Hello and welcome to the Forum. Please pay attention as to which section you're posting in, as you have posted in the Standalone section, whilst your question is regarding DayZ Mod. DayZ Mod is available on Steam, there's no additional Launchers required. Moved.

Of course VILayer has to use .pbo's as well and they are even accessible by the server-admin, the folder-structure is just different. If you want to learn how these things work, I suggest you do some reading up on how the entire system works, seeing as these are really basic questions. One way to start is trying to set up a server on your own computer and trying to join that and then change some things around, as the system is the same as on a vilayer-server, but it's easier to understand, as your folder-structure on your computer is already known to you...

Yes, it's being regularly updated, look in the "Official" section for more information about updates, both game and status reports by the devs: https://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/forum/136-official/ No. And it is strictly forbidden for, for example, server-owners to try to introduce any attempt of this and will be followed legally. Don't expect the game to work flawlessly at 60 FPS constantly, this is why it's still in Alpha. There are still performance-concerns, but it's being worked on at the moment and I personally have seen a lot of improvement over time. At this point in time there aren't many zombies in the game, if any. This is due to how the development works, but work is being done on the zombie-part to have them improved and in huge numbers - which is the ultimate goal of development. It is always worth owning ARMA 2 and its expansions, as the Multiplayer-Community is very much still alive. Whilst we're not currently pushing out updates for the mod on a regular basis, there are still a few very active and almost always full servers - and there are still other mods and missions and gamemodes one can play. I wish I could tell you something different, but it'd be a lie. The community is fairly aggressive and you will most likely end up being frustrated more than once, but if you do your best to be one of the good guys, good things will happen to you.

Stuck at Waiting for server to start authentication
kichilron replied to sQuat's topic in Server Owners and Admins
It would be good to know what is part of the serverstartup-routine. Be as detailed as possible. Simply saying "I doubleclick the exe" just won't cut it and is not how you start the server-instance itself. -
Stuck at Waiting for server to start authentication

More importantly you seem to be missing the entire serverside addon. Mind sharing how you're starting up the server? -

A few things to note: it is not suggested to start a server is there's 0 knowledge, as the tiniest changes can affect overall playability. However, if you wish to continue: search your computer for the arma2oaserver.rpt Where to find that: https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Crash_Files -
OP hasn't come back and apparently people think it's okay to take over someone else's topic. @OP: PM me for further questions. Locked.

Please make sure to post in the correct section of the Forum. Moved. To be able to play DayZ Mod you simply need to download it from Steam and launch it: http://store.steampowered.com/app/224580/

Since when is Mac running Linux? Either way. You can always check the Steam Page for supported OS's. It'll tell you there what to use. To be able to play on other OS's than Windows you will have to stick to something like bootcamp, which will work or not.

I think that demeaning titles aren't the way to go. Don't use that word.

Well, the question here is whether you had any .cfg's already existing when you now reinstalled. Try deleting them all and doublecheck that you don't have any launchparameters.
-
I assume you did not delete your configfiles before reinstalling? What about your launchparameters in Steam? Are there still any set?

I have a link for you right here. Also, the database is really descriptive in its naming. If you don't know anything about MySQL it's not recommended trying to change anything. If you do, you'll be able to figure the DB out in no time.

I don't even understand what you're trying to say with either of these statements. Care to elaborate on that?

This. I can't believe how both of you can get off on a tangient when in theory you agreed that it is a good idea: You both need to calm your horses before entering the race.

It's for servers.

You should try and contact your GSP first and foremost, as they're the ones taking care of your server.

Is This Normal For Players On Servers?
kichilron replied to Deathlove's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It is always a good idea to find yourself a good DayZ Mod Server where you know the admins don't do these kind of things. I can, for example, suggest US 434 for the US-Players. -

Ah, well. Shit. I missed it. Was supposed to go there, seeing as it's exactly where I live anyway. -
Well, over here in Germany, the land of the poets and thinkers, a double negative is actually a rhetorical construct that can be used to make a point and is the exact opposite of "poor grammar".

The prices SSD are based around at the moment don't merit not getting an SSD.
-
I am not going to go into details now, because it is a long argument, but fast drives can improve FPS. Now, keep in mind that some HDD's are on the same performance level than cheap SSD's.
-
It is a solid build, don't worry. For that kind of money you still get a better PC than the majority. However - one thing to keep in mind: do you already have all peripherals? This includes Monitor (1080p, if lower no point in that kind of hardware), mouse, keyboard. Also - if you can manage to get together about 60 quid more, you should get yourself an SSD, well worth the money, especially for DayZ. I wouldn't bother replacing the HDD with an SSD, as you'll need both (for storage reasons - you'll only get a 250GB SSD for 60 quid, max.)
