are people trying to make the SA to friendly?
[email protected] replied to dgeesio's topic in General Discussion
To KOS'ers, it's a big part of their plot. Mutual understanding. And that's why you pick your targets. And again... That's roleplaying, not all of us are into that. And military weapons should not be rare, at least AK-74's. PKR's etc.? Yes. There's a difference between making higher-end guns being rare, and not being added, which is what most people with your mindset seem to propose. -
Solving Both End-Game/Meta-Game and KoS Problems At Once

Killing has no correlation with being a mil-sim. It seems like you tend to overuse this word he second a lot of shooting or guns get mentioned. There already is incentive to group up. A lot of the better organized KOS'ers do it. Those complaining about not being able to roleplay and not finding a group seem to forget this is still a game on PC, and that a clan or similar group + TS is the way to go. They want to reliably be able to get a group whenever they jump servers, which is just plain unrealistic. Bandits are simply better organized and are usually better at shooters. -
Ultra realism Vs Balanced game design

No, DayZ is supposed to be hard. Maybe they should make "softcore" servers instead. So at least the softies know they are the weird ones, not us for liking it the normal "hard" way. Not true at all. The DMR was better than the AS50, yet it never got removed. -

Neither is there a game where you can organize your group to lock down a city/road, gun out the driver/inhabitants, take their gear, and use it to create a stash in the woods in a huge map. I want to gear up on other peoples expenses, you don't, I deal with you, you deal with me. That's how a community works. "Claiming" DayZ for yourself and your roleplayer friends won't work. I loved playing the mod as much as anyone else who played from summer 2012 until SA got released, and I loved it more that almost any other game I played before it. There's not even one other game that allows shooting weapons that plays even remotely the same, so stop saying people need to go play BF or COD or some other game people like you keep stereotyping us with. And it's not just the joy of shooting other players. It's the joy of organizing my clan, seeing other people, deciding what we're gonna do (if they're freshspawn or have no loot we want, nor are a possible threat, we don't kill them), ambushing roads with weapons we amassed especially for that situation, killing them, getting their car, loot, etc., figuring out who it was, stashing our loot in a tent. I especially loved the hoarding aspect. Stop trying to make us look like Hurrr durr we shootz coz IQ is below 90!!1! Some people indeed like that series a tad bit too much. I find it retarded, roleplaying like that. "Hey who are you, Identify yourself! You're not getting into our town with that gun!" Me: "It's effin Elektro you retard -.- *bang*." I made him pissed, he made me pissed. It's so hard to get along in the same community when you differ that much. It reminds me of playing house, and I find it just as retarded. About as crazy as those Star Wars freaks who analyze the height of storm trooper actors to decide what scene is canon... (Star Wars is amazing, but really guys?). I have a clan, had it for 5 years now, we obviously use Teamspeak, and there is no reason why we wouldn't group up in game. We don't have a reason to interact with randoms, as our group is already big enough. Actually, it's so big that if we don't kill other people for their gear, we would be out of food in no time. (This was in the mod, btw) -
Ultra realism Vs Balanced game design
[email protected] replied to kermo50's topic in General Discussion
Realism, which means incredibly hard gameplay with features which heavily depend on real-life knowledge. Deep real-life knowledge. Not something someone can pick up and be at least mediocre at after a week or so, like BF. Also means military weapons a la DMR, and no the Walking Dead clone. DayZ should make it's own path. Edit: This. Screw casuals for just THIS ONCE please! It's not like they've got millions of games and we hardly got even a handfull the past 5 years. Oh wait... It is. -
Mosin M91/30, SKS. I demand the SVT40
[email protected] replied to Leo Balzac's topic in General Discussion
Caliber isn't an issue, it's the fact the Mosin ammo is rimmed. Does that actually matter on a belt-fed gun? -
Protector cases would be cool, but I want typos of storage that will allow me to fit in a weapon or 5 at least.

I'd love me an MG42. Would be compatible with the Mosin ammo, too. -

I wish we'd have to eat/drink 3 times less than we do now, but have food and water actually be 5 times more rare. -

It's the same the other way around as well. Walking Dead "friendlies in Cherno?" roleplayers protesting every time someone proposes to add a battle rifle or anything that isn't a gun made before 1860 is pissing in our cereal, too. Stupid propositions like safezones and even planetary rotation for making sniping harder, whilst bullet travel time and accuracy already are quite inaccurate and unrealistic already. Plus, a lot of people are saying there need to be more incentives to group up, but guess who've already got a group? Most bandits. Friendlies should simply put more effort in getting organized BEFORE they rush into the game. Like getting a clan or at least organize a group with TS using the forums or something. We should meet somewhere in the middle, but no one is giving in even a cm. -

The Never Ending Cycle...
[email protected] replied to assassinofkings151's topic in General Discussion
I do not like the idea of skill trees. It breaks the ability for a player to do what he feels like doing, as long as he has the IRL knowledge to do so. Which is how it should be. Want to fix that engine on the car? Better read a manual on basic car maintenance. I tend to take what most players from other games propose with a pinch of salt, because most other games tend to be catered to casual "pick up and play" mentality, which is the opposite of what DayZ is about. They tend to propose changes which make the game more simple, whilst it should actually be much, much more complex. All we can do is make our voices heard, so when someone goes around proposing safezones or AI (extreme examples), we all respond with a big, fat no, just to make sure a developer browsing the forums sees the topic, and no one disagreeing with it, and as such making them think that's what we want. -

Roleplayers and the Walking Cliche-fanclub trying to force role-playing as THE way to go, and anything that might obstruct roleplaying and their imaginary boundaries should be banished. Like I said a thousand times by now, I don't want 10 shotguns, a couple of bolt action rifles and 10 type of 9mm pistols to be 99% of the weapons in DayZ. So boring... Though ammo should indeed be more rare, people forget that once AK-74's and 47's get added, we'll see 5 spawns of 3 ammo types at NWAF, instead of 15 spawns of m4 ammo. -
How to make the map more engaging.
[email protected] replied to MR DELICIOUS's topic in General Discussion
I don't mind some of this, but if you'd put even half of the stuff in, it'd feel unrealistic and overcrowded. Chernarus is a small, lowly populated ex-soviet state, not California. Edit: Turn the water surfaces into objects. Have them spawn underneath the map (except for the real lakes), and make them rise as it rains. -
This http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?93262-Bullet-velocity-inaccurate TL DR: Bullet properties like accuracy and velocity depend on the magazine you're using, instead of the barrel length, etc.. Is this still the case in DayZ SA?

Solving Both End-Game/Meta-Game and KoS Problems At Once
[email protected] replied to Pendulum Effect's topic in General Discussion
Additions like highly modifiable vehicles and bases should fix the no-endgame problem, and somewhat reduce KOS. Of course there will still be a lot of KOS, but that's fine with me. I don't agree with supply drops for multiple reasons. 1) It's AI 2) It makes no sense some mysterious faction, or even a government would randomly drop valuable and limited supplies to a bunch of random survivors. I don't mind the random heli-crashes, though. Actually, I love them. I agree on the islands, though I do not agree with the Left for Dead-ish thing that zombies should spawn like it's Dead Island on steroids. Yes, it would be challenging, and maybe fun, if it wasn't DayZ. Too arcade-ish. I made a small post on Reddit about islands a long time ago. I'll link it here. Also, at the time I wrote that, Utes was actually part of the map. If you check out the leaked 03/2013 alpha, you can check it out. -
It's always best to be a bit above the required wattage, and leave a bit of headroom for possible future upgrades. And CIV5, Supreme Commander. If you have multiple applications running at the same time it's nice. Like my MC server I've got locked to Core 6 and 7 atm. Look, I stated it was just trying to get some examples out there to get the discussion started, hoping others would perfectionalise the list. So yes, an i5 will spare him $120, thanks for contributing. It's a valid alternative. I have personally have gotten a lot of use out of my extra threads so far, so I'll stay by my point. Choice is his. He seems to have left the topic, anyway. =l

KOS'ing doesn't make you a bad community member. If I'd meet someone from the forums IRL, I'd probably pay for a drink, yet I KOS. I don't go after people that are not a threat, though.

In the mod it was fine being able to spawn at Balota, and I'd prefer it that way IF Balota wasn't a huge ass militiry base like it is now. So yeah, once they kick out the barracks and reduce the barracks at Bor and Zeleno, it's just wrong. It's nice what they did with the map, but I have no idea what they were thinking when they thought putting 3 barracks at Balota, 3 at Bor, and two at Zelenogorsk was a good idea. Much rather have one barrack and the prison building at Green Mountain, and a lot of military vehicle wrecks around the place. Put back the tents in Cherno, etc.. You know, lots of small spawns, instead of a concentration of 8 barracks within a couple of kilometers, right at the spawn. And I'm not even talking about any other military buildings which are there now. But if it were only those I'd be fine with it.

I got two SSD's in raid 0. Overkill, and something is bottlenecking it. Should get about 1.4 GB/sec, only getting 900MB. but I love it. Reason was that getting two 128GB drives was cheaper than one 256GB. And considering two 128GB's in RAID 0 should give twice the speed at the cost of about 15GB, the deal was quickly sealed.
-
He's right though. Getting around should take up a lot of time. It's not a game for casuals.
-
What makes you think we won't be getting any new weapons? SKS will probably be released this month. Probably the double-barreled shotty, too.
-
Is there a place where I can look up sales numbers of the Arma titles and DayZ? I've seen several websites quote numbers, but I really wonder how they get them in the first place. Not that I doubt them or anything, though.
-
Or has it stopped already? I'd put a question like this on Reddit, but it's down.
