Whats the situation on this? I haven't updated the beta and haven't played on my hive character for quite a few days. I have been playing private hive servers quite a lot but not for the past two days. I'm a bit timid to update and try it if there is some sort of a mix up with this patch. Gonna get banned? Yay or nay? I have a feeling the ones getting banned may somehow be dupers.

When will we see DayZ standalone?
Anton17 replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think early 2013 is a safe bet but if he's wanting to release as a Minecraft blueprint, then we could hopefully see it by the end of the year... ... which I would love, because getting those little updates every so often would be like playing the game again for the first time. Mini-christmas every patch... -
RE: Private Hives and 'The Rules' - (Update from Rocket inside)

Yeah, sorry Delta Smoke but without trying to be reckless, I don't really understand how this is an off-topic subject. -

I have severe doubts. Also, to be faithful, Rocket seems to have distinct ideas on what is to be implemented, the community is merely subjected to democratic decisions on matters that are trivial or plainly bad. I think now he's got the chance to go big-time, he'll be doing it his way. As the mod stands, even as it is right now... I don't think I'd need mods. A couple more maps, sure. Who wants more maps? I do! I do! -

Ah-ha-ha-hem? You do realise it was that thinking with Arma that left us with a HUGE GAPING EXPLOIT HOLE FOR HACKERS? You know, that sort of huge issue in the present mod? -

Ain't gonna regret it. As long as there's players this mod will be going for a long time. -

"The project will follow the Minecraft development model; fast iterations with the community alpha available for a heavily discounted price." Jeez, don't you people read? -

Nah, still worth it, who knows when we'll start getting standalone alpha versions released. Anyway, you clearly didn't read the post, where he said he'd be doing it the Minecraft way, "heavily discounted" in alpha. -

I don't know what any of you think of Minecraft but I am super pumped to be able to play and watch unfold a game of great taste and get to interact with it every step of the way. Each one of those alpha, then beta patches is going to be like a mini-christmas... -

How many of you would stop killing players if there were achievements?
Anton17 replied to hazedaze's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm pretty sure all those people that ask for that crap will either be ignored, told to leave or get bored and leave on their own accord. DayZ ain't for your shiny shiny video game bureaucratic needs. -

I don't think achievements are really in the best interest of a game like DayZ. -
Standalone, Arma Engine and if you would play DayZ if they separated.
Anton17 posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
With the eventual prospect of a standalone, where any details on the matter have been either unconfirmed or kept private, there's a lot of speculation about how DayZ will turn out when it eventually (and if I know video games, it will) gets put out as a standalone. There are all sorts of issues about releasing DayZ while still using the Arma engine. I'm not here to talk about those issues or reasons. What I am here to talk about is whether you would play DayZ if it were to lose the Arma engine, which is still a possibility. Right now, DayZ as we know it is a solid thing to play but in actual fact for Rocket, its an experiment and a social test environment for the concept and idea that is DayZ. This means the point of it being an idea or concept allows it to be adopted in a vast majority of ways as long as it maintains the core features that the experiment deemed necessary to support, including using the DayZ blueprint in a new engine. I don't know about the rest of you but its hard for me to think of DayZ without the Arma engine. Sure, its buggy, out in an open field for security and has caused more frustration than the nature of the game, but its quirky and is certainly unique and has what helped DayZ get to the new, niche audience its acquired: because its different. If fate chose that DayZ would not be using the Arma engine as a standalone, would you still play it? -
The "list of servers you've found hackers in" thread.
Anton17 posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've noticed a trend lately of a mass of threads directed towards hacking, which has not only frustrated those starting the threads but also the ones that have to read them. The reason is simple: at this current stage nothing can be done about hacking in general. End of story. The only thing we can hope to do is compile logs and pray that BattleEye continue the bannings of people ruining our alpha experience. There is one short-term solution that we can at least provide to other players to help them avoid hackers. Since we as a community can't do anything but report the hackers, we might as well do something useful for ourselves and the rest of the users that want a better gameplay session, instead of posting countless threads about the issue that end up trolled, de-railed or simply being ignored in general. What I'd like to propose is that we start making a list of servers we've found have the biggest problems with hacking and ones that have had more than one or two users complaining that hacks or hackers were used / playing while they were. This way, we can at least try to avoid some of the more popular places for hacks, as well as hopefully let the admins know where to look for blacklisting. I'm aware this is going to have its fair share of weaknesses in terms of both questioning legitimate experiences with servers that have had hackers, the consistency of which those hackings have occurred, and also the inevitable outburst of a user or a server admin, seeing their server on the list, replying with "nooooo we dnt hack u do!!". There is also the fact that hackers do and go as they please, which means just because you've found a server with a hacker, doesn't mean it is frequented by hackers, doesn't mean nothing was done about it and doesn't mean that the server in question has done anything wrong. This is why we need several reports from different players to confirm if a server has a high rate of hackers. This is about honesty and respect and is not to be used in spite. If you're complaining about the legitimacy of a player or a server, then you sure as hell better be able to back it up and have that same level of honesty and legitimacy about yourself. I'm trying to do something beneficial here to try and help the community instead of encourage the countless inevitable pointless threads made daily on the issue and the trolls that frequent them. PLEASE, KEEP THIS THREAD CLEAN AND ONLY MAKE A REPORT IF YOU ARE CERTAIN. I DON'T WANT ANY NEEDLESS FLAMING OR DISPUTES ABOUT GOOD OR BAD SERVERS. USE YOUR BETTER JUDGEMENT AND ONLY REPORT THE NECESSARY INFORMATION. Unfortunately, there isn't a solid way to know if you're telling the truth. Only put down a server if you're certain that you've had an encounter with a hacker (not just a suspicion if you got killed by an unseen player), if you've had that encounter on that particular server more than once, if you have any evidence (screenshots are a luxury but also solid evidence) and if you can, the name of the player hacking. I don't want someone coming along because they fell out with a server and want petty revenge. This will be a test thread to see if we can come to a collective agreement about servers that should be either avoided, moderated/checked by DayZ staff, players that should be banned from servers or avoided if you see them. If this goes off the rails then I'll simply ask a moderator to lock or delete it. Please, as a community, show that you can pull together and start making collective efforts instead of frustrating each other and picking fights! -
Still possible to place Camps outside the Map?
Anton17 replied to Growbian's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No, you see, you just did it again right there. Just take a look. You say you don't want to place something off the map... then you say you want to place something off the map. What "don't I get at all!"? -
Still possible to place Camps outside the Map?
Anton17 replied to Growbian's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Wait, wait... you just said "I don't want to place something outside of the map", then you said "But I want to know if its possible because if it is, I want to place something outside the map". Well... I think that's hypocrisy and irony all in the same sentence! -
Then I guess there's definitely something big enough to warrant delaying it, no?

The reason I lost my temper was because of the nature and the nerve of this thread. You've got one guy who's working on a patch to appease potentially a million different players. This isn't a content patch and there are no major changes to be made in terms of gameplay. What the patch is supposed to be is a bug fix. If the patch hasn't been released yet, one would and should be able to assume its because those proposed bug fixes have not been fixed yet. In light of that, you might also assume that when the bugs are fixed, the patch will be released. Is this a hard concept to grasp? Threads like these are in no way beneficial to the forums or the community. They just come and stir shit up needlessly, just the same as the "hacking" threads, though you can understand them being pissed off. It ain't gonna take long, just let the man do his job and it'll be out when its out.. Don't throw your toys out of the pram just yet.

That may be the case but we're all still here, aren't we? There's gotta be something good about it. Its like a rockstar that appeals to your masochistic and rebellious nature. Its not good for you but you love it anyway. DayZ would be just another game with a concept of an idea if not for the community we have.
