  1. If you didn't force a minimum one lots of players would be playing at 500 which would be the minimum in ArmA 2, and they would constantly get killed by snipers 500 meters away without even knowing it, that would definitely lead to an outraged community. I don't think you realize how little 500 actually is. Picture of 500 View and Object Distance http://i.imgur.com/YbnsefX.jpg As you can see, it just wouldn't work. It would break immersion just as well as gameplay.
  2. Did you even read the post? Dean said himself Object Distance is NOT locked to View Distance, so trees are NOT showing up on hills far away, that's what the post is all about. If he has said anything else that I don't know about, please provide the source. Dean said the above at PAX 10 days ago, he's hardly said anything at all since, because he's been on his way to Everest.

    RIP DayZ

*Pat on Back* It will be ok, they will all catch a disease and die within 5 minutes of the Standalone and hopefully stop playing. :bandit:

You mean like this? Or this?
  5. Hi, I was just comparing A2 to A3 on Chernarus, and then I decided for the fun of it to try DayZ as well, and I noticed the View Distance was actually 1600, but I was 100.0% sure that it was 1200 when I tested 6 months ago, I've tried googling like crazy for 10min but haven't find a solid answer yet Since I haven't played or payed much attention these last months on the actual Mod, have they increased the View Distance or is it actual modding on the server itself to increase the View Distance that could be confusing me? Anyone know for CERTAIN what hard-coded view distance it is? (And was before, if it has changed) Thanks for reading Edit: Mystery solved! (DayZ Mod Alpha Default View Distance: 1500) Pic related! (ArmA 2 vs ArmA 3)
  6. Here we go, compared to a picture taken in June 2012, the default public hive server view distance was.. 1500.0! That could explain part of the DayZ Standalone Scenery Screenshots from the developers, it was 3000 on the dot, that's twice of what the default is now But we'll see, one thing I'm certain about tho is that Standalone will never have 3000 default view distance, it takes an enormous amount of performance. (I would say, expect the same or slightly increased) Mystery solved tho! (DayZ Mod Alpha Default View Distance: 1500) Devil's Castle with ~30 Camp Fires
  7. Very helpful.. not It is hard-coded server side yes, but I have still never seen a server with higher view distance then default (whatever that is), if it's in fact moddable, would it work on the public Hive? If not, since most servers today are Private Hive, that would mean many servers use custom view distance, like then one I joined.. but that still doesn't answer my question, what is the intended default view distance by the Dev Team/Dean? What's certain, it's not 1600 like then one I joined today It's either 1000 or 1200, I saw a thread about server settings and that one said 1000 flat, but I'm still not convinced about it (Now that I think of it, all I need is an old screenshot from summer last year and I can compare it to ArmA 2 OA today, and I will know exactly what the default public hive view distance was! :D)
  8. It's not, it's just fog when it's raining, it still draws everything inside the fog, but you can't see it because ye.. fog! "as far as I know" :P Exactly, also in the latest Devblog Dean is playing with 2400 View Distance when running around north of Chernogorsk, that's twice 1200, makes sense.. if it actually was 1200 hard-coded for the Mod, but also in an screenshot featuring scenery they use 3000 view distance Anyhow, if I am indeed correct that it was 1200, and still is, but the server I joined had modded it, it as said.. makes sense that Dean has literally doubled the view distance for the Standalone (But in my testing anything above 1600 is unrealistic, way to performance heavy) Got tons, been playing around lots with the new lightning system from ArmA 3

    DayZ - Cherno Spree *Removed*

This thread is getting out of hand.. people need to realize I did it for the lulz, and kinda trolling the thread I played with a "clan" on a swedish server, we had like 25 tents total in 2 camps, found vehicles and I drove around at night just after server restarts looking for crash sites (restarted ever 6 hours), found all weapons in-game in 2 days, I put them in the camp, and some of the clan mates duped them so we had like 5x of every weapon and GPS/NVG/RF as well, that's why I only had what I needed, have no use for matches/hatchet whatever since we already had everything in the camps. Before the first kill in the video I had just rode down from the north with a bicycle and put it in the forest north of Cherno, and yes I did server hop after 1-2 kills to avoid dying, which also meant that I never had to go back for ammo since every time you relogged if you had 1 bullet in the M107 mag, it would get 10 rounds after relogging. I don't think I had that much food, at the end of the video I went back to my own tent I had placed north of Cherno with food, mags and stuff, that's why I killed 2 ppl in the forest at night. This entire video took about 6 hours to record, 60 murders = 10 Kills an Hour, I jumped between maybe 15 servers in total As said, I did it for the lulz, would be fun to have a screenshot with 100 Murders since I doubt many have it XoXo

    DayZ - Cherno Spree *Removed*

Right.. I would see you before you see me. Yeah, It got a little boring, but still, the point was to get 100 Murders, end of story.. doesn't matter how I did it, it was the fastest way camping cherno. What is the point surviving 100 days? Would be insanely boring. Blood Bagging 100 people, yeah right.. like that's even possible with all these pvpers I've killed dozens of good geared players, gear doesn't mean skill. Yea why wouldn't I record the kills? Some people enjoy watching it. Since you're so mad I take it that ur a newbie, I don't think a skilled player would care, because this means nothing, just a few good kills that's it. Actually enjoying reading the replies, it really shines through how hurt they are, as said I think a skilled player would never hate on this.

Killing 10 fully armed players up north What's your point?.. I play DayZ this way: 1. Spawn in Cherno, if not I respawn until I do, run straight to the Hospital's to get Blood Bag, Morphine and Painkiller, then head straight to NW airfield, not looting ANYTHING on the way, run into barracks and pick up an Assault Rifle/Sniper with Ammo 2. Run back to Vybor Supermarket and pick up a few cans of food, sodas/water bottle and a backpack, then head over the street to the office building looking for Camping Tent and Camo Clothing/Ghillie Suit. 3. If I didn't find what I was looking for in the Supermarket in Vybor I run down to the Pustoshka Supermarket, and if I "still still" haven't found it I go down to Zelenogorsk Supermarket. 4. Now I'm in the North, I have a Backpack, Food, Water, Blood, Painkillers, Morphine, Assault Rifle/Sniper, Camouflage, Camping Tent This entire process takes about 1 hour tops, running from the coast _into_ the south barracks at NW airfield takes about exactly 29 minutes, then add 10 minutes for Vybor, 10 minutes for Pustoshka, 10 Minutes for Zelenogorsk So from 40-60 Minutes, get everything I need in the game. What do I do then? I set up my camping tent and dump all supplies I've found that I don't need on me. And start looking for Vehicles, then use the Vehicle for searching Helicopter Crash Sites, after server restart with a Vehicle I find at least 3 crash sites that nobody has found, which means I can get my hands on some heavy weapons in a short time, and then drive back to the camping tent and stash it. I've done this procedure.. sooo many times.. one noteworthy thing is that I've _never_ died running unarmed from the coast to the south barracks, and I've done it like 20+ times no doubt, you just have to run the right way, but still as straight as possible. I stopped playing DayZ like 3 months ago now, I had flown Heli for 10 hours in one day with Joystick, insanely fun, chased cars, searched for camps/vehicles, transported people and one time when we took a brake to resupply, we landed outside the map when waiting for a few guys, a cheater teleported to us and insta killed 3 of us at the chopper outside the map, and took the heli and flew away.. that's when I finally understood that it's not worth playing until Standalone, cheating ruins everything you've built in this game atm But since a week ago I downloaded ArmA 2+DayZ and tried Namalsk, which has opened my eyes again.

    1. No, felt bad when killing people with good gear (M24) and the people in the forest, not spawners, because they didn't loose anything, so why would I care. 2. Yes and no, the fun part was trying to do nice kills at long distances, but most kills were short-medium, wasn't really fun.. no challenge.. it got a little boring after a while yes 3. This was a one time occurance, 100 Murders, that's it.. I've played DayZ for hundreds of hours, never camped newbs, it's happened once or twice when I've killed an unarmed/axe player, I gain nothing by killing them

Based on the number of kills he mentioned he was trying to get, and the differing sun cycles, I'd guess this guy recorded this over a period of time, not just a day. In any case, that's a lot of baseless assumptions and pointless insults. If I had to guess, you've raged just a few times too many getting killed after a fresh spawn on the beach. To the OP, interesting video, but ultimately nothing too special about sniping people in cherno. These kinds of videos are a dime a dozen. I'm always way more interested in seeing videos of people using assault rifles and engaging in some CQC. Just a bit of feedback from someone who spends way too much time watching this crap at work. I am curious if you hit your 100 goal, I didn't watch the video all the way through myself. Yeah lol, Skrewy has no clue what he's talking about, he haven't even read what I wrote. I'm an experienced ArmA 2 player, and one of the better DayZ players, this was a one time occurance, as stated I wanted to get 100 Murders, without dying. I did in fact record this in a few hours, server hopped, went for food one time, when I use NVG, the ammo never was a problem, because when you relogged/switched server the magazine would be full again, if you still had rounds in it when logging out. (This was months ago) Yea indeed CQB is much more interesting, the whole point of this video is to see the PoV of a sniper in Cherno, and a few nice shots. (Really hard to aim with 20-25 FPS)
