Add 7.62 x 39mm Rounds to Residential Areas

I agree that it is bit weird for some weapons to spawn in some locations while those locations never spawn the ammo for the gun and vice versa. For example the FNX mags, they still spawn in the firestations but since the addition of helicrash sites I haven't seen any FNXs spawning anywhere else than the helicrash sites. Also the amount of SKS rifles in general is way too many. It is the only gun that you know you are going to find if you know where to look. For example, every BMP and BDRM wreck spawns atleast one, some times two, of them. And even though 7,62x39 innitially might seem very rare now that they have been removed from res areas, all you need to do is go to the tent base in NWAF and you'll easily find several boxes of that ammo.

Hnnggnnhhh! You can't attach the PSO-1 to the AK74... well I guess I'll have to roll yet another month (or until they roll out next patch) with the AKM.

That is actually the reason for my friends visit in the first place, we had a small game night. 1000 pts, IG vs Space Marines. As you can propably see, I play with Imperial Guard, The hammer of the Emperor!

Apparently those protector cases spawn in super markets, but it was black. Fortunately there was yellow spray paint too. The loot inside was also found in the same market spawn. The shirt propably spawned in dayz webstore.

True friends give each other loot. ;)
  7. Hmm... I never noticed this, very interesting. I would definetly like to see different kind of "civilian sniper rifles" being implemented, so tha the players could have a choice between weapons they chooce to take. For example, if they'd enable the LRS scope for the CR527, then it would be a valid option for as a sniper rifle with its own pros and cons. Mosin would be more effective because of the larger caliber, but on the other hand it's longer thus harder to conseal and the 7.62x51 is slightly less common than the 7,62x39. Which would bring me to the pros of the CR527, since it uses the 7,62x39 it would be more ideal solution as a DMR for a squad if all the other squad members would be using either AKM or SKS. Ofcourse in the current state the ammo isn't such a big problem because you can find it everywhere, but still, a slight advantage over the mosin. Also the CR527 is faster to reload because of its magazine which is fairly common unlike the mosin clip which, from my own experience, seems to be extremely rare. The pros of the Blaze would be the double barrel. On closer ranges this would give you an advantage over the mosin and CR which both are bolt action. And the reloading would also be pretty fast if you have the snaploaders, which are not too hard to find. These are the kind of choices I would like to see in DayZ so that there wouldn't be just "the one gun" to use.
  8. I think they should remove the LRS from mosin, or make it so that you need some sort of mount before you can attach the LRS. But in my oppinion a even more valid choice for the LRS should be the CR527 since to me it looks like that it already has a mount for a scope, as shown in the picture below.

    How about a "Survivalist Perk"

Well he didn't specify that what did he ment with "the longer you survive". For example I remember an old roguelike game called Iter Vehemens Ad Necem (a Violent Road to Death) where the only way to improve your stats was to use those stats. Carrying heavy loads would increase your leg strenght, using heavy weapons (war hammers, battle axes etc.) would improve your hand strenght while using light weapons would increase your dexterity and healing from wounds would increase your health. Usually I have been against all sorts of stats or character points or what ever in DayZ, but on the other hand, without them you'll never get attached to your character, just your gear. Without the need to keep your character alive, no one is never going to surrender or beg for their life if getting mugged or something because it doesn't matter if you live or not, if the bandits take your gear, then you might as well just start from the coast again. So with a system where there would be hidden stats so you could never see them, but you could notice their effects would encourage people to just try to stay alive. This would also make gear hoarding into tents less effective, because if you die, it might take a long time before your character has become as good as it used to be. Maybe some minor stat could improve passively with just time, but for example stamina could improve the more you run, weapon sway would be reduced the more you use a weapons and so on and so on. Any how these are just suggestions from the top of my head...

So what is DayZ, exactly ?

DayZ is the definition of insanity, doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. You spawn at the coast and start running around the map searching and gathering loot for hours and hours until you die. Then you respawn at the coast and start running around the map searching and gathering loot for hours and hours until you die. Then you respawn at the coast and start running around the map searching and gathering loot for hours and hours until you die. Then you respawn at the coast...

    Is item damage OP?

This has bothered me for quite sometime now. I think the damage that items take is way off balance at the moment. I know this isn't a game breaking (GAEM IS BROKENED ROCKT PLZ L2T CODE & FIX DA GAAMZZ HURR DURR!!11!) thing, but it still bothers me. Your gear gets ruined way too easily. Sometimes it feels like that just one hit from a zombie is enough to tear through your vest and jacket and also destroy half the items within them, but the biggest problem is bullets. Yesterday one of my crew managed to confuse me to a zombie and shot me in the back with an AKM (honestly... some of the people I play with... one of these days...) and that one bullet ruined my backpack, vest, jacket, pants and about 90% of the items within these. What I was left with was one protector case, few rounds of ammo, shoes, hat and few bits and pieces of random items. I agree that if you spray&pray someone then his items should definetly take equalent amount of damage, but just one bullet to the back and everything you, your children and your grandchildren have gets obliterated is bit too much. Also I wouldn't consider a jacket, backpack, pants or a vest with one bullet hole in it "ruined". But like I said, this is not a "rokit plz fix da gaem" -thread or anything like that, I just want to know the general oppinion of other DayZ players about this matter and how you would do it better.

    Is item damage OP?

Actually, if you run without a gun in your hand, you can out run the standing zombies, don't know about the crouchy ones though.

    Is item damage OP?

Yeah that is pretty much what I think. This is not that serious issue that it needs to be addressed right now and I would expect them to balance this later on down the development. Just wanted to pour out feelings about this and hear what other people think about it. Back in the mod, same guy was aiming at my head while I was afk and he mixed up the left and right mouse button (I not f'ng kidding here!), and instead of lowering his aim, he shot me at point blank range. Mad skills. I forgot to mention that I didn't even start bleeding because of it, but anyway, I know and understand this, but I still think that not everything you have is going to get ruined because of one gun shot. Also how do you explain that my pants also got ruined when I got shot? Unless I went into a shock and s**t in my pants, which still wouldn't explane how the items in the pockets got ruined. You wouldn't throw away your mobile phone just because you pooped into your pants, right? This topic is about the item damage in general, may it be zombies, bullets or fall damage, which by the way ruins your pants and shoes for some odd reason... But yeah the zombie damage is also bit crazy because sometimes they do no damage to your gear but then on other times one hit is all it takes to ruin your day.
  14. Even though this works fine too, I would like it if the ingame map would also have these names.

Well that is how I interpreted what eugenharton said. Since they are "redoing the tech" they disabled the old system.

What are the default settings for DayZ?

You are welcome and yeah you can change some settings from the config files itself. I have customized my graphics settings through them to give me "the most bang for the buck" since there are few settings you want to keep as high as possible for gameplay reasons, like scene complexity. The higher this is the more FPS it eats away, but setting it too low makes it so that you cannot see inside buildings through windows because it doesn't render buildings propely from a distance. If you want, I can copy paste some values in here or send them as a PM.

    m4/5.56 nato

Have you tried it yourself or have you deducted this from real life? What I would assume at this point is that they will most likely just copy+paste the values from the M4 to the 101, atleast that is what they did with the pistols 'cause apparently FNX, CR75 and M1911 (both of them) have exactly the same damage, spread etc.

    guns

Gear takes damage from bullets, zombie punches and melee hits so if you are taking down players for their stuff, it is not really a good idea to just unload on them. Also, from my personal experience, the SKS seems to be the easiest gun to find and it isn't too bad at all. Semi-automatic, decently accurate, ammo is pretty common and it doesn't require a magazine even though having couple of them clips can make reloading a little bit faster. If you find an AKM, I wouldn't pick it up unless you have atleast one mag for it because the gun is actually easier to find than the magazines. Also I wouldn't go on fighting players with just one bullet chambered in it.

    m4/5.56 nato

I think you'll soon get your ammo for the M4 since they already have (in experimental) the AK-101 which fires 5.56 NATO. Also they have not removed the M4 from the game but since it (and its attachments) only spawns at helicrash sites which are currently disabled for some reason, may it be intentional or a bug I do not know, there are none to be found. EDIT: Disabling helicrash sites is intentional.

    lose the flashlight

Haven't played the exp so I was not aware of this, but I can see the problem with this. Anyway, this is actually pretty funny because people used to whine about the nights being too dark and now that they have made them brighter people are complaining that now they are too bright. This makes me think that there is actually no problem with the game but the users instead since no matter what the devs will do/fix/add they'll always get s**t from the users. I can't wait to see what kind of c**p people will give them when the vehicles will finally get implemented. Ofcourse this sort of behaviour is to be expected with anything that has large number of people involved in it. No matter what you do, you can never please everybody. And just to make sure, I am not a brown noser. Personally I think there are more than few things that should have been fixed/added already, but I am just pointing out the irony of this community.

What are the default settings for DayZ?

You could try deleting the config files which are located in Documents folder. The next time you start the game it will not be able to find these config files and will automaticly create new default ones. Ofcourse, remember to make backups of the old files before deleting them because you can never be too careful.

    What is Persistent Storage ?

From personal experience in DayZ Mod, I don't see getting fully kitted from your camp after death as such big of a problem since you can't repeat it indefinitely. Sooner or later your camp will be discovered, atleast that's what happened in the mod and mostly because the tents were pretty big and didn't blend so well into the background. All camps were pretty much temporary and for a day or two you didn't have to crawl through the whole of Cherno just to get few of your favorite things. Ofcourse I'll have to see how "the tents" are implemented in the standalone before I can make up my mind about them. Anyway, I also though about the "denying the cache to the former owner" and I know it's just an example off the top of your head, but this function could be bypassed pretty easily if you have friends. They'd simply take the stuff you want out of the tent and give them to you. But if the devs can figure out a proper way to make you lose your stashed items upon death, I'd be just as okey with that as I would be with the old system from the mod. EDIT: Fixed a ton of typos

    What is Persistent Storage ?

In the mod if you died you would lose your tent, after 48 hours though. Also if you setup a tent and died, you lost the ability to dismantel the tent. Anyway, in my oppinion it would be really silly if all your caches would just despawn right after you die. For example, I follow some guy to his hidden stash and while he is fiddling with his inventory, I shoot him in the back and then *poof* his tent is gone, no loot for me. Ofcourse I don't know what you had in mind when you said that the cache should be lost to you if you die and I understand why you would want the caches to dissappear after death since it would prevent people from simply running to their hidden base from the spawn and immidietly be geared to the teeth. And back in the mod loot hoarding (and vehcile hoarding) was not that big of an issue since there were people out there actively looking for camps and I'd say most camps were found within a day or two. And nothing was more rewarding than finding someones camp site, taking all the good stuff and then rolling over their tents with their UAZ. Also, has it been confirmed that "persistent items" actually mean tents/crates/something similiar? What would be really great if it actually meant all the items in the game. Let's say I drop a rifle in a bush and come back 10 hours (and few restarts) later and the rifle would still be there and only ruined items would despawn after some time or after a restart.
  24. I likethe way of think. The spawns definetly need to be as far as possible from the high value loot areas and it would be great if you would be killed off by the enviroment, hunger or thirst if you started to run towards the west end of the map from the spawn without first looting some food and other equipment near by. For example in DayZ Namalsk one of the most valuable loot areas was this military base on top of a mountain. The climb was tedious and the worst part about it was that on the mountain top the temperature dropped so low that you would start to freeze in minutes unless you had special cloathing or a backpack full of heat packs. Unfortunately you could not be killed by the cold, but because your hand started to shake aiming became almost impossible and eventually you would become infected which would eat up over 50% of your blood and made you cough constantly. Ofcourse you could cure this by taking some antibiotics, but Namalsk only had one area with hospitals (that were camped by people almost 24/7) in it and the developer of that sub-mod (proapbly a sadist) decreased the spawn chance of antibiotics in total. So in general it was not worth the weight to climb up to that mountain top unless you were equipped for that. Something similiar could (and should) be implemented to DayZ SA as well so one would not simply walk to NW airfield without first gearing up for the trip. If DayZ was more sci-fi then I would propably suggest something like the Brain Scorcher from S.T.A.L.K.E.R. -series, but I would be okey with just harsh enviroment full of angry (and lethal) wildlife and zombies ofcourse. Incase you are not familiar S.T.A.L.K.E.R. -series or the Brain scorcher I'll give a short description of both of them inside this spoiler. Actually, building your camp at the edge of map is one of the worst places for a camp I could think of. It is way too obvious. In the mod there were alot of people that went spesifically tent hunting and they would usually run around the edges of the map looking for tents. I've done it couple of times with great success. In my past I've had couple success full camp sites (the best one was never found since it vanished because "the devs broke the mod" so the tents and vehicles didn't save propely, but our camp site of four tents, two motorcycles and an atv was up and running for over a week) and I can assure you these were not near the edges of the map. Ofcourse I am not going to reveal you my secret locations because I am going to use them when the persistent items get implemented but I can tell you one place which no longer exists. There used to be this barn at the end of the road that went North of Vybor. At the time we were playing Breaking Point so there was alot of vehicles in the game. I think we had two military trucks, humwee with a grenade launcher, 2-3 off-road cars, a police car, couple atvs and motorcycles and three different kind of UAZs hidden inside the barn. The biggest problem with the vehicles was that they were damn hard to hide from helicopters, but because they were inside a barn no one could see them above. Ofcourse both of the trucks were full of guns, ammo, food, spare parts, medical supplies, backpacks etc, so if we would need to move the camp to a more safer location we could just hop in them and drive off. Our "motorpool" stayed hidden for about 5 days, but then it was discovered by a fresh spawn with nothing on him. He drove a tractor about 200 m from our barn and ran straight through the forrest into our barn. Fortunately at the time we were inside our barn so we killed him immediately but unfortunately our location was compromised. So we rolled out the trucks, planted all the satchel charges we had inside the barn and leveled the place with all the vehicles in it. After we shedding few manly tears we drove off into the sun set.
