  1. If you were trolling, then no, no problem. If you were serious, yes, problem. Big problem of you being a hugely misinformed idiot and since you follow a question mark with a full stop, I'd say that's a justified conclusion.
  2. What the fuck do you expect? Jesus christ. When an update happens, IT DELETES THE ALREADY EXISTING FILES AND REPLACES THEM WITH NEW ONES. Stop the update halfway through? You moron. Of course it will break the game! You only have half the required files that it WAS TRYING TO UPDATE WITHOUT YOUR INTERFERENCE. I see your genius logic but IT'S IDIOTIC PARANOID LUNACY THAT SIMPLY DOESN'T WORK.
  3. Welp, since I just made this post in another thread, I might as well repeat it for the ignorance of fools... Okay, lets get this out of the way, shall we... IF YOU'RE PLAYING THROUGH STEAM, THERE IS NO WAY TO AVOID THE UPDATE. If ARMA2 / DayZ is the only game you play through Steam, then you might be able to avoid it for a short while by using Offline Mode now and forever after, but chances are it will eventually bug out and you'll have to go online at some point to straighten it out. If you play other games, clearly this isn't an option, so get over it and just let the inevitable occur and allow the update to proceed smoothly. Still having problems with the update in regards to the base game, DayZ or your relationship status? WAIT FOR IT TO RESOLVE ITSELF - IT DOESN'T TAKE LONG. Are we all better now? Good.

  5. Shit... I don't know... maybe you're banned?
  6. That's sort of what happens with a MULTIPLAYER UPDATE when the updates are based both on the CLIENT AND SERVER so its probably going to take A LITTLE WHILE BEFORE YOU CAN PLAY. This is a mod, NOT the official game, so of course there are going to be compatibility issues! Most of the servers probably aren't even updated yet, who knows whats going on with the BETA or if its even still required, there are the goddamn morons that try and stop the download and then wonder why things don't work, just the same as trying to rollback... Do yourself a favor. Go have a coffee or a smoke or love-session or whatever it is you do to relax OTHER than playing DayZ and wait for problems to resolve themselves. Its a pretty big community. If it takes longer than a day, I would be surprised. Have a little patience.
  7. Erm, not that I'm against more servers or anything, but AUS/NZ have around 40 servers right now... even if they are shoddily handled.
  8. Jeez... one little update and people freak out? I fail to understand the problem at hand.
  9. Erm, for the people that don't know a thing about Steam, its impossible to turn off auto-update. If you check that box, its only for your current session. As soon as you restart Steam it'll be update enabled again and it'll download automatically. The only way to temporarily disable it would be going into offline mode, which never works for long term.
  10. Dying is the main thing to do in DayZ and we've all had our fair share of frustrating, clueless, betrayed and intense fire-fights ultimately ending in death. The rush of engaging with another playing is usually too strong to be able to better yourself of any post-emotions other than predictable anger and hopelessness. But now and then... a death comes along to remember. I've had a few worth mentioning. One time I found a fully functioning tractor in the middle of a field near Polana. I had never driven on the Arma engine before, and I proceeded this by crashing straight into a tree. Today was one when I really took my hat off to the guy. I said to myself: "That was awesome!" and didn't feel the least bit of remorse, shame or burning desire for revenge. I've been playing very recklessly lately, training myself up to be a proper noob (hey, we all die, I figured I'd get some practice at the hardest point and encounter more PVP) and have stuck exclusively to Cherno and Elektro, occasionally Balota airstrip. I had racked up a few kills in Elektro with the trusty Lee Enfield, a noob's best friend, echoing throughout the coast and I was on my way to Cherno for more of the same. On my way, passing through Prigorodky, I stopped off in a barn and was about to enter the next shed building, when I see a player in the doorway as I'm already entering the room. He didn't fire immediately, I suppose he was friendly, but enough experience has taught me that close encounters like that, without time to talk or proceed any other way, its kill or be killed. Two shots of my revolver he was a goner, and as I was looting his body I discovered he had a friend. That shotgun blew me away, and I headed straight back for revenge. I armed myself with a PDW with one clip, poor by any standards but it was all I had available. Upon arriving back at the same shed, the friends had met up again and were sitting crouching, I assume chatting over TS. I run in guns blazing before they have time to react and fire 11 shots on full burst with the intention to surprise and hopefully kill. It was a bad tactic and I was left with 4 shots left. I circled the entire shed with neither one of them following, opening a door on the way to distract them. I enter through the side door and they're both prone aiming straight at the front door I shot them through. Real poor tactics here and I was annoyed to die in this situation. There were three entrances to this shed and they're both aiming for the most obvious. I slip in and finish one by planting two shots directly into his head (the one I had killed earlier) and try to do the same with the next guy, but he hears me and turns to shoot as I run with empty ammo. I'm shot down and go back again, this time with a Winchester with 3 mags and an M1911 to make sure I do it right. I get there and neither of them are there and I presume my killer eventually succumbed to the wounds I gave him. Bodies were gone... no big deal, I have guns and its just a jog to Cherno. On my way out of town I see another guy immediately, with a shotgun in hand, running from three zeds. I'm amazed he doesn't see me, but he seems to be concerned with the once-were-humans. I take a shot and out goes his legs, he falls to the floor and immediately rolls as I struggle to aim at him through the grass. I was amazed by his quick response time, as he rolled down onto the beach letting the short slope protect him. As I'm walking a little closer, still firing to get homed in for the kill, and as the three zeds are busy munching on him, I see a black pellet catapult up and towards me. It takes me a second to realise its a grenade and another second after death to realise the range those things have. It was simply amazing. Seeing that frag fly up as he's being attacked by zombies and an opponent, with broken legs and using lightning reactions and quick thinking to not only roll away and provide cover in a seemingly open environment... but the fact that even through the intense rush of adrenaline and endorphins that release when fighting another player, he actually managed to remember he had a frag grenade, managed to switch to it without fumbling, and performed a hollywood moment of a throw directly at me... I was stunned. Totally in awe of that, accepting death totally and saying "Good on ya, mate" as I faced the death screen. No hard feelings at all. I was bested by far in both reaction times and skill, even when I had the upper hand. Death really is a rewarding thing when you get it handed to you by a deserving opponent.
  11. Right now? No. They're all fucked. The ones that aren't are either not advertising themselves so they stay a little safer, or they are operating privately so they can ban their own hackers, which isn't complying with the Dev's rules. Ever heard of Catch 22?
  12. I've totally boycotted the NZ servers. It seems they mostly come on in the late evening, which makes me speculate whether they're from NZ at all. Just don't go there. NZ servers are in a terrible state and I will continue to refuse to play on them until solid prevention measures are in place.

    Your favorite death?

Some cool stories. :) Glad to see death isn't always so serious.
  14. So you're in an open field with mostly equal distance between you and either the tree-line or a hill flank and you're fired upon by a sniper. You have a general idea of where he is and where the firing is coming from, even if its just down to guess work and deduction. Which way do you run? I've seen a few people just carry on running in the same direction, hoping they can outrun the shots and testing his accuracy. As a sniper, I do have difficulty with this one, even though its more of a shoot where he's going to be rather than where he is and lag can play a factor here in the adverse sense and benefit the runner. I myself tend to run in the opposite direction, employing an erratic zig-zag pattern until I get out of his LOS or hit the trees. It has worked for me many times, and also affects the zeroing a sniper has to adjust to as you get further away, but on the flip-side lag here can work to the sniper's benefit and he could get a lucky hit when you make a turn too early or too late. As a sniper, I've found it easier to hit targets that use these tactics. What do you do?
  15. Search for Private Hive or somesuch in the filter. Its serves that aren't synced to the main hive so you can effectively have a new, alternate character that saves but doesn't interfere with your other character on the main hive. I've been doing this for a couple of days. I'm not sure at all though if it breaks the ToS or if the servers are breaking rules by even existing? Does anyone know the deal on this? I'm really enjoying being able to improve myself without too much worry but not at the cost of a possible ban.
  16. So I've been playing on ANZ 7 and 8 a lot lately since they don't seem to sync with the NZ/US servers so I can play a new character worry-free while still keeping my geared up main character. I'd like to note that this isn't down to being afraid to die, although of course I'd like to avoid it. I managed to get some good gear without necessarily being that good at the game (lucky breaks and staying the hell out of towns) and wanted to practice PVP and general game mechanic usage. However, the big reason I don't want to play my main character right now is not fearing death from other players, but hackers. It seems everyone I know that plays on a NZ/AUS server with any kind of regularity has been affected/around/killed by/or looted by a hacker on a very alarmingly rapid scale as of late, and I've seen enough evidence myself to not want to play. ANZ 7 and 8 went down a couple of hours ago and when it got back up the character data was synced and I was back on my main character. Disappointment... Are there any other known servers where you can start a fresh/unconnected character without losing another character's server-synced data?

    Hacking poll question

There are 4 or 5 hacker threads on the first page of general discussion alone, and more in server general. Hacks tend to happen more at a certain time depending on time zones. There are a lot, and I'd say at least some form on every server, whether you've seen it or not. Given this... what more do BE, BI or the Devs need to see that this is an issue? And more-so to the point, when the hell is something going to get done about it?
  18. Please, for god's sake, update your servers and someone do something about this totally hands off approach to people ruining this mod testing for others. I refuse to log in right now, if I actually manage to get into a server (waiting 10 minutes at the character load screen to spawn in blank debug fields) (yes, I'm fine on other servers) and server-wide instant killing, enabling side-chat that's disabled and, oh yes, simultaneously raiding camps placed at three opposite corners of the map and teleportation. I'm not even going to mention the copious amounts of users exploiting death-dodging and duping. You know what, being in Alpha is no longer a valid excuse for the massive burst in hackers lately and the continued approach to let them do it.
  19. They're still on every night. Is anything being done about or should I give up hoping?
  20. Nope, totally agree. I'm not playing my main character anymore since all I see are hackers or exploiters. They come on every night on New Zealand / Aus servers, and probably everywhere else. Its simply not good enough. Whats the point of having BattleEye if they don't care about users running external scripts to ruin the game for others? It seems like every few hours a server gets "nuked", i.e. every player in the map gets killed instantly and simultaneously. I don't know why nobody cares, but if it keeps escalating with no rebellion, I'll stop caring about this mod.
  21. Anyone around right now?
  22. So earlier today half the NZ servers went down and changed their clients. I didn't know what was going on but carried on playing on the other half. Now all of the servers have changed their clients so I check around and updated as advised... the new BETA patch and the BEClient. Now it isn't letting me join any server, saying right after Wait for Host "You were kicked from the server. BattleEye: Bad player name". Is this a ban? What happened? How can I resolve this? I have played totally legitimately since day one. I have used questionable tactics (I did DC on two occasions when being shot at by unseen snipers or fallen from a ladder bug) but absolutely nothing that would have required a ban. I killed two people on my current life and neither of them showed up as murders (blew up one guy in a Tractor) and from the latter, I took an M4A1CCO and a Coyote pack. The only thing I can think of is a couple of nights ago I joined NZ1 server (Orcon I think) and after playing in Elektro for about 15 minutes a bus showed up carrying about 20 people. There were so many people in the bus I thought it may have been animated... but no, they were all players! Of course I joined along, why wouldn't I? We drove around many towns including the NW airfield (at least I believe thats where it was, very large) and the only thing I had picked up was an AK47 from a military tent in Starry. The two players involved with the bus organization were Ventura and GhostGhille. After driving around for about three hours, including Ghille stopping off to pick up a Quad bike, they let us out at the petrol station near Polana and shot everyone that was left. I ran for it, zig-zagging into the woods where I dced with my heart racing. If they were hackers, which I now believe them to be, why was it I was banned? I hadn't picked up any gear that was hacked, it was on the floor in the tent. I had simply ridden in this bus of which I had no idea that it may be illegitimate. If I had any idea that I was near anything involving hacking I would have DCed and changed server. Last night I was playing in NZ6 and heard a chopper come over Benezino. I DCed since I thought that to be hacker. If the gear from the player I killed in the tractor was hacked, I would have not stepped near it. So what the hell is going on? Is this actually a ban? Is there any way to get it lifted? Who do I contact? Do I set up a new profile? Is it a BattleEye issue since I just updated it? I paid $30 just to play DayZ and if I can no longer do that due to an unjust ban then I am going to be severely jareeted.
  23. Jeez man, thank you! I did search but not thoroughly enough. Thank you very much! Mods may delete/lock.
