Petition to actually DO SOMETHING about hackers/scripters
xDIx Revenge replied to sparta436's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Preventing hackers is planned, and will happen, WHEN ROCKET GOES STANDALONE. He cannot alter the source or engine of ArmA. Thats Bohemia's Intellectual Property. Until he gains the rights to work on this and use their engine to make the game standalone instead of a mod, hackers will be here. Anti-Cheat scripts can only stop so much with such an easily moddable game like ArmA. Be patient, and put up with dealing with hackers on your servers, or shutdown your server, and play on others. Your lending your resources to the community, if its too hard, we don't expect you to continue. Also i do recall Rocket stating several fixes coming that include server logs and BattleEye detecting when players X and Y coordinates change drastically, when incorrect item ID's turn up etc. There are measures being made, but only to a degree. Hackers in an open engine on an alpha mod HAVE to be expected, and just put up with. Consider those 100 bombs a stress test on your server. -
Server Notation for Character Names and Map Use
xDIx Revenge replied to cragzeek's topic in New Player Discussion
Recruit = "heat" dots on zombies, vehicles and even nearby players. Also all shown in regular below. Regular and below = Location shown on maps, along with unidentified players and seen vehicles nearby. Crosshairs and name tags will be on, along with 3rd Person. Veteran = none of above, unless specified by the server. Expert = no 3rd person, no crosshair, no map location, no name tags. Pretty much hardcore mode. Certain servers will say what they have enabled. Otherwise just look at the difficulty. If you want name tags and crosshairs, play on regular. If you want annoying white dots, play recruit. Just some acronyms for you to help: 3DP = 3rd Person CH = Crosshair NT = Nametags (you barely see this anymore) Look for those being "on" in server names if you want them in veteran or expert servers. -
How to make DayZ players more compassionate. (A fool-proof plan)
xDIx Revenge replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Just make it so that if your a coast hunter you get perm-banned from the game. Problems solved :D (i am joking) -
Alpha. If you get killed by a hacker, change servers. Dont QQ about it, nothing will change till Rocket can make this standalone.

[QQ] My Thoughts On Hackers!
xDIx Revenge replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If you don't like its current state, leave and come back for standalone. Alpha mod on a Beta engine that is known for being moddable will have its hackers, and bugs. Deal with them, and just continue testing, or wait for a playable game. -
There is empty forests for miles already, its the edge of the map for a reason. /thread.

I already have a raging beard thanks to the player editor :) /thread.

[QQ] My Thoughts On Hackers!
xDIx Revenge replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hackers aren't preventable until the game becomes standalone. Period. They cannot edit the source, and RV will always remain easy to hack as that is how it thrives, it allows the community to make mods just like this one. Until Rocket gets Bohemia to allow him to edit the source and engine of ArmA3's RV engine, than hackers will remain. He says its easy to block them out after that, but im sure cheaters will still always be around, just in less numbers. -
I think you will find it is an arc of damage. You can "swing" your melee weapon and turn into someone who isn't in your crosshairs and it will do damage. Right now swinging your weapon in DayZ fires a bullet at your crosshairs. Personally i think they should implement a system (when Standalone with ragdoll etc comes in), where you knock infected down with your melee weapons if you hit them in the chest, or decapitate them if you hit them in the head. Similar to L4D style melee.

No item respawn/despawn + sleep [Standalone] [Future mechanics] [Dreams]
xDIx Revenge replied to ENSLAVER's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
That sounds more likely to incorporate. Game modes are a sure fire way to introduce this concept without ruining stuff. -
How about organizing yourselves instead of demanding a mechanic that does the work for you?

Put dev time into standalone rather than Arma II. [Rocket] [Future standalone] [Arma II Limitations]
xDIx Revenge replied to ENSLAVER's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
RV is the engine name all the ArmA's run on. ArmA3 will run the next line of the engine yes. Better physics, better graphics, better optimisation is the first of what ive heard from it. -
I have matches, I have a jerry can.

Underground Bases? Opens a whole new World of possibilities...
xDIx Revenge replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
True, i didn't think that the radiation was the reasoning aha, kind of missed that part out aha. Inhabiting the cities and such would be nice, but as the zombie respawns work now that would be unsafe. Whereas underground would dampen sounds, increase safe travel, and avoid any contamination caused by the infection (RP wise). Though its not necessary, i would love to see subway stations in a future map or something, it would be quite atmospheric. -
Hey Guys I have been searching the forums and have seen vague posts following this similar idea, mainly to do with spray paints and such. I'd like to just put my 2 cents in, sorry if this is a repost, i couldn't find anything exactly the same as this. Lots of us have played Left 4 Dead, no doubt. Especially seeing the amount of "add special infected" style posts, i can tell people really enjoy that game. I did as well, but i remember one of the things i loved on my first play through, was reading all the graffiti left in the safe houses and such. Some of it was just easter eggs left in by Valve and such, but some of it was also very insightful to a backbone of a story. Now i know if this was implemented it could create some AWESOME personalisation. Right now i feel immersed if i stumble across the firehouse, with a trail of zombies heading up the stairs, towards the lone survivor body. It kind of tells me a story as to what this guy went through. But i can only really get that from seeing dead survivors, or a pile of dead zombies, and it usually just entails "this guy got trigger happy" or "poor thing got overrun, and probably ran out of ammunition". Whereas id love to stumble across temporary hideouts inside cities, or camps out inland with writing from players all over the walls. Telling me tales of when a player broke his leg, and crawled all the way here, taking him nearly an hour, before he stumbled across another survivor who aided him with a shot of morphine. This idea is similar to those of journals or notes, and just adds extra, player made emotions. But it is subject to trolling, and swearing and such. But still, id like to see something of the sort added. I don't have details of "spray cans" or paint to be added to be able to do this. Id love to see what you guys could think of, i just WANT to be able to read about another survivors struggles or triumphs ingame, and not have to read a forum post for it. Discuss :)

Player Made "Left 4 Dead" style Graffiti

That would be awesome! Another element of notorious bandit gangs to over take servers and cities! -
Player Made "Left 4 Dead" style Graffiti
xDIx Revenge replied to xDIx Revenge's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Maybe give me reasons? I see no downside besides the "lol penis's everywhere" problem. And if you make only certain areas it can happen, and a duration on it, that wouldn't be a huge problem. After all you aren't forced to read it, its just some added back story you may get interested in. Same as journals and note, it just adds more immersion and role playing, that other players can stumble across upon following/killing you in your path. Its quite interesting to go in depth about it. But if you don't like it thats fine, just give me some feedback so i can notice my idea's flaws. -
No item respawn/despawn + sleep [Standalone] [Future mechanics] [Dreams]
xDIx Revenge replied to ENSLAVER's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
For no respawns... it won't work. Servers will become dead, and trolling would be ammmaaazzzing. Whats this? I found 1 of the 3 high calibre sniper rifles and some ammunition for it? *Goes and wastes ammo*. Its not necessary, in the same sense you should make it so that when players die they can't access the game anymore, after all, in a zombie apocalypse, you dont get lives right? As for sleeping. I don't MIND the idea of sleeping, but not exactly as you put it. It shouldn't be a state you are FORCED into. It should be something you could do, but i don't know how it would work with servers. Say you choose to 'rest'. You are logged out of the game, but your player body remains ingame (thats the serverside problem right there). You are killable/lootable. But upon return you have extended health, or extra stamina. Something useful to help you out. I don't think it should be something that is forced to players (like hunger or thirst) and it should not be a requirement to log out and sleep. -
Put dev time into standalone rather than Arma II. [Rocket] [Future standalone] [Arma II Limitations]
xDIx Revenge replied to ENSLAVER's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Rocket wants rights to the RV engine from Bohemia so he can edit the source and engine to his liking. Thats when the game becomes standalone. In no way is he avoiding this. BTW adding tags into your title isn't very necessary. /thread. -
Search function. This has been suggested numerous times, and roaming zombies or threats are planned (from my knowledge). I like how everything you wrote was followed by (players are still a threat). Thats the idea of this game. Its a psychological war between you and other survivors. Kill or be killed? Team up and survive together? Those choices make this game the zombie survival. You ARE surviving a zombie apocalypse. Zombies act as an obstacle, similar to jump platforms on something like Mario. They are not the "boss" or main threat, the thing that will end you. But they are the thing that causes problems if put together with other threats. (How much more difficult is it to jump on a small platform [zombie] if there was a goomba on it as well? [player]). It adds levels of difficulties depending on your situation and decisions. IF you run through a town, lure the zombies, only to lure them in a building and lose their aggro. Yes, thats easy. But how do you know you didnt just alert a survivor on the horizon, due to the mass movement you caused in town? Your decisions effect you in every way. We don't need big tough zombies to make that better, we just need to make zombies WORK. And then maybe increase the amount of them to cause greater consequences

Im scared... but not of the Zombies
xDIx Revenge replied to Carl's Sr.'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
No please no. Special infected aren't in the spirit of this mod. This isn't some mutating virus like Resident Evil or anything. Left 4 Dead is a linear shooter, the special infected are the added obstacle to make it interesting and challenging. In DayZ the added challenge is the fact of perma-death, survival needs, and players posing a very huge threat. Zombie numbers just need to increase to make decisions more costly (if you shoot that guy, 30 zombies are gonna be on your ass). But that should not happen until standalone is achieved, Zombie AI and animations are fixed up, and sneaking around is much more plausible. -
Player Made "Left 4 Dead" style Graffiti
xDIx Revenge replied to xDIx Revenge's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I dont necessarily mean imported sprays. Those are made to be comical. But i was more going on about L4D single player campaigns, where you stumble across conversations on the walls, about surviving, fear of death, getting overrun and all that. It adds another element to the atmosphere, and id really love to see something similar in DayZ, im just not 100% on how they could implement it to minimalise trolling / immature writing, and the ability to do it with or without an item etc, and where you could, how long it would last, how much load on a server. All those problems, but still, just a concept, just want to hear some opinions :D -
Pointing Animation And Focus at Point
xDIx Revenge replied to Thortimer's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Gestures would be awesome. Id love to have a set of tools to gesture people towards me, call for them to stop, and move on or look at an area. Im still entirely against a game feature kind of "doing this for you" and right now you can kind of realistically point. If i need to show the direction for team mates without compasses or just the lazy ones (im normally the navigator) i just find the direction on my compass, state that, stand up and point my gun in the direction we are headed. Everyone else points the same way, and we are off. Using my hand would be nice for immersion, but wont change anything. However having the abilit to gesture someone to come towards me could help "enemy" interactions, kind of making gestures to show peace. I do know there is a salute and surrender animation, but they are so dodgy, and pause your player, so you risk dying doing so. Meta-gaming is allowed, Rocket has stated that. Its nothing bad, and infiltration in team-speak servers is allowed as well. I find it awesome, and i wont stop using it until an ingame communication is added (radio's etc.) that actually make team coordination not just a "blah blah here we are" on direct. -
Underground Bases? Opens a whole new World of possibilities...
xDIx Revenge replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I see underground bases as being small holes that kind of just have a light or 2, a few storage places and thats about it. With a very primative style of structure, entrance and more. Maybe a way to store a vehicle inside, with the entrance being as obvious as tents are now. I just see it as a bit of a bigger home then a tent with no accessibility besides items right now. You can walk down in there, where its lit up, and spend some time in the light (which is obscured from above). Rocket also talked about them being instanced, so that they are not server unique. This could create game-wide economies and social structures, to which i say AWESOME. For people who are saying this is not what they saw DayZ as becoming,i ask you to expand on that. Do you not think there would be people willing to rebuild, to reform, and recreate a society that has a working order. And on the other side there are the people who want nothing but self gain, and will slaughter anything and everything in their way. People see the world differently, and would react differently in this scenario. Underground civilisations would be an awesome feature to this game, even something Metro 2033 esque. Abandoned train tunnels being inhabited by players, making trading more usable (no i dont mean i feature, i love it as it is now).Tense situations could still happen, by no means is it some safe haven. You may not like that the guy your trading with wants your M107 for his AKM. This may get bitter, and turn into a firefight/punch up (if melee is introduced as i hope it should be). It would be cool, and useful. It would open up so much of the player interactions that the game is currently missing, without just adding care-bear areas to chill out and afk chat with friends. And at the same time, a single server could entirely ignore the underground tunnels, and the game will continue as normal. Its not something that should be or will be forced, buthaving it as an option will be amazing.
