Yes, agreed, radio should be in it and groups should be possible. I just don't want them to be a commodity from the start, but rather something you develop as you move and scout along. So far, I am avoiding other players. I often see them first. Other people just live for hunting other players. So there's two playstyles, mine if a bit boring for sure. I guess you play more like that, too. When there are groups you still won't know what kind of group they are (ingame or Skype), probably most of the groups made ingame would be more on the friendly/cooperative side, while the skypers just gun along. So maybe you should be able to hear a faint radio noise from survior groups that exist ingame, when they chat or talk. That would help me a lot and be entirely reasonable, imho.

Maybe call a medic and relog on their server? I had this problem once after I had climbed a deer stand and logged out shortly after. Arma must have placed me back on the dearstand or clipped me into it when I logged back in, because I had the exact same problem. I had a medic come by and fix me up with a blood transfusion +morphium, and I was alright again.

I know groups from Arma, too. The group leader can see his squadmates position, often with a little marker. He can see their status (injured/not) and they call out every annoying fence and bush they spot over a distance of three square miles. Plus, they re often bugged and keep repeating the same shit and you can't turn it off. Sure as hell that is not the system you'd want to see incorporated either. The problem with making groups is that 90% of the people who get shot now, while they scavenge would get shot then, while they look to form a group. As much as I've had my problems with the original approach Dayz takes here, it is much better than bringing groups in as an imposed mechanism. Groups will have to form out of need to either get an item or because certain tasks need you to work together. It needs to be rewarding to form a group, not pose a reward by itself. Granted, there will be groups in given time, but I think it should just give you the option to invite someone to your group, much like you would now chat to people while staying off their FOV. I'd really like to know how big the radius of Direct Talk is, because sometimes I can't tell if people aren't getting the message or chose to ignore it.Currently, I don't try to chat up people to join forces, but with a decent feature to invite them (e.g. when in viewing range and hover cursor above them = send invite) I sure would be inclined to ask players more often.

Oh, we did read, it just doesn't make sense. Who would run with a flashlight in their hand in RL? When you are running turn off the flashlight. When you have to use it, flash it for a second and not more. Sometimes those moments can be really suspenseful, so I guess it has its thrills. If you run with a flashlight on that is just plain stupid, since you can turn it off. The only thing I find complainworthy is that you cannot wield a handgun + flashlight at the same time.
-
Well, why do you use it? The problem is that it is really too dark a night, so a full moonlit night would help. For some reason only the smallest moon phase available is used in Arma Dayz. I remember it was bright enough in Operation Arrowhead to run around without a light or NV. Quite beautiful too when you actually see something. It is so dark - I admit I occasionally turn gamma up at night. Which is another thing that bothers me quite a bit, but I see no way around it. I only use my flashlight for split-seconds to check inside buildings, after I'm sure nobody else is in it. I even have a military flashlight (red spectrum), but I know it makes me a living target. Easy fix - switch night settings to full moon on recruit and regular server. Leave it like it is on the Veteran and other servers. P.S.: Sandwich - that is just suicidal! I do use chemlights every once in a while and road flares when I'm out of cities and in the thick.

dayzmod.com - Aug 2012 - Q&A with Rocket

How can 12 year olds get a copy of Arma II? Isn't there some kind of mature content law that forbids them to buy copies of the game on Steam? (I checked with them, they bought it on their own account, but on daddy's credit) -
[DayZMod] The Dayz Statistics thread!
S3V3N replied to Ander (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Well, when I played yesterday it said (in Six Launcher) ~ 9000 people, on --- servers. I never paid attention to that number before. Sure Dayz has helped sell a lot of Arma copies, but at least 25% of the people jumped in the game, expecting something else. You have to admit, a lot of youtube videos show the fun, not the grinding. Imho the grinding and mostly the exploration and constant danger is fun, but it will never appeal to millions of players, on the long run. By now, I hope the game gets harder and they incorporate child player models. If only there was some way to force underage players to use a kid-skin. That would have saved me a lot of annoying encounters and is something like an in-game age check. -
It seems to be triggered by certain buildings (mostly barns and bigger buildings that have items inside). It's damn annoying, because that means the tears appear always in the direction you are heading. And also changing the gamma and changing resolution without restarting helped for me.

I thought the kevlar might take some randomized hits, like the bone breaking system. It's not supposed to be a shield of some kind, just a bit of protection. Maybe you can patch it up to last longer and it would look sick to meet a survivor that has a vest that has been repaired a couple of times.
-
How about you add armor/bullet proof vests to the game? You can find it like the Ghillie-Suit and the entrenching tool (which I have and dunno what to do with, lol; wtf is an "engineering backback?"). If there is kevlar you can risk talking to people and even take a few hits without taking much damage. I'd at least feel a bit more comfortable to talk to people, knowing that most players are too psyched to aim for a clear headshot at encounters. It would be a rare item with a finite number of hitpoints.

I have 8 smoke grenades or so ^^ I raided the airfield and got 7 mags for the AK and 8 stanag mags now. Luckily there are the Coyote backpags, otherwise I would need a small trolley :) Yeah, I know they are incredibly useful, but they are almost too useful. And if you throw 5 at a building it will blow up and be destroyed; I dunno if that is fixed yet. Just sayin' - they almost work too well to be real. Has anyone tried to use the cans to distract zombies? I picked up so many and tried over and over, but I can't see that draws them away at all. It's one of the most annoying moments for me when I enter a barn and all I find are cans and hatchets. I'd rather not find anything and preserve some ram for a better game experience. EDIT: Another suggestion for a new item: KEVLAR! It would help at encounters with other players and probably make me feel more comfortable about trying to talk to them. Knowing they are most likely too psyched to aim for a clear headshot. You could still incapacitate a guy with kevlar and you could take him down with a headshot.

The ONLY Realistic Way to Prevent Deathmatching: Make DayZ a Living Hell
S3V3N replied to Time Glitch's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I like that - the problem is I yet have to see a huey. I've been playing 1.7.2.4 for 2 days without seeing a chopper, yet. There could also be radio stations, which you can use to set off automated messages (with type to speech or direct recording and looped replay). Repair the generator, fuel it up and send out a message. In Belgium I often waited for my train in a small town that had loudspeakers playing "ambient" music all day. That was kinda fucked up, but also interesting, since the whole city was wired with speakers (quite a few villages there are). Radios should not come in pairs. You will have to find batteries, too. Once you have a radio you can chose (a limited range) global chat to anyone else with a radio. People will tune in from all kind of places and you will meet more people on-the-air as you move around. Most likely group of survivors will form around guys with a radio. It would also be cool if radios come with an activation code (you can change), so other people who nick it, will have no use for it, unless you want them to. -
Guy Claims He's Friendly Then He Charges Me What Would You Do ?
S3V3N replied to brentp (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
If someone has a hatchet and you have a gun - you shoot him. If someone has a bigger gun than you, you hide and shoot him later. So far that is the two rules I have been able to count in Dayz. I'm a little disappointed about that mechanic, because it feels gamey and imposed to me. I'd actually like to trust more people in game, but it's really all about the loot now. -
When I don't have a crossbow, I use the hatchet ;) It may be a bit unrealistic, but it feels like a boss to hit that cow ^^

Rrg, got you. Keep flipping dem ATV's! Hell, form a group of flippers. Just as long as the forum stays entertaining!

Removal of Sniper Rifles and Silenced guns.
S3V3N replied to necroslord's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
It's strange that you hate the word unbalanced, because you sound like it. Ask any military - a sniper is best brought down by another sniper. What kind of tactics to you recommend to a solo player that has to cross a field with an m107 watching from 2km away? Seriously - it's a monster rifle, but you cannot win against it, even with another sniper rifle. And if you sneak up on a player carrying it you are only extremely lucky. There are no tactics employed when you have to run 2km just to get near the MF, let alone shoot him. To me the m107 relates towards all other guns, like an Abrahams does to a car. By your logic we should have a couple of tanks in the game, too. I don't care though. I wouldn't pick it up, even if I found it. It's not how I play this game. You go ahead, have it your way. -
I guess Arma can be somewhat overwhelming with all the keys you never use on a keyboard when playing other games ^^ However, this mod is the best mod to become a game, since... beat me - Killing Floor! I just believe that the future community of the mod will be smaller than now, because a lot of people will by then have found out the game isn't for them. Right now it's curiosity that drives a million people to play this. It's well deserved for Bohemia, since they made great games since OFP that too few people noticed. What I really liked about the situation before Dayz was that only people, who are mature and only slightly psycho played the game. They wanted a hardcore military sim, which is nothing many kids are interested in. It was one of the best teamplay experiences I have ever had and I literally spent days in regular Arma II (and its predecessors). What we get now are 10 000's of players from 12-14 years that squeal into their microphone and annoy you on Skype, if you ever made the mistake of adding them. You are coming back, I am sure about it. You will, because right now you are in shock about being too stupid to play a game. That's what the game industry always wanted to make you believe: you are the hero, you have total control. In Dayz you die, you die again and you learn from it. In the end you still die, but you will know it is your own fault, at least for the most part.

Removal of Sniper Rifles and Silenced guns.
S3V3N replied to necroslord's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Idk about sniper rifles, I only had the Czech and the M24 (which is sweet). For both I didn't find much ammo and lost the m24 in a glitch, before I could really enjoy it. The Czech was pretty useless to me, and I dropped it. I also had the MP5SD once, but couldn't find any ammo for it, so they are definitely already balanced in the way that solo players don't find much. However, the larger gangster clans are probably farming this kind of loot from their victims a lot, so I'd say it's a bit unbalanced if one player can have 12 mags for the m107, when another is running around with 1 magazine he found after a few days of searching. I carry the crossbow and the M9Sd and I have an Ak-74 in my backpack, just in case. I have a lot of ammo in my backpack (ak + stanag), only because I've searched the airfield and somehow survived it. I totally love the M9SD, even though it feels a bit overpowered, atm. I wouldn't mind if the Czech and the MP5SD were removed. I don't see the point in having the M107 either, since that is essentially a super-rare gun and can only be beaten by another M 107. However, I would keep at least one sniper (M24) and one SD rifle (like the M4 CCO SD) and the M9SD in the game, since these are just real treasures and need some skill to work with. Also the ammo is not that easy to come by, so you always have to make the decision to pick up an easier gun, or stick with the one you have and preserve ammo. -
The Reason more and more people don't enjoy DayZ
S3V3N replied to B Allred's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Exactly! the last time I decided to play with another player ingame, was because he was always slightly ahead or behind me anyway. I could hear him fire all the time, and since I play quite stealthy, I had the upper hand on him. The first two times I asked him, he simply kept looking for me and then ran away without replying. But when I was raiding a military camp and he waltzed in, we were forced to defend against the zeds together. Since he already knew me from before and knew I didn't want to kill him, we decided to roll for a bit. He was killed by another player later, while looting stuff when we were split for only a minute. I then killed the other player and moved on alone. One of the problems I often have is that other people play a different style than I do. I don't want to be afraid to crawl past a zombie, not knowing if the guy behind me will have an itchy trigger finger and start alerting them when I'm right next to it. So I'm looking forward to the wear + tear system a lot, which lets you see for how long another guy survived. Of course that still doesn't say everything about the matter, because everybody respawns, eventually. -
Don't shoot! I'm friendly! -holds hands up-
S3V3N replied to Fefe (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Yes, it's called restraining and it is done on another arma mod, called CLR (Chernarus Life Revolution). In the mod you can also stun another player by swinging his rifle at him. CLR is actually an excellent example of how to make a game competitive and cooperative without removing the PvP aspects. However, it is also a little "gamey", compared to Dayz. CLR has two teams, cops and civs. Civilians can play as gangster or businessmen and the cops have a hard time figuring out which style you play. Cops can search, restrain and send you to prison. Both teams can build bases/checkpoints. -
Lol are you seriously asking him what is a pen and paper?

I have been thinking about the retail version and where it could take place. I've never actually been to New Zealand, but I think Peter Jackson is a native (don't hit me when I'm wrong) and I've seen some of his ealier works. The area seems like made for a zombie apocalypse and since New Zealand is an island state it would fit well with the isolation theme of a zombie apocalypse. I thought of Japan, the UK or New Zealand. NZ being my choice of favor, so far. Ok, ok - somehow I left out the whole of south America, but we've recently seen a lot of it in other games. Also, the environment can be tweaked a bit, since it's a fictional country. What's your choice? Or do you feel like there is something I forgot (like Canada, or the Arctic region ^^)
-
Can someone please make this thread a sticky? It can actually say a lot about what the community expects of the retail game. We let out wallets speak to say we like the game and freedom it can offer. Now we speak about which country we would like to play in the most.

You are just making it worse for yourself kiddo ;) Better stop now, before I have to ask for a magnifying glass.
