Let us know how long it took to get that resolved. This happens to me quite frequently, so I might be able to benefit from your experience here. Why doesn't the engine do this automatically? You actually have to write a ticket so that someone puts you on top of the map again? - lol

I don't have desync. I would have noticed in other games. I have cable Internet here. We actually have one of the fastest nets in Germany (because I live in a major city). I can't believe this happens to nobody else, because I have already fallen through the map like this, three times. And I don't drive a lot; it only happens in the truck and only off-road. It can't be desync, it must be something wrong about the entity placement. I actually believe the truck drives on the underside of terrain. I can't see it, so I can't confirm it, but what I think happens is that it actually sticks to the terrain from below. I can still drive around, but I can't get back up through the terrain's collision.

riders jacket....why does it get ruined in one hit?
S3V3N replied to gannon46's topic in General Discussion
It can be really frustrating too. I had all my firestarter stuff, knife and bandages in the pants and one hit ruined everything in there. Couldn't make fire, open cans or bandage myself. All from getting hit once... Though I must say, I haven't checked if that still happens. Been getting my leather outfit together and haven't seen that many zeds. -
Anyone else who can't fill water bottles?
S3V3N replied to IgnobleBasterd's topic in General Discussion
apparently it solves the problem of not being able to drink all. If not y it was z. Maybe it was spamming "Z" that helps. Always damn confusing with your US keyboard layout. Y and Z are exactly the other way around on EU keyboards. -
It's not an issue of 0.54 as such, but I keep falling through the map when I'm in a truck. I can still get out and drive around, but since the position is under the map, my character gets reset every time. This happens, because there are seams in the landscape, where the trucks can fall through. I hope this issue will completely seize with the new game engine, because 3x I got reset like that by driving over a meadow.

Anyone else who can't fill water bottles?
S3V3N replied to IgnobleBasterd's topic in General Discussion
I've seen a guy in a video say that he spams the "y" button while performing an action. Supposedly it helps. I rarely have the problem. I usually just walk back and toward the well and it works. Or you can drink just a sip and try after that. Works for me, too. I'm not getting hung up on filling bottles, but I do have problems sometimes when I try drinking an entire bottle (only option is to cancel, then). -
I can't find the Amphibia. I have every other pistol in the game and 4 mags for the Amphibia. Do they not spawn in barracks or civilian houses? I'm really at a loss where to look for it. Also: press vests are a pretty common find in the tower-like municipal office in Novomitrovsk. I only found one mag for the CR527. The rifle would be cool, if we could mount a scope. It does the same damage as an AKM and the ironsights are nice.

riders jacket....why does it get ruined in one hit?
S3V3N replied to gannon46's topic in General Discussion
Is it only the rider's jacket? I've been hit by zombies lately and pretty much whatever they hit got ruined (except for the vests and backpack). Not sure about the rider's jacket, as I never wear it. The craftable leather jacket is pretty sturdy and stays pristine for a long time. The only problem is that it has the same water-resistance as a cotton shirt. I think all leather clothing should be waterproof or at least very much more resistant than a wool coat. -
I think the devs are doing an exemplary job, only the tech seems to hinder them. And it's usually good to wait a little bit after a big patch, since things that weren't buggy suddenly often are. The only thing I would wish for is a comprehensive list of do-nots. If I had known, for example, that characters can get wiped when you join a server too early after restart, I'd always have waited, before reconnecting (the servers do that weird thing of showing 8:00 o'clock start time, and then restart and show 9:30 - which is when it's safe to join. It's probably the best game I know, despite all its flaws in the current stage. But we get updates, the community is active, the servers are full - pretty much all you can wish for in a retail game. And this is still just the Alpha! Idk if Dayz is a good example for a game development project. It's more a labor of love (or else Rocket would have just sold the mod and got on with life) and dedication than a classic game development. It is its own genre and has a bit of everthing, actually a lot of everything in it. It's probably interesting for a game design student, but not the typical project I'd use as a study subject. Dayz is unique and it will always be that way.

Wait, you mean the ladder outside the firestation? I didn't even know stuff spawns on top of the firestation tower. I have no problems with ladders, but I think that particular one is prone to being buggy, since it was the only one you could glitch through the wall of the firestation tower, in the mods. If somehow you get caught up in the collision mesh of the ladder or firetower you die instantly. Something bad about how collisions are handled in the game engine. Really hope that will go away with the new engine!

Thanks! I thought this had to happen at some point. As long as there is no proper consistency, etc. it totally makes sense to just spawn tons of loot and let us play. I just seriously begin to doubt if we will ever see that day. I think if they were able to make the game consistant, they would have done so. After all, this works in the mod. I had a character on Origins for 24 days subsequently. Houses of my own for weeks - no problems there. I simply wonder, why it is so hard to make it work in the standalone. Consistency is the one most important thing to me, to make this game work out.
-
I think persistency is not working well, or not working at all now. On the bright side - I do get better framerates, but none of the server I tried saved any of my loot in backpacks I dropped and my tents disappeared. The worst thing is that my character was also reset and spawned without any gear in a random location. Time to take a Dayz break and rage on the forums ^^
-
You know that is never going to happen, right? We can be lucky if we get a hundred people on a server. It's not an MMO this. Dayz doesn't have some massive server setup, as MMO's do. As for the bugs, good luck with that! I am still seing bugs in the game that were already in Arma II. And that worries me. The old mod is actually a lot more stable and less laggy than the standalone. About the server hopping - I really hate it! You can secure an area all you want, if some asshole pops up behind you in a bush, equipped with all the military loot. Server hopping rewards the people, who can't play the game properly. Those who can't shoot and win without cheating. Can't the Dayz Dev team tag items from one server? Meaning, if you jump servers, all the gear you looted on one will be ruined by the time you get on the next server. This could be controlled by player positions as well. If someone just sits in a cell in Prison Island and hops from server to server, the server should read his location and ruin his loot. I admit it is not perfect, because often enough we are forced to switch servers, because ours doesn't restart or crashed. It could also be done so that whenever you connect to a new server within a certain time limit (e.g. 15 mins), you get a penalty for picking up items (5, 20, 40 minutes). Each time you jump a server you'd have to wait longer until you are able to pick something up.

What? Then get on it man! Build a steamtrain, now ;)!

You clearly haven't played Overpoch. The amount of military gear is what kills the mod. It simply becomes over-boring getting the best gun in game and shooting people from helicopters. I know it sounds awesome from where we stand, because we still have little military gear in Dayz, compared to the mods. Go play them, you will see that better guns makes Dayz a different game. I believe the military gear should be superrare. Even though we all like nice guns, Dayz shouldn't be about running around for hours, just to find that powerful rifle. It should be about surviving the apocalypse. It should be longterm, vs. spend a night in Cherno and snipe everyone. I figure the military vs civilian gear is realy difficult to balance, but look at how it is now: I loathe the civilian gear and run straight for the barracks or to prison island. It all results in me playing the game in a way I don't even want to. If the temptation and superiority of military gear would be less extreme, I would be forced to play differently. If you want a shooter on a decently sized map, go play H1N1. You will see for yourself, how boring that'll get. Things need to be done differently than in the mods, and they are starting to shape out, now. ---bootbands- If you actually want to roll up sleeves, etc. it would require a completely new code for clothing and animations to go with it. I don't think that's gonna happen, but it might be possible they make a second set of (the same) clothing, with bootbands on. That would then just load and replace the first. The model tweaking itself is simple, and it would use the same texture as the original model. You wanna avoid loading different textures and having a huge database of them. Modern games use modular texture sets and sometimes even procedural texturing to allocate less memory to them. I do agree that more cosmetic changes would be welcome, but I think the current engine is not great for this kind of stuff and it would require a reworked clothing system to actually make the "sleeverolling" seamless and not just pop up a new model for your character. I'm just trying to relate to you, how much work it is to implement this small suggestion of yours properly.
-
I think what you are suggesting is merely cosmetic and would require a lot of modeling work. The modelers would have to either animate the clothing to do what you suggest, or they would have to make a second and third set of the same clothing, which would be loaded to replace your original character. Each time you apply a bootband it would require a new model and texture set to load and replace the old one. And that is still the same character, just with bootbands. I'd rather have the team invest the 300 hours it takes to model and get something like this ingame to spend on more meaningful mechanics. I am also not a fan of the military looks and gear in Dayz. I think that's what the mods have plenty of. In Dayz ideally, I'd want to craft my own gun and make my own ammo. Sure, the gun would suck balls, but eventually I'd either find or craft a better gun from better parts. This would all work well enough, if consistency was actually working and we could store our stuff without losing it to "hotfixes" and "stable version" updates. I did like the idea of putting, e.g. leather straps around your ankles to store additional gear, such as knifes or a backup pistol. That makes sense to me and would require only one new item and functionality. And since clothes are already fully coded, it would be easy to add some leather belts or tubing to be used for additional storage (for light items, such as small blades or fishing hooks). We would have to craft a sheath from leather though, to put a knife somewhere on the body. Also, if you decide you have better uses for the tubing/straps, you could remove them and craft into something else, or use for a different purpose. So I vote nay on the bands (because they are too much work and purely cosmetic), but I vote yay on some kind of leather straps or tubing, because it can have multiple uses.

Exactly! I used to have one of those silly Barbor jackets in my youth. Some aunt thought it would be a good present to give me a tin of wax to keep it coated in the future. I remember only using it once, because I really hated that Jacket style. But I made my Jeans Jacket waterproof that way. It looked and felt disgusting, but it sure works! Just apply a fresh coat when you realize you are getting damp again. You won't go fully wet, but damp. I remember you could use a flat iron to "melt" out the old wax, too. So definitely something could be done with heat to apply or remove the coating. Also - I name BigMike as offcial counselor to the Dayz developing team :) On bees that is. The stuff you brought up is amazing, Mike!
-
Just check out Barbor jackets. It's a famous British brand for men with Moustaches. It's basically cotton with a waxy finish. Beeswax is the main component, and I guess we could get the emulsifier from fat we cooked from, e.g. lard (so getting waterproof clothing would also require to hunt). That fat would stink though, but we are not playing the game for its smells, right :)? Glad you like this idea, I didn't know it was suggested before, but it seems natural to me, and I would use it a whole lot more than to look for feathers for bow arrows. And that feather searching mechanic is already in the game. Can't be a long stretch to making bees work, same way. Also - thanks BigMike! I knew there was another bee product, namely Propolis, but I had forgotten its name. It's antiseptic and basically has a ton of uses. I used it when I had a cut on my lip and it healed superfast and without any other medicine!
-
True, it could be used in medical treatments, but I don't know much about that. There is also gelee royal harvested from bees that has a very strong, nourishing effect. It could also be used as lure in bear-traps - another item we'll soon see ingame (not the bear, but the trap).

So, I was equipped and happy before a server restart and afterward the game reset my character. But not to the character I had created, but to the random dark skinned guy with black shirt and blue jeans. What is the point of having a character server, if it resets not even to the character I made, but to the generic one? Let alone that I lost a tent, the backpacks and all my gear; and not just once, either. I understand the Alpha idea, but I feel the hotfixes aren't really fixing anything. And you can't really call it a "stable" release when it is anything but stable. Sure, now I have more frames, but no game left to play. I'll start again in a few weeks, hoping for an update that doesn't break things. >>EDIT: It works again! Two days after the patch it seems, consistency is back!
-
Thanks for the merger! I did check the thread that lists all the different suggestions first, but I didn't find any mention of it. Now it is in the right place! I also do think that it would have been bad, were these cars the only way of transportation, but as there are trucks and probably more cars, soon, these hand cars will just be a bit of fun and the risk of taking them can really pay off. After all, I usually try meeting my friends on the coast. And I would be double happy about finding any means of transport that got me there faster. I have a feeling that most people just kill themselves and respawn, in order to get closer to where they want to be, now.
-
Hey! I've been thinking about this for ages, and it seems like adding some handcars to the railways could be fun. It would only need 3 or 4 of them in total and player could chose to either use them to get up along the coast or take a joyride around the countryside. The good thing is - since these are railed cars, they are bound to bump with other handcars rather sooner than later. And there will be no escape, so you either talk it out or shoot it out with the guys on the other cars. It would be a nice way to get around without the need of having a truck. And it could give some point to the magnificient rail system in the game that, so far, I only use to get my bearings on whereabout I am. These cars should be found at railways stations and will be blocked by natural obstacles (landslides, trains on rails), etc. Perhaps in some cases it could be possible to switch the lanes (with a lever at the rails), in other cases your voyage will end at these obstacles and other players will find the handcart to go back the way you came. Here is an image of what I have in mind: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/10191409/sheffcar.jpg (sorry, I can't add it as attachment to my post, because I already uploaded too many images here, apparently...)

why doesn't the bipod fit on the mosion?!
S3V3N replied to GhostSlayer (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
just use duct tape ^^ -
Add to that shooting through and throwing stuff out of the window. It should be possible. I found myself stuck in one of the apartment buildings without a sizeable backpack, but with a tent in my hand. I couldn't throw this tent off the balcony or our of any window, as it kept dropping where I stand. And you cannot get on either the roof or back down with it again, because there are ladders both ways (and you drop the tent there). It was kind of hilarious that the best way to do it was to drop through that hole in the first floor stairway and hope it didn't kill me. Which it didn't ^^ I'd still prefer to be throwing this thing, instead of just dropping it on my feet, each time.

I actually repair a lot of my waterproof clothing with duct tape (in real life). Doesn't look so great, but when I'm canoeing, who gives a s++t? It's nice we can use Duct Tape to fix matchboxes and other container stuff, but I think it would also work on a lot of other items. Perhaps not as great a fix than when using a sewing kit, but it will hold+repair damage until you find one to properly mend it. It should fix the tents, too. Duct Tape is a bit underrated in the game. I should be able to wrap anything to anything else with it (e.g. put a hunting scope on the CR 527). It would also look more interesting, if we could tape knifes and stuff to our guns. As I understand it, we can already tape magazines together, which is a cool thing, if it makes reloading any faster. I guess you also safe some space (2 slots for a taped mag, instead of 4). Rags and Duct Tape combined could be a force to be reckoned with!
