Ehh, one mag I found on the back of one of those rusty Hilux pickups (I was quite surprised myself) and the other for the CR75 was on the north-east airfield. There is usually pistol related stuff in the main building there. I must say I found most of the pistol mags in the north for some reason. Might just be that I like looting there. Seems you can get a mag easily from thewire ^^ I carry a scoped AK101, MP5 silenced and the CR75 and I adore every single one of them. I wish I could trade the 101 for a Steyr, though.

I usually have 2 or 3 zombies to deal with after firing the silenced CR75. Once you know to keep watch for a moment after the shot, it's not so bad. I actually shoot a gun in Dayz - incredible :) And my friend who roams around closely doesn't hear a thing. Most important is the players not hearing guns. Shooting the zombies is a treat, my god, finally! ;)

True, best thing is to wait for a server restart. I usually just switch servers if something like this happens, respawn and get out of the way. Then I return to the old server. It sometimes helps to shoot a truck that is stuck, in order to put it back on the ground again. I know this sounds silly, but it already worked in Arma :) And it doesn't hurt the trucks. I am a bit concerned with hitting invisible bumps and collisions of some trees that are far away from the road, yet somehow crash the truck. Right now this doesn't matter, but I will be quite crossed when I collide with something invisible and it ruins the truck, in the future. So far, I am having a great time with trucks, despite the glitches and problems they sometimes have. On the whole, they are a lot better now than 2 weeks ago! Just one thing I don't understand: the 2 seated truck accelerates a lot faster and drives more stable than the three seater. Kinda wondering why that is, as they are the same model and drive about the same.

A friend just brought this up yesterday, and I thought it was a great idea too. Happy to see the topic is already being discussed! While I also like the polaroid (especially the yellow/black edition that looks like a taxi ^^), I think the Lomo'instant could be an additional camera to think about. First of all it's more fitting than a Polaroid (although the licensed models look cool, Lomo is an Eastern brand). Then Lomos are smaller and you could replicate their different lense settings, as to apply a post effect to the picture ingame. http://microsites.lomography.com/lomo-instant-camera/images/misc/lomo-instant-camera-presale.jpg I dig the idea of carrying actual stashes of pictures with you that give a hint of what happened to that player. Whoever finds/kills you can figure out what you did and perhaps even increase chances to meet you again or leave a note/picture in a spot you often frequent. The addition of pictures could finally give meaning to writing notes and make the whole social aspect so much more special. It would be nice, if the images got duplicated to our Steam screenshot gallery, or if we could arrange them into a "book" and upload separately (as our albums); so we don't lose the pictures completely. It could also be that images have a date or a color code, i.e. yellow, red or blue dot on it, depending on how old they are (yellow ~ 1 week, red ~2-3 weeks, blue ~1 month+), so you can see how long that survivor was running around for (before you killed him ^^). Though that is just an afterthought. Somehow I liked, how some of the mods showed a number of days (e.g." 21 days survived"), and I would like to see some option for that in the standalone. Adding a date to polaroids would already do the trick for me. Oh an using tripods or attaching the camera to furniture/fences to take group selfies would be awesome.

I have similar thoughts on the topic, though I would use a couple of models first that are already in the game. Your tarpaulin stashes seem quite large and suited for a big camp, but I usually go about in a three man group, so we prefer something a bit less grand. There are at least four models of dead trees and treestumps in the game. Some of which would make excelllent hiding places for a stash. I would imagine, you need a knife/axe and some wire to dig a cavity and camoflage it. The stump can only be checked by knowing where to look for the cavity and digging it up. So not too many people would go through the hassle of checking every stump. It could also be possible to move those (empty) stumps around, so you can place them wherever your camp is. I particulary like this idea for the one large stump: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=410716801 http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197974741105/screenshots/ http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=410717027 I think this is actually how bushcrafters hide their gear. A stump could be a great starting point for a small to medium camp.

I still experience the vanishing of my clothes sometimes. I changed my pants for a pristine pair in the airfield tower and my old pants were nowhere to be found. Idk if the assets glitch into walls. I usually empty my clothes before changing them anyway, but if it is only a small problem, it should be fixed. Also, I can cook meat alright, but the fish is bugged for me. It always stays raw and doesn't show a heat change when in the pot, on the fire. I'm puzzled by that, because I remember cooking fish in the earlier update and it worked well. Cooking seems a bit bugged now anyway, as sometimes I only see the state of a piece of meat when I take it out of the pot. However, I guess that's one of the things to be fixed with the 0.55 update.

I carry the same gun in a holster, but also a supressed CR 75. I really dig its bigger magazine and I keep the 1911 as a backup. You are totally right about the small mag. Having a backup magazine for either gun is really great, as you can just press "r" to reload. I like it. It is a lot faster than fumbling around and taking out the magazines in inventory.

We have an ice-axe now. Makes me think there should be more mountain climbing gear! It could be made possible to latch a shackle onto a roof and rapell down. That would be interesting as a tactical alternative to storming in through the front door. But it could also be a quick escape from rooftop fights and an alternative to climbing down stairs; less motion sickness. In the future I imagine there won't be only 2 zombies waiting for you at the bottom of that ladder. There will be ten or twenty. So ideally you might want to not leave the house through the one door where all the zombies are waiting. In an even remoter future of the game, I could also imagine people bivaking on cliffsides, i.e. creating a hanging camp you can only reach with the proper climbing gear and balls of steel. This could be an alternative to tent camps or big base buildings. Probably rather for small groups and lonewolfs than big clans.

I don't have to do it. Other people already did :) Just check youtube: Not perfect, but I am sure the modelers will be able to come up with something more stylish. I described in my earlier posts from what I would craft it. Think about it - in a zombie apocalypse, where do you want to be? On the ground, easy prey, or in the air? It makes total sense. And with an electric engine it would even be silent. Even with a combustion engine it still is a lot more silent than a chopper - and you can turn the engine off and just glide, too.

Killed by lag...how can I avoid high lag servers?
S3V3N replied to vfxtodd's topic in New Player Discussion
Same thing happened to me. Avoid that particular server, either the admins are duping items, or it is not a well-kept server. I had this problem on only one server, which seemed fine most of the time. I think sometimes the lag is caused when multiple vehicles/players drive through the cities in the north (idk why they cause so much more lag than the southern cities). I suggest to do the following: - find a server that seems reasonably populated and stable -> test if consistency works by dropping a backpack and a weapon in a place you'll remember. If either of them disappears after the restart, switch servers again and repeat. - you might wanna check the miltary base south-east of Vybor. When there is a lot of loot in there, it's either from duping or glitching. Tempting as it is to camp these servers, they are usually instable and laggy after a while. - avoid servers that constantly restart (they show a different time every couple of minutes, until the admin stops the restarts, so they can start their gun-harvest.) - look for public servers, 30 people is stable for me and worked fine the past few days. -
I guess the characters only have a certain amount of sockets that allow "attachments", such as layers of clothing (explains why a hoodie will replace a shirt, even though it should go over it - they are the same item class). I guess the Smersh Vest and the Plate Carrier occupy the same class too, which is why it can be only one or the other. Perhaps it would be possible to combine those items and form a new one that replaces the Smersh Vest without Plate with one that has plate added. Man, that's a lot of pockets - you're like a mule when you're all vested up ^^

Anyone else who can't fill water bottles?
S3V3N replied to IgnobleBasterd's topic in General Discussion
I actually tested it and I could fill a bottle while tapping "y", whereas I couldn't drink all without it. So why this works I don't know, but I can confirm it does. Also just drinking a sip and then finishing the whole bottle after that works. -
lol. I don't think ultralight planes are unrealistic. They actually exist outside the world of Mad Max. And "The Road" and "Dayz" is a gap apart. As I recall all life except human was extinct in the Road. Not really the situation we have in Chernarus. Also, no zombies in the Road. Choppers are confirmed, so we might as well think out of the box, too.

Everything is shaking - I am energized, hydrated, yet when I look through the binos or the scope (I have an SKS only) it seems as if I am shaking at a thousand beats a minute. I have had this before and thought it might have been some after-effect from being cold and sick. However, this time everything is dandy and it sill does this very nervous shake. It's also not from running/exhaustion, as it happens all the time and whenever I go scoped. I did take painkillers the other time, but I wonder if the game would tell me anything, if I had to use them now?! I'll try and get back if that helped. >>EDIT: no change after taking painkillers. it's a constant shake, but I am not cold, wet. etc.

When I read this the theme from A-team played in my head ^^ Yes, imagine what we could do with a blowtorch and some steel plates! However, I'd be perfectly happy if these cars would just work out of the box, too. There isn't really that much that can break on them, so unless they are dissembled there is no reason why they would be in parts. I guess most people who use these would be fresh spawns, looking for quick transport along the coast. So shooting bambis on railcars should really be frowned on. I do see a use for the armored version in the northern/north-western territories. You could actually make a roadblock there in a couple of places and wait for prey ^^
-
I have noticed that about a third of the trucks I find is stuck in the geometry. Now, you can push them out easily with another truck, but I'm sure you see the redundancy of that ^^ Instead of needing another car to pull the first one from a fence, why not add the ability to tie rope to the front or back end and haul together with another player. 2 players should be able to move a truck from a ditch together. It will be fun, because it is a cooperative action (Dayz needs more of them) and it will be useful, because these trucks will probably always get stuck somewhere in the future, too. There could even be deliberate terrain changes (mud, sand) that require you to get out and shovel the tires free or pull the truck from a ditch. It would be rewarding to those people who spend their dayz on foot. And it could be interesting for players to bond together.
-
That seems even better than simply pulling together on a rope - though I suspect you'd only need one person to winch a truck out, then. Perhaps you'd need a pole and a hammer to fasten this winch to the ground, in case there are no trees/rocks around to attach it to. Also: where are my beans ;)?

I don't think about parachutes in terms of actually using them for jumping from helis, but more in the sense that you can make a lot of stuff from a parachute. In theory we could even create hot air balloon from parachutes, but that would really not make much sense in gameplay. When I make a suggestion, like crafting a kite plane (or ultralight plane), by strapping an engine to your back, I think of movies like Mad Max and all the post-apo gear we have come to know and love. And since these things fly slowly by nature, they would hardly cause much lag. What I like most about Dayz is the freedom to play as I want to. The chutes, and crafting items from them, would greatly benefit my playstyle. I like to be mobile, but I don't like driving too much. I wanna fly! Even if it is more dangerous and slower. It will cater to a different movement style and create diversity among the player groups. So my parachute would not be so much of a rescue chute but basically a glider; with a crafted backpack engine, when it is enhanced/completed.
-
I adapt ^^ I also still think parachutes are a good idea, but that is another topic. This game just has me constantly thinking "what about this/ how would this influence my playstyle". I don't want too much Arcade feeling gameplay in Dayz, but I think some reality issues should be treated softer for the sake of having a better gameplay experience. It helps a lot that there are already so many items in the game that could easily be expanded into having some real functionality (like the beehives) or which could be given additional purpose (like the rope + shackles/mooring anchor).

Lool, I swear I didn't see the spelling mistake. That's kinda hilarious! I should have written "abseiling". You know - I sense a lot fewer broken legs with the engine update; that seems to be a collision issue with the current engine. If It can't be made interactive, it could still offer you "rappel down" as an option. If the bow/crossbow allowed for it, we could also shoot ziplines across buildings. Also, if you don't have enough rope you can't rappel down the highest buildings, I'd think.
-
Ok, so my thread was closed: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/222064-basejumping/#entry2230712 BUT I'll continue explaining here, why parachutes are a good thing. I like Aubinators suggestions too, so I add them to the list : Repack after use? Yes! Multiple uses (not just for para)? Yes Used as a backpack if emptied instead? Yes! Even if they are not used to basejumping, the parachute has multiple uses and purposes. 1. shelter - with wood and rope you can make a decent 1-man-shelter. Once you can camo paint it it will be virtually invisible. This could replace the much beloved crates from the Origins mod. It would be smaller than a tent and therefore less visible. 2. improvised glider - add a lawnmoyer engine, a propellor/fan, gasoline and a backpack to it and you have a glider that can takeoff virtually anywhere. It's slower than a chopper, but it could be the first airborne vehicle and it would make sense to me to build something like it (rather than a chopper) first. It can give you a tactical advantage or help spot loot. Of course the range would be very limited and it could use 2-stroke oil, instead of petrol as to make it less available and used purposefully. 3. sails - possible addition: craftable raft. Sail up or down the coast, instead of running. I'm sure there will be more islands in the future, so we can certainly use some craftable raft without an engine. 4. Camo - several chutes stitched together could be used as a camoflage cover to conceil vehicles under. And so on. I think there are many uses for a chute, even if nobody seems to see it could be fun to basejump. Breaking your legs isn't a problem in the SA. Morphium/Splint and you are good to go again.
-
Okay, this is probably not the most useful thing yet, unless you are somewhere in Cherno or on a radio tower. However, basejumping could be an interesting alternative to climbing stairs, etc. Not only is it a total pain to climb down each apartment building again, after you checked for tents, it's also a potential deathtrap. I also get quite a sense of Vertigo up on these roofs and would love to just run and jump off (and not die ^^) sometimes. Players can wait for you and gun you down at the only exit. (Unless you are on a house that is connected to its sibling by a shared roof.) Basejumping could offer you a quick escape, in case someone else is on the roof or you are being chased. Once on the ground you could chose either to abandon the chute (cut lose), or to pack it up (10 seconds or more). A chute that is damaged or less than pristine may open later or fail completely. So each jump can also mean a potential risk. The chutes should not be found easily and spawn only on certain airfield locations. You should be able to patch them up with ducttape. The chute itself could also be a base for a makeshift tent. It would give you an edge in a chase to know you can jump off a ledge. Some locations could be tweaked to allow for basejumping and gliding through a valley/canyon; there is still a lot of empty space to plan/add such areas. They could shorten long walks and later, when there are more aircraft they could be used for parajumping or even constructing/fixing an ultralight plane. There is always the risk of getting shot at (since they are moving slow), but the payoff in terms of fun and free transport might be worth it. What I'm not entirely sure about is if wearing a chute means you have to abandon your backpack. I can't see how both would work at the same time, irl. I also think this idea may be more interesting in, let's say, the next version of Dayz, which could play in the US (New York) with lots of places to jump from and make sense, too.

What's with the German version of Dayz that I got by buying it on Steam? A lot of buttons and prompts don't show up in my game. For example, the button where it says "add to favorites", in the browser window is blank, therefor it only appears at all when I hover over it. Ingame a lot of the combination and attachments prompts for weapons, etc. aren't showing up. Instead of saying "remove supressor" or whatever it is supposed to say, there is just a blank. And that is not only happening with the novelty items from the latest patch, but also with cooking pots on fireplaces and so on. It never says "take" or "remove" or whatnot. The spaces are just blank. And there is no German localisation anyway, or is there? Because the rest of my game (actions, descriptions) is in English, too.

Are characters stored separately on consistent/non-consistent servers?
S3V3N posted a topic in General Discussion
I joined a 30 player server with persistency off. I later realized my mistake and wanted to switch back to a 30 player server with persistency on. But it spawned my random character model again. With nothing on it. Does that mean, I can only play the character on non-persistiant servers and vice-versa? Bugs me a bit that I didn't try switching servers earlier, but I had basically forgotten the last server I connected to isn't consistent. Also, both are public servers. I guess it is either/or? I can see why this might be done, because it's probably easier to loot on non-persistant servers. At least it wseems so - I found 3 tents in the same apartment within 10 minutes ^^. -
2 days later now. Have you been un-stuck? Also, can they help when you are stuck under the map, e.g. in a truck? Should I get out of the vehicle in that case?
