  1. Thanks for the feedback on this you guys, I appreciate it. It's always interesting to get the outside perspective on these scenarios and I'm glad to see my actions as having been deemed appropriate by fellow survivors. Interesting idea, Scribe. I'll definitely take a look at some Russian phrases just in case. This is a Survivors Forum. If I wanted to report bugs and glitches then I'd take it to the bug forum. Furthermore, player narratives giving detailed scenarios, atmosphere and environments are just as important than any glitches or bugs.
  2. I spawned in for a quick session before I took care of a few errands for the day and I find myself right where I should be. I'm at the North hill of Stary Sobor with my M16A4 ACOG rifle and I'm ready to do some scavenging around the Military Tents for supplies. However, within a few seconds of spawning in I hear gunshots down in Stary, just south of the military tents. I took a quick scan of the town through my scope but I was unable to find the source of the noise and so after a few moments I elect to rummage through the tents despite the potential danger. A few minutes later I find myself looking through the tents when I hear more gunshots of the same kind near my position but the source is nowhere within my visual range. So, I start broadcasting on Direct Comms "Whoever's firing in Stary Sobor, are you friendly?" "If you are in Stary Sobor, acknowledge me," Alas, no reply. I take a look through another tent but a crawler hears me and I find myself having to dispatch him with a round from my G17 before running back to the North Hill. I go prone, whip out my M16A4 ACOG and then I spot him. A survivor with aviator glasses dragging a couple of zombies to the tents. I noticed that he was carrying a pistol with what appeared to be an M16 ACOG with an M203 strapped to his back. He takes out the zombies himself before I can help him out and so I moved down the hill as subtly as possible before broadcasting once again "You down there at the tents with the M16, are you friendly?" Again, no reply. I even left a text message of the above in the Direct Comms chat but even that went unacknowledged and, so I reasoned that this man must thereby be a Bandit and so, he has got to go. I wait for him to run out of one tent and to another in a South to North direction before planting a round low in his back on the left side where the lung ends. He continues his run into the tent but moves on down the line to the West side of the military tents before hiding in one of the tents with the doorway facing me. Big mistake. I shuffle over gently but so much so that I am now out in the open and out of the woods. However, I'm no fool. I shuffle over just enough so that I can see a bit of his right arm and I manage to hit him again. He's bleeding badly now and he knows he's in trouble. He decides to throw a smoke grenade but it's of no help to him as it's a green smoke and therefore it doesn't create the plume of smoke that would best conceal his location. It does draw a few zombies to the green smoke and one of them gets even more interested in my gunfire as I plant three rounds in the tent to keep him suppressed but the zombie is quickly put down with a burst to its chest. I turn back to the tent and looking through my scope I can see that my target is popping off a few rounds while looking through the scope of his M16. Now I can only figure In for a penny, in for a pound. Strangely, I'm not panicked by this returning volley and so I calmly fire one final round into his face. He hits the ALT+F4 function after hitting the ground and his body disappears but that's when I noticed my murder count go up. Not my Bandit Kill Count. I feel justified by my actions and thrilled by the fact that someone had the gall to shoot back at me but I don't consider myself a band it. I did my best to open up a line of communications with this guy and I received no answer. This made me believe he was a threat to other survivors and so I dispatched him myself, but what do you think? Was I in the wrong? Was there anything else I could have done to try to team up with this player? Or am I only trying to justify my position in this simulation of a survivor's Heart of Darkness? TL;DR? I killed a guy who failed to respond to my requests to identify as friend or foe. Turned out he wasn't an official bandit. Was I still right to shoot him?

DayZ: Camp Raid, and Satchel Charge (2:19)

That was amazing and just brilliant! Great job, you deserve all the beans in DayZ. Quick question though, where on earth in Chernarus did you find a Satchel Charge?

    [Temp. Closed] DayZ Walking Militia

Profile Name: Fox Player ID (Not SteamID): 5238662 Why do you wish to join the Militia: I think DayZ is best played with a purpose in mind and I can't think of a better purpose than to help your fellow man through the zombie apocalypse. Whether it be through giving supplies, hunting bandits or escorting them to their destination. What can you offer the Militia: I'm well rehearsed on the in-game survival mechanics so I can fend for myself and can thereby be Johnny On The Spot with supplies. I'm not a bad rifleman either. Basically I'm up for whatever task you're willing to throw at me. Are you a team player: Very much so, but I can handle going at it alone if need be. Are you willing to lose your gear if required: If it helps another survivor, sure. Although, I'm on 72 Days of Surviving at the moment so I'd be mad if "Lose Your Gear" was code for "We Have To Kill You For Your Stuff". Have you been with any other groups, and if so state which: No, I've played with a couple of other players one or two times but not under a clan/squad of any kind. Extra Information: I'm playing from Victoria, Australia but I've never had any server/connection issues with American servers. That said, I hope you're not looking to keep your squad as regional as possible.

Great video and nice job taking down those hackers! I certainly liked your commentary, it was a nice touch to fill in moment where nothing was happening and it just added to the moment.

    What makes you play DayZ?

Oh, don't apologise at all, I appreciate the detailed response!

    I found a Radio

That's pretty damn interesting. I had made a trek up to Green Mountain a few days ago after noticing the comm tower in the distance, it was during the day and I didn't find much of interest aside from killing field that is a mass grave in the compound. I killed a few of the zombies but none of them dropped anything of any use and so I just left. I disconnected east of the tower in the forest and when I reconnected I died spontaneously before respawning on top of my body. It was weird. Also, did anyone else hear the grid coordinates on the radio and immediately think of Hurley from LOST? ie The Numbers Are Bad! Although I particularly loved how the piano riff at the end of the transmission was from

    ~{SoH}~ Takes Cherno (1.5hr VIDEO)

I do like the concept of taking back towns and cities in DayZ. I personally would love to see this kind of hold-out situation where survivors take over a city, turn it into a haven and thereafter have to hold it for as long as possible from hordes attracted to the noise from neighbouring towns. Nice job!
  11. I've been playing DayZ for a little while now and these days I find myself doing particularly well. I could do better but my character has survived for a long amount of time, I have a Winchester Rifle with sufficient ammunition and a Colt 1911. Not to mention I know where to look for water sources and I can now hunt my own food. I know it's nothing particularly special but now that I've reached this level where I can sustain myself in game I find myself a little stuck. What is there left to do? I've survived a few encounters with other players, I've done some things I wish I could take back (yes, I play as a survivor, that explains the modest gear) but while wandering through the woods near Mogilevka I found myself asking. "Now What?" Sure, I don't have a car, helicopter or a camp or even nightvision goggles but those material items aren't really enough to make me go on a mission. So this begs the question: What makes you continue to play DayZ when you have all you need to survive? What rewards make you come back to fight for? What honestly stops you from reaching this point and saying "Fuck it, I'll hunt other people."

Beta Patch exe not picking up on DayZ Files?

-mod=@DayZ is what I had originally and it completely failed. I'll give it a shot now though... Nope, now I can't even Join the server. Edit: This has also caused all Australian servers (all of which would have the lowest ping for me) to be pushed far down the latency list due to them not being compatible.
  14. First off, I have ARMA 2 and OA on Steam. I haven't been able to get the game running with the appropriate launch parameters through Steam so I stuck to using the ARMA 2 OA Beta Executable to get into the game. I had no problems with this until the latest update for the beta patch (94997) where I found myself stuck on the "Wait For Host" message whenever I joined a server. So I downgraded back to 94786 and now I can get into the lobby of most servers before I kicked out because "the server relies on content that has been deleted" and it proceeds to list all of the DayZ files needed to run the game. Only, the thing is that I have all the files: In the top right corner of the menu when I run the Beta Patch executable, it doesn't read "@dayz" beneath everything else. Any hints?
