Consequences of player killing - a new direction!
drseptapus replied to heretic (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The only way I see combating bandits, is if the game makes it to a stage where the players are able to police themselves. Survivors lock down a high priority location. Don't let bandits in. "Oh really? You have a broken leg and are bleeding out? Too bad we have reports of you murdering for soda and are an asshole." An in game pen/paper system would really help with this, keeping a record of known bandits would be huge. -
GET OUT OF MY HEAD. I was daydreaming about a pen/paper system all day yesterday.

Micspammers would be a non-issue as you can just mute them. I love this idea and actually was thinking about it a little while back. Multiple frequency system I think would be super necessary. Also how cool would it be to just scan the airwaves and eavesdrop? I would imagine it would be a chat channel activated by the radio being in your inventory. You could specify the channel by right clicking the radio in your inventory. It would be cool if you were audible for the same distance as the direct chat. So someone stalking you could hear you talking to your buddy and set up an ambush or something. It would be audible on both ends so the stalker would hear you AND your buddy who is however far away. I'm not a bandit btw but I think the nature of the game calls for allowing people to be dicks. Edit: This would also make radio towers a highly contested area I think. (If that mechanic is implemented). OR Ideally instead of lighting up a friendly broadcaster, just say "hey, i'm trying to get to my friend in ______, do you mind pausing your Rebecca Black marathon and letting me contact my buddy who is X km away?" Little interactions like that make the game so much better I think. Killing everybody is super boring.

Great post. It's always nice to know the direction the devs are going in, being in the dark is just the worst. My favorite part is the fact that he is staying out of the world, the players get to have such a huge effect. Once having static defendable positions becomes feasible I think this game will really take off. That would be a huge step in combating bandits IMO. Right now everybody can just kill everybody. Once you have a survivor base you can effectively keep the bandits out. Then bandits would actually be bandits living in the wilderness for themselves, and survivors would be living and working together and OH MY GOD I WANT THIS NOW.

Third person vs First person view
drseptapus replied to Rising (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'll try that when I get home. Thanks man. -
In an ideal world this would work. However unless I am wrong (feel free to correct me) this feature is not in Arma2 and thus not in DayZ. Bringing this in right now would take a lot of time and effort. I would resubmit this idea further down the road. Maybe when it is being developed as a standalone game. It's not a bad idea though.

Third person vs First person view
drseptapus replied to Rising (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I use it because the default FOV sucks and I can't figure out how to change it. -
I'm looking for a group to play later in the day with. I'm 21 and got a mic and all that jazz. Just started today and had a fantastic time. Steam name is BigMoneyPuss777. In game is DrSeptapus.

Freakin' BANDITS omg pvp in this game

I should be angry. But you made me laugh. Well played. -
My first character. I've been doing pretty well I think. At least I was. I was walking up the stairs in Zub Castle and fell off. I was unconcious for a while, and when I came to, I had a broken leg. I crawled slowly but surely to the top of the castle where I now reside. I don't have the means to mend my leg, or defend myself really, all I have is my trusty hatchet and an empty makarov. Night will be falling in a couple hours. It is approximately 7pm on this server. I put a note on the map saying "Broken leg Need Morphine" so hopefully someone will see it. I watched as two survivors run through Vyshnoye a little while ago, but they didn't come to my rescue despite my yelling into my mic (How far can people hear me in direct chat btw?). Aaaaanyway, I am not one to give up just because i'm stranded in a tower with no weapons, minimal provisions and a broken leg! I intend to hold out until the bitter end. I'll be here if anybody wants to help out. I'm on US 221, Zub Castle. I'll be the one at the top of the tower twiddling my thumbs/watching people with binoculars. Steam name is BigMoneyPuss777. I'll be on for another hour or so (currently 11:27 US eastern). EDIT: I HAVE BEEN RESCUED K5v9n is the fucking man

Anybody up for a rescue mission?
drseptapus replied to drseptapus's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah I guess I lucked out. In retrospect I should have known better seeing as how I lurked here pretty much all day before playing. Oh well, good to know not all of the players are PvP ballsacks. -

I have been rescued. I'm glad I held out like you guys said, it made the experience so much better. K5v9n found me and delivered the morphine. Easily one of the coolest games ever. So... The adventure continues.
