what Rocket said a few weeks ago regarding the rollout of admin tools etc.

Right click DayZ on steam > properties > set launch options.

I expect you will hate this but I really enjoyed the payday 2 lock picking mechanic for some reason, even if it's incredibly simple and arcadie. Simply holding a key for an uninterrupted set amount of time.

DayZ Staff can not and do not have access to BattlEye global bans, and can not revoke them in any way possible. You MUST contact BattlEye support about any bans issued on you. Please contact them directly and request for them to investigate the issue by using the following email address. [email protected]

You can view BEC logs. You cannot access RPT logs (at this time) I couldn't tell you what either contain though.

Who is going to pay for an empty server though? Private shards aren't cheap. Only really way something like this would viable IMO would be that if you die, you can only play as the zombies/infected from then on, that would make things interesting.

Technically it's the same database I believe but you can think of them as separate. Characters etc will not be able to transfer between them, you won't be able to gear up on a private server and then move to another server on a different shard as nothing will carry over. Just like hardcore and regular have different characters. Admins can ban players, admins can whitelist their servers, admins can implement specific rulesets for their servers like no PvP, players can't "ghost" in behind you from another server etc.

Private Hives and Private Shards are different things (although similar), we do not have private hives in DayZ, although they were common in the mod. A private hive uses the admins/servers own private database not managed by the devs, so a server admin can do whatever they want with the database. This is what we had in the mod and why admins could spawn in loot, change loot tables, see player locations, sell items etc as all that information is in the database which they controlled and could modify. A private shard operates on a separate shard of the central database (run by the devs), this allows communities to have their own private servers without it affecting the main public shard and without giving server owners direct access to the database. The system is also flexible enough so that a group of servers could run on a single shard of the hive too (or just one single server). Fragnet is calling these additonal shard servers "slaves", slaves don't have their own shard itself but rather it's a server connecting to an already existing Shard you are renting. Eg Two servers using a single shard. Private shards give the best of both having a database and having a private community, without those private communities affecting the main public shard (character are tied to each shard, just like hardcore/regular characters). Players will only be able to jump/persist between servers on that private shard and as such admins will be able to enforce their own rulesets and have a few more options available to them like being able to lock the server, implement whitelists, ban players, create PvE servers etc.

That looks pretty good, way more intuitive. As others have mentioned some sort of general location or nearest major city/town would be beneficial, if I'm at Baolta I probably wouldn't want to trek to NE airfield to trade. I'd also rename recent trades to maybe open trades or current offers or something also.

Sad ending. That was inevitable with a group that size just standing around though.

Here's an interior render I made - hopes for the new engine

That looks pretty sweet, although maybe a bit too light, I think I just really like seeing some color in night time scenes. Someone posted an outdoor concept about a year ago and I liked it for similar reasons, even if it was also too light IMO. http://i.imgur.com/mBziYT5.jpg -
Tech is there, working on performance to get better pricing. http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/2jywz9/stable_servers_are_down_for_scheduled_maintenance/clghrbx?context=3

Brian did explain the reasoning behind taking this approach in the following video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sz3Zcj99IoY#t=801 Also:

How about using Steams OpenID API to allow users to sign in with steam instead of registering, I know I hate signing up for websites all the time, all your users are going to have steam accounts anyway and you already require they enter it so it just makes the entire process a lot easier.. See http://www.tf2outpost.com/ for an example. I haven't gone through the process of trading with someone but you could then also have a direct link to add them to steam friends to commence the trade. You can probably also get some ideas for the design/layout from there also, little things like "SmashT wants to trade..." above the item I am trading will help make everything a bit clearer what item that person has vs what they are looking for, my first impression was it was a little confusing. I'm not really sure what the item pop ups down near the adverts are for, the ones I had didn't seem to match any of the trades currently on offer so I'm not really sure what it's purpose is or what it's supposed to be showing exactly. A blurb on the front page explaining how the process works etc would probably also be a good idea or alternatively a getting started page in the top navigation explaining it all. I'd like to see a list of top traders/ all traders etc somewhere too. Register a domain name, something easy for folk to remember. Good Job

Are refunds available? My game can not run on my computer
SmashT replied to Jdawg2398's topic in New Player Discussion
You will need to take up the refund request with Steam Support - as the platform / transaction point, they would handle it. -
Alternatively you can set your DayZ launch options to include -name=SmashT Rght click DayZ on Steam > Properties > General > Set launch options.

If you believe you have found evidence of an unknown hack, submit the evidence to one of the Forum Staff and it will be looked into and verified. I know it's frustrating but posts like this are not useful, not only can they give hackers the satisfaction that may motivate them - but it achieves no value in solving the issue. Please have a read of these recent posts from Rocket and Eugen on the issue of hacking/security as well as the last few status reports where it was addressed. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/212882-reddit-rocket2guns-on-security/ http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/forum/134-development-blogs-status-reports/

Sort of, I've explained the differences here before. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/212787-private-shards/?view=findpost&p=2137126

Client crash still in there (new experimental). Server crashes should be a lot less common. Working on it. Next stable will be as stable as possible. Sorry for the issues. - Eugen

It's a quote from cyborg, seemed fitting.

reporting server admins is such a silly process
SmashT replied to dgeesio's topic in General Discussion
You could also just blind copy the GSP's into the same e-mail as per the instructions in the server reporting topic. Having an official section on the forums isn't going to achieve anything, it didn't in the mod, the reports never went anywhere and the entire section was a complete waste of time as the mod grew from a handful of servers to thousands. It wouldn't be an efficient manner of allowing people to submit the reports and would require someone else to then forward them to GSP's, taking QA/Support staff away from bug testing internal builds working on the feedback tracker. It would just add an additional step to the process. The best thing people can do if they don't know the GSP is to BCC them all into the same e-mail. This is something that isn't ideal at the moment but it's the best option we have for the time being. I don't know why people keep throwing out the idea that the GSP will not do anything about it either. This is demonstrably false. The server providers stand to lose a lot more money if they don't follow their contractual agreements. Lose a customer for enforcing the hosting agreement, or lose an entire set of customers and all future customers for not complying with BIS's requirements? Sending an email isn't that hard. -
Not today. You can find the schedule here. http://dayz.com/dev-hub

Your character isn't wiped when it fails to load, but it will be overwritten if you remain on the server. If you spawn in fresh, leave immediately and try another server. (unless you died during the 30 second logout) Don't join servers immediately after a restart, it can take a minute for it to connect to the hive.
