I keep seeing models for the "beehives" (not the romantic ones we know from Cartoons, but the ones that look like boxes stacked on top and next to each other.) So, I thought - how about collecting honey and beeswax as a side effect. The honey could be powerfood, similar to the Milkpowder. I guess you wouldn't harvest very much of it and there should be a limited supply over time. To use the beeswax, you would have to heat it over a fire. Then you could combine it with woolen clothing to make waterproof clothes (aka Barbor jackets). This would have 2 positve effects: - every civilian clothing could be waterproofed. - you would spend less time freezing or being cold from rain The beeswax and honey could also have other uses, too. You could craft candles or make torches, waterproof blankets with it and build a makeshift tent. Since the model for the bee cages is already present, all it would need is to add the mechanics and some bee hum sounds. It could also be an idea to craft a beekeepers veil from netting and perhaps a helmet or a hat. Or smoke pearls (crafted from charcoal, matches and plant material) to keep the bees away while you are harvesting. Otherwise getting stung could result in high temperature or an infection/allergic reaction. You never know until you tried ;)! It seems like a comparably simple feature to add. It would free us from either using military gear to be waterproof, or using raincoats in mostly "target-practice" colors. Of course it is a bit of an effort to get the wax and heat it, but it means you can wear what you want and still be waterproof.

I have some questions about horses: How do you catch a horse? Are we just assuming everybody knows how to "lasso" a horse from the getgo? Also how dangerous would riding one be? When they get startled and you fall off, will you die? Can you catch a horse with a beartrap and heal your horses' injuries? Can you call it by whistle? Do you need to make horseshoes to go fast? How quickly would a horse fatigue, if at all? Can a horse get sick from drinking pond water? Can you craft a saddle/have an inventory? Can you get kicked by a horse and die? Can you shoot while riding a horse? As an alternative to horses, why not have donkeys, or donkeys too? They fit the countryside perhaps better than lots of horses, which are more often kept for sport rather than for labor. Some wild horses would be nice, but just a small herd or two would do. A donkey or mule could be a great carrier, if you are able to find or craft saddlebags. Also a reason to plant carrots ^^ The donkey could be great comic relief, I love the sounds they make. It could also have coded-in stubborness and sometimes refuse to move, making it somewhat of a hazard in risky situations.

Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
S3V3N replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
This is the most idiotic mechanic they could have come up with. I don't wanna walk around with my best rifles and gear when I could just randomly die at any time without any notice. When lighting strikes, at least you get heavy rain first. It doesn't even make sense, since we heal and get back to healthy stages entirely. But I learned not to argue with Dayz Devs, because everything will be fine. Just wait, the beta will be megastable, have hundred player servers with thousands of infected and 60 frames. Oh and also Santa really exists (he's at the bottom of the factory chimneys)! -
I have another suggestion, the Taurus 2x2. Though this one might not fit the time period, it is a pretty interesting vehicle, as you could basically find its parts, carry them to your base and assemble there (with the help of some tools, like screwdriver and wrench). It could be a nice thing to drive between your camps or for going hunting. It's also nimble enough to go on stairs and could be more versatile in that way than most other vehicles. If you ever get stuck, you could dissemble it and assemble it again on the other side of the obstacle. The image is of the newer version, the video is of the first version. There are also different solutions for tires, so eventually this could proabably even fit into a single backpack. Video: Website (more info): http://www.jebiga.com/taurus-2x2-motorcycle/ Also this GAZ 46 could be a nice alternative to boats for now. Fits 5 so pretty cool:

Honey cones> risk versus food, antibiotics and cold resistant
S3V3N replied to hemmo's topic in Suggestions
I covered that topic some weeks ago. But I still think it is a good suggestion. First, the clothes needs proper stats though. Fireman clothes and Riders Jacket get ruined in one hit, while my Jacket seems to stay infinitely pristine. Leather clothes aren't waterproof, etc. Lot to do there, first. Here is the topic I made for Beeswax. Pretty interesting responses! http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/221795-honeycombs-food-and-beeswax/?hl=honey -
If you just want them for cover, why not chop down some bushes and drag them across your tent and along the sides as camoflage? Could be just another option for cutting bushes (cut kindling -> + cut branches) I think in order to place something that you can grow in the current Dayz engine, you need to put down a dynamic object of some kind first. Like the garden plots or the soil inside the greenhouses. There would be something on the ground where you place a tree, so it wouldn't look as plain as the rest of the terrain, from nearby. I'm not entirely sure if that is the case, but I don't think you can just plant something in the terrain without placing some kind of foundation for it, first. I think the current trees are instances (not sure about that either), so they aren't quite the same as dynamic objects placed by a player; they use up far less resources that way.

I saw a video perhaps half a year ago, where the tents were first shown and it was talked about spraying them, much like you can spray the rifles (green/black/camo). I don't think it is a priority right now, but probably will be a feature, since it should take next to no work to implement it. Just needs some new skins made for tents that can replace the generic ones. In fact the damaged model is already just a different skin, so I guess this feature will be coming soon. Until then you can learn to build tents and hide them properly. It's quite fun finding a good spot. I usually think about where I never go and which routes I take the least, as well as places of interest nearby, before setting up a tent anywhere. Only one campsite was discovered so far. And that was plainly in the edge of the map, so probably the worst (most obvious) place for a camp.

A great idea! Embassy buildings are usually quite stately and interesting. It would be an alternative to those that can't reach the islands or loot in completely different areas (like Novomotrovsk). I think it would be interesting to have the island I spoke about connected through a bridge, so we could already go there that way now and have more options later when there are rafts or boats. But I like the embassy idea! You could probably get some unique stuff there and it makes sense that they have an armory. It could really be any European country, as we have seen in the pictures posted in the thread that the FAL or BAF where used all over the globe.

What happens when you take the gas cooker into your hands now? I think you just crafted a comedy gold melee weapon ^^ Screenshot of the results please. I expect hundreds of zombies slain with this gas powered melee wonder!!!

I beat food poisoning ("sick") today by doing nothing but running around, eating/drinking and sitting at the fire. It's been a bad day for food poisoning and a good day for me ;)

Go north from Elektro to Topolka Dam to "kometa" holiday camp. Let us know if you find nothing there. If so, I believe loot spawns on that server are broken. You can serverjump in that area to figure out how it looks on other servers. Just be careful, there are usually 3-4 zombies there.

Heh, yeah. Thanks! I tend to go a bit offtopic, because well...Dayz just does that with me. Dreams upon dreams upon dreams - the game is like an onion and we are only peeling away the outer layers :) What I meant to say was: give these places character! If I find a gun/rifle in an area that looks like it would have this loot irl, I will most likely go there and enjoy myself more than when I find the same item in an outhouse by chance. We have seen so many models made for Dayz. And they are all great models, yet we still see 90% of the buildings that were already in the mods. Actually the mods had some cooler ones. I don't need 20 more melee weapons at this point, but I would like some more diversity in the environment. Prison Island was a great start at that, but it could be taken to a whole new level with the areas I described in my prior post.

I actually had some problems with the health system at first too, coming from the mods. It's really not that complex though, basically think of it as a meter: hunger: starving-----hungry-----neutral-----energized thirst very thirsty-----thirsty-----neutral-----hydrated body dying-----sick-----neutral-----healing-----healthy stomach growling------neutral-----stuffed This is very simplified and probably half wrong, but somewhere along those lines is how I explain this system to myself. So it is not as simple as in the mod. Being healthy depends on several systems that are all linked. Let's say you are stuffed from eating an entire package or rice and some milk powder (both of which make you very thirsty). You might be "energized" and "stuffed" because your stomach is full, yet you will be thirsty, because you ate all the dry stuff. If you drink now, most likely you will start puking (because you are stuffed), which causes you to lose energy and diminishes the effect of having eaten all those calories before. It's good to keep the hunger and thirst in the green (hydrate and energized), because then you won't have to worry abourt outbalancing one or the other. If you cannot find food, you should change servers or try to find a truck and drive around, until you come across some villages with loot. With the rollback to the old loot system came along the loot explosions, so while there are places that may be almost empty, there are others overcrowding with food and gear. The holiday villages all seem to spawn a decent (to ludicrous) amount of gear and food. So I recommend heading towards one of those to gear up. This is all gonna change again soon when the central loot economy is brought back. When you are fed and healthy and have some patience, you could also go along the coast road, as I always find at least one truck there. People seem to run out of gas in odd places and after the restart the trucks are refueled and ready to go. I promise that with a truck you will never go hungry, because you can quickly check out a town and move on when you find nothing there. The two public servers I play on both spawn a decent amount of loot, but only one of them seems to have the loot explosions.

This is really cool! This is how I imagine the future camps, just protected by mines and bear traps and alarms and such. It's either that or hiding three tents in some bushes, like what I do ^^ The only problem with a camp like this is that from the position you took the screenshot from, you can take out the entire camp when they all rush towards the center. Also: anyone else feel like this is a different game now with working persistence? I really just even like to come online to sit at the camp and chill with the other guys for some minutes. It's not running around for hours only to get shot and lose all your loot (or shooting someone else, but having no space for his stuff anyway). I also really like trucking. I've been everywhere man ;)

I'd actually dig it if there was a foreign army base on a new island, which only spawns weapons of a certain type. It's not unusual for countries that want protection to allow foreign countries to build a base on their land; they'd usually rent that space, but have souvereignity inside the base. This could make for some interesting and unique places, as e.g. you'd suddenly find yourself in a more "western" looking environment with teapots and Union Jacks galore. This base could be from post cold-war times, so it wouldn't challenge the NATO base, which is sure to come in the North-West. The NATO base would probably have the most modern weapons and equipment, while the older outpost would have all the guns used before that, like the FAL or BAR rifles. It could also be that the workshop buildings can only be found at such locations, so you could go there to modify your weapons or piece something together from the parts you found around that base. I think it would be neat to have bases that each differently represent their respective era. So it would start with the old russian/communist bases (1960-80), then there would be the post cold war base (1985-1999) and finally the rather huge NATO outpost which has all the latest decontaimination gear and along with it the most modern weapons and equipment (2000-2010). That way you get some places of original interest, which also could be interesting simply for their different designs/looks. I would not mind finding an FAL at the British site, but i would mind finding it in a supermarket or inside a toilet house. I think weapons like these should still be earned by finding a) a way to get on location, b)challenging environments/danger, PvP favoured areas. The risk is only having too many of these areas, which will spread the players too thin. I think there already are a lot of bases, but they seem to concentrate on the center and western part of the map and all the way up. I never quite got it why there isn't even a Camp at Berezino (e.g. for quarantine), since this area is so large, but without any military presence. Instead, there is a base in the northern forest, which nobody knows of why it is there. Could be a training facility of old days, but it sure looks dull despite the bunkers.

You have a point, but I think it is not about realism, but about believability. The whole Rifi sight looks wrong to me. The ship would never have washed ashore and broken into parts on what is essentially a beach with shallow water. It also has a lot of empty space inside that would house generators and installations, but there is nothing there in terms of believability. It's simply a boring place from close up, just a nice landmark for screenshots from afar. It also puzzles me there are no other ships in any of the other harbors. There is just another wreck near Skalisty Island that has already been on the Arma II map; that's in a far more believable spot though. The trains in some of the mods actually have convincing looking passenger compartments with modeled interiors (though you cannot enter them). I always thought something like this would be a more fitting railway car than the cattle transport cars with the ladder. Though there probably should be all of these: civilian transport, oil/liquid chemical waggons and flatbed cars with different loadouts. Maybe there could be some cranes that let you drop containers either to let you explore what's inside or to drop them on enemies below. I guess dropping them wouldn't require electricity but hauling the containers back up would. It's kind of a gimmicky thing anyway, but I would definitely say: look at some harbors and how their infrastructure works. Electro for example, seems to be the largest port on the map, but I am missing container transport (usually those aren't trucks but specialized vehicles), proper loading and unloading zones and in general some point of interest at these harbor sites (like military ships or a sportboat/sailing boat harbor. I live in a harbor city and there are museum ships here, old fireship and rescue, docks for repairs, restaurant ships, etc. All of these would make excellent and interesting sites and give us a reason to explore the harbor in Cherno and Elektro, too. Maybe these areas will be reworked, as everything beyond the coast road seems to be of no interest at all at this time. So yeah, in the bigger picture a lot of these things would help create a more diversified and interesting map. A lot of places are really too empty at the moment, including the airports. Yet, these are all unfinished areas from how I see it. I hope more is in planning to make these areas more believable and also interesting to explore. However, as long as we have large empty spots on the map, I suppose the main work will go into these new areas, maybe later there'll be some attention again on giving the map and the cities in particular more individuality. A friend of mine always mixes up Cherno and Elektro. I find it kind of hard to do so, because Cherno has the bombed hotel. However, without it Cherno actually looks like any other city. I always took it for the capital, but that might as well be Elektro or Nowomitrowsk at this point.

How do I do this spoiler thing? Can't see it.

IV kits are always grouped with bloodbags inside medkits but never with saline bags. So I guess I hate medkits. Also, not much love for flare gun ammo. Bolts and arrows.

I was calmly going through the Zelenogorsk barracks and only had the prison building left, so I entered it last. All this time there was a guy sitting inside the building (must have heard me crash my truck ^^) and just waiting for me to open the door. And then it was one of these Pulp Fiction moments. He fired the MP5 at me and must have shot all around me, because I didn't take a single hit. I ran towards him and fired the CR75. 7 shots later he was dead. The last two were just to make sure ^^. This guy fired 20 rounds at me, waited in prone all that time and didn't hit once. I have some bad XP with the MP5 in PvP, but my god that was even new to me. And he carried 4 protective cases, not the greatest stuff, but since I had only a pistol, I could pick up his Mosin (why didn't he use that...) and his silenced MP5. That was a lot of fun. Especially since the guy had been in that base before me, and I could just take his truck too, which was parked conveniently behind the base. Then I played with a friend, who is a bit trigger happy. I already got him to stop shouting "friendly, friendly" and then opening fire anyway. So let's hope he will also learn to appreciate tactical superiority, instead of firing at anything he sees moving. It can get quite annoying to be honest, since that type of players are the only ones I actually enjoy shooting ingame. Everybody else gets a pass or shoots me. Anyway that friend later died due to glitch in the Kometa holidaycamp. I picked him up again, gave him my MP5 and took him back to Kometa, which had 5 chainsaws lying around. Considering we had very little at the beginning, it is almost sad to see we now have four tents and quite a lot of ammo and rifles. Itis just so easy, especially when you are running a truck. I need to keep a weapons cleaning kit with me, because I lost my trusty CR75 today, which was already damaged, and I had to shoot some zombies with it and got hit and ruined that pistol. It's a sweet pistol. At least I still have the mags. Hopefully I'll find an FNX again, but those mostly spawn at chopper sites? I don't know. All in all it was a good day, but I'm starting to think I am playing with the wrong people. I don't play like that at all. I don't even enjoy shooting people if they just run around. I just like it when it happens in surprise situations like in the milibase and the other guy eats it :)
-
Why? And how ;) I really wonder why we need to do this, since we already save our pics on an external site. Is it a bandwidth issue? I'll try using spoilers, I just need to look for what to do before posting, next time.

I don't care if the loot system wasn't 100% ready
S3V3N replied to billyangstadt's topic in General Discussion
I liked the new system a lot, and I don't really see why it could not be tweaked to work. I guess it just needs more time as a whole. One of the best things about it was the stability of servers. Today I had more lag and desync than I think ever before in the game. And I still can't filet the fish, choppers still respawn on site, I find invisible fruit and the bow is going to be working in 0.56 (hopefully). So some of the survival stuff was not touched or fixed yet, either. I did travel around quite a bit today, but kept mainly to the south. I had a lot more reason to go around and explore before. However, I was on really low pop servers today and had two firefights, both near a military base. This sense of danger at the military installations is quite nice. Especially when the zombies suddenly pop out from everywhere in the woods ^^ I also hope the other system will work again, but with some localized loot and police cars and stuff inside police stations spawning correctly again. -
It will be there for you bro :) I can relate to that. I love that tent too. Wish I had one again.
-
The third one used to be behind Stary Sobor. Idk if these chopper still spawn the way they do. Probably do, because I still see a lot of serverhopping.

1) just restarted building the camp again t'day. Shot a guy in Zeleno (he shot first) got four protector cases off him and a mosin and MP5; I only had a pistol, so could carry a lot. These cases are in one of the tents now + his rifles. If possible I put 1 rifle/tent, because I am not sure how persistent they are when put on the ground. Then we have some food in the tents, farming stuff, rope and wire, sewing kits (!) matches, and until we build the fireplace there is also a pot and a tripod. I usually have one tent for mags and ammo, scopes etc. in front of the tent is a green mountain backpack, which has a jerry can in it and a few other things (brass knuckles, more matches...) 2) 3 tents and 1 backpack. Might get more backpacks. 3) 1 truck (2 seats); also courtesy of the guy I shot in Zeleno ^^ Campsite 1

Hmm yeah but have you flown one in the mods? I was really excited about them, but they are terrible to fly in the mods and need almost the same runway as a small plane. I also got shot at during takeoff quite a lot, because it takes too long to start them. I think that might have been a problem of the mods though, because irl they are almost as good as helicopters, aren't they? (short landing and takeoff fairly quickly) I suggested in another thread to use parachutes (which you can find at airfields then) and a 2-stroke engine on the back. Whether this could all be constructed from, e.g. canoe paddles (rotor), rope (wiring) and a chainsaw (engine) is uncertain. But with this paraglider and backpack, you would be very mobile and could stash it away somewhere, instead of leaving it out in the open. In the mods you could also lock vehicles (I found tons of autogyros there, but usually locked), which I don't think will be a standalone feature.
