  1. ps. i know that the range is limited - but it happened several times that other players didn't react to voice comm and/or chat at all...
  2. Question: Does direct voice chat work on all servers? How can i find out if it works or not? And does text chat always work or is it sometimes buggy?
  3. way too expoitable. just punish all mass murderers.
  4. Have direct comm always "on". The problem is that this sounds like it will put a huge load on the servers...
  5. Sweet! ~10 sec sounds better imo. Adding a message "X is leaving the game" would also help a lot.
  6. We've got plenty of resources in DayZ as well. My char eats a whole cow every day, that's how many resources we got. Apocalypse or not, there is no reason to kill another player. Again, you try to justify current player behaviour as if there was anything "realistic" about it. OP's point is that DayZ currently isn't much more than a psychopath simulator. Confusing that with a realistic simulation is just seriously twisted.
  7. Absolutely - maybe don't be as mean. If all bandits did robberiers instead of just shooting everything that moves, the game would be much more fun imo. ps. I don't think it's offensive at all - if someone really doesn't want to play along, they can just alt+f4 anyway.
  8. should generally be harder, but also more balanced. F.e. broken bones & getting knocked out can be a 1-hit kill, which is just annoying imo. Zombies seem to be near deaf, but can see you from a mile away. Healing is too hard without bloodpacks or meat, and too easy once you got them. Vehicles are way too hard to get. And so on..
  9. Agree. Meat has too much healng power. At the same time, new characters without bloodpacks/matches need a better way to heal. This would solve both and sounds more realistic as well.
  10. Some simple questions for the "kill on sight = survive" folks: 1) Did killing on sight in DayZ actually result in you surving? Did you never die this way? 2) Let's assume death is really permanent: If all players of 1 server cooperated, and all players of another server killed on sight - which server would win a war beween the 2 servers? 3) Over time, civilization trumped random killing. Why do you think that happened? 4) Name a few examples from history where a breakdown of laws/society/civilization actually resulted in KoS.
  11. This. The prisoner's dilemma is missing the point here. Every smart survivor/bandit will have his back covered by a sniper, and diplomacy becomes the best option for survival. The end. This brings us to the real problem: If the bandits are "jackasses" who just want to shoot stuff and don't care if they survive or not, the whole issue becomes moot. They will open fire anyway.
  12. Undead Labs are working on a somewhat similar game for Xbox & PC.
  13. Rocket said Respawn button will be disabled at some point the future.
  14. In fact, having a way to distinguish between scumbag and bandit isn't enough - imo we need seperate servers for a "scumbag"-style playstyle, and restrictions on regular simulation / RPG style servers. I mean, there's nothing wrong with playing scumbag-style per se. I'd play on deathmatch servers myself now and then, just for the heck of it. But those playstyles need to seperated, you can't have both in the same environment.
  15. Killing for loot is just another version of the scumbag, at least right now. Why? Because there is no need to ever kill & loot someone to survive in DayZ, unless you are a total noob and can't help yourself any other way. Surviving is a piece of cake. Imo only those "desperados" would have a truly valid bandit playstyle - but real desperados don't exist, because the game doesn't allow it.
  16. Well... you had a car. Sounds like a better reason than most kills.
  17. The same system could be done in a more "realistic" manner. F.e. players behaving "insane" turn into zombies over time. Killers get a zombie skin, griefers get penalities, total asshats get zombified, game over. The ruleset could be optional, so players can still play deathmatch on different servers if they want to.
  18. The difference between "The Road" and DayZ is that people in "The Road" kill each other because there is barely any food left. They're cannibals. In DayZ, people kill because they're FPS kiddies. Quite a difference, don't you think.
  19. Locking brightness might help, but some people will just up their monitor brightness instead. The only way to blance things out a little would be adding new game mechanics, F.e. having a very low chance to hit a target that is hidden in darkness.
  20. I don't like the idea of disabling PvP completely, but we need a 2nd hive with a different ruleset that prevents blantant deathmatching. Or just allow admins to enforce their own rules on servers that are disconnected from the hive altogether. Imo the game is simply broken. This isn't a zombie apocalypse simulation anymore, it's a giant deathmatch map.
