    I want beards NOW!

Shit, I think there are more important issues at hand here without turning the game into a fucking fashion accessory outlet.

    Its hacked, ditch it.

    Found AS50 TWS

http://www.dayzwiki.com/wiki/BAF_AS50 If its that one, its fine. I'm unaware of the Arma2 weapons. It sort of makes me mad that I obtained an AS50 legitimately at a Heli crash site and now I'm suspect because all the scripters have it as their weapon of choice.

    Re-implement side chat?

Would be nice to see but it would probably have to be a server admin decision for the whole server rather than individuals. If they by default disabled using a mic in side chat then all would be for the better but not sure on how hard that would be to implement.
  6. Not the thunderdome, I want to hear what he said on private hives.
  7. Can I request a time-stamp on when he discusses it?

    Seriously Pissed off!

I don't agree. I think if you have something to lose, i.e. gear you're attached to then when you ultimately get yourself into a firefight it makes it that much more thrilling, emotional and totally fucking awesome. If you feel as though you have nothing to lose then you don't fear death and you go against the whole point of the game and the setting - the basic need to survive. Its people that aren't attached to their gear, i.e. dupers, hackers and exploiters that go to their bases camp and pull out one of twenty duped weapons without saving the tent and go back and do it all again. If you're playing with some spirit, its just that one life and that's all you have to defend, along with your gear. I don't know about anyone else but its fucking hard to find good loot anymore with the amount of people playing, hackers, dupers, expoliters, server-hoppers... when I get good gear, goddamn right I'm gonna defend it and you bet I'll be pissed when I lose it. Anyone who spends 10 hours trying to complete one task, only to do it and then be forced to do it all over again has been working in repetitive jobs for way too long. I'm not gonna sleep with a girl for 3 months and not be bothered when she leaves - sure, they'll be more, but you gotta take what you can from the moment. If I don't care then there's not much in it for me, in what's encouraged to be an "emotional" game it seems sort of counter-productive. Not being attached distances you from emotion. Yeah, I'll be pissed, I just won't be starting a forum thread - I'll be going back for revenge. RE: Topic. Hackers? Fuck all you can do, mate. Try to keep going for a server that isn't as fucked as some others. Tonight seemed exponentially higher for scripting use, from what I've seen.
  9. Here's one to warp your ethics. I was in Elektro playing on a private hive server (before we get into that debate, I started using them to get away from the hackers and this is the first time I've ever actually played a private hive with a hacker) and heard muchos explosions. Knew what was going down before I even got there, but the town seemed dead. I went into the red building opposite the school and lo-and-behold there's a camo suit in there. I honestly think this was legitimate as it was a residential area and the rest of the house had fresh loot. Mulling over my luck I headed over to the fire station hearing .50cal shots. I move on up towards the barn in hopes of arming myself and before I know it I hear a voice behind me and there's an unarmed guy in a ghillie suit, bleeding. My first question: "hacker?". I was typing and he was speaking over mic as though he was from the ghetto. He denied it at first and offered to "hook me up" or some such shit. He spawned and layed out weapons on the floor with tons of ammo. I politely declined saying I knew they were hacked in. Magically, poof, a guy appears out of his ass, in another ghillie suit and an AS50 (really makes me mad that my legitimate character on the public hives is suspect just for having that rifle). They're not shooting at me and offering me more weapons. I bandaged the bleeding guy (remembering a post that said hackers with godmode cannot bandage but regain health periodically). He tried to persuade me saying it was a private hive and not connected to the main database and I wouldn't get banned for it but I politely declined once more on principle. He said "well you a better man than me" as him and his friend started barrel-rolling to the sounds of a horn of a invisible car. I told them to have fun if they didn't shoot me in the back, He said he'd do no such thing. 15 minutes or so later my legs break and soon after the admin has restarted the server with only me, one other guy and the admin himself in (the 8 other players or so must have been suspect of hacking) and that was that. I can only assume they didn't kill me for kicks since I had camo clothing and was unarmed (a feat in itself) and probably looked like another hacker, but perhaps gained a little respect by declining to use hacked items. Not condoning or supporting the actions at all, don't get confused, but it was ironic since I have spent two weeks trying to avoid hackers and being successful in doing so and when I finally run into one again, they offer to kit me out in end-game gear. Truly the first time I've had a hacker act like that and I'm sure it will probably be the last.
  10. I think at this stage and time it would be game-breaking, no other way to say it. The zombies are nowhere near refined and polished enough in every aspect of their in-game effects, which goes down to their animation, their hitboxes (taking and giving damage), their bleed/bone break/unconscious random percentage chance, their general AI and the fact that they still bug out like crazy without even considering their erratic movements. Adding another alpha feature like this to an already highly vulnerable and weak alpha feature would simply cause chaos. He might try it out for an update and even with all of the rage threads and newbies, attempting to see if you get used to it but I guarantee it would just be taken right back out in the next update. Longer down the line, maybe, but there are far more important things to work out in-game and most definitely with the zombies before we start giving them speed as well as some grade-A crack.

    Just met a "friendly" hacker

While I do agree, I simply thought the story would prove a little break from the fifty threads we get a day telling us about hackers we already know exist.

    Can't beat them, join them

No mate, you're the one with the fantasy. There is no 'way' to play this game, its all based on judgments calls and your emotion at the time. Go ahead and throw your little hissy fit but if you had really reached an epiphany about how you play, you would have shut the fuck up and just got on with it. What you did instead was start a troll thread to show everyone how much a rebel you've become and trying to antagonise the community a little more. For those of us that haven't just started playing, we couldn't really give a fuck. These threads come along about once a day and never really hinder our gaming experience. You play however you want but don't come throwing a pussy whine to show how much of an elitist fallen-angel you are. We'll still end up killing you no matter how you choose to play.

    Can't beat them, join them

Thank god you're a middle-class under-achiever that's had everything handed to them, or else we'd really be in trouble.
  14. I've seen a lot of good and experienced discussions lately that are mulling over suggestions or current features only to be spannered by a couple of crackpots preaching 'realism'. Yes, Arma was a simulation game but DayZ is not - its whatever you want it to be. Feel free to roleplay but don't let your ill-advised judgments influence a community discussion. We're still playing a game here, folks. Realism is no excuse over poor game design, mechanics and/or features. Revised addition:
  15. Let me give you a counter-question. What else is there to do up North? Let me guess, build a fucking base of tents and vehicles and duplicate the shit out of them.
  16. Sad to see how much this topic got de-railed and how alarmingly people misinterpreted my post. I'm not trying to conform people to one belief, nor am I trying to stir up completely trivial circular arguments that make threads in this forum 10 pages long without anybody saying anything. The beef I have with realism is not how people play or what they get from the game. I have stated that twice, but here it is a third time for you to ignore. The post I made about realism was in specific reference to the game design of game mechanics and how features are actually carried out, not the features themselves. Y'know, kind like what testing an alpha includes? When I was talking about statistics, random percentages and the game on an actual game level, not some concept or idea, people would confuse it with their own concepts ideas that were totally irrelevant to the point I was making. Hey, sort of like this thread! You fit a helicopter rotor in your backpack because this is a game and its overlooked because of that. You need to allow a little more of that. There are good ideas in play here, if not great (they'd have to be for the current success, right?) but there is a very large refining and polishing act in process and it needs to be considered without people just wanting what they want from it. Its already a sandbox, open-world game, you can do what you want with it. Just have some reservation when it comes to bringing up unrelated arguments about the game when its being played when the discussion is how the game utilises its coding.
  17. I guess what I was trying to say that being a sandbox and open-world type of game there's a lot for users to fill with their own playstyle or mythology or whatever. Kind of like, you know, how we have friendly people that want to be play this game as if it actually happened and not shoot every single survivor they see? Realism is down to your own interpretation. I'll try to give an example in context. I was trying to discuss the regularity of zombies knocking you out or breaking your legs and had a couple of people come along and talk about how you could trip over while running from zombies. I mean, come on. I see the logic but I wasn't trying to advocate any fantasy based situations. When trying to talk about statistics or a game mechanic, like with this example, the regularity of an incapacitating hit percentage when based on blood levels, its quite frustrating to have to put up with "BUT THEY COULD BITE YOU IN THE LEG!". I don't mean to troll at all. There's just some cases (that are crucial in alpha stages) that need to be looked at with a step back with consideration to game design and not putting yourself into a character's shoes in the real world.

    Side Chat Comments I Miss

I still play on a private-hive server with side-chat. There's nothing like it. Was it removed for 'realism'? The sense of community you get with side-chat is astonishing. Much less KOS.
  19. As long as these threads exist then you're giving them what they want. Keep trying servers, keep the situation on a down-low and have faith. Its probably going to take a fair few months but something will at least be tried to combat it.

STEAM KIDDOES IS TO BLAME :D

I'd probably give the people that use Steam a bit more credit where its due, in my opinion. There's a reason its leading the industry standard and with a fair few veterans choosing it, Steam users can inject decent gameplay as well as valid testing and suggestions. Just, you know, that whole pigeon-holing thing? Yeah, it doesn't work. Even what you call "COD Kiddies" are invaluable to the community. There, I said it.
  21. Would have much preferred the option of multiple choice but its a great way to get a condensed version of people's opinions. Honestly, given how the forums are I'd definitely say these are the way to bring things to attention and could be used for more specific or in-depth ideas, suggestions or problems. The forums are here for all the nitty-gritty opinions and deeper answers but surveys should at least bring a collective and generalised opinion over a heated debate topic.
  22. I made a pretty long and extensive thread which discussed pros and cons of non-hive servers and their affect on the mod and community. http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/50870-re-private-hives-and-the-rules/
  23. I'm not complaining about the added boost of zombies from the latest patch, let me get that straight. What I am complaining about is if you're even a point under 9000 health and come into close contact with a Zombie, you're totally fucked. I am not upset from a single experience or angry that I lost my gear - I understand the rules of DayZ and the part death plays, I have no beef with dying. This is based on multiple and various assorted experiences and they all ended with my conclusion. In all situations that I've died to zombies recently its because the reckless and careless playstyle you could adopt in 1.7.2.3 simply does not work anymore. Stop your internal dialogue right there, that's a solid argument. I want to be straight and clear here. I am not looking for advice on my tactics or playstyle. I am not looking for zombies to become weaker. I am not attached to my gear and embarrassed about a death. This has happened several, several times now... I'm probably up to a dozen experiences with the zombie's super-stretch-armstrong-mega-punch-of-death if you happen to be between 8000 or 9000 health. I will grant, its not always the first hit, but lets say I've had 10 zombie deaths in this situation - 7 of those have resulted in unconsciousness or a broken leg on the first hit. I am not over exaggerating here. In the latter 3 cases, it'll usually only take a couple of hits more to achieve the same effect. I understand the blood calculations and effects it has on you whether you are in or out of combat and your player is under 9000 health. I have read the statistics, I understand it. What I don't understand is how it can manage to say its a "random" chance that a zombie can effectively 1HKO you with a single lucky strike. I even hesitate to call it lucky because luck determines some sort of abnormal or unusual state of play that adjusts the way things should normally work. What I can say is that this 'random' first-hit-super-punch definitely does not feel random or lucky in any definitions of the words as long as you are at 9000 blood or less. I like that zombies do more damage but with this hugely unfair or broken slot-wheel of unconsciousness or broken bones, you simply are not getting up out of that alive. I know that it should make you adopt a more careful approach, but it matters not for how careful or well you are playing - if you're under that blood level, and you get into a pinch with a zombie, you're going to fall down and not get up. I'd honestly consider you lucky at that point if you make it out alive if you're on your own, instead of calling the zombie lucky for that super-punch. This isn't an issue restricted to the latest patch since this happened in 1.7.2.3 with an alarming and frustrating frequency, it just seems that they have increased that unfair frequency rate even more and not giving you much to do about it. I'd like to hear other player's experiences with blood levels and zombie super-punches to clarify whether it is just me being extremely and unanimously unlucky (I really don't think my 15+ deaths to this are lying) or whether the random effect and coding concerning seriously needs to addressed for consistency, integrity whether it works at all in the "random" department, or whether that whole feature needs to be revised.
  24. Situation? Running like a madman or trying to bandage myself from further bloodloss and that inevitable donkey-kong-punch. I've stated this several times but nobody seems to be reading it. I don't have a problem with the feature but the consistency and frequency at which it occurs. I'm honestly really surprised you managed to last in that situation. Was it in the latest patch? I've had that before but on a previous version, not current. In a lone wolf situation like that I'm already on the floor being eaten alive before I'm even aware I'm vulnerable or in danger. Please don't come back with "you're always vulnerable and in danger". I try my best to prioritise and only shoot my gun when it is totally necessary. I used to consider bullets on zombies wasted but now that's been completely flipped on its head. The situations I end up having this slot-wheel-of-certain-death-punch is always when I feel confident that I can deal with the zombies or handle myself, and that's from current blood, how far away I am from a building, how many zombies are chasing me, if I'm in the woods, ammo, bandages, other players, etc. etc.... Lately, no matter how prepared I am for the encounter, they get the jump on me out of nowhere. I'm all for difficulty and challenge but as I said before, this mod and these zombie movements and AI are nowhere near refined enough to implement such amazing frequency of the super-punch.
  25. I don't know. I get the feeling that the people that think the zombie super-punch factor isn't as frequent only ever travel in groups and never play solo, with the ability to restore health quite easily. Losing the required amount of blood to get you to 9k is very, very easy. Say you're running from a bunch of zeds, or even trying to prone past them. One catches onto you and makes you bleed (not very hard). Let's say you are proning, and you need that agonizing time to stand back up again, by that time he's got about another 3 hits on you. With the new zombie damage, you can say if you were at 12000 blood prior, you're now at 11000 or even 10000. Running and trying to find a place to hide and bandage up is much, much harder now that they are a lot harder to lose, especially in forests as was my common technique. By the time you're in a situation you can bandage yourself without being pummeled, you're probably at 9000 health or under. Then you have to get back out to safety. At this point, the norm is 1hit is the end of you. Its fine if you have people to cover you, someone with a blood bag or plenty of cooked steak, but how often can you say that's the case? When you spawn, your only option is to run into town, usually alone, to gather supplies to survive, you're gonna encounter quite a few zombies as well as players. I've found you need extreme luck in a variety of ways - stealth is risky at best, players are always around and the zombie AI and movement is nowhere near refined enough to justify these penalties. I know death is the main part of the game, but we're not playing Super Meat Boy here. You don't get a 2 second period where you can try again and hope new tactics or the gods shining on you will help you get through a town alone. Its a long agonizing process that doesn't work when you're up against a broken slot-machine. I've been dying more times to zombies than players when I'm in new-guy mode and I don't think that's down to not being sneaky enough or being a bad player. For those 'realist' arguments, you can get to fuck. Really. You're dwelling too much on fantasy and not enough on game design and mechanics.
