    Fuel and Cars

    I'd like it to be somewhat like the first post. Wrecked vehicles, chopper crashes and other peoples vehicles could be sources to drain fuel from. * Sneaking into an enemy base area and draining fuel out of their vehicles would be a great tactical move if the number of members differ too much. * Taking the fuel out of one vehicle and putting it in a more important vehicle or one that allows for a faster or safer escape. + oooh shit I must go :P ~doesn't finnish~

    Awww, what a nice reply and helpful reply... Rude c##t. Don't go spit on people and expect to be praised. I've got ideas, even more than these. Some may or may not already have been suggested, but I'm not going to sit and read through all other ideas that people have suggested before me to see if some of mine already have been suggested. If some happen to be suggested already, then so be it. Post something constructive, something that helps productivity rather than degrading it or the people posting. Maybe explain what and why you think something is nonsensical. Otherwise shut it, you aren't helping. Don't expect to get my beans! F#@$ you sir and have a nice day.

    I'm just going to put them here. Simple as that. ## Death and reawakening ## - After 30 sec to up to around 10 min, your body will become a zombie and will stand up before attacking anyone walking within ~30 meters of it. (If in visible range or making too much noise, making noise would wake the zombiefied person react from farther away) ** Buried bodies can raise from the ground, but will not notice other players as easy as those above ground. - All players that died by head shot will rot and can spread sickness to those close. Use a *shovel to bury their corpse to prevent sickness to spread. Explosions and death by fire may also result in a corpse not able to raise from the dead. - Zombies can not aim what they have in their hands, melee weapons may be swung and guns may be fired. Handguns or other firearms may be fired by the awoken zombie, but the zombies will not aim. A zombie wielding a 240 may still deal quite a bit of damage to other zombies or/and players. - Sometimes Zombies may drop what they have in their hands if shot at, wakes up or takes chase. - Zombies may dismember you after you die. Zombies without arms or legs may move slower, but can still bite you. !! Shooting dead players in the head before they turn into a zombie is a good idea. ## Burying,shovels,dragging,reawakening and rot. etc.. ## * Burying players is essential to keep away from sickness spread by rotting corpses. * The longer a corpse lays around, where and what weather it is in determines how fast the rot sets in and the risk of sickness to spread. * As bodies can not be buried indoors or on concrete, dragging bodies out to make an area safer to camp or rest in is essential. * Shovels are needed to be able to bury bodies. Shovels could also be good to allow hidden stashes for players, burring wooden boxes containing a few items or such. Shovels may make a fairly good weapon when fighting of lesser numbers of zombies or ambushing an unsuspecting person. * Various sicknesses, some slow you down, cause you to shake, tremble, lowered vision or hearing, slow you down, cause hysterical coughing, make you pass out, vomit and so forth. Various things may be good to help you keep on your feet until you find medicine or warm shelter where you can recover. Coughing and vomiting, along with other side effects will alert near by zombies of your presence. * Pain killers : In some cases this will give you a temporary ignorance to the sickness, but will not cure it. While the effects may not be affecting you for a short amount of time, you will still have a chance to infect others around you. * Antibiotics : Will cure most illness fast while others stay longer but cures faster than usual. * Heated water : May help to speed up recovery. * Dead bodies in water sources will make the water sources will infect the water. Boil your water. !! This will make players have second thoughts about looting corpses for gear. ## Medical & Vehicles ## * Players may bandage other players in most vehicles. * Players can not bandage all wounds themselves, if in a vehicle. * Some injuries will simply have to heal with time, don't strain yourself. * Antibiotics may be needed or infection may spread. * Shoot yourself in the head if you know you are going to die anyway. This will at least prevent you from waking up as a zombie and killing or injuring your group members/friends. * Dismember your wounded body parts with a machete to prevent sickness. Significantly slower at reloading weapons. !! "I'm truly sorry to say this, but we are going to have to amputate that arm sir." ## Weather ## * Snow : Zombies have decreased vision, may be/get frozen stuck and will also move slower, while players need to keep them selves warm. Terrain should be changed into winterlandish during snowy weather. Roads become slippery for zombies and players, as well as for cars. Put some chains on those wheels during the snowy times of the year. * Rain : Zombies have decreased vision and hearing. Also zombies will lose you easier in rain. But it is easy to get sick during heavy rain, while not as bad during light rain. * Wind : Wind may occur during wind and rain. Depending on direction and strength of the wind it may slow down movement of players and zombies while also making it more dangerous to ride some lighter vehicles. !! Don't stand too close to the edge of a building during strong wind. That's it.... for now.

Having a 30~45 second timer where which within your character just stands there doing nothing and can still be killed, rather than just killing them instantly, could help to avoid the client crash bug. The game crashes very often with all the code running, wouldn't want to be dead because of it every once in a while. Also, if it already logs the combat loggers servers can deal with it using bans if someone repeats the behavior too often.
  6. * Eating and drinking in a vehicle should be possible in my opinion. The only time that it shouldn't be is if you are the driver and you are driving at the moment of consumption. Soda cans could be consumable while driving, could affect your ability to turn by a bit or something. * Bandaging could be applied by someone else in the car but not by the injured person. Maybe only in bigger vehicles such as the van or a bus. Also, antibiotics shouldn't be a problem to munch on while in a vehicle. * Completely disable player list to create a deeper fear as it makes you less knowledgeable of who may be around you. * Have roaming zombies around at all time, only when a player catches the eye of another zombie or kills them with a weapon that attracts zombies should multiple zombies spawn. People know where people are due to the zombies that spawn near them. The roaming zombies could spawn if someone is within 1000 meters instead of 200 if the optimization is wanted. * Spawn zombies even if you are in a vehicle. # Having zombies spawn only if the player is detected, and possibly only in the structures near the player could allow players to hide from helicopters. At the moment if you want to hide in a building it will have an opposite effect due to that the zombies will appear around you. # The ability of dragging corpses of zombies and players could help stealthy approaches become possible.

    How to fix graphical artifacts/glitches

    History: - Ran flush over 50 times, only once did it end up decent. - Changed settings between nearly all imaginable options. (well, a lot at least) - Poked around with my ATI cataclyst settings. - None of the above fixed it properly for me nor them. So finally something that did work? It goes a litle something like this; Video Options -> Advanced -> Quality preference: Very low. Now modify all your settings to what you want, keep video memory to default. The clitch should remain but don't worry. Try to run a few Shift+NumMinus and type flush (You wont get a popup or a console window but it should work, note that it is numminus, meaning the minus button on your numpad. Laptops may have them on the keyboard on the keys iop or aroudn them and you'll most likely need to hold or press the FN key once.) If this works, lay. If it doesn't do step 6. Close the client completely. Do it propperly, meaning no "taskkill /f /im arma*" or CTRL+ALT+DEL. Details, I used this setting: * Me, my bro and a friend all had our problems solved after various attempts ending up with the best method being this. * Aditionally bro had an HDR flashing bug. This was fixed temporarly by client restart too. * Poke around with resolution as some get it fixed simply by doing that. Just as in the above post! Notes * Manually update Dayz, not using the Dayzcommander or six launcher may or may not help. (untested) * Maybe parameters such as -exThreads=3 can help loading textures with threading. No clue how the parameter work though, not tried it. Source @ biki Until the models in Dayz are repaired/replaced we'll have to consider the glitch a virus infecting our characters brains making stuff look weird.
  8. It started with me alone, getting used to the game. Attempted sneaking some zombies, that failed, ended up running for about 10 to 15 minutes just ending up with more and more. Eventually I managed to shake them, with about 2000 blood left... So well, eventually I died. Thew new born me found himself to some warehouses where I obtained a magnum, put too much faith in that gun. It did not work as good as I thought it would (the power displayed in a youtube-clip, it wasn't possible to recreate) Third, me and my brother met up after about 2 hours of various confusion and figuring out or positions. Here the adventure began, bugs of all sorts and tents with big guns. Events, bugs and such: 1. Bro attempts to open a door. It just wont open, so he ignores it. Bro tells me to cover him as he has to take a leak, before he goes he accidentally presses the prone hotkey and bam, the door slams open and knocks him out, making him bleed and breaking his legs. 2. The internet connectivity fails to keep alive, we both get disconnected. I log back in. I look around and see no zombies, but do hear them. I turn around and see the upper body of a zombie appear out of the concrete floor of the warehouse building we were standing in, growling then hitting me once before it disappears into the shadow it emerged out of. 3. We were done looting a village and ran through the woods and find an unsuspecting tent to loot. Good weapon and ammo. 4. :start, Find gun ->; put in backpack ->; gone ->; goto Start 5. Closed doors to a big warehouse building, zombies walk straight through wall. Guess they've got some good tech. These bugs didn't degrade the experience, DayZ is fantastic fun. Our lives have not ended yet, but doubt we've got much of them. We logged in the big city. The adventures shall continue! So tired, no sleep.. probably forgot a few things. CHEERS!

    Do not have to copy the Addons folder. - http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/30363-cant-launch-the-game-error-creating-direct3d-9-graphical-engine/ In here is talk of another error, there are some posts far down on the first page which worked for me when I had this problem. I refused to copy the addons-folder due to the size of it.

    Nice. Personally I'd try and find a highres image of the original DayZ-logo and put it in and then I wonder where I'd put the "brain stain" or blood. However as I can't get DayZ to work through my Steam and didn't know you could customize the image for the games, well. Have some beans!

  14. First, thanks. * What about RC Arma2-client? * Doesn't "-mod=C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Arma 2\;" work? (without quotes, derp) * And about the copying of the beta-exe. I've read a post by a mod somewhere about it possibly breaking your game. This can be an old message for a previous version or such, but in either case he said to copy .\dll\ and .\dts\ as well. When I did this though DayZ can not start as it claims it is missing a function which is required for it to work. However! ... I shall try, for I am a brave knight! As said by Kabs, the method of copying the beta-file. But I think that rather than copying the Arma2-folder into your OA-folder, include the full path as a mod in the "-mod=" parameters. The mod/admin or w/e that claimed copying the beta-file broke your game seems to have been wrong. Even locking the thread after posting it. Now, I am not sure. Maybe my game is broken, at least I can play it while I wasn't able to before. Cheers~ ~~ ~~ A stickies on these solutions please? Including various peoples ways of solving the issue etc. Confirmed solutions only? How I got it to work on steam. 1. Do as Kabs said above. 2. Run Arma 2, start both Armory missions once and then close it again. 3. Run your Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead game once. 4. Run your Arma 2 Combined Operations game once. 5. Rightclick the Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead game in steam and edit the launch parameters/options to "-mod=@DayZ;C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\;C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2\;CA;EXPANSION -beta=Expansion\beta;Expansion\beta\Expansion -world=empty -nosplash", without quotes and where you edit the steamapps folder location according to yours. 6. Launch by doubleclicking Arma 2 operation arrowhead and selecting combined operations. For me this solved CA_Dubbing-error and allowed me to play. Note: You may need to manually update your battleeye or w/e the anti-cheat is called. Cheers cheers ~~
  15. -beta=Expansion\beta;Expansion\beta\Expansion -mod=dummy;expansion Note: I've copied .\DTS\, .\DLL\ and game-exe from [OA game folder]..\Expansion\Beta\*, this was when attempting someone else's "fix". It never worked and a mod WARNED about it breaking your game. (if you excluded .\dts\ and .\dll\). Sadly I am unable to find the reference post, I just looked for 5 minutes. [updated @ 23-07-2012 , 13:45 GMT +1] - Adding ;EXPANSION within the "-mod"-parameters in the DayZ .bat-launcher seemed to add CA to launch without the "-beta"-parameters and still allowed me to launch the game. - Adding dummy to the -mod-parameters removed the 3D launch error for me. * Confused. Either this solved it or steam was the problem for me. I'll try to keep this updated. [updated @ 23-07-2012, 13:57] - Tried joining several servers, managed to enter one -> application froze. Possibly unrelated. - Not reverted to hotfix-version yet. Attempting again. [updated @ 23-07-2012, 14:03] - Tried again, joined. Crash/Freeze when almost done joining again. - Applying hotfix. (listed in related links bellow) [- || -, 14:19] - Yeah.. I don't know any more. Hope something in this post helps someone. Take care. Cheers folks. :-) Have read all sorts of solutions, found something claimed to work for NVidia users but as an ATI-user the above worked for me, not sure how to play DayZ using that, nor how or why it works. But I will try to get it running now knowing that this gets it to run.
