We were just minding our own business and some bandits camping fresh spawns from a roof try to kill us... Check out my friends live stream channel! He's fairly new to streaming and to DayZ. This video is from his point of view. http://www.twitch.tv/featuretv You can find my channel here. http://www.twitch.tv/robpsychobob

Yeh, I'm fully aware of that and it was one of the first things I told him before he picked up the game. Loot is just so common currently and it's so easy to survive that we don't care, we'd rather beat their lifeless bodies to a pulp. Lol.

We're a couple of guys who are both new to streaming. Lately we've been streaming DayZ! Definitely check us out. Feature has been doing a ton of Giveaways and there are plenty more to come. The details can be found on his channel. http://www.twitch.tv/featuretv http://www.twitch.tv/robpsychobob

1. Equipped weapon melee! It just sucks having someone at gunpoint and knowing you have to switch to a melee weapon or fists before you can knock them out or even the handcuffs before you can detain them. That one little moment could cause you to lose control of the situation and end up with you being force fed disinfectant spray and/or dead. Also, If you melee with a weapon there could even be a chance to break the stock or some other part on the weapon. 2. ArmA 3 Stand Animations! This one is pretty self explanatory but I'll just leave this here for anyone who doesn't know what I'm talking about - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C78KrLeMnu4 Unfortunately he doesn't mention the side-step animations that also exist, but I'm sure you get the idea. 3. Supply Collection / Modular Base Building! Of all the mod variations, I have to say Epoch had the most well developed base building system(I believe there was another with a really similar system but I can't remember the name of it). I'd say it's an ideal place to start and beginning improving from. Nothing says accomplishment like collecting a massive amount of base building materials and forging a base from nothing with your bare hands, either from scratch or by using some of the existing architecture in the world. It practically makes my mouth water when I picture this system improved and then combined with the ability to enter 99.9% of the buildings in DayZ Standalone. I would just leave out things such as they key-code locked safe they have. Item lose is and should remain part of DayZ but that doesn't mean it should be easy....In-fact you could keep something such as the safe if you implemented a way to crack it other than spending the rest of eternity trying to guess combinations. I would also leave out the merchants that Epoch has, trading and item value should be completely player driver and based on barter. Here is a pretty good example as to how it works in DayZ Epoch - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvBXXwX_pm4 4. Player to Player Trade UI and "Mark" friendly players! There should really be a way of initiating a trade with other players that is complete with an actual UI. This would be a huge improvement over having to throw items on the ground to trade, which just seems weird to be honest. I would say your hands have to be empty and you can't have your fists raised to be able to access the trade UI. It would also be nice to be able to mark other players as friendly. It wouldn't add any sort of UI or make them easier to tell apart from anyone else. All it would do is allow players who trust eachother to more quickly trade with eachother without the need for the trade UI or dropping of items. Just like with the trade UI, I would say your hands would need to be empty and your fists lowered, this would allow the option to pop up in the in-game scroll menu, and again, for it to work, both people have to "Befriend" eachother. Say I meet my friend in game. I look at him and use the in-game scroll menu to select "Befriend" or something of the sort. If he does the same then we're marked as friendly. I can then enter his backpack or he can enter mine and looting it is similar to how it worked in the mod. That way I could give him food, drink or meds without having to force feed him. I could give him ammo or take ammo I need if we were in the middle of a gunfight. You could even have someone refilling your weapon's magazines so you didn't have to take your eyes off a crucial target! 5. Weapon scopes usable as Binoculars! We should be able to hold weapon optics in our hands and use them! 6. Noise-Makers! Find some firecrackers+matches, glass bottles or perhaps...flashbang grenades and be able to toss/place them somewhere to lure in the infected. I just can't stop picturing a nice surprise for server hoppers when they spawn into a small barracks room filled with infected. Reminds me of the good ol' days of seeing a server hopper spawn onto a tank trap. 7. Ruined Item Drawbacks! I know some ruined items have drawbacks already and most are pretty obvious/common sense but here are some others to consider. -Ruined Clothes/Backpacks: fairly high chance to fall off and be on the ground, high chance for things to fall out of the pockets fairly high chance for both to happen at the same time. You would have to stop to pick them back and put items back into the pockets. -Ruined Canned Food: Filled with shards of metal from the can. Fairly high chance to make you bleed from the mouth, unable to be stopped with bandages but stops bleeding on it's own after a very short amount of time. High chance of making you sick and antibiotics could counter it as per the norm. -Ruined Magazines/Ammo: When loaded into a weapon and fired they have an extremely high chance of causing the weapon to jam. -Ruined Bandaged: Very high chance to NOT stop the bleeding. 8. UI/Overlays for Different Headgear! If you're wearing something such as a motorcycle helmet or gas mask, there should be an overlay on the screen to show it. Think of it as how the nightvision works in the mod. 9. Infected hordes and stragglers! I was up north earlier(Which looks absolutely gorgeous) and I found the lack of zombies a bit saddening. There are a lot of areas with really dense trees right along side the road and I just kept thinking how awesome it would be to all the sudden have a group of 10+ infected pop out of them because they heard my footsteps from just out of sight. It'd also be nice to have random single zombies out in the middle of nowhere as well. I know the zombie count is a massive work in progress but this is something to keep in mind! 10. Separate characters for each server... or something! I just like that feeling of having a "Home" server. When you can join any server that feeling is gone. Perhaps there is a way to have a unique ID for your character that is stored somewhere safe that tells the main hive what gear to give your character for whichever server you join? I dunno, I'm certainly no programmer but there must be a way to do it without storing massive amounts of data for each player. Just tossing out ideas! 11. Don't add helicopters! I absolutely love flying helicopters in the DayZ Mod and ArmA. I really think they shouldn't be added, at all, to Standalone. In the mod they always made camps pointless. Players in a chopper could find every camp on the server in a single day. I just don't want to see all the amazing camp/base locations I've found made obsolete because of an un-needed flying vehicle. I'm all for having nearly any type of ground vehicle. However - If we have the means of making our camps and vehicles so well camouflaged that they are able to be hidden from a chopper that is flying low and specifically looking for camps, I'd be fine with them being added. 12. Remove third person! Usually I'm all about choice but on this topic I don't think there should be one. Third person gives all players and a godly advantage over all other players... but not at the same time. A person peeking around a corner with third person will kill the player approaching the corner 99/100+ times. Third person makes it MUCH easier to spot other players at a distance. It allows you to see over, around and even through walls, doors, windows, grass, bushes, trees and hills. It's much easier to aim using third person and a crosshair than first person. It removes the sense of fear and confusion almost completely. I'm sure I will eventually be able to choose between a first and third person server but that doesn't solve the problem. The first person servers will always be near empty or the owner won't continue to pay for them for long periods of time from lack of players and donations. Also, everyone who enjoys playing first person only has at least one friend who doesn't want to play first person, someone losses every time you play together. The number one reason it should be removed is because doing so makes the game more balanced for everyone. It removes the ability to have an unequal, nearly unbeatable, advantage from every player which is a very good thing. Honestly, it goes against the entire point of the mod... hardcore, unforgiving survival where risk and fear of death are constant companions. This just isn't the case when you've got third person. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTcdva-HzSs I'm fine with having third person in during Alpha/Beta for testing purposes but it has no place in the final game for sure. 13. No Private Hives / Minimum server owner control! The server admins shouldn't be able to change the settings for the game. Especially when their settings effect every other server. If they add private hive servers with custom settings then then game will just devolve into what the mods are now... a whole lot of garbage with a few good features. All they should be able to do is manage the players on the server. They shouldn't be able to lock servers and if they just ban everyone who joins so they can play alone, their server should be removed from the list. If you think that sounds cruel then you're wrong. All it's doing is stopping players from giving themselves an advantage. If you think that's a bad thing then it's the exact same thing as saying hacking isn't a bad thing. I know many of these have been suggested to death, it just goes to show how important they are and it's always worth mentioning them again. I'll be back to update as my friends and I think of more ideas!
-
Good idea. I'm all for this and having helicopters so long as they don't make building a base pointless.
-
I agree. I've always thought it's so weird that we have to throw items on the ground to trade them. Picture doing that in real life. haha.
-
I remember something about that too and I don't think it would be a good idea. People have to be able to lose their gear since that is what makes the game so fun, the element of risk and knowing that one mistake could cost you everything. I'd much rather see a base system such as that from epoch. However, in Epoch there is locked safes that are essentially unbeatable, I would like to see them able to be cracked if added to Standalone. Even if it meant a 15 minute safe cracking animation or something AFTER finding some sort of tools to allow it to happen.
-
I agree. I know they already plan on adding some sort of system like this because they did with the mod.
-
I know I've heard Rocket talk about third person and what could be done to stop it from being so "cheaty" but since I'm definitely not going to go digging around for that tweet, post or video, i'll just consider it a loss. It's cheating / gives an unfair advantage - That's a pretty f'kin massive concern when you're playing against other people in a game where every decision matters. You CAN peek around corners either by using the classic "Cone/Wedge" technique or by simply leaning out while near a corner. They don't have a way to peek vertically but I'm sure they could easily add the stance animations from ArmA 3 which would vastly improve the game. As for it being unrealistic. Sure it's a game but it's a survival game, that alone means it should be as difficult as can be. It's not really survival when there is no difficulty. In a game where they have real world blood type statistics with realistic blood collection/administration mechanics that can result in an instant death, having a third person... I don't even know what to call it. It just makes me want to do this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUvADbpqGlQ I'd say it's abundantly clear that they want the game to be as realistic as possible but for some reason they've thrown in possibly the most unrealistic mechanic they could think of. This really makes it seem like they're more concerned about the money and catering to the majority than making an amazing game, which I don't believe would have any trouble being successful if even if they removed third person and issued refunds to the people who would demand one because of it. Just look at how much hate DayZ had everytime the release of Alpha was delayed. Everywhere I went people were saying "I don't even care about Standalone anymore" then they still sold what, 170,000+ copies in a 24h period? I'd be surprised if even half of their current total sales demanded refunds. I'd also bet than many who got a refund would rebuy eventually anyway when it hits beta and final release. Not only that but Rocket is telling people not to buy it yet unless they're sure they want it. Now is the ideal time to make some radical decisions, such as removing third person. This would also allow people to thoroughly test first person and let them know what needs to be improved. So the first person we have now could be drastically different from what could be in the final release. Third person is really hindering that aspect of it as well I'd say.
-
Agree. I'm sure the amount of tears would easily refill the oceans even if they were completely empty. I honestly believe that if they just removed it completely and kept it that way the amount of complaints would drop to near nonexistent levels. New players wouldn't care and current/older players would become accustomed to first person. They'd realize how much they've been missing out on. It's much more than just a different visual perspective, the whole experience is different. The game might suffer for a short time when the first made the change but in the long term it would become much stronger.
-
This^ I do think having third person does make it easier to spot people at a distance but I believe that's because the camera angle is higher and everything has the illusion of moving slightly slower. It's not something I can easily explain. Not to mention it's pretty easy to search for someone when you're safely behind a wall and able to see over, around and/or through it without exposing your position.
-
First person is beneficial for the game because it removes all of the unfair advantage that third person gives you. It fits with what the game was originally designed to be. The reason there shouldn't be a choice is because it splits the community and eventually kills the hardcore servers. It's possible that the hardcore servers will last forever in Standalone but based on the mod, I don't see that happening. There is nothing wrong with being able to hear people who are around a corner or sneaking up behind you because it's not an unfair advantage. It's not impossible to hear people around a corner or sneaking up on your even if you've only got a basic stereo headset. In that situation your odds of wining aren't really more that 50/50 all else being equal.
-
I am saying that everyone should be locked to first person because doing so is beneficial for the game as a whole; it fits with what the game was originally designed to be, the Standalone isn't as clunky and has much better perspective options such as a FoV slider, It makes the would make the game more balanced for everyone and removes the unequal god-like advantage that third person gives everyone. Usually I'm all for choice but not in this case because it splits the community. Eventually the hardcore servers will die off because the amount of players will slowly drop over time until the servers are empty and/or end up being shut down, especially if they are player owned. This is exactly what happened in the mod, except in the mod players were allowed to create server with 24/7 day and 10,000 vehicles. There are no true hardcore servers left. It went out of control and everyone seems to have lost sight of what made the game so popular to begin with. The players ruined the mod and I know exactly how they did it, it should be obvious to anyone that plays and especially to those who've played from the start, like I have. I'm here to stop it from happening again.
-
Well believe whatever you need to believe. You're clearly not reading my posts. I've given plenty of un-biased proof to support why first person only would be more beneficial to the game and allowing third person. I've given plenty of proof as to why the option of having first and third person servers isn't a solution that works. If you don't want to hear what I've got to say that's fine by me but I'm done discussing with you until you present some tangible facts to support what you're saying. Good luck.
-
They're really not bad in the Standalone at all. Not nearly as bad as in the mod. They'll only get better as well since this is just an Alpha.
-
If you actually read my post, you wouldn't continue to say "You only want it because you prefer it." If I'm arrogant because I want the game to be fair for everyone and last for a long time then I guess I'm arrogant. Personally, I think that sounds pretty stupid. What don't you understand about my opinion has no bearing on my suggestion?Just because I prefer first person doesn't mean it's the better choice. It's the better choice because it's the better choice; there is absolutely no need for it at all, the game would be better balanced with out it and allowing it slowly kills the game, just like everything else that gives people a god-like advantage. I don't want it to be a hardcore zombie survival simulator ----> it was designed to be one from the start! <---- Third person stops it from actually being one. Third person was part of ArmA and the mod was as well so there wasn't anything that could be done about third person in the mod other than server owners disabling it. Now the devs are in control and they aren't even sticking with the original design of the game. Everything the player does in game is supposed to matter. Every decision is supposed to be a major one. If you can see a player without leaving yourself exposed in even the slightest way then you're going completely against the point of the game and what made it fun. "Is this guy going to kill me? Should I kill him first or try and trade?" It's supposed to be a mind game as much as a physical one. That's why the DayZ mod was so popular so quickly, now it's just deathmatch with zombies and a couple survival aspects. I don't want to see DayZ Standalone go down the same path, I want to see them actually improve. I've given plenty of facts to support why my suggestion is a good idea. Nobody has given an argument that supports why it's not. All I've heard is "Some people prefer it", "Motion Sickness" and "Situational awareness". Some people prefer it is irrelevant because it's opinion. I've already addressed motion sickness and you don't need third person to be situationally aware. The majority Loves third person but just because the majority wants it, doesn't mean they should get it or that it's a good thing and is beneficial to the game. This is exactly the case with third person. Situational Awareness in first person only suffers because of the player being used to how much more third person gives you. If everyone was locked to first person. Nobody would know the difference and after they played using first person only for a while they would become accustomed to it. Since everyone else would be in the same boat, there is no argument for situational awareness. When it comes to servers that players have control over, they will lock it, make it super easy for them and their friends to loot all the best gear then come to a server where people are playing legitimately. When they die, they will go back to their server and gear up again. It's an exploit, it's exactly as bad as hacking. The mod has devolved even further from that. All you have to do is look at it. There is nothing but servers with settings that completely defeat the purpose of the game. I would be fine with there being hundreds of vehicles if gas spawning in-game was about as rare as seeing a unicorn in real life. I'd be fine with there being thousands of weapons if ammo and magazines were equally as rare. I'm trying to get the game back on it's original design track because I actually care about it.

Third person is the second worst thing to ever be allowed in the DayZ Mod/DayZ. Allowing server owners full control over the setting is the first. The only good thing that came from that is that it allowed people to create variations like Epoch and Origins. All of the variations are just awful but most do contain a lot of good features that should be added to DayZ Standalone. It doesn't matter if someone is more comfortable using third person, it doesn't change the fact that all it does is give people an advantage they shouldn't ever have and there is no reason to have it as far as the gameplay is concerned. I fully aware that others enjoy third person but, again, that doesn't change the fact that removing it makes the game more balanced for everyone. This is why it should be removed completely. I don't want it removed because I don't like it. I want it removed because doing so makes the game more balanced for everyone. Removing it makes the game better. "Don't like it don't play the game" is just plain f'king stupid. "Don't like it don't use it" doesn't work. If you think it's possible to find a good hardcore server in the DayZ mod then you're truly mistaken. This is exactly what's going to happen to DayZ Standalone as well. 1/4 of their servers will be "Hardcore" according to Brian Hicks - https://twitter.com/Hicks_206/status/414075118512373760 Let me say that again just so it can be better understood. ----> 1/4 <---- of the official servers in DayZ, which is supposed to be a hardcore unforgiving zombie survival simulator, will be Hardcore/first person only. Maybe he meant that is just how many there will be at first but I really doubt it. These servers might be full to the brim at the start then they will slowly die off. I will want to play on them and most of my friends won't. Since between First and Third, First makes the game more balanced and fair for everyone, it is the only option there should be. As for the SOME of the problems with choice between First/Third - "I'm sure I will eventually be able to choose between a first and third person server but that doesn't solve the problem. The first person servers will always be near empty or the owner won't continue to pay for them for long periods of time from lack of players and donations. Also, everyone who enjoys playing first person only has at least one friend who doesn't want to play first person, someone losses every time you play together." It seems like you really skimmed over the details of my original post.
-
I'd hide my camp better if it were possible. If you think you're able to hide you camp at all in the mod then you're a liar.
-
Third person is a much bigger issues for the game than people getting motion sickness and not being able to play as long as others. Especially since there is a FoV slider now and you are easily able to disable things like blur effects and head-bob.
-
This. As for the choppers, I'm fine with having them added so long as camps are able to be truly camouflaged making them able to be hidden from the players in the chopper for more than a single day. I want to be able to have a chopper to fly directly over my base and have no clue it was there even though the players in it were specifically looking for the camp.
-
Finding a first person server doesn't solve the issue. It just creates more problems. I'd be find with adding helicopters if it were possible to truly camouflage your camp so they couldn't just be found in a single day by players in the chopper, like it is in the mod. If the server goes down then that's what happens and you've got to start over. This is already an issues with first person only servers for the mod. Players ghosting, combat logging and server hopping are all much worse things that happen without separate characters.
-
Finding a first person only server isn't a solution for the problem. It's just an increase in problems. There is a FOV slider in the options so peripheral vision isn't an an excuse for third person anymore. I'm only at like 1/3 of the maximum and I have no trouble being situationally aware. They could just lock everyone to a certian FOV and then we're all on completely equal ground. Either way, everyone has the same FOV slider so nobody can gain an advantage. There is no actual benefit to having third person other than the godly advantage that it gives you. I'd be fine with them adding choppers if they give us the tools to make our camps look like part of the forest or where ever you decide to build it. It'd take loads of work but it can be done. As of now, choppers aren't beneficial to the mod. They just take a lot of the fun out of having a camp.
-
I've also had loads of fun with the choppers, I just don't think they're beneficial to the game as a whole. They make a few good experiences but overall they just destroy the gameplay. IF camps can be so well hidden / camouflaged that they aren't easily spotted from a low flying chopper scanning the forests with a fine tooth comb, then I'm fine with having them added. As of the start of the mod helicopters have made camps almost completely pointless. They would have to add in a lot of very in-depth items which allow you to re-color or cover up vehicles and tents/bases. Otherwise adding choppers would just mean everyday your camp is raided and all your items are gone... unless you're the one with the chopper.
-
No, having it in-game is what breaks the game. There shouldn't be third person because that is the better choice. Nobody should have an advantage over anyone else and that's all third person really gives people. There is no actual need to have third person and not having it makes a more balanced game for everyone.
-
This isn't a solution for the problem.
