  1. Yeah, alright, it was just an idea. If it doesn't work, that's fine, at least I tried. I simply felt it had more merit and purpose than those other threads popping up lately
  2. I did point that out, that's why I'm encouraging several reports of a specific player/server for it to be took into consideration for a list. What else can we do?

    Is up north dead now?

    You should also consider the amount of people that have been hording, duping and generally stashing away massive amounts of end-game gear at camp locations across the map. Now they have all of that there, there's not only no reason for them to keep going back into danger zones for more but its also out of boredom. As a generalisation players tend to do the same evolution steps in DayZ. Begin playing, get killed a lot, start a forum thread, get killed a lot more, venture into the wilderness for days, get bored, meet up with people or join a clan, experience the boredom of having every item there in a tent or car, get bored of that (or continue along if you're weak of mind) then eventually head back down south to kill other players as either revenge or lack of alternatives in gameplay. This latter is generally what happens at some point after repeatedly attaining medium/high level gear. Not only does that mean that northers are returning down south but you'll also likely get much better gear if you counter-snipe them or run across them in town, simply by killing them and taking their gear while they antagonise new players. You don't have to walk all the way up north if someone has been kind enough to walk all the way up and back down, carrying the profits with them. Oh, and did someone mention the hackers? Yeah, hackers. Sort of makes you less inclined to do a 3-hour walk if it ends up being Groundhog Day.

    Some private hive servers have extra vehicles enabled. Don't agree with this but although they are technically illegitimate in the game, it might not have been hacked in.

    Why I uninstalled DayZ.

    I do agree with this but you gotta ask yourself at what point alpha testing becomes masochism. With loading times, FPS issues, hackers and game-breaking bugs, mostly what we test is our own patience. Fortunately, private hives solve most of my issues and can test the mod as intended.

    I'd rather be patient and not have him do updates every half an hour and get it done than waste time appeasing the appetite of you fuckers. You're turning this patch into Torchlight 2. Grow a pair, shut the fuck up and wait for it to be released. Surely this can't be the only thing you have to do with your time.

    L85A2 AWS gone :(

    I found a heli crash site today and there was a SAW and two L85's. I took one of 'em. First time I've ever used the gun but two at one crash site is pretty uncommon.

  12. I went to the trouble of transcribing what Rocket said in his Machinima livestream about private servers/hives since its a controversial topic. "... recommend at the moment to do private servers for the live streams. And that actually brings up a good issue because a lot of people have been asking for the ability to create private servers or separate hives and things like that. And I think that's something we need to seriously think about as well going forward, um... you know I wanted to keep it like it is at the moment to get the message out there, to say: "This is a multiplayer game!", to the people we could use for financing and things like that. If they saw that the idea could be taken as a single-player game then they would have gone for that. So what we've done here is we've, you know the gamers have spoken and said "we wanna see more of this", so... we don't have to worry about that so much. So I think that we can probably come to some solution here and in the short term that would help with the hacking".

    Re-implement side chat?

    Welp, since private hives/servers have received a little backing from Rocket, hopefully side chat can follow suit, or at least allow those running private hives/servers to continue their usage of the great side chat-a-mundo!

  15. I didn't actually catch that the first time around. I was going to say you took that out of context but it really does seem like he is supporting private servers/hives now. I will totally continue to use them guilt-free now. I think what he was worried about was people abusing the "private" function in the sense that you have your own server with 1/50 players in it and just play it as a single player game. That's what I got from the message. Fortunately, no private servers/hives are like that and they encourage multiplayer interaction as any standard part of DayZ. I think that was rocket's "vision" as I'm so sick of people misinterpreting and play that line like a fucking broken record. That goes to all of you that posted in this thread with that bullshit carte-blanche. Its nice that he's actually cleared up that issue since I always felt it as ambiguous regarding these private hives. I'm going to enjoy playing much more now that I know what I'm doing to enjoy the game isn't in fact the taboo that most people, the majority of whom have posted in this thread, consider it to be.
  16. Since 1.7.2.4, no way in hell are they too easy. They aggro from much further away if you aren't proning through grass (even with 0 visibility they can sometimes spot you), combined with their added damage and hugely increased chance of status infliction (bleed, broken bones, unconscious) I'd go as far to say they're borderline over-powered as they stand. If the status infliction super-punch rate was knocked down a little bit to a lower and more random percentage I'd be very happy with the balancing of zombies. Lately I get killed by zombies more than players, which is attributed both to their huge boost in the latest patch and that you simply can't use the run-in-carelessly tactic as employed in versions prior.

    More hackers encouraged to hack

    Wow, that's fucked up. I'd like to recommend a private hive server so you can at least play/test this mod some more. It isn't the same character as your public hive character so you'll be able to spawn properly.

    I didn't bother voting however inclined I am to agree with a reset, since it pretty much puts everything up on a silver platter for hackers - more than it already is.

I'm not recommending any private hives, even though there's two that I frequent, since the reason they've managed to maintain somewhat successful running and experience is down to not advertising them like this. SInce I let this thread die over 3 days ago, it shows people do want this as an option. I did, however, see two hackers on a private hive yesterday (although they were strangely friendly and offered me weapons) and about 10 minutes after I interacted with them (refused and walked on) the server admin, who was online, rebooted the server (even without the 'no message received' sign) and we were brought back to the lobby, only me, one other person and the admin. I can only assume they were all banned. If that doesn't make you want to use private hives given the current situation then I don't know what will.

    So far as I can see there's no polarisation in opinions on this, either people want it back or people don't care. As long as it can be implemented with an option to disable (doubt he has the capability of this unless its a server feature like crosshairs and 3rd person) and for sure, disable the mic usage in side chat, I think re-adding side chat can only please people.

    I've made quite a few posts and threads on this forum trying to gather opinions about current features, solutions and suggestions and this has by far received more positive reaction than any others any its only on page 2. I think that is worth noting. Hopefully more people can chime in with their thoughts without de-railing the thread, as generally happens, since so far the response to bringing back side chat has been in overwhelming agreement.

    That's what I was trying to get across but anything controversial on these forums is usually blown up without really giving consideration to the suggestion and pros/cons. I hope now people have had time to mull over the experience without side chat they might have a more refined opinion on whether it should be left off or added back. So far this thread has proved promising on both sides of the suggestion.
