    The PvP Discussion Thread

This isn't a game. It's a mod. As for being pvp-centric, maybe Rocket should take a look at the demographic of players, and see that there are quite a few people that would rather /not/ have to constantly watch out for someone with a bandit skin. If that gets removed, then the game will really become pvp-centric, because nobody will trust anyone else, and there will be no consequences for just shooting on sight. If that's the kind of zombie mod Rocket wants to make, then yeah, this isn't for me at all.

    Should we scrap bandit models?

That invites "popularity" votes where just because someone isn't liked by a few people, their score could drop even if they do nothing. As for those going on about realism: ARMA is a /game/. GAME. Do you know what a game is? Do you also know that real-life is nothing like the simulation ARMA is? There aren't helpful green icons that pop up when you aim your gun at an ally, and you can't just pull out your amazingly accurate map that has your position marked at all times. DayZ doesn't need to be a full-on simulation in regards to banditry, because if it was, nobody would have any reason to ever do anything but shoot anyone not in their clan/group of friends. That just turns the entire game into team deathmatch, or for the unlucky folks without people they can trust while playing, a one-sided crapper of a mod where you go around killing zombies for a bit, then get shot in the head by some asshole who wants the starting gear you have.

    The PvP Discussion Thread

This. So much. Maybe if the devs saw the way those in favor of hardcore PvP treat the subject (With an elitist attitude that makes them seem like major jerks even outside of the game) they'd think a bit differently about how to tackle the issue. There's obviously a divide in the community, and going fully in one way or the other will only drive away a big group of people. I know server capacity is the biggest issue right now for the dev, but christ, some of the guys talking about how they love pvp, and will "kill another p" for anyone that is against pvp, it makes me sick.

    Should we scrap bandit models?

If you remove the bandit skins, do /something/ to ensure that people that have statistics pointing to lots of player-killing have some sort of flag on them. Killers might not "dress up as a killer" but they would be known for running around murdering a bunch of people. The "they can't say anything" argument is out the window, since death is not permanent in this mod. In fact, there should be a separate stat for how many bandits you've killed, so there would essentially be "peacekeepers" as well as bandits. A peacekeeper would be someone survivors could trust a lot more than a bandit, probably, and bandits would know to either stay away or try to pick them off from a distance, instead of being scumbags and pretending they're not inhuman monsters.

The Official Unofficial Bandit Removal Petition

Loot. 'Yay!' Such a terrible terrible repercussion. (not) Then in fact you are a bandit-murderer. Put it this way' date=' the bandit system is telling us, the people who will not kill another human without exploring other options, that we can't trust you because you are a dick who likes confrontation. It helps us by warning us about your past actions. Oh helping people in chat... so selfless! I implanted a (judged) in there to make it make more sense, correct me if I was wrong. Let me say something, to everyone as well, the bandit system puts you on the back foot because of your past actions! Why do you think you can murder five people and then want to be accepted in my group of survivors whom have only helped others and avoided conflict when possible?? You want it both ways. You want to be able to kill people when it conviences you... but you don't want to be judged by others when it inconviences you. Heres the deal... you are being judged by your actions in the past not the actions in the potential future. Suck it up. Your a grown man with a big gun, go kill more people and make it alllll better. Because you've already killed people! Its making you play the role you decided. Its the mark of Cain! You are not forgiven just because the other guy can't tell his story. Then you are encapsulating the cycle of violence you only started yourself. You say: "Oh look that guy has a good weapon I want it." *shoots* Then when another guy looks at you and sees that you have been known to cold blooded kill a guy for his loot and pops you you cry "UNFAIR!!!!". I laugh at how weak you really are. You really encapsulate the bandit mentality. Thank you. Just...thank you for that post. It's exactly what I wanted to say, but worded in a much more polite manner than I could spare for bandits.

Fix survivor whining in next patch

Yeah, I can see being scared shitless for a few seconds, but once you know what's after you, and you realize that you're just attracting more of them, which anyone but a teenager or younger would, pretty darn quick, it throws the immersion way out. Maybe have a mental stability score that goes down if you keep getting attacked by hordes, with a gradual raise in the amount of anguish your character emotes?

    The PvP Discussion Thread

I'm really getting tired of PvP. If there were servers that explicitly forbid PKing, I'd play on those, but as it is, I refuse to even play this mod solo, because there's inevitably going to be some stupid kid that gets a kick out of shooting an unaware person in the back of the head to steal their starting gear. It's funny that nobody points out what that says about the psyche of the person doing it. If your immediate reaction to being placed in a free-roam environment where you have no real-world consequences is to just start killing everyone you see, to take their stuff, you're not a human. You're a psychopath, and should seek some professional help.

    MERGED: Gamma & Brightness

You...can't force people to use certain settings, since, as has been stated numerous times, it's different for everyone. If it bothers you that much that people will abuse their monitors and graphics settings to see you better, either don't PK, and thus be a bandit, aka a target for everyone that doesn't like PKers, or...yeah that's really the only option. I don't do it myself, because the idea of making the game look like crap to get an advantage is silly to me, oh, and I also don't PK, because I prefer to be human, not a murderer.
