I think I speak for the majority of the forum when I say that it is just obnoxious.

Another double post. I'm off the ball today.
-
I would rather the killfeed be gone completely and used for the proposed radio broadcasts.
-
Why? It would be a nice feature. +1 definitely.

Only if Sean Connery does the voice of the dragon.

Exhaustion, zombie speed and numbers...lots of stuff...

I definitely support this. While I like being able to sprint for miles, it does take away some of the fun knowing I can just run away from anything. This would mesh well with a couple of the other ideas being thrown around the forum. I imagine taking it out had something to do with the difficulties coding the zombies. I would imagine it would get back in eventually. Jesus kid you're annoying. EDIT: Ninja'd by a mod. Good job though that kid deserved it. -
+1. It would definitely be glitchy at first and I would imagine it would be best if this was held off until the standalone game. I definitely support this though. Who leaves binoculars in the MIDDLE of a room?

The trick would be to make them essentially sidegrades. It would need to be implemented in such a way that would discourage being high as balls all the time. A good example was the different substances you could use in Morrowind. You could get huge boosts to certain stats and crippling drains on others. Not that Day Z even has a stat system but something along those lines would be the only way I see it working. It would probably have to mess with your aim or endurance (if ever the fatigue system comes back) and possibly make you go unconscious if you OD. This is definitely low on the priority list for Rocket I would imagine though. It's an interesting concept and I think it should at least stay on the table.

Only if bongs become a loot-able item.

Random Earth Quake events that aggro all Zeds
drseptapus replied to Ankhenaten's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Unless Chernarus is on a particularly active fault line I would say no. However I am not opposed to external sources aggroing zombies. Something like a zombie chasing a dog or a bird would be pretty cool I think. Car alarms are a little cliche but I would still support them. -
I like the idea of having a safe area, but they way you are implementing it is at odds with the current direction of the game. Anybody feel free to correct me if i'm wrong but I was under the impression that there will not be any NPCs. In addition to not having NPCs I also believe that there will never be a police force of any kind. Rocket has stated that he wants player interaction to be controlled by the players. Invulnerability will never happen. That being said I would say this idea is not completely useless. Your server wide broadcast has already been discussed in spirit. I'm sure you have seen all the threads about the radios. I seem to remember somebody throwing out the idea that there could be stationary radios that would sometimes play messages that would provide insight as to what happened to the area and why there are zombies everywhere, I think it would be cool if the players could input messages and have them broadcast to all players within range of the radio. The basic concept of a base hopefully will be implemented in the future. Rocket has said that he hopes to implement the ability to allow players to make their own bases that take a long time to build. What I think would be cool is if somebody makes a camp outside of a town, and when he leaves in the morning, sends out a message on the radio saying that there is a camp set up at [location] and it is open to anybody in the area. This also opens up the possibility of player run safe areas, which would be where you would able to meet up with people and form groups like you had proposed.

+1 to the violent dogs/wolves idea. It's a nice throwback to Resident Evil, but I don't think it makes sense, unless the virus is evolving. I think having wild animals in the wilderness would be an awesome idea, making the huge areas between towns more dangerous would make the game much less boring in my opinion. More wildlife in general would be a great addition I think. Right now the whole map seems pretty dull. It would be cool to see a pack of wild dogs or a couple deer in the forest. Stray cats, squirrels, bears fuck I don't know. I think this is an easy way to bring life and unscripted events to the game with minimal effort.

I think this is a great idea/great first post. I think it would be important to make the distinction between mountainous forest region and flat plains. You should be able to drive on flat areas of grass with reduced mobility but it shouldn't be too difficult, but once you get into the wilderness it should be damn near impossible. Oh man bandits would be so much cooler if they ran you off the road and stole all your shit.

Hostile Act timer [Hinder the friggin dcing...]
drseptapus replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
This would be annoying to implement as identifying a shot as hostile will be a bitch. How would you determine if a shot was hostile? What if you are playing by yourself and a random survivor is within 1km when you shoot a zombie? What if you are in a group? They are definitely going to be within 1km at all times probably. Will nobody be able to disconnect cleanly? From a programming point of view I don't think there is an easy way to find out what an aggressive action is. I know there were plans to implement a system where you would not be able to pick up loot for 15 minutes after logging back in, but that is addressing a different issue. -
I believe one of Rocket's long term goals is to allow players the ability to construct long term defendable bases. I hope it happens!

How to kill zombies with no weapons! (For Beginners)
drseptapus replied to Tyler Bro's topic in New Player Discussion
Hooray physics! -
Are you in direct chat? If what I was told is correct, the direct chat range is only about 80 meters or so. People will only hear you if you are very close to them. I assume the mic works otherwise? EDIT: There is another thread somewhere with somebody having a similar issue. Someone had mentioned that the server may also not have VOIP enabled, in which case you simply will not be able to use your mic on that server.

Ideally they would spawn everywhere. I could see different areas on the map associated with a frequency of spawns. Out in the countryside you may get two or three over a couple kilometers, but as you get closer and closer the frequency picks up. This would go hand in hand with improved zombie hearing. Allowing all zombies that heard the shot start lumbering in that general direction when you discharge your weapon would discourage random shootings, and encourage smart, stealthy gameplay (when close to a population center at least). Right now having them only spawn in cities/towns makes traveling boring. If I know that it is an impossibility that there are zombies in the forest, why would I ever be stealthy and not just sprint through? Having the possibility of danger will make the boring parts (traveling) more interesting.

I need a little feedback for something I want to test
drseptapus replied to Dr. Vaan MD's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
As long as you know there is a difference between bandits and people just killing people for no reason. I would be so down. -
Just take it and go. If anything it will be fun kamikaze-ing into an unsuspecting player.
-
If any of you bothered to read the thread you would know that OP and the people he was arguing with came to a pretty solid understanding. Stop bumping this thread, it's over.

Starting weapons? I've already got two! Fist One and Fist Two!
drseptapus replied to yoshiioko's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I believe that Rocket plans on implementing a fist fighting system in the future. -
How did this thread get this far? Did anybody really think OP wasn't a troll?

What was your first death?

Just happened 2 minutes ago. I found a tractor poorly hidden under a tree and next to a bush. Realizing it might be bait, I scanned the treeline with my binoculars and upon seeing nothing, began crawling through the grass trying to stay as hidden as possible. I got to the tractor and promptly booked it. Being low on supplies I made a pit stop at some construction site. I wanted to hide the tractor good so I tried to stick it in between a bunch of bushes on the far side of the construction site outside the wall, and apparently I glitched into the bushes and got stuck. Rather upset about losing the tractor so early, I began looting the site anyway. I got punched by one zombie, and it broke my leg. Didn't find any morphine, but I found painkillers and bandages. Used those right away. Then one more zombie got me good enough to get bleeding again. Crawled out of the construction site back to my tractor. Still unable to free it, I sat next to it and just bled out.
