As of late I've seen a pretty steady stream of "punish the bandits" threads. It's part of the game, get used to it. It's not like L4D2 or any other zombie/post-apoc game where a few survivors team up and fight, it's pretty realistic to think that anyone and everyone would want to shoot you for your beans. Just because the world is in tatters doesn't mean there isn't conflict amongst one another.

Well then, I guess I'm wrong and my experience has been questioned! -
Possible solution to paranoid killing
Bukethead replied to soaltrain's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
And you're absolutely sure anyone who's shot you first wasn't just looking to get your gear? Everyone likes to say how they'd do something in real life, and I can guarantee, you would not trust a random someone running into a room at you with a gun. But if this is such a problem for you, you could try what most people do which is to yell "FRIENDLY, FRIENDLY" over your mic and then get shot. -
Above is a concept I created based on the TF2 Outpost item tracking interface. I have wondered where a particular item I have has gone to once I've died. This suggested interface would gather data from the DayZ servers, obviously a delay would be necessary so you can't have accurate info on who currently has it (and subsequently go and find them, and kill them for it), but it'd give you somewhat of a history and tell you if someone else is still running around with a pack/rifle/can of beans/etc that you dropped or were killed for. This would also tell you if the item was wiped, despawned, or etc. Any thoughts?

In a post-apoc world filled with zombies and bandits, you'd run around with a taser? You'd better just give me your beans right now, because you won't alive long enough to eat them yourself.

US 353 Occurred just before 12:50 PM PST A hacker tele'd everyone on the server to the top of a building in Cherno.

What are the devs working on at the moment?

What are you supposed to do if a server owner stops paying for it or decides to shut the server down?
-
I am in agreement with this. The only sounds of DayZ should be gun fire, the suspenseful ambiance tracks, and whatever friends you have playing with you, screaming in horror and fear.
-
realistic fiction =/= actual life.

Server this happened on: US 399 * 9:30 PM PST * MOTD suggests when server admins are on, they kick any player except their friends that join. Cannot confirm that this is true but why else would they have an MOTD like this if this wasn't the case? Evidence: http://youtu.be/6xyXLXn5zZc

That sure was a constructive post. Never played CoD in my life. Also I just explained it wasn't a GPS to every item in the game. L2read. If I told you I was in Stary Sobor on XYZ server, do you know exactly where I am?
-
It was a suggestion, no need to be such a dick about it. It was a loose suggestion at that. It would only outline general areas like you see when you spawn in. If someone has a base in the wilderness, it would come up and say wilderness. You act like it'd give the GPS coordinates of the item so you could go to it on the map. Seriously, calm the fuck down and realize how irrational you sound.
-
What purpose does playing a game serve? entertainment. This to be would be amusing to see where your loot has gone to. Serious suggestions? Please, get off your goddamn high horse, this is a video game, not cancer research.
-
in either case, your character is going to be standing around doing nothing, defenseless. I mean what are you going to suggest next, the server sends a message to your computer, launches DayZ, and joins the server so if you happen to be home at the time, you can fight back? This is just absolutely ridiculous.
-
If we're going with realism, then somehow your character would be able to wake up if it hears footsteps or gunfire. But I honestly doubt you've thought of that in your suggestion. That is why this is not a good idea, aside from the fact that your character is ALWAYS in the world and can ALWAYS be attacked and killed while you have absolutely no way of stopping or apprehending them.
-
This game is trying to achieve being balanced and fun while maintaining an element of fear and suspense. It is not trying to be uber ultra realistic.
-
This isn't life, this is DayZ. Get it out of your mind that this is real life, it's realistic fiction. If any game was actually like real life, do you think anyone would play it? No.
-
Are you suggesting that players bodies would never be void of being attacked/killed even when they're offline, i.e. their bodies never disappear from the world? Do you realize how cheap and unfair that will be? I don't care where you choose to stop for the night, someone will find you and loot your corpse. I just posted about being killed when you spawn in before you get control of your player, and can't even see or hear anything around you. This would be that multiplied by the entire time you're not playing. The last thing we need are lifeless morons who play this game, to stay on it 24/7 and have deaths as a result of lack of sleep and exhaustion like we see in Korea and Japan. All because they didn't want to lose some meaningless virtual items. No. I agree that PvP disconnects are cheap but what happens when someone's internet/power goes out? They're screwed is what happens. Even in Minecraft, your body does not remain on the server unless you are on it. Plus this is not Minecraft. I seriously think it's not the CoD kiddies that will ruin this mod, but the Minecraft kiddies that learned about it from *insert name here popular youtube videogame let's player*.

To quote myself since you obviously can't read for shit. "obviously a delay would be necessary so you can't have accurate info on who currently has it (and subsequently go and find them, and kill them for it)"
-
Do we really need more reasons for people to disconnect when they come under fire?
-
Until you start moving would be incredibly cheap, until you can control your character seems a bit more reasonable. If you stand still and the game loads you can be shot, it'd be your own damn fault for not moving out of the way. But when your body spawns in before you can even move, shoot, or see and you are killed, feels just a little bit cheap don't you think?
-
Bump instead of starting new topic. Just today I spawned into a server, and before I had control of my player (screen was black, icons loaded, character was in game but not controllable), I was killed by someone. There shouldn't be a wait time or a spawn protection per say, just prevent you from being killed when you have absolutely no way to fight back/control your character. Then once you have control, you are able to be fired upon, etc.
-
Relogging should fix the problem.

If this doesn't count as view whoring I don't know what does.
