Hackers stealing files off servers.
KGoBlin replied to danni (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
That's definitely not an exploit then. It sounds like that config should have never ended up in the root directory to begin with if this was already known. You can't blame admins for not knowing something rocket apparently didn't even know at one point. Fortunately our host had the file out of the root directory when we purchased our managed server. I find it interesting that people are liable for so many things in a game where almost everything is restricted. If my config file weren't in the right place, I wouldn't be able to move it even if I wanted to because our host has it locked down so it can't be tampered with, I'm assuming because they're afraid of getting their IP range banned for breaking all the rules set in place. Placing responsibility on the person furthest down on the totem pole seems to be pretty futile. -
Vehicles outside of map get destoryed?
KGoBlin replied to suito's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Debug glitch is still happening for sure. We've had a few people on our server end up there since the last 2 patches. Also have had people spawn back at the ocean instead of where they were on the map. -
Hackers stealing files off servers.

Typically exploits like the one mentioned here are vulnerabilities in the game/server engine itself, not in your actual server environment. AV or firewall might help prevent generic attacks but this one, and most from what I've seen, are just serious security holes either in ARMA or Battleye. A firewall's not going to prevent anything since the attack probably comes in thru the same port the server uses for hosting the game. UNLESS you know your attacker's IP, that's a different story but any hacker that's not a complete idiot can get around that in an instant so that's not even a viable solution either. -
40% OFF SALE | Premium DayZ Server Hosting | Host Altitude (Ltd)
KGoBlin replied to jonnerz's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
In defense of Host Altitude, I've had my share of issues with our server with them, but when it *is* working, it works well. We hardly have any lag and I very rarely see a red chain unless the server is recovering from a reboot. Outside of the extremely slow ticket response times and the two times our server was down for the better part of a day, the service has been more than acceptable while it's up. That being said I won't be renewing my contract with them at the end of the month. I agree with Deadmau5, you guys are definitely overselling if you can't keep up with the support demand of existing servers. If your company can't keep up with demand by being short staffed 1 person, you are in over your head. A 4 hour response time is acceptable (still fairly slow considering other hosts I've been with) but as you said, that's an average. I've had plenty of response times at 8-12 hours. Which can be very frustrating considering most tickets require several responses in order to get the necessary information from your provider. If it's something like your server not being whitelisted, you could be going back and forth for days just to get a few responses. Taper off the amount of service you're offering. If you indeed value quality of service, provide quality of quantity until you can truly support a larger datacenter. I think it's commendable that you're offering refunds to dissatisfied customers. I don't plan on taking you up on the offer as I think that even with the slow response times and down times we got the majority of our money out of our server, it's just frustrating we are yet again on the search for a reputable and reliable DayZ server host. I'm starting to think it doesn't exist outside of purchasing an unmanaged server from someone like Gameservers or NFO. -
There's pretty much a thread for most of the hosts here in the Server General section that's managed by the hosts themselves. There's definitely feedback in all of them so you should be able to get an idea of the type of service you should expect. Speaking from personal experience I highly recommend you read the Defcon thread before choosing them but your mileage may vary.

Is there a way to globally delete the map notes on your server?
-
I meant on a global scale, not just your map. Unless deleting it on your map deletes it from everyone else's, in which case that's mildly retarded.

40% OFF SALE | Premium DayZ Server Hosting | Host Altitude (Ltd)

Ticket has been created about 4 hours ago. I have another ticket that's been pending for about 9.5 hours. Unless you are answering other people's tickets within the first hour, there's no way you can claim an average reponse time of 5 hours. I've looked through my previous tickets and aside from one response, my average response time is anywhere from 8 - 24 hours. My CP is still showing an unknown status. I can't connect via FTP either so my guess is the box or my VM is down. If you could check on this I'd appreciate it. Tickets #171011 and 663228. -

Our server seems to be down and we're getting the infamous "Status: Unknown" message in our CP. Is this due to another outage? -

Is there an ETA on when Host Altitude will have the time changing script ready? -
Hey Host Altitude Admins look here since you don't seem to respond to tickets
KGoBlin replied to SpaceCowboyR's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Agreed, you should at least inform people there is an issue and that you're working on it. Even if you don't have an answer yet, acknowledgement of the issue is better than nothing. Hopefully this will get resolved soon. -

Also anyone else with Host Altitude having issues today or is it just us? Logged into my CP today to check something and noticed status was showing as Unknown and the Activity CP is showing as down. Not sure if there's some sort of unscheduled maintenance going on or if our server just blew up. Put in a ticket, just awaiting a response. -

I don't think the time zone changes are sticking. They seem to reset themselves after a server restart. -
So in other servers I've played on, when you find a map in that server, it shows you your location on the map when you open it up. On our new server, when someone finds a map (I've found several now), we don't get an indicator. Is this a cvar type setting in the config or a bug? Or was I just imagining things in all the other servers I was in prior to my own?
-
You da man Rolle, thanks! Hopefully I can get my host to make that change in the config.

Tell me more of this utopian future you speak of. If it's still connected to the hive, rocket has at least some say in it since it's using his database. I personally don't have any issues with servers doing what they want with their servers but it's gotta be all or nothing. If some do things like this and they're connected to the same database that our server is that is following the rules of the mod and open to everyone, including those players, then that's definitely an issue.

Really good gun. Good for medium and short distances since it's pretty much a 1 shot/kill anywhere on a zombie. It's not bad at long range, just hold down shift when you're scoped in and you'll be able to zoom slight amount. Unfortunately the dot on the scope is fairly large so if something's really far away, there's a good chance you may not hit the part of the body you're aiming for or even miss the target altogether.

Man I can't even change the time on our server and this guy gets to lock his down and screen his players? Awesome. Hopefully a mod will see this soon.

Why BattlEye and not Punkbuster?
KGoBlin replied to NightRipper's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Well that's not what this thread discussion is about, it's about preference of anti-cheat systems. But if you're personally having trouble with a hacker, why don't you just record evidence of him hacking and ban him through BattleEye? If it's solid evidence I doubt rocket or the hosts would ban you if you proactively present evidence against someone that's disrupting gameplay and abusing the system. But if you just suspect the person is hacking because he's killed you, well then that's a different story altogether. I wouldn't ban unless you're absolutely positive and if you're absolutely positive, documenting evidence is easy and doesn't require access to server files. All it takes is a screenshot or a video demo using FRAPS. -
Defcon Servers are making Dayz Look Terrible
KGoBlin replied to worsin's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
If that's what that post was intended for then that's my bad, but my idea of a contribution/donation is very different than a payment. I view this post as server owners/renters asking for contributions/donations to keep their personal servers running not as a post for server hosts asking for payments for you renting their servers. Does that make sense? I'm sure this is just a misunderstanding on my part but typically donations/contributions don't entail getting something in return. That's typically what I would describe as a purchase. Hosts rent you servers. Clans/communities/private server owners ask for donations to keep *their* servers running. You don't get anything from it. That's why it's a donation. Hope that clarifies my POV here. I'm not trying to give you a hard time I'm just saying for us new to DayZ and that haven't been here since it's inception, having a clearly defined and comprehensive sticky for all things server related would help out tremendously. -
Defcon Servers are making Dayz Look Terrible
KGoBlin replied to worsin's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
You may want to have a little sit down with the providers that are hosting DayZ then because they may not outright be claiming to be "official" hosts but there's very particular wording either on these forums or on their website that may trick people into thinking that they are affiliated with the DayZ mod in some way. I actually did have a host tell me they were an "official" provider, but that's neither here nor there. I think the main problem, at least for someone like me who's only been following this mod for about a month or two, is that we don't know any better because there's no official stickied post from a moderator or admin stating this. There are, however, stickies from other unaffiliated community members and more importantly some of these server hosts that ARE stickied, which only seems to reinforce this misconception that there indeed are "official" DayZ hosts. The closest sticky I found related to the subject by a mod team member is this one and it's directed at contributions and donations. -
Excuse my ignorance on this topic as I'm still new to DayZ as a whole, especially the administrative side of things, so I'm still figuring out what things look like. This screenshot shows what I believe to be a server-wide/admin type chat in our server. If so, then there's some sort of security issue because he's not an authorized RCON user of our server. Actually I haven't even given out our BattleEye info yet so I'm not sure how this is possible unless BattleEye defaults to a really insecure password when a DayZ server is first set up. According to the person that took the screenshot, the person left immediately after sending that message. Anyone have any input? Thanks in advance!

Perfect, thanks for the input and clarification!

Don't ever get a server through Defconservers.com
KGoBlin replied to Kenji (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I don't think anyone should be necessarily bashing server hosts but you should definitely make the DayZ community aware of bad practices. Fairly certain that you're either not a server admin or you are happy with your server host. In which case, great! But the first or next time you get the kind of treatment that some of these other people (including myself) are getting, you'll probably change your tune a bit. For the most part people here are just telling their experiences with certain hosts. It's unfortunate that it portrays some companies in a poor way but thems the breaks. If these hosts would start acting more professionally and stop taking advantage of a community that they know they can exploit because of the game's current state or because of the target audience, you won't see threads like these. The one positive thing I will say about all these hosts is that they are selling ARMA2 slots for far cheaper than all the established game hosts (i.e. Gameservers) are. ARMA2 servers require a TON of resources as everyone knows, so kudos to them for making DayZ an affordable game to host. That doesn't give them the right to treat customers like this though. It reflects poorly on the game itself, considering it's such a tight knit group. Alternatively it can be said that without DayZ, I'm pretty positive these hosts would have MUCH less business than they do now, so it's not all charity on their part.
