Pointing Animation And Focus at Point

Use a voice program. Coordination is everything. The ability to single out a target North 25 degrees east, just to the left of the power pole, is much more satisfactory then getting "insta-locked-on" due to an ingame function. Im not against pointing or gesturing animations, but using them to lock-on to their view is a bit unneccessary and unreal imo. Just use the items given to you to locate a target.

    The Hatchet vs Crowbar Dilemma

It just needs a damage buff to be on par with the hatchet. However the hatchet is still more useful due to the fact its a useful utility item as well (chopping wood). Just for you to know, the melee weapons are an extreme placeholder atm. They still "fire" bullets, just at short range, only hit where your crosshair is aiming, require reloading, have dodgy running animations, and more! When they get fixed up in a standalone, it will be better, as i hope it will have more of an "arc" of damage, such as in Team Fortress 2. Instead of a straight line fire like a gun.

Suggestion: Make a new sub forum for tutorials.

Submitting a video may be unneccessary load on their servers. However the way they have it now, with New Players Discussion being the home of tutorials, does KIIINNNDDDA work. I do agree they need to separate it out, put a tutorials or help section inside new players discussion, to separate the guys simply saying "Hey, i just got eaten!" to the guy going "What key makes me crawl?". + 1 Beans for separated tutorials

Im scared... but not of the Zombies

More zombies to create hordes upon your decision to fire... yes. That creates more consequence of choice. Is shooting this zombie really going to help me, or make things worse? Is that player worth shooting for me to get horded. Special infected are something that should not be added to this game. The horror in this game is the psychological realism. The stress when you come across a player is like no other game. The zombies are just the thing to make items a bit of a struggle to get, and so your bullets aren't just endless to kill players with. Hell if you wanna play this game like a real zombie apocalypse, get your axe, get your knife. Get your water bottle, and live in the woods, away from the zombies, killing animals and refilling your water for days on end. I know ive done this, and only occassionally raided towns for extra food or ammunition. Its great that you choose how to play. If your careless, zombies can beat you, but really, for any experienced player they are an ease to deal with (aside from glitches). TL;DR More zombies will make city raids a more interesting ordeal, with decisions having greater changes in your situation.

Make Z kills and P kills public

How would you know it was him? If your playing on a nametag server then you should hop on a Veteran server aha. Idk about this idea. I don't even like the idea of a scoreboard based off "kills" to be what we rank a server on. What about the guy thats been alive for 3 days playing time, and has ran into Cherno on numerous occassions, risking his life to blood bag fellow survivors. Right now, i can get to the top of a leaderboard by simply training zombies. Theres no respect there, its just a tally for your kills. So without rambling about what i think the scoreboard should be, i don't think player kills should be announced to the server. Its another way to separate players by their chosen style. Its the same problem as bandit skins, your targetting PvP'ers to be notified to others as a threat, before they even have the interaction. For personal scoreboards, yes, but it already does that.

    NPC's in military areas

PvP over PvE in this game. You kill NPCs (which are the zombies btdubs). Doing so is an act to get items, to further yourself. That you can then choose to use to kill or help other survivors. Really we just need more tools in construction, and team building then more NPC's to exploit. Plus i rather the idea of being lone survivors, i kinda RP that we get washed up on the shore from a shipwreck or something out to sea (that id really like to be a kinda looting zone, a bit off the coast so its along swim, but good to travel to by boat). Chernarus has already been overrun by the infection, you just kinda got thrown into it, and are now trying to survive. I don't think, from the way things look, the military lasted long. All the camps you go to soldiers are dead on the floor, their "secure" positions overrun by zombies. Anyway, by all means im not completely against NPC's or different types of threats being in the game. I don't see it as important, or something id find more fun, just something else to counter. Shooting them at a distance would probably be the exploit, whereas zombies is just keep running, or horde to a building then kill. Roaming wilderness zombies is what i'd rather, running through a forest is literally as easy as watching TV holding W atm.

    Potential commercialisation model

Pay for lives? I dont think you thought this through. Sure you can get the same experience, but the amount of rage that would create upon death, by hacks, scripts, any other bullshit that may not be sorted, and just annoying players. It just can't work, even if it was 1c per life, id rather buy $60 for a game, then pay some shitty run off of a subscription model. Oh btw, don't buy games from retail. The internet exists, i purchase all my games from overseas, (if they are console, otherwise steam sales all the way). I buy from the UK, full price brand new games (like MW3 and whatever else) never exceed $60 for the standard version.

    Why we need smart Zombies.

Your missing the 2 sided coin as well. If i can't predict loot spawns, have barely anything, and zombies are harder then ever. How is that gonna make me not want to put 1 winchestor bullet in the head of the guy looting that tin can, and steal all his work? PvP is as it is, and really won't change much, and shouldn't. Rocket should simply add more ability to team up, more things to work for towards end game, and sort of building society and such. Making the game harder in the PvE and looting aspect, won't necessarily stop KoS, or make the game any more enjoyable or simulated. However, upon full release, and standalone, a "Minecraft similar" hardcore mode would be awesome. Just as difficulty is now, but hardcore takes away all starting items, gives you less health, faster hunger and thirst rates, less spawns etc. Id like to see that as a mode, but not to replace the current style.
  9. Hey guys. I recently hopped home servers after some run in with possible hackers (not accusing, was just a very suspicious situation). We decided to change servers and make a new camp. On this new server, AU18, which hasn't been around for more then a week, at least on my server lists, the admin seems to be up to some funny stuff. Not only are the zombies performing badly (being frozen, theres over 700 zombies in game, along with 50 players, which i find strangely high), and items not spawning correctly, but im constantly paranoid when the admin, or atleast a hacker who has seemed to make himself look like the admin, talks over global chat. Now the server says as you log in "Do not believe anyone saying they are the admin, I will never reveal myself". But the player currently named "A Zombie" in the game, has 'admin' written next to his ping in the lobby, and is able to talk on a global chat, when no one else can. Is this ABUSE of power? Or is it a hacker pretending to be an admin? I honestly got very scared when i first heard the voice, thinking someone was in direct near my newly found Ute. Thanks, Revenge
  10. Don't really agree with your idea. Campfires are for cooking, not for logout stations. DC'ing and moving around needs to be fixed, and is be. This is not the solution for it. As for this "buddy" system. I don't agree with it either. I do agree you deserve a way to recognise friendlies that you have met before, but being able to teleport across maps to your friends isn't the best of ideas. /thread

AU18 Admin Abusing use of the Global Chat

Sorry. By global chat i don't mean the red font that is normally just alerts or serverside messages. I mean the blue one, side chat i believe? That used to be in the game but was removed. He was talking in that to what seemed our entire "team", Bluefor. And it was kinda annoying, as he was saying stuff to kinda suggest he was nearby, probably freaking out more then just me aha. I want my ute dammit!
  12. Its not very optimised, and the lag is caused by loading in the map, and the 1000s of items / AI every time your in game. Its really just in need of optimisation, and theres very little you can do other then lower your settings. And of course upgrade your computer, your running a pretty old GPU from my knowledge. Im only running a year old computer, its not a fantastic build either, and i struggle with around 30 FPS. Its playable, not very smooth, but playable.

    Horses.

How could you not be able to feed a horse... it eats hay. that shit is everywhere, and next best, let it stop and nibble some grass while u shoot some zeds. not a bad idea, nothing necessary as its not actually in ARMA, so it would take a long time to incorporate. i assume it wouldn't be much better than a bicycle, but requiring much more management. i see this as a mod ontop of DayZ maybe, as a kinda lolz (like Minecraft in l4d or skyrim). Nothing game changing, nothing necessary, but 1 in 10 players want the ability to shoot a guy and ride off into the night on their super loud, easy to stop horse. + 1 beans for the catching introduction aha.

    CryEngine 3 - Possible?

Some people seem to know what they are doing and talking about. Group together, and get working on this, only then can you say it will or will not work, and show up the opposing side.

    CryEngine 3 - Possible?

I would love to see DayZ done well in CryEngine3. However i think these would be the reasons Rocket won't change engines Cost. Using a different engine will require Rocket and his team to lose profits towards the engine creator. Whereas, where he currently stands with Bohemia, he quite possibly may get permission to use the engine without cost (as he has generated so many sales for them, and its win win in their situation). Time. It will take a lot more time to change the game to a different engine. However much i am sitting here dreaming of setting up my tent and raiding the town on the coast shown in these demonstrations, im afraid it won't really happen. It will take a LOT of time, and require a lot more work then Rocket has even put in to get DayZ into alpha with ArmA2. Also with the upcoming ArmA3 engine, with new physics and graphics, and an already working DayZ mod on it, theres not much gain for Rocket to change engines. Feel. I do think it is possible to recreate the feel DayZ has atm, in a different engine. In my opinion the main feel comes directly from the hardcore style player interactions. Theres no "go here to trade with people". Your always stressed, paranoid, and expecting to run into other survivors / vehicles, and when you finally do, your shocked, overjoyed, and scared all at the same time. That is primarily due to the raw nature of the game, and is recreatable, it is not the ArmA engine creating this, its the mods style, and the community. However much we, and I, would love to see this game make full use of the beautiful CryEngine (that DOES run better then the RV engine), im afraid it won't happen by Rocket's team. The only hope we have is a 3rd party creating a 'DayZ Clone' or us as a community getting permission of Rocket to create this ourselves. Without that dedication from the community, your gonna have to bite your lip and stick through the flaws RV has. TL;DR I would love to see DayZ in the CryEngine, though due to numerous reasons for Rocket and his team, it most likely will not happen. The only chance of it happening is if the community or another game developer creates a 'DayZ clone' with or without the permission of Rocket.

    [Admin] Spectate mode

i wanted spectate purely for video purpose. I see so much potential in DayZ for online series, and web series and such. But without the tools to do it (private servers with no saving, spectator mode, and much more) we can't do much but gameplay stuff. What if i wanted to do a full-on cinematic video of a fly in to NWA, a loot run, where u run into a bandit and have a faceoff, and then u fly back out. That would make a very awesome video, if it could be filmed from a spectate camera, and all the items and vehicles just spawned in for the purpose of the video. In that sense i am for spectating, and private servers (that dont save characters). But for this purpose, it will not work in DayZ, and they should focus more on protecting script injection in the stand alone instead of reporting mechanics that can be abused.
  18. True. I do agree that the stats shouldn't be automatically shown, the only one i think should be is maybe the date of the first page is when they sarted the character (time, date etc.) and then the last page is the date and time they were killed. That way you can know how long they have had the character for, in a realistic journal way, even if they don't make an entry. However if someone decided to make a kind of score system of their own in their journal about how many zombie kills they had, then the player could see that. If they didn't then they don't see it. However i can see why people would want all these stats so that they could realise how mean/nice this player was, how many times they'd been shot, how much blood they had lost/healed, and much more. Provides a good basis, but its not following in the authentic system this game tries to.

Consequences of player killing - a new direction!

Players decisions shouldn't, and never will, give them a disadvantage over other players. i like the idea of non-horror hallucinations as said previously due to low food and water (low health in other words). But raising possibility due to murder is punishment. I read the OP, and it does say if u murder it would increase. So to the OP, it IS punishing. Not harshly, but still punishing. Plus DayZ is not a horror game. Its a social experiment. The stress, tension and fear of the game comes from other players. Not sudden ghosts appearing and whispering at you. But punishing low health (food/water) by making u see things that arent there, like a helicopter off in the distance, that as u get a bit closer vanishes. It toys with you, tricks you. And is simply a repercussion of you not eating and drinking correctly. Plus it happens in real world, when your working this hard, and aren't eating/drinking properly. YOU WILL HALLUCINATE. But hallucinations show you good things, then cut you down when u find out they dont exist. It doesn't make big black ghosts go BOO infront of you (exaggerated i know).
  20. Matches are a relatively common spawn. Supermarkets have them all the time, and they can spawn out of the cities, so you dont HAVE to risk going into a city to find them. You shouldn't really have left the city to go and survive in the wild without the necesities anyway (canteen, knife, matches, hatchet, and any other navigating tools you can find). It isn't a game flaw, if you choose to survive by yourself, be smart and leave to survive with the correct gear.
  21. OP did say that writing in your own journal would be possible. However the idea of tearing out your pages would be awesome! It gives the idea of traps even more, a lone bandit could make false stories, or instructions, to lead a lone survivor or even a group into an ambush point. And at the same time a survivor could leave his tale on a tree before devil's castle, warning others of the lone gunman on in the keep.

    [Idea] Orienteering

Already in the game. GPS tells you your exact grid reference. For players on Veteran servers, using that, alongside a compass allows you to easily locate yourself on a map using common geography knowledge.
  23. Bump, wanna see some more opinions here :)
  24. Seems we have like minded opinions. I don't mind the idea of having to take "rests". But i don't agree that sitting down should increase blood regeneration. Sleeping is a possibility, perhaps you can go to sleep while logged out of the game and your blood will continue to regenerate for say 2 hours then you are logged out with full health. Risk? You can be shot while doing this. Problem? How will servers keep characters logged in after you log out, without 'reserving' that player spot. Resting is also currently, *kind of* in the game already. If you run for a while, you breath heavily, and your crosshair sways. If you stop and sit down for a bit, you catch your breath. I think thats really enough of a "resting" situation that we currently need. However passive regen while your food and water levels are at good indicators (green), is good, and realistic. Only thing it would come down to is the amount. You wouldn't want it to only take < 1 hour of game time like food and water, because that would almost entirely (for me at least) remove the need to go mass animal hunting, or have friends with blood bags. Only time i would use them is if i wanted to chill/camp the NWA or something (which as a survivor, i don't want to do). I pick my raids carefully, and confrontations even more carefully. The rare time i cop a bullet is normally from a well positioned sniper, or a gunman at range (in which case id snipe him, and bug out to a safe area). Now if it took me a "game time" amount of time to regenerate all my health, id just chill around my camp, looting the few buildings nearby maybe. Or just hunting animals and organising my inventory. Possibly even have a dance with my friends, and all of a sudden im full health without wasting supplies. Thats the main reason i stressed it would take a LONG time to regenerate all your blood. It could even be with a negative exponential style system. As your blood (if over 9k or something) gets closer to 12k, regeneration slows. Someone else suggested this, as it is how the human body reacts. Fast recovery from injury, slow recovery to full health. Animals are a lot more common than you may think. And i think making them have "spawn zones" or hot spots is a bad idea. They aren't loot piles, and so shouldn't be hoardable. There are designated spawning zones for them, and for cows especially, thats wide open fields. I know a few places where several cows spawn across the same stretch of open field. If i wanted to be a food bandit, id camp up there and wait for a lone survivor searching for blood.
