  1. I'm quite amazed you managed to shoot non of your own! It's pretty difficult sometimes and the armbands you can craft are only useful when you are close up or sniping, but not when everyone is panicking and running around. Good job, I dread the day one of our bases is found and this shit happens to our camp ^^ Do the grenades only take down trees, or do they damage the tents, too? I hope they don't. I wonder if it actually makes a difference if a tent is pristine or damaged.
  2. The funny thing when I read Eugen's twitter is: the game isn't hard at all. It is supereasy for my group right now, because we took everything to our tents, have lots of weapons and food, supplies, etc. On the other hand the game is nearly impossible when I respawn at the coast. Cherno, Elektro and everything up there is now virtually empty. And even the smaller villages and everything else on the way up north is getting pretty empty. Yes, clothes seem to respawn, but that's about it. Sometimes I find a lonely can or two, but not enough, really. With the group, on the other hand. I call for a pickup, get taken to the camp and gear up and get myself to health. It's easy! So at the moment you are punished for lonewolfing, unless you have a stash somewhere already. It's not hard for those who went looting early on and took all the good gear. It's hard for those who just start playing and who have nothing. And the lack of cooking equipment and bugged spawns make it no fun survival alternatives. I don't know why those items weren't fixed with the rest...

What's a good idea in your book? It doesn't take much to post some comment. Make a suggestion, this is a SUGGESTIONS thread.
  4. Who knows - maybe you'll find an M4 next. Keep your eyes open for chopper crashes ;)

    Lost Gear

Yeah, this is bad luck at server restarts! It's best to know when about a server restarts (every 4 hours now) and avoid dropping anything in the last five-ten minutes before a restart, Similar things will happen when you are in a truck, as the truck will respawn where you left it, but you will be in the location where you last had your feet on the ground; only happened to me during server restarts. I found a nice stable server and know it restarts at 3:00, 7:00 and so on. I lost my AK-101 with scope and silencer + bipod too, but I drove the truck against the low end of a fence which caused it to spin into the ground and kill me. I'm sorry to hear that, but if you manage to find a police car or check some of the police stations in the north, you should be able to find an MP5 and mags are currently still plenty. It's a great gun for zombie killing and comparably easy to come by. If not an MP 5 you will most likely find a RAK. Another Ak-101 will probably take a while for you to find. I haven't seen one in ages, and I play 0.55 like a true lunatic whenever I can ^^ I hope the next update fixes a lot of problems with the current loot, but I believe these particular problems with server restarts will persist for a while...

    More Russian Vehicles

This is the Russian Pobeda on track wheels. It's been in limited production during 1949/50. One of the world's first SUV - and a damn cool looking machine! Why limit ourselves to mere cars, when the Russians build such awesome stuff - like hovervans ^^

    Does DayZ need aeiral transport?

The problem I see is that the choppers will probably be a bitch to maintain and keep in the air. So you need a big crew by default to get a chopper going. And most likely that won't be random survivors that grouped together on the coast. It will be organised groups that get the choppers, first. And that's fine, as far as realism goes, but as long as we can't hide tents better or lock storage it will mean whoever finds a chopper will find all tents soon after. And let's be honest, the map is perfectly fine to travel on truck, it doesn't really need choppers. In the mods you have Salvation City or remote islands to fly to. There's none of that here. I could imagine the following scenarios and settings that make use of choppers legit: a ) changes to the map environment: e.g. there could be places that are extremely dangerous and complicated to reach, like certain mountaintops or new remote islands. A chopper would be an convenient way to get there b ) culling of player constructed ground objects: if you wanna find tents you have to fly extremely low, risking to get shot at. If you fly any higher than 10 feet over the trees, the tents will become invisible to chopper crews. c ) certain abilities may be required to fly a chopper. And let's just assume you can find and pick those up somehow. It would mean that one group may have a chopper, but another group has a pilot, which brings them together. Also: of course you can fly a chopper without proper training, but there could be something like "focus" or "concentration" that strains the untrained player, so he cannot fly as much or far as a trained pilot. I massively enjoyed the choppers in the mods, but I thought there were too many of them (numbers and models) and they were too easy to upkeep. I also don't think chopper should be armed. A Little Bird will be fine + it will support flying at low altitudes best and give you a chance to kill someone inside from the ground. I don't know how many is a good number, but perhaps 2/map and 2 Cessnas.

.55 loot, I'll just leave it at this.

But you can harvest them quickly and he will just put them on the ground (where they stay pristine). To my knowledge vegetables only rot real fast, when you don't manage to harvest the plant.

    Helicopter crash site loot 0.55

Do they still spawn in the same locations? I'm about to punish some serverhopper clan that come on our server for five minutes after restart, only to loot all choppers and disappear again. I've read elsewhere that someone looted a chopper, which despawned after the restart. If the chopper crashes get fixed this hopping hopefully ends again. It's almost an exploit at the moment.

    .55 Base

First of all - other people may have taken the tents already. We found 2 with our group within a week, but we travel basically once around the map, each time we play, always focusing on different areas, always coming back to our main base in the end, to log off together. I do believe the loot is not completely random, as there seems to be a spawn for military loot in the yellow/orange two storey house (downstairs), as well as in the piano house. Those are the two places I found militents at, but since outhouses have a small chance to spawn military gear and they spawn the most gear at the moment, you could get lucky there. There also seems to be military loot spawning in the green house that is on the picture of his base, here. But I rarely see stuff in those green houses. Picked up an ammobox there 3 days ago. Looting only these locations may give you a slightly higher % of success than looting random buildings, but don't expect to get lucky, soon. I was never looking for the tents on purpose, just happened to come across them on our regular tours. And I am quite happy about that. However, I cannot scroll down in the tent, so bascially I can only use 90 of the 250 slots. This needs a fix, soon! --- Back to the topic: nice looking base! But I prefer to hide mine in dense woodwork and away from buildings. Our biggest base is 5 minutes from Cherno, yet it is virtually invisible and you need to get really close to spot it. A plain to see base like yours is more likely to get raided. And don't zombies spawn there, too?

    Slight Shaking Issue?

You need to make a fire. I don't know why there is no info ingame, but making a fire will mend it. You can even just put in some sticks, not wood. It takes like 20 seconds to stop the shaking.

    How was your Day(Z)?

You need to drop his gear on the ground perhaps and not pull it onto your character?! I had some problems picking up certain items from dead players, unless I put down e.g. my own gun first. It wouldn't just switch gear or let me pick up his backpack without putting my own away and dragging his onto the ground, first.
  14. S3V3N

.55 loot, I'll just leave it at this.

Yeah, I see the point made, but I digress from it. Too much good has come from this patch to deny its potential. Agreed, spawns are fucked up. Military installations should still spawn more military gear, but not to the point where you find 5 rifles at the same time. It should be made so everyone can get a chance to loot and get lucky, not just the clans that used to own those places, due to sheer manpower. Dayz used to have a system that didn't encourage travel; it encouraged server hopping. Now we are forced to travel, and we will travel more when the loot becomes more localized/specific and once the balancing is sorted out a bit better. Devs probably have no clue about what do improve, until they get concrete feedback. Which is what we are providing by playing. And the opinions about this are split. I see these types of players emerge: a) instant gratification = you want to know where to go and find what you expect to find there. If nothing is there you feel cheated. B) survivalists = you want to live off the land, but the current mechanics (bow not working, can't carve fish filet, can't cut seeds from vegetables) and lack of cooking equipment make this nearly impossible (ok, but you can still farm!) c) the faithful = you waited long and patiently for Dayz to become an apocalyptic game, instead of a shooter with loot. You see the game coming together and starting to work the way you always imagined; you will wait longer and deal with the flaws d) the have-it-alls = you spend 10 hours a day looting and have 12 tents packed with all the gear other people are looking for. You have one tent just for your MP5 mags. So somewhere in these categories I picture each player will find himself represented. Maybe even a mix of two of them, depending on how your day was and how your last session went. I know this was a tough update, and I have been closer to death by starvation or loss of blood than I would have liked much too often. But in the end it is suddenly more gratifying to find a can of peaches and focus less on merely getting guns and ammo. Food is a necessity, guns are a commodity. I deal with the necessities first, build a camp, find a truck. Then I roam around for loot and I have died less in this patch than all the times before, when I was shot, usually from a distance, usually at a high gain loot spawn. This patch is good, imho. It will just become better when everone realizes they need to travel more and cooperate more often. The north is suddenly much more attractive. And I love the environments and challenges (lot of zombies) there.
  15. You found a banana on the road??? I haven't found a banana in Dayz since 0.54 ;) Here is a picture from the Czech Republik, where the inspiration for the original ARMA map was conceived:

    Bad Framerate

Are you in a truck or just running about? I had some serious framerate drops today, but each time my computer was busy on something. Perhaps Windows downloaded some updates today. If you open the task manager you can rightclick on Dayz and set its priority to high. That means more computing power will be diverted to Dayz than to other applications that are waiting in the background. However, I had no need to check if it actually changes anything. It's just something I do when rendering 3D objects to give more power to Maya. You should disable edge smoothing. It's a post-process that isn't optimized with the current render engine. I doubt it will look much worse without it. Texture filtering will just sharpen distanced objects, so it is also of no to little use. HDR can probably be turned off, as it essentially changes the lighting based on the skybox, which isn't changing at the moment. It probably does look nicer when turned on, but I doubt you can't play without. At least trying out some of those settings should improve your framerate. The most costly process is probably the anti-aliasing, or edge smoothing as it is called in Dayz.
  17. I have a bluetooth headset, and Dayz and Teamspeak don't want to work together. First of all, I had to run TS as admin, in order to hear my friends when I start up Dayz. Otherwise they would just be muted. Then I had to use push to talk, because both other options muted my friends again. Now when I push-to-talk my friends are getting muted, so I sometimes don't hear them in a heated situation/fight. Which is a problem. I have a logitech USB/Bluetooth headset. Does anyone have similar sound problems and maybe found a way to fix this? Is there maybe something else that would work better (Mumble or whatnot)? I usually work out the kinks with Teamspeak and other games, but I think I give up on Dayz. Push to talk in Dayz is a pain in the ass too, because virtually every button on the keyboard is assigned to do something in Dayz ^^ I'd really like to be able to chat with my friends, but I don't really wanna go on Skype for it. What's the best solution, you can think of? Bluetooth is a problem.

    How was your Day(Z)?

Holy shit what a day :) We have a nice little camp with three tents and a militent in the south. Today, we decided to put another tent in the respawn area near Svetlojarsk. Just some basic stuff in it, so we can have some basic equipment/food. (If anyone else finds it they will be happy it's there, too :) ) My friend found another tent in one of the hangars at the harbor. We then looted a little bit around Novomitrovsk and Severograd. I got surprised by a server restart while I was running through one of the red containers. Dead on respawn. My friend managed to pick up all my stuff and I was lucky enough to respawn north of Severo. Lost my pants and boots and most that was in it, but I keep the good stuff in the vest or backpack anyway. We proceeded to the northern military base (the one with bunkers). I managed to crash the truck into the tree there and we lost the front tires and the tank leaked. So the rest of the way was on foot. I took 40 rounds for the SKS which wasn't quite enough; there are a lot of zombies up north and at that base they come swarming from the forest when you shoot one. I used up twenty shots, while my friend was running around trying not to get hit. We then went north to Krasnoe and Stary Yar, in order to look for another truck. I found another tent at a car as we went through Kamensk and we decided to make a northern camp, too. So we found a spot and logged off to eat in real life. I came back first and roamed around that area and north of Krasnoe is a street full of military gears. Found 2 Rak and an MP5 there. Took one Rak and the MP. Lots of clothes too. I build one tent, so I could stuff all my gear in it. Because I had respawned I was loosing health and found myself starving soon after. We didn't take food from our base, but I did take pumpkin seeds. My friend still didn't log on, so I decided to plant the seeds in a greenhouse in Stary Yar. One pumpkin got me back to energized and stuffed. There are a lot of outhouses up there and also some deerstands that spawn loot. To my biggest surprise I found yet another tent and shortly after a military tent inside the piano house. It took a bit of running around to relocate my first tent to a bigger spot, where I could hide the military tent better. After setting everything up my friend connected again and we organised the northern camp together. After looting those two villages, we filled up the tents and made our way back to the truck. (lot of outhouses up there!) Soon the server restart followed and we were able to take our old truck again and go "home" - to the southern camp. However, I needed to get hydrated, so we went to Kamensk again. There are tons of zombies in that small town! I had run out of ammo and started chopping zombies down. Surprisingly I could evade some hits easily and stunned them with the fireaxe. 3-4 hits and they are down. Just when we were about to leave, I decided to take another quick look around for loot and found a CR75! I have been carrying a mag for it for at least a week now. Good thing patience pays out in Dayz! On the way south, I spotted something on the road and told my friend to stop. It was a fully equipped MP5 with silencer, buttstock and optics. All attachments are pristine, but the gun itself was damaged. I dropped my last pumpkin to make space and we hit the road again. No problem getting back to the camp. Back at camp I attached the scope to the M4 I had found at a chopper crash. I used the silencer on the CR75, as I don't need to carry two automatic weapons and I prefer a pistol over the MP5 for shooting zombies. I sneak around a lot, however my friend loves to run everywhere. But somehow we make a good team! Strangely enough we never met anyone, even though there were 10-15 people playing. Strange I say, because this whole tour took 6 hours, but we now have 3 camps, and I definitely love the one in the north already. It was a good day, despite my death by container. If I hadn't wrecked the truck at that tree/base, we would have probably never gone to those places and never found all the tens and weapons. You have to go with the flow sometimes and let the game decide where your mistakes take you: either to doom or to salvation :)
  19. FYI, I found ammo at a chopper crash. 2 Double mags and 2 Cmag = 180 shots. I never ever found ammo for the M4 anywhere else. So I try to conserve the ammo, although I quite got a lot thanks to that chopper. But it was sheer luck. We really need to find that ammo elsewhere, too! I also never found a Mag for Ak 101, plenty for AKM and some for Ak74, though. And scopes, lots of scopes... NETTING - where is it? Does it even spawn? Some things seem to refuse spawning at the moment. I have 16 burlap strips that just take up space in the inventory and nothing I can do with them, now. I wanna go full ghillie, now that I know persistence works on our server.

    Post Your Gear So Far

And this was six-seven hours later. Found a scope for the M4. BTW, I play only on a public server, and I don't serverhop! The outfit is horrible, but I left the helmet at camp and took whatever gear fit after getting crushed under a container at server restart. The scope (M68 CompM2 Optics) is totally awesome!!! Also found a CZ75 today. And got mag and silencer.
  22. Fun thing is that if you have too many zombies on the back of the truck it won't move any more. I had to shoot five zombies off its back to clear the truck and get moving again ^^ Also that truck probably didn't spawn at the police station. They seem to be all over the map and main roads (most notably the coast road), as people hit stuff and run out of gas or simply run out of gas. Once I find a truck, I usually see 2-3 other trucks within an hour.
  23. I found no netting at all since the patch. The boats spawn some loot, but for me it's been more or less just pills and that sorta stuff. They are picked clean in most places, too.

    No Loot Spawning?

Did you try out the bow? It's currently not working at all. My character just goes into a fistfight stance, perspective all messed up and the bow isn't shooting the arrow I've loaded. It did stay on the ground for at least one day now, so I guess the problem with crafted items disappearing too quickly has been sorted out.
  25. S3V3N

    No Loot Spawning?

Are there any experiences with persistence on the servers that spawn so much loot? Did you pitch a tent there and did it stay after restarts? I have the suspicion that on some servers persistency isn't working right. As a positive result you get more loot spawning. As a negative result I believe your tents will disappear after 1 or 2 restarts. Can someone confirm this? I play on a server that is pretty empty now. Makes it a bit boring to go looting, but at least I can shoot some zombies ^^ On the other hand, the server seems very stable and kept our tents and hundreds of items in them, so far. And I do find enough loot to sustain me and have farming equipment for emergencies. Fishing still doesn't work, btw. All it will give you is a pile of guts, no fillet o' fish ^^ The cooking and lootspawns need an overhaul. Bows need to be fixed, too.
