  1. I've had food poisoning in Dayz and can confirm that it will wear off if you manage to keep yourself hydrated and energized. Do you have any idea how you might have poisoned yourself? Did you drink any cleaning alcohol or something of the kind? I can't really understand why something would get you killed that fast, but generally it is a good idea to keep moving. If your character tells you he is tired, make a fire and settle down for a little while. Fires generally seem to help with a lot of issues (like a slight shake when you aren't sick). As you move about you burn calories and even though you may become thirsty, you can at least drink again soon without getting stuffed. I usually get energized and hydrated first and then it is really easy to keep health up. It takes a while after getting yourself energised and hydrated, before it will say healing. That's another good reason to move about and get balanced. The screen may stay black and white for a while, but start turning color back rapidly at somepoint. What puzzles me is that you got no other indicators of your sickness. The "bowel moving" is still two stages away from "I have to throw up", which is truly a low point I passed and thought I'd be dead soon. But just eating, drinking and moving around slow paced made things better. You were either really close to that point where the health turned again, or you didn't receive all the messages about your health status. It took for me about an hour to get myself back to full health after the puking.

Making The CR-527 A More Viable Rifle

This pic in the post shows the CR rifle with hunting scope, as it will appear in 0.56. I agree about the mags, though this will have a better range (scoped) and different abilities (zoom) than the SKS. So the SKS stays more on the assault rifle side, wheras the CR 527 leans to be a sniper rifle. It's probably something I'd keep at camp until I get it fully assembled. And even then I would probably not take it out every day. You might argue that that's why the mags are so rare, however it's truly just an inconvenience. So often I passed the 527, simply because I knew I'd hardly find a mag. It's like wasting a good gun and good model right now. http://www.dayztv.com/pic/dayz-new-hunting-scope-w-i-p-preview-dayz-standalone/

Can Someone Explain What This Means?

But the whole town was neglected because of the camp. That was the main point I tried to make. It's a nice little town now. But somehow that whole area still feels weird to me, too. I just don't think a camp there would cut it. Somewhere was suggested to expand Stary and Novy to make a new, bigger town there. I think that could stretch out things enough to make space for a camp and a firestation and whatnot. >>EDIT: Okay, I just saw on updates that the military tents there are coming back!<<

Can Someone Explain What This Means?

I think they were removed, because it was too easy and often that site got camped. And people never cared much to search the town itself, because of the traffic there. It's usually smart to put these bases away from the city, to move these hotspots a bit apart from each other. It was a nice place in some of the mods, because there were NPC traders, which had a godzone around them. So you could actually chat with people without any fear. I see how these godzones are gimmicky, but it was nice to have these places sometimes. I think there needs to be some military presence in the Northeast/the Berenzino area. Stary Sobor is soclose to 2 other (real) miltary camps, I think it should stay as it is.Plus there are two chopper crashes near it, which still give it some interest.

    Post Your Gear So Far

I seem to hold on to this M4 forever. Just painted its parts green. Found 3 CR75 and amazingly also 3 mags! Man. Dirrly the P1 looks sweet with a silencer! I almost didn't recognize it! It's probably not right that the silencer is halfway down the barrel, but loots cool!

    Epic land mine revenge! :D

I made sure to only take one pristine mine I found. From what I heard they only explode at activation when they are damaged or worn. Not confirmed, as I have still a shtload of respects towards mines. Another fun idea for a situation like yours would be to place two fireplaces in front of the door and light them. I think you're not able to walk over them, thus stuck on the stairs :) The problem is you need 2 people with fireplaces and the guy inside can't know you are there. I love to put some creative mayhem at use in Dayz. Just doesn't happen enough. Fireplaces are excellent truckstoppers that much I know.

    Please, stop building villages everywhere

I think it's awesome they are building new places! When the central loot economy was partly working we already saw it's more fun to move around. Not saying I don't move now, but I usually have a clear target. I kinda liked the strolling around from before. Plus the new villages are purpose build for Dayz wheras the southern cities are just slightly modified Arma II sites. It's always gonna be like this, some parts feel like they are getting too much attention, but in the end it will all come together. At least to some extent. We probably won't all get exactly the game we expected, but what other games do that? Dayz is just a cool game that lives from the map. I spend a lot of time in the north when I still had reason to. Now I lunge around between camp and loot spots. I don't take time to smell the roses ^^

    Epic land mine revenge! :D

I love axebattles :)! Whish they'd improve the sounds though, instead of that "plunk" maybe something meatier when you hit or get hit. That guy was probabyl just pissed because he didn't find anything. With that much loot around you tend to think there must have been something good. Awesome to see more mine action, I really dig it! I have one mine, and I'm thinking about setting it up as truck trap in Cherno. With two fireplaces on one side of the road, so the driver changes lanes. And then a mine on the other. RIP truck. ...I just don't know if it's worth the patience waiting for a truck ;) Goodjob man, I'm enjoying your videos a lot!

Hello, please I need some advice.

I think the Dayz standalone is the better choiceeven though it requires more patience than the mods. The mods are really cool, but I've played the standalone almost equally fanatically by now. You can hunt, craft, farm, fish - all of which you cannot do the same way in the mods. Since the vehicles' been added I get around the map some more and it is bigger than the original, old map and the new additions are mostly very good. There is also a constant feed of new items being introduced with almost every update. And we have tents and military tents to store our gear. That's all the awesome stuff. However, the updates can be quite discouraging as items may not ever spawn or you get an abundance of one thing but lack of others. It's not always easy to keep on wanting to play, but the game is very playable now and a fix for the loot problems is probably in the next patch or two. Despite the occasional headaches it gives me, Dayz is still an exceptional game and one you'd want to join during its development rather than just replay as a mod. It isn't the same and the standalone can and will only get better over time. I hope more players will enjoy the game, so we can have interaction and stuff happening. That's really all it needs now: some stable economy and lots of life on the servers.
  10. Funny the Benny Hill Theme always comes to mind. I used it in an old Dayz video, too! What creeps me out about the zombies is when they suddenly come from behind and without a whistle. I literally jumped off the chair a couple of times. And I'm not the guy to blush easy, they just always happen to come at me at impossible moments. So far I have the simple strategy of running straight, until I see the zombie react, then go prone and run by and then into full sprint again. It seems to me they have a bit different attention radius', because some of them I can sneak by at 10-15 meters (with their backs turned and with cover near). Others I can't seem not to interest, even from 30 meters away. They will at least come closer when I'm around, sometimes annoying to have to go around, but all part of the game. I guess there are three ways to deal with them: - round them up and lock them in - shoot them - evade them I'm mostly into evading zeds, as I like to have them around as indicators for other players. If there are still zombies around, nobody has been there yet. If I have to deal with just one, I lock him up. I do like shooting them though and do whenever it's safe. I get hit far less now than in the beginning, which shows we already adapted to the new zeds. They are much cooler than the old zeds and the ways they chase you through cities is sometimes amazing. I think somehow I take a lot less damage than a few weeks ago, I must have been hit 40 times or more with this character. I think in time we will get ourselves into bad situations with zombies, just by taking the wrong turn, making the wrong decision. They already showed WIP anims for the crawling zombie. There used to be a juming animation with the slashing arms (the helicopter ^^), but I haven't seen that in a long time. The zombies just running after us like dogs is a bit dumb. They should be swarming from all directions and harder to evade. There are some villages in the north where I've been in quite some trouble like this. But that's also because the architecture there favored them coming from all sides. If that happens in a city you just run through three buildings and have enough time to lock yourself in somewhere. They are a thread, but they could be more of a challenge. Either of the three methods will work and have it's advantages/disadvantages. I think once we have stamina it will be really annoying at first, but then is when the slow and concealed approach will still work and the others maybe work slightly less well than now.
  11. I'm about to try out the ghillie for the first time. I only made gunwrap and hood and sprayed them, so far. I was gonna go for a ghillie top and brown hunter pants, and I think I still will. I think there will be enough storage just from my vest, pants and jacket. The only advantage of a full suit would be If I meet someone and decide he's unfriendly, I can take his backpack, break down the suit and travel back to camp or make a new one. You can't break down the other ghillie pieces, or can you?

    do tents still dissapear?

My one tent on two different servers was still there. However an AKM (I was carrying in hands) glitched away when I put it on the ground. Everything else is still there and I had no problems dropping other weapons. Everything seems persistent.

I found all the missing loot..

The thing I wonder about is why it is so complicated. A simple truth is that a good system is as complicated as it needs to be. We have 2 kinds of loot: server and player. Server loot will stay indefnitely or until picked up, at which time it becomes player loot. When the player drops is again, there is a timer on the loot (defined by its type) and if nobody else picks up the loot before the timer runs out, it will be gone and respawn elsewhere; or at least something of the same loot class will respawn. -> that isn't happening. We see far more useless stuff respawn over and over, I guess because some internal number was reached saying: no more magazines can spawn! => this is bad, because the engine cannot currently determine if magazines are in use or stored away in a tent; at least that is how I explain partly the lack of certain items; may be wrong about it. It could be done like this: when the player is in an area, the engine should ping the loot in the area. And delete most duplicates in a 200 m radius of the player. In cities this radius could be a lot smaller, depending on the size of the area, it could be bigger. -> this would reduce the amount of same items and would significantly reduce the amount of items spawned => the ping would most likely just encompass a dozen to maybe 40 items at a time. Most duplicates would be deleted. Player dropped loot would still have a timer, much like it is now. I find it more concerning that the engine spams the same loot in the same places over and over, without recognizing there already are hundreds of the same items in that place. If it would ping for the loot even just in the area, it could delete most of the duplicates itself and spawn in some useful items next (it would just cycle spawn/item groups and spawn something else in the next spawnwave. This could even be randomized, so you never know what spawns next); it could not spawn the same item again that was removed in the last flush. The players wouldn't notice. They would just see the loot they come across and if two players "ping" each other there wouldn't be a problem as the engine would only remove the top one or two items that are duplicated the most. I think the question would just be if the clientside can actually be made to "give orders" to the serverside in terms of loot spawning. I'm a bit too tired to think about this, and luckily it isn't my problem, I just have to play the game. However, I do wonder sometimes why it is so hard to make the loot distribution work. Is it because the server has to deal with the loot, in order to prevent any kind of hacking? It just seems other games, some of them MMOs, manage to have randoms loot spawn over time without piling up huge heaps.

    New favorite activity: tent hunting

That's a good question. I actually don't know if mines are perstistent now, I suppose they aren't. Because then they would be useful ;) Just have to try it out again. Don't have much of a camp to do that now. Anyway, every couple of weeks this gets wiped anyway, so benji-milo is right about that. Our last two camps vanished completely in the last patch - even though they were supposed to stay. Coupld of days later everything on that server stayed persistant. Now that server is down forgood. Trying to trust two new servers now, hope tomorrow nothing gets lost in the update! Also, nice you didn't take the tents, though you should have set up their own mines in their camp. I would do sooo much damage, just because I'd know these are the people who are to blame that I can't find any military tents or magazines ^^

    Trading Post

I think he means that the miltary tent has 250 slots but you can only see the first 90, because you cannot scroll down the tent's inventory. In that regard the military tent is barely bigger then the camping tents. I also find it hilarious that the actual tent model for the bagged militent is smaller than that of the small civilian tent. Yet you can only carry it as a backpack, whereas you can carry the smaller (but bigger) tent in your hands... >>TRADEPOST<< I'm looking to trade mags for an Amphibia against other mags. I have an AKM and AK74 mag I would trade for two amphibia mags. (1+1 for 2) I have a bag of food, gas cooker + medium cartridge and Makarov + 3 mags (all for 2) I have an FNX magazine and 120-150 shots of 45cal ammo (1 FNX mag + 120 ammo for 2) That's about all I can think of, if you need something else and wanna trade your 2 Amphibia mags, gimme a shout and we'll see if I have it.

I found all the missing loot..

Rise of the lootmachines. Seriously - they look sorta freaky, each like a small work of art. I've never seen stuff grouped together like that. It's really sad this loot spawning mechanic. How can it not decide that there are already a million things in the vicinity and yet spawn another batch? Dayz mods had a stupid loot system, because it was easy to cheat it without actually cheating (just carry stuff outside and walk away and back = respawn). But it still worked better than anything I have seen in the SA. I've never seens heaps of anything like that in the mods. And even if you cleaned out a place in the mods you would have no guarantee that something decent would respawn and it didn't always respawn when you wanted it to. Also, there were always players to deal with too, if you cleaned out high yield places. Granted, the central loot economy will be better - if it ever works. Secondly to it however, the loot system from any of the mods worked better than this pile-throwing monster of madness we deal with now.

    New favorite activity: tent hunting

These guys have beartraps and mines. Makes me wonder why they didn't at least secure the camp with it. I mean, of course they would have to relocate, but at least they make it a bit harder to get to their camp. I think the problem with mines is that you can impossibly guess what radius will trigger them. So most people don't use them without having that experience. I also only take pristine mines, which are quite hard to come by. even now. What else did you do after this? Did you take any tents or just gear. The last camp I build in the north was completely raided. Only binoculars and the fireplace remained :( But it was pretty obvious and not planned for eternity anyways. I just miss the military tent. I can never find them in the barracks and only thanks to the central loot economy thing I actually found 2. All long gone, of course. Moving on :)

    switching firing modes?

Lol, I've been carrying an M4 for ages unaware that the fire selection mode works on that one! I just assumed it wouldn't work yet in general. Gonna try it out tomorrow, thanks a lot. Always have been a fan of the single shot, even on auto rifles. There is not often a reason to use automatic with PvP, I'd say that is more useful for zombie hordes or when you need cover fire.

    Post Your Gear So Far

Awww Odin Lowe, I so want an AUG, but on the other hand, I've been carrying my M4 for an eternity now and it's damn good. Right now, this is what I log off with for maintenance. Most of this gear I've been carrying around for weeks now, i.e. I store it at camp most of the time; to go looting again ;)
  20. Haven't seen a single one of those lately. In the last patch they used to spawn like crazy on the porch of that low square building. Now only civilian loot spawns there. I used to find more magazines and scopes inside the barracks. I think they were there originally, but they never properly respawned. Only Makarov mags seem to respawn plenty, but that's no news. Probably the best thing to carry is a shotgun right now. You never run out of ammo and there are always some shells lying around. I just collect ammo for my M4, and I use the pistol in the meantime. I found 2 CR75 since the last patch, one just today. And I have three mags in total, but I've been carrying them for weeks. We were lucky enough to bring some mags over from the last patch. Without those I'd probably be completely out of anything to shoot with, except a shottie.
  21. S3V3N

    How was your Day(Z)?

I went to Balota airfield and someone had conveniently packed me a drybag there. It included a CR75 and mostly food. I didn't have a backpack on, because I was hoping to find one, but this was even better; I even have 2 mags for it at camp. And surprisingly it had one mag, too. It took me all the way up to Vybor though to find a supressor for it, but it was a good journey. I guess someone packed this bag with the best stuff they found but couldn't/wouldn't carry, Thx to the donator!
  22. S3V3N

    What was that?

Admit it! You drank a bottle of cleaning alcohol before this happened.
  23. S3V3N

    How was your Day(Z)?

Since everybody just does that to keep/retrieve their gear nowadays the devs might as well bring back the graves from the mods. It may not make a lot of sense to find a grave in the middle of the road, but it still was a good mechanic. Either you got your loot back or someone else had a happy day. And they were great lures for PvP, but still fun. I'm having a bit of dull days. Either I find no loot at all or massive spamming of it. Of course not much useful stuff. Not that much to do now either. Looking for a pistol again, cause I'm running low on my main. Travelling north, probably to the airfield. A truck would help but the only one I found wouldn't refuel after restarts. Boots are worn, but spirit is high. Got to get myself a CR75 again...
  24. I remember that post of the Epi-pen and the date on it. I think this was on oversight at most, as it wouldn't make sense to have the game play in 2014 and have only a post communist infrastructure + technology. But then again, who knows what's to come? Like I said, I'd totally dig it if Dayz played in the present day. We could have some interesting additions + fun places that look a bit different. But that would mean more urban development all over the map. Hell, I'd probably remodel old Cherno and Elektro completely if it was possible. That would seem a bit over-the-top at this time. However, something like new commercial centers with specialised shops (clothes, hunting, shopping, bowling, restaurants, parking lots...) would totally be possible and could be placed at any suitable area near a city. Since these areas look generic in real life too, it could be more or less the same model used all over the map. Also, sorry I didn't see the topic discussed before. I did a forum search on time period and such but didn't come up with results.
  25. All the info I can find is that Dayz is set in a post-communist state. So, this would put us in the 1990's. However, how far into "today" does the game reach? Are we talking about a period of e.g. 20 years (1990-2010), or are we looking at a point in time, e.g. the year 1991? One reason I ask is, because this could potentially change the infrastructure and look of some places; also concerning the technology and vehicles. From the props ingame so far, we can guess that we are dealing with a point in time, as all radios, tv sets and computers seem to still be designs from Communist production. The same goes for the cars to come and vehicles in general. At the same time we have billboards like the "Welcome to Sahrani", which refers to the first Arma island. So there is some international tourism going on (which currently seems limited to hiking and staying in holiday villages on the map). I think if we are talking about a point in time in the mid 90's , we should see more expansion and probably entire areas under construction, instead of isolated building sites. There would be new industrial boom areas, hotels build and generally big changes to the environment and existing infrastructure. So, obvioulsly that's not the point, so I guess we are dealing with a point in time, right after the revolutions, i.e. ~ 1990. I think this limits the game somewhat, and I understand this has a purpose, in terms of content that need be created. If you have to cover a range of 20 years, there's obviously going to be a fair bit more diversity than at any particular point in time at the beginning of that timeline. It's a pity though, because I think this extra-infrastructure could be very interesting. It would bring in some western looking, recognizable structures (like shopping and recreational/mall areas outside of the cities). It would put some modern structures close to the old buildings and environments, which could be interesting contrast. There would be foreign embassies, e.g. freshly build or rennovated, meant to build relations with the young state. It would just add some diversity to environment and obviously to loot placement. It makes sense that this is a point in time in the way that only right after such a catastrophe you would actually be able to find resources in the way we do ingame. 20 years into the future, this would all look pretty differently. However, I would like to see a map version some day (perhaps through mods/workshop) where the virus broke out 24 years later, in a much more developed Chernarus state, which has an upgraded infrastructure.
