Finnish rifles incoming.

All that glass and debris in the towns on the roads would be terrifying.
-
I play on first person only, so I can't stand the mountain packs blocking my vision to the rear. Hunter packs man.
-
Alternatively it'd be neat for carrion birds to fly above a corpse after a little bit. You see some birds circling in the distance and you know something's dead over there.
-
I don't have to worry about it. My buddies and I were killed by an invisible guy in a police station yesterday.
-
In another way you have it as an unintended compromise for a lack of sight switching. Scenario 1: I'm using the PSO mounted on my AKM. This does not obstruct the irons as it's side mounted. I can use the optics normally, or in small urban fights I can use the irons without an issue. Scenario 2: I'm using the ACOG mounted on my M4. This one does obstruct the irons but has backups ontop as it's not the version with the fiber-optic cable ontop. This is not an issue in Arma2 and Arma3. Unlike in those games, in DayZ there is no button for this and you must remove your optics to use your irons again.

I say it'd be a terrible idea because nobody actually shoots like that except for the people who say Allah guides their bullets.

Are grenades really a good item to have in game at this point?
rybec replied to huf757's topic in General Discussion
I haven't found a grenade that works yet, and all have been pristine or worn. -
I don't believe a single person hasn't mentioned that there is no hip-firing in Arma or DayZ. Your rifle is shouldered, you're just not using your sights. Of course it's fairly easy to shoot at short ranges without using your sights, you have a very good idea of where you're aiming.
-
You can also use a watch as a makeshift compass. I enjoyed collecting watches or matches in the mod.
-
You're sure going to need a lot of versatility when you're sitting in the bush outside of an airfield or barracks waiting for people.
-
I don't like that idea. They're covers, not actual suits. Maybe taking up the backpack slot would be a better tradeoff. You want to keep a low profile? You have to travel light. Then again, that's changing things for 'balance'.

A real survivor, doing what a lot of us are simulating doing. But the bandits got him

There was a family that lived in the woods for quite a few years and didn't know World War 2 or the Cold war even happened. -
I don't like the idea of a craftable ghillie for the sole reason that half the people you'll run into will be using one. That'd be pretty goofy.
-
I have a problem with that one. Your standard loadout in ACE requires you to not sprint the whole time or your guy will stumble and pass out, God help you if you are an ammo bearer for a guy with a 240. One match with those guys we dismounted from a 113 and ran into woods at night, found a squad of guys, fought, retreated and I was the AT rifleman with a couple belts for the 249 guy. I passed out and nobody noticed leaving me behind, two minutes later I woke up and nobody was around. I eventually made my way back to the rally where we dismounted and found everyone dead and our APC destroyed. They called it at that point saying we were combat ineffective. Was spooky going through the woods on my own wondering where everyone was while there were still ~50 people on the opposing team looking for me and other survivors to mop up. I could talk ACE stories for a very very long time.
-
Taking a bunch of features from ACE would be beneficial. Weapon resting on corners and windowsills would be very welcome to the game for example.

If you've settled for less than 60, you'd be blown away at how different it feels. You really can't tell the difference through a youtube video, but the difference between 30 and 60 is absolutely huge.
-
Your buddies need to listen better, I giggled when the guy you shot said you were bad that you couldn't hit him as he booked it, and I had forgotten how much peeking around the logs and trees sure takes the tension out of the fights.
-
I had beef ravioli for lunch today. This is a different one. EDIT: Forgot my damned picture.

What new Rifles would you guys like to see?
rybec replied to Forrelist's topic in General Discussion
If we're going to be like that we could say an M24/M40/any bolt action rifle is a 91/30, X assault rifle is either an AKM or M4, and magazine fed handguns are the CZ75 and FNX. That said, I welcome any form of variety in the game that's added. -
My experiences with ACE in A2 were from missions where you'd have about 120 people on the server, Airborne Blufor and Mechanized Opfor and 20 minutes of mission planning from our CO leading to me seeing "YOU ARE DEAD" while riding in a BTR when a cobra TOWd the thing. Other fun experiences were being a part of a sniper team being coached by some Brit sniper school instructor when the server was packed again. That was a good one.

Do you think the LRS will be removed from Mosin when...
rybec replied to TheWizard14's topic in General Discussion
You silly knucklehead. -
Player bodies adds a nice chunk of 'immersion' to the game. One of the first times I went to the Zelenogorsk barracks with my friends we got there and there were six bodies just laying there. We assume it was two groups that got in a firefight and nobody lived. Every corpse had their weapons, clothes, food, magazines... It was a bizarre thing to walk into, and pretty spooky since we searched the entire area for at least one person left and found nobody. You don't even have the chance of finding that now.

I work in a shop and use taps occasionally. They are fragile and I'm sure anyone who picks one up without knowing about backing off and such would snap one right away or drill the wrong size hole without a chart. -
I'm going to stand by my original plan and blap someone's dog then run off. I really miss bodies staying in the world though, with the whole pack of flies and such.
