Completely agree with OP. Even without hacking or duping, firearms are still too common in DayZ. Personally I'd like to see a couple more melee weapons and low-end firearms and a little less high-end firearms. -
Because once people get sniper rifles and/or rangefinders, all they do is camping in the woods outside of high population areas and snipe people. (I know most of the people I know did it, so did I for a brief period of time). At this point you are so far away from the zeds and you don't feel that this is a zombie appcalypse survival game at all. It's more like a sniping game with "zombie: the human detector" game. Please consider getting rid of all the sniper rifles so everyone will need to get their hands dirty in some real zombie action. TL;DR: Dayz shouldn't be a "Sniper Elite multiplayer with zombies in the distance as decorations". AND NO, I'm not the "snipee", this is your bored sniper speaking. EDIT: I made the title of OP a bit extreme to raise attention, but I can settle with having less powerful snipers, less sniper and their ammo spawns, and fix the ammo bug.

You are speaking for the receiving end of the sniping. What about the snipers? What poses a threat to them? Other snipers? Giving the map size and server population, the chance of a well hidden sniper being picked off by other sniper is extremely low. A game needs constant challenge, but the current route of most players are survive,get gears, run out of stuff to do, and quit. There should be PVP but the game should not just limit itself to just PVP or just plain shooting type of PVP.

Maybe I should change the title to "remove powerful snipers and other rifles", half of the people just think I'm butthurt of being sniped too much without actually reading. LOL

Unless there are more type of threats other than our regular running,crowling,hopping zombies which only spawn when players are close to towns, farms, then YES, most of sniper rifles and some of the automatic rifles are quite an empowerment. They are not so much of an empowerment in for example L4D because in there you can't stay safely away from the zombie threat and they have a significant amount of zombies come at you constantly + special ones.

So basically before sniper existed. Tactics didn't exist either. If you can't cover your teamates from 400m+ with a huge scope, you can't cover them at all against a group of people using short-ranged weapons. Is that what you're saying?

Again, I'm not crying because I got sniped by snipers in the woods. I have died at most once from that. All I'm saying is what drseptapus have explained very well in the above post: empowering players too much in a horror game is a bad idea. Amenesia is a great example of disempowering(is that word?) player in a horror game, and it works. Although maybe too extreme (for people who haven't played it, this game doesn't give you any means to fight your enemies), but it DOES make the game more scary, intensive, and adrenaline-pumping than most of action/horror game out there. I love DayZ so I come to the suggestion board to express my idea. I'm not here to troll or whine. I could very much do that in the general forum. Whoever else loves DayZ should realize that before coming in here and insult (not targeted at the quoted poster btw).

Call of Cathulu which was used an example in the above video is a thrilling game despite of horrible graphics and physics(if any) because of limitaion of power.

Tell me what would I raid for when all of my buddies have NVG, AS50, Ghillie Suit, and whatnot?

Law enforcement with just players is not feasible in game. People have real life to worry about, and sabotaging is always easier than constructing. People need tools to rebuild cities, fortifications, and need AI to guard said settlements 24/7.

On the other hand, if somebody wants to re-establish order and society, he can't. The game lacks in tools to support that. Bandits, they only need bigger, badder guns. There are plenty. So eventually people are still forced down one route: Be a bandit.

I'm not telling Rocket what this game should be. I'm just stating what this game has become. You think you would have all the choices in the world, but in the end all the choices are forced into one.

To "The sniper exists" arguement, Nuke also exists. Why can't we have that in this game? You can't put whatever exists in real life directly into a game. A game needs some sort of balance. A game needs to bend the reality for game design purpose. Most importantly a game should stay FUN. I'm just bored to hell with this sniping endgame that's all. For those who disagree, suggest something else instead please.

How many kills others because they are inneed of supplies? I doubt it. I seriously doubt it. 90% of bandits kill people just because they are bored and have nothing else to do. You can take my word for it.

Then what makes DayZ, ummm, DayZ? It might as well be renamed to DayS? S stands for both sniping and surviving?

Amen to that brother. With uber powerful weapons Dayz just becomes a military sim with zombies as background.
