Hey, I know this is an odd suggestion, but I've come over some really interesting books and actually read some books partly in-game (while waiting for friends or before logging off). Yet, I keep coming across new ones all the time, so I'd like you to post pictures (if possible) or names of books you would recommend reading or found interesting as a child, or adult likewise; books from the game that is. This threat here is as much a reminder for myself about those books I'd wanna read, as hopefully a source of suggestions from and for other people on the forums. One I read in real life is: - The Variable Man - by P.K. Dick -> interesting story, not a novel, but a (lengthy) short story about a man that's scooped into the future by a future archeological device. There he's hunted, because Earth is at War with an alien race and the "variable man" is messing up the machine-made predictions of the outcome of the war. He gets involved in the war effort, but ultimately achieves something much bigger, in the end. **** out of ***** (stars) - Märchen - By H.C. Andersen -> some of the saddest fairy tales I've read as a child are in this collection. More sadly for you: ingame we have a German edition, so most of you won't be able to read them. I just browsed through some of those I remembered, sighing about how old and unimaginative I've become ;) *** out of ***** Some Books I found and still want to read: - Nostromo - by Joseph Conrad - Youth - by Isaac Asimov The "youth" edition has an interesting cover, or rather: interesting back: I'll try to post pictures of the other books as I come across them. Unfortunately the others became firestarters and I just cleaned up my old screenshots... *If you don't know how to read a book ingame - put it on a hotkey and press that key to open it.* Most of those books have run out of copyright (is that a thing?), so you can find them online in collections like "Project Gutenberg": http://www.gutenberg.org/ Have a pleasant reading sesh - it's so relaxing after a good day of firing guns, eating beans and explosions! Don't forget to follow the topic, because this is gonna get buried so deep ;)

Hi, for the first time in years I'm thinking about getting an AMD card again. I found the RX480 does everything I need and wonder if anyone is using the card with Dayz. For one reason it's not as power-hungry as the NVidia ones I can get for the price. Secondly, I don't want to buy a used card and this is in a good price/value relation. If any other cards come to mind that would be a good buy in the upcoming months, please let me know below.

Probably better not to ask about it... Like everything else, Modding Tools are long overdue and will be the last thing we'll see. It's hilarious, how they promised us new social media and insight into the game development and completely failed at it, once again. These devs should make their game and we should take what we get, because we tried over and over again: constructive criticism, suggestions, q+a; nothing improved about the information strategy for Dayz. Things are announced, never release in time, and then nobody ever gives us further/new info about it. I don't even remotely understand how you can be so bad at promoting your own game. So yeah, Mod tools - were supposed to be released in the beginning of 2016, from what I recall. What a joke...again. I can love this game and hate this team at the same time. I'm pretty good at it after three years of practice.

So this is the year Dayz is going to be released in... definitely, as far as Bohemia is concerned. However, there are certain problems that have been persistent in Dayz for years now, so I am quite prepared that these problems will never be resolved (like the non-responsive hotbar keys). The thing I wonder the most about: we should already be in Beta by now. In fact Q2/2016 is basically over and the beta hasn't even started. With a 2016 release this means right now the devs are giving up on beta-time, because the core game is nowhere near complete. However, there are a lot of bugs that need to be dealt with, so even if the game were released in 2016 - how and when would the Beta start? I was hoping - and I am serious about this - that now Tanoa is out, Bohemia would throw every last man and woman into the development of Dayz. I was expecting weekly patches after 0.60 and daily updates. Nothing so far. Am I the only one who can see that this is not going to work? If they don't pick up the pace there will never be a 2016 release. And please don't reply to this "let them have the time they need to make the game great!" -> this thread is not about this. It's about the devs making announcements without realistically explaining, how to achieve their goals. In 2014, if you asked the devs the beta was happening in 2015. In 2015 it was 2016. So maybe in 2016 we can finally get clarity about this: Is Dayz really going golden in 2016 - and if yes, how will this be achieved?

Write them down and make a cartoon from it! I actually would like to draw something called "The Ghillie Brothers". I wrote down a first episode based on a session with my friend. The idea is basically good cop bad cop, except that the bad cop is batshit crazy. Yes, my friend I mean you ;) I never dream of Dayz. I always dream of Mars. But seriously write that shit down bro! In ten years you'll find it and cherish the memories. Or maybe really make a cartoon of sorts.

Was there a Yeti-sighting near Tisy base? Does this confirm the team is working on a Donald Trump zombie?

But this is a matter of habit, I think. Even in the mod I hated nights. It's because you could crank up gamma there, too. True, you see everything, but the game looks like shit. Night, when done right, will be scary time in Dayz. It will be a different experience from daytime, instead of the same with higher gamma. I'm just really concerned about flashlights. The things are so darn bright - I don't know if I'll use them. We'll probably use them more for seconds to check inside houses than have them turned on permanently. We need a keybind for the flashlight and for switching on/off sights. Perhaps there already is a key? I for one can't wait until someone comes up with a solution to the night issue. I played a few nights without raising gamma and it was quite cool. A problem I see is that the stars and moon are actually real sky representations. That means in a night without moon it is just stupidly dark no matter how good the renderer. I'd prefer it more if there was a randomized pattern where you have a full moon cycle every night. I know it sounds like too much , but in reality you just can't have too much moon ;) The game will just look glorious with a full moon! And there will still be dark patches and they will be predictable enough to take advantage of when stealthing.

So development does speed up. Great! That's all I needed to see. Sounds like 0.61 will be a lot of fun. I'll try not to watch any vids and let myself be surprised by how predators attack. Adventure time :)

The price for this months 'Impossible-To-Find Item' will go to...

Yesterday when I was about to log off, I found my first canteen (there seem to be more water bottles). Then, after I picked it up there was a server restart. Of course it was a small rollback and I had to run to the house with the canteen again. On the way I saw that every piece of loot was still in the right place. The only thing missing was the canteen, which didn't make it into my inventory or back on the ground. Pity. I have some tanned leather though, so it is finally a good thing to craft some leather pouches. The model is a bit comical, because it is so large. I wish they scaled that down a bit. -
Deerstands. Do these ever have anything? what?

I found a CR 527 mag and a longhorn. -
I think the fog is there so bandits don't have such an easy time sniping everyone. I've seen it quite fog free, though admittedly it always seems to be hazy near the coast. The only town where I observed fog inlands is Novodmitrovsk. It looks kinda right though. Zambies and fog are a winning combination. With hordes and thick fog, I hope there will be situations where you just stumble into them, occasionally.

Oh, those damn guys using Teamspeak, instead of direct chat! Makes it impossible to pin down where they are sitting in the bushes. Luckily I had my gamma raised and took out all three of them. -> See what I did there? Don't complain, raise your gamma! Until it is fixed there is no other option. And in all honestly idk how this can really be fixed. But what else can we do? It's a shame we can't play at night, but night is not making too much sense at the moment. Can't avoid raising gamme, imo.

I think it is a pity people go down so quickly. I wish it was easier to just knock them out, not kill them. I've been in similar situations and tried to heal the guy I shot and take him prisoner (until I can figure out what he's made of). Unfortunately they always go down. I hardly ever get the chance to actually heal anyone but myself. Which is a pity.

Did you get hit by any infected by chance? They ruined my MP5 by hitting me and I had to get another one; which took about five minutes, because it happened near a poilice station. All attachments luckily stayed pristine. Would be interesting to know if the worn or damaged bullets actually damage the rifles. Good point! I always assumed all they do is jam your gun, but if damaged bullets destroy a rifle too...idk - seems like overkill. Almost all the bullets I find are worn or damaged.

Awesome! I just made my first camp by the sea and I'm looking forward to catching these guys! Have you tried making a fish trap yet? Hopefully I'll find some netting. Here is the start of my Camp Seaborn:

I do understand you Elander, but you are taking the topic into a direction I didn't mean to take. I don't want to be judgemental, I'd just like to be better informed. Why is it always such a heckle to get to the bits of useful information? Why do we have to always ask and ask again only to be given pieces of information we're unable to put together? I can't understand how Dayz will reach Beta soon with so much left to do. What are the updated plans now that we have 0.60, even though it came a bit late? Surely they can't hope to start the beta as soon as they hoped to. That's okay for me, but when will be we informed about when things are going to happen? How can development be sped up? I'd really like to play the full game in 2016 and I hope the best for it. But I simply can't see this happening right now.

Hmm, thanks for the credit, but I've actually been banned from this forum 2x now (a whole month last time). And probably rightfully so, but to call me a fanboy is a bit harsh:p I am not that interested in seeing all their roadmap goals reached in time, but I have been pleading for a different approach about informing us about the state of the game. It's always been this way and there were big announcements and nothing happened. I just want a realistic timeframe for once. In the final year of development this should become predictable for the devs. If I appear to be a fanboy that's because I love this game and the concept, but I'm finding it hard to love the team behind it. I give them credit for creating a beautiful game with 0.60. It has its share of problems, but I'm ready to accept most of them and find a work around. It isn't a predictable environment to create a true sandbox and the scale and options you have in Dayz are unique. I really want to start trusting this development, but in order to do that I need reliability. The main reason why I may appear disgruntled is because I think these devs could be more popular with a few easy tweaks to their communication routines. It puzzles me how and why they refuse to do the right thing.

Well it can't be forever - if they don't release in 2016, they will have to speak about it early in 2017. And that's what I'm worried about. Usually Dayz is giving us the info/update after they borked up the release. It would be really nice if for once we could get that info in advance, instead of too late.

Reminder - need to know what server you were last on?
S3V3N replied to Mookie (original)'s topic in New Player Discussion
I actually take a screenshot sometimes, before connecting to a new server. But this is good advice and great help. -
Worn is the best you can get through repairs. Which is right, because pristine means untouched and it can only be pristine once in its cycle. Glad you are enjoying the game, but do yourself a favor and ditch that Trumpet ^^

Yeah, I agree. The thing that seems to always gets pushed back is modding. Before beta starts, would modding tools even be considered? I feel like they should be part of the beta. I do think we need clarification about this 2016 release. Like yourself I feel that the game is barely ready for Beta, possibly at the end of this year. However, Bohemia probably wants to put the game out this year, because they have more projects in the pipeline and need the resources. Developing games for ten years is a prerogative of Final Fantasy games ;) It needs more time, unless something magical happens and we see updates every other week. I'm willing to give the game the time it needs, but I am waiting for a developer statement.

The Melee combat....Worst shit i have seen in any game.
S3V3N replied to Evilsausage's topic in General Discussion
That's true. The engine clearly isn't made for melee. It has no regard for inertia, mass or speed. At least I'm glad the sounds are getting a complete overhaul, because I'm sick of hearing this "thumb" noise when I hit someone in melee. Still the same stupid sound like in the mod. We should hear screams of agony and bones crushing when we hit someone with an axe. Those screams should attract nearby enemies. Our screen/face should be splattered with blood in such melee situations and we should have to wash that blood off, in order to avoid infection. The thing that always puzzled me is why then, they seem to put such an effort into making so many melee weapons, if hardly any of them get used. To be clear: I only use axes and occasionally a spiked baseball bat, but nothing else. So 98% of the melee weapons are completely lost on me. And yeah the battles are pretty ridiculous. Running around each other in circles is not what I would do in a real-life melee situation. So above all, the melee isn't only bad, it's also unrealistic. For a while I was waiting for a way to block or parry. Basically the simple rock-paper-scissors mechanic other games use. I'm not saying it is great (example: The Culling -> bad melee), but at least it would make melee more skill than luck based. Idk, melee was probably never meant as a PvP mechanic that much. It's going to be useful when there are more infected around and you need to take some out quietly. That's probably the best reason to explain its current and future state. For PvP it is just the last straw, but for PvE it is actually useful. -
Check your arrows, they take damage now. If you just craft simple arrows they wear off after 5 shots or so. If they are ruined they can't be used.

Zelenogorsk/Green mountain is always good for choppers. The spawns are still the same, but the frequency of their dynamic respawn is increased. For me that means I found up to 5 choppers in a single session, simply because I was lucky enough to have them despawn behind me and respawn in front. 1 of these was russian. They are far harder to spot than the US choppers. Loot at the russian crashsites is usually more crappy than at US. US is usually a couple of clothes, 2 grenades 1-2 rifles and a nearly empty magazine (if you're lucky). There can also be an engraved 1911 or FNX at the chopper. But don't expect it to have crazy amounts of loot! I found choppers that were completely empty, too. For the scopes its alright to check police stations. Sooner or later an MP5 will spawn with an attachment there. Or just go to the usual, military locations.

It's like watching a Cloverfield movie with fewer aliens :p Also - as soon as you entered the city - it lagged. Best fun is when you are in the car getting sixty frames and desync like a beast.
