You want a horror story son? I'll give you a horror story, about Green Mountain itself no less! In the early days of the infection, before the disintegration of society, a platoon of soldiers was stationed there to monitor and relay redio transmissions between military units operation in Chernarus. One day the radio station went quiet, all communication between High Command and the units in the field being cut off. The battalion holding the North-West Airfield sent a small unit to investigate and bring back word, in case the occupants had been overrun by zombies. Three days passed by before any trace of the men sent to investigate was heard. On the night of the third day, a lone survivor ran on to the airstrip pursued by the corpses of his former comrades. The undead soliders were put down as the man was taken into the infirmary. Having no visible wounds, bite marks, gunshots or otherwise, the Base Commander interrogated him. Frantically he relayed the experiences of the operation. According to him, the men reaches Green Mountain in the dead of night the day that they left. Finding the commander of Green Mountain wandering around the interior wall, he was questioned about where his men were. The crazed officer only chuckled, in a deep gutteral voice as he turned around. The soldiers found themselves looking into a pale, bloody face just as a voice shouted down from the radio tower. "Look out, he's one of them!" In a fury, the infected officer raised his rifle and shot the survivor in the tower dead, straight through the heart. The investigating troops put the officer down as he cackled madly into the night, his voice reverberating around the compund even after his head had been blown clean from his body. As the men turned around to leave they noticed the previous platoon members were standing behind them, aparently out of nowhere. The soldier that had been found running on the airstrip had been guarding the vehicles at the base of the mountain when he heard the man shouting from the tower. Unable to surpress his curiosity he wandered up and looked inside. His entire unit was bleeding from their faces, falling to the ground. They all seemed to rise, now infected and undead. The man ran as fast as he could north, cut off from the vehicles by another group of zombies until he reached the airbase. That very night Green Mountain was reported as lost, and the soldier who had fled died and turned in the infirmary mere hours after he finished his story. The base personel inspected him, but found not a single wound on his body. No gunshots, no bites. To this day, the few survivors still in Chernarus avoid that place. Those who go there almost never return, and those "lucky" enough to survive have told tales of perfectly preserved bodies, and a shadowy figure upon the tower that keeps watch for those who would threaten his domain.

do you ever hang around elektro? if so, please tell me as as I swear someone was staring at me on a hill outside elektro powerplant in the middle of the night. It freaked me the hell out and I could only see the silhouette. That aside, do any of you wish to hear the TRUE tale of Green Mountain? The Legend of the Haunted Radio Tower? The Legend is whispered by survivors around the campfire late at night in hushed tones, even on the other side of the country. As if the entity there can somehow reach from the shadows at the very mention of its name. Although I swore never to speak of that place again, I feel that others should avoid the fate of my friend, who never returned from that accursed mountain. Others should hear The Legend, and finally know what exactly it may be that stalks that place in the night.

Is everyone in DayZ like this?
Rock (DayZ) replied to EpicPencil's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I just hike up into the woods and avid other survivors, live off the land as much as I can. Hate going down into cities when my supplies run low, cause there's always some asshole somewhere who gets a hard on from ruining soeone's day. Ah well, such if life after Armageddon. I'd only trust the people you know just to be safe. -
it's part of the gameplay aspect of vehicles, ground or otherwise. When you use them they use fuel, in order to keep using them you have to find a jerry can, fill it with gas, and then take it back to your vehicle and refuel it. I think it takes a helicopter 30 jerry cans to fill the tank completely.

cool, i wasnt there unfortunately, so it's nice to see some quality images. Although I'm even more terrified now, after seeing your "infected friend." It makes me think that the sermon was just a ruse, orchestrated by an intelligent zombie so that he could infect other survivors with the virus and turn them into smart zombies too, who can now use guns and drive vehicles making their quest to destroy humanity all that much easier. Now that I think about it, maybe the church should have been bombed sooner if that was the case D:

You're playing too much Dayz if...
Rock (DayZ) replied to Vanz0r's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
When you shoot the neighbor's dog and cook it to restore the blood you lost from a paper cut earlier in the day. -
From what I gathered from the stream chat, someone rammed into the church with a damn HUEY, and everyone already inside got buried in rubble that only people who got there after could see... And then the last thing I saw was that while everyone else was trapped, he people who arrived after went insane and began shooting each other. So there goes our chance to rebuild civilization, hooray for the dark ages.

One of the servers that still has side chat, I was in the Elektro church. I heard through the chat that there was a sniper in Elektro and heard this giant rifle, more like a cannon, go off near me and some players offered to come help me. I told them where I was, but some asshat came in and shot me three times in the side with a 1911 as I looked away from the door. Still had 500 bloods, which was enough for me to crawl my way through the pews and empty an entire AK mag into his torso before I bled out.

[Temp. Closed] DayZ Walking Militia
Rock (DayZ) replied to Legacy (DayZ)'s topic in Clan / Group Recruitment
Just curious, what if a survivor, or a group, fires on yours first but simply out of reflex? Like a knee-jerk reaction to you guys suddenly appearing near them, and a firefight ensues. If you identified yourselves and they stopped firing, would you still help them/send them on their way? Even if one or two of your number were killed? It just seems to me that these kind of accidental shootouts could happen alot in this environment. I myself am pretty jumpy and on edge when faced with other survivors, and I'd hate to accidentally take a shot at you guys and be killed/hurt when I tried to apologize. -
Day 4 going into 5 right here, which is also my longest life. Survived for 3 of those days in and around Elektro (somehow) and went north to meet up with a friend who spawned near Berez. I'm pretty satisfied with my stuff, and have the means to be self sufficient. Kinda boring, I admit, having tons of gear and not wanting to risk it. But what the hell, i figure if I get bored one day I'll just go into the middle of Cherno, or elektro, or the nearest big town and take as many Deadheads as I can to the other side with me.

What has happened to this community?
Rock (DayZ) replied to mordrag's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
False. I am 17 and very rarely kill other players, and only then when I'm being threatened by them. Just because I'm not a certain age means that I'm not allowed to play this game that I love so much? As a huge fan of zombies, I have found myself looking for a good Zombie Apocalypse sim where you have to scavenge for food and survive, just like THIS ONE. It would be a very huge disappointment for me if I couldn't play because someone has generlized y entire age group as "Immature, KOS, CoD loving deathmatchers." I've been killed many times by people who are in there 20's or 30's with a KOS mentality. I guarantee you that just as many adults as teenagers are sitting in the hills above Cherno with a high power sniper rifle waiting for a poor sap, who's only defense is a flashlight, to walk into their scope. Just as many adults as teenagers get good gear and decide: "Hey, I'll go kill some players on the coast today because it's fun seeing them shine a flashlight at me while I shoot them in the head." No matter how old you are, there are NO CONSEQUENCES FOR MURDER in this game. People of all age groups realize this and take advantage of it, which has nearly destroyed the social portion of this apocalypse. -
I'd attend the service, but for the fact that I haven't witnessed enough of my friends being shot to pices or torn apart to have a death wish yet. Who knows, if this service thing goes off without a hitch, maybe we could rebuild society in Chernarus. Think about it! Tales will be told of this day, the day that the human race was saved! "And behold, he of ghillie suit and L85 looked upon though city of Elektrovodsk, and knew then that thou fellow man no longer be game fit only for the hunt, but his bretheren! As all looked up, a light shone forth, cleansing the world of undead and harrowing a new age of peace, harmony, and brotherhood!" ...or bandits show up and massacre everyone who attends. I can imagine it now: July 30th, 5p.m. we invite you attend the largest funeral in all of Chernarus! Bring as much firewood as you can carry, and all the matches you can find.

Um...kinda...but not in the forest... After my post about the Dancing Demon/Man thing of elektro, I decided to make good on my word about heading up north after getting more supplies. Dark out again as I slowly approach the general store from the north (after, of course checking out the area where the Man was earlier, from afar) and I throw a flare a ways off so that it illuminates the store JUST ENOUGH for me to see enough to move by. I look around one last time as I enter, all the Zacks in the area are heading for the flare I threw and I can't hear any groaning noises. So I creep into the back of the store and pick up a can of pasta when all fo a sudden my scren blurs like when you're hit, and I hear a shriek behind me. I turned around and saw a zombie wearing a dark suit with a red tie staring at me with his pale face as he held his arms in an attack position. I emptied my entire revolver into him, looted the store, and ran like an Olympic sprinter to the north. Shortly after that I stopped in the forest, still dark out, and proceed to check my map. Finding my position and plotting a route to meet my friend in Berez in the next day or so, I hear a strange noise. It had been raining since my exodus from that accursed coastal metropolis and my body temp was beginning to drop. I had planned on applying a heat pack after exiting the map but I could barely look around after I heard the noise. It was like a pitter-pattering noise that seemed to come from all around me as I lay in the dark, wet mud. Footsteps? Why would another player be out here at this time of night, I asked myself. The server only had about me and two other guys on it. I was laying there for a good five minutes, trying to make out the source of the footsteps, but for the fact that they seemed to be moving whenever I rotated my head. It was almost as if some entity was running around me in circles for the entire time as I tried toget a bearing. Take note that it was raining this entire time, so it was a wet noise like when you run quickly through mud. So I decide "Screw this, I'm outta this crazy town," and I stand up and run full sprint north. The noise followed. I began doing a crouch run and shakily announced that I would open fire if this guy didn't stop messing with me. No answer. I heard the muddy footsteps yet again, looking around and seeing nothing but black. I don't dare stop, but suddenly in the shadows I ran directly into... a river? A small pond? I couldn't even make out my hand i front of my face in that light, or rather the absence of it. I swam for a good 20 seconds, finally reaching land. Somehow I still had all of my gear, save for road flares. One left. I decided I didn't care if I was shot, I had to see my pursuer. I popped the flare directly behind myself, where the steps had been coming from. Nothing was there. Just the wind in the trees and the chirping of the crikets that had seemed absent moments ago. The footsteps were gone. Then connection problems came up and I was DCed from the server due to "No message recieved."

Oh man, I'm moving north from Elektro after my next trip in. Chernarus is a friggin haunted place I tell ya, but I'll never go back to elektro at night. It was the middle of the night, the witching hour, when I logged on. My friend Logged too, and we decided to meet up north of Elektro at the power plant, go into town, and get him some gear since he was recently killed. Since I was already there I decided to hide in the bushes, ya know, in the corner of the wall right next to the back entrance of the station house? My buddy said that he was following the power lines in, but didn't know when he would get there so I settled in those buses looking out to the east of the plant just in case any players were around with nvgs. As I sat there in the near pitch black darkness, I noticed a figure standing on the hill I was staring at. Now at first I thought it may have been my friend, but I decided not to say anything. Now, the terrain here is kind of key, as there was pretty much only ONE spot at which I could have seen this guy given the trees. There were two trees, very close together, the branches weren't intertwined or anything like that. They were just far enough apart that, from where I was laying, I could see this guy's silhouette against the sky perfectly as he stood on the hillside, like there was some kind of faint light behind him. Now at the same time, I realize that he hadn't been there the last time I looked. So instead of glancing around some more, I looked directy at him, and that's when I realized it: he was looking right back at me. He had been the entire time. Staring for a few mroe seconds it looked like he was aiming a weapon at me. Now I know that, by this point, it could have been a bandit or some such and I was fully prepared to take a bullet to the domepiece because I was getting kind of scared. So I ask my friend "Hey, are you near Elektro yet dude?" His response: "No idea, I don't even think I'm going the right way." wut. So I informed him of what I was seeing and took aim with my AK. I was practically trrembling IRL because this dude was staring right at me, and there was no way he could not see me aiming at him. Why wasn't he taking the shot? Then he started moving. Not running, or walking, or even going anywhere. He just began leaning left, leaning right, leaning left, right... all the while he was still staring at me. I was pretty much yelling at my friend, asking him if I should take the shot. He told me to do whatever I thought was best. And, in light of there not being a "blow your own brains out button" I elected to do it to this dancing man on a hill. I cycled my AK to Semi-auto, takeing my eyes off the guy for all of 1.5 seconds tops and when I looked back up to the hill he was gone. Vanished. Disappeared. I was freaking out by now as I envisioned the Dancing Man coming down to kill me personally, when immediately my friend sighed over his mic. Aparently he had been shot in the span of the 10 to 15 seconds after the Dancing Man vanished, still trying to find his way into Elektro. I logged right then, after shitting enough bricks to build a house.

In my first day in Chernarus, I met up with my friend, Danny, very quickly. An expirienced survivor, he elected to take me into the nearby large city of Elektro to gather supplies for me. I said the name of the city to myself, so I could remember it. Elektro. We had no idea of the horrors that awaited us there. Going quietly from house to house, my looting managed to procure an M1911 with extra magazines, a map, some food and soda, and road flares. Being sufficiently satisfied with our finds in this area, Danny led the way to the next part of town. An office building near the supermarket was our destination, but we weren't alone. Inside another survivor was scavenging for supplies, already wounded and low on blood. Danny communicated with him as I searched the upper floors for anything useful when I heard Danny yell. Running back down the stairs I arrived on the first floor to find that the building was being assaulted by the dead. I don't know how we had been given away, but I was only thinking about getting out alive. As we ran for the door, we noticed that the other survivor had been mobbed by a group of them, and was being devoured. Danny shot the three attackers with his pistol as he ran over to our uncncious friend. More of them made their way in as I urged him to leave, but was busy going through the poor soul's belongings. Grabbing a few items from the man's pack, we rushed out the other end of the office complex as our friend regained conciousness right as another, larger group of zombies converged on him. We never saw him come out. We fled into one of the nearby buildings, which I searched while Danny covered the door and kept an eye on the building we had escaped. At that moment, another survivor burst in from the rear entrance. Her name was Tik-Tak, and she was unarmed and scared. She yelled for a good 15 seconds at us, begging us not to shoot her. I was so frightened that I nearly did. Eventually all three of us calmed down, and we introduced ourselves. Now with a new third member to our group, Danny decided that we needed to find more weapons. Who was I to argue? It looked like we needed a damn machine gun to stave off the horde, but we only had two small pistols and a bolt action rifle. Tik-Tak informed Danny and I that station houses usually contained good loot, and that she would split the findings with us when we got there. The deal was too good to pass up. Slowly crawling past the office complex, the three of u managed to avoid the undead staggering out of it after losing interest in the remains of our friend, likely picked clean by now. Slowly, ever so slowly, we made our way to the station house in town. Danny suggested approaching from the northern end, as he reasoned that the zombies would be concentrated more to the center of town after our encounter. After making it through the fence, we crept down to our destination. All of a sudden, something hit me from behind. Being the last in line, I turned to see a furious zombie dressed in military camoflauge and snarling in my face. He let a demon-like shriek from his bloody mouth and hit me again. My vision blurred slightly, and I realized that I was bleeding. I turned around and ran for the station as I shouted for my friends. They had gone inside, oblivious to my peril, and closed the front doors to discourage any bandits from taking a shot. I sprinted to the back as more closed in around me. I fired my sidearm as they sprinted at me, dropping them each with one shot. I hit the last one right as he collided with me, killing him. Unfortunately, his hit knocked me out cold. I lay there, wondering how quickly the end would come. A blurry figure stood over me, then croushed as I braced myself. Then suddenly I was up! Rolling over onto my chest I heard Danny yell at me. "Get your ass in the station Rock!" Tik-Tak was covering me with a rifle she had found as I stumbled inside seeing only faded colors and fuzzy shapes through my blurred vision. Danny slammed the door shut behind him as he and Tik-Tak ran over to me. I decided to go up the tower and look for a better weapon for our escape, but I had to know something first. "Danny," I asked, "how did you get me up so quickly?" I could practically feel his smile on the other side of his microphone. "Epi-pen. I looted it from that guy in the office." Having no idea what in the hell an Epi-pen was, I dragged myself up the three levels of steps in the station tower. At the top, I struck gold. A Lee Enfield and three full magazines for it. Equiping my latest find, I limped dwon the steps again only to hear Danny's frightened voice. "Uh...Rock, it's happening again!" I look out the window on the 2nd level. an entire horde of them is running at us, with more appearing from alleys and doorways from all around. I was reminded of all the times Danny and I had faced down a horde in Left 4 Dead, but this time I knew that there would be no escape. I went down the stairs as fast as I could, hearing the dead storm our position. The initial few were taken care of quickly but dozens more at least would be to us within seconds. I knew what I had to do. Danny had come into this godforsaken kingdom of death for me, and now he was going to die unless I did something. "Danny, Tik-Tak, you guys go. I've got like 4000 blood left, I'll hold them off while you get away." I shouldered the Lee Enfield as the mass approached, and fired. I fired again and again, one shot one kill. I ran out of ammo just as more came from the back, where my friends had fled to. I pulled out my 1911 and exited the rear as more closed in around me. Danny was yelling from nearby that Tik-Tak ahd made it as I began to work over the crowd of undead coming at me. Suddenly a loud boom came from the other side of the station and a small group of zombies fell before they could flank me. Danny screamed that his grenade had cleared a way through them and that he would cover me. My handgun ran dry at that moment, but before I could turn and run to safety I was hit from behind. I ran to the corner and took out my hatchet, dispensing with my attacker at once. I turned again to run only to see the hole that had been opened had closed just as quickly. Danny's rifle was tunering outside as he tried to cover me in a futile attempt at rescue. With only my hatchet, and barely 2000 blood left I struck down three more before I ran up the stairs. I realized suddenly that I had been followed by one, a crawler. I charged at it and hit it square with the hatchet, but I hadn't realized that it was right next to the stairs. With a loud crunching noise my bones snapped as my legs slammed into the conrete flooring one level below. I crawled out of the station, surrounded by bodies on all sides. Less than 500 blood now. Crawling slowly, I made my way to the fence again as a few remaining dead closed in. I called out for Danny as I neared the position he had been covering me from. No answer. I turned one last time as the zombies stood over me, content that Danny and Tik-Tak had lived another day. I glanced at he debug monitor, even more content at the 38 zombies I had killed so my friends could survive. The final blow landed, my last sight a pale man with rotting skin, a blood-smeared mouth, and death in his eyes.

How are you liking DayZ so far?
Rock (DayZ) replied to Rising (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
The intensity s really present in this mod, especially when you ahve no food and are about to tarve to death. After avoiding a bandit in Cherno, I decided to go to elektro to look for food when i ran into a recently spawned player being mobbed by zombies. I took them out and saved him, but got hit pretty badly in the process. He ha no food, so i sent him on his way and proceeded to move into elektro as the sun went down. I couldn't see anything after getting halfway to the supermarket, and threw a flare to light up the place (a dumb idea if it had been a populated server) and ran through the buildings at full sprint looking for food. I finally found a can of pasta on a dead zombie and ate it in the nick of time. I was still low on blood and decided to get out of the city before i ended up dead. I snuck to the north of the city, and accidetally alerted some of the zombies near the power plant. I ran for a ladder but one cut me off and I was forced to pause for a second and shoot him. As i did that, the one chasing me smacked me in the back of the head when i turned around, but i managed to put a bullet in his head right before i lost conciousness. As i lay there out cold i saw more zombies stumble by, barely illuminated by my distant flare as I thought "This is it for me, I'm a goner." They kept walking, aparently missing me because i was lying down and out cold. As soon as I woke up, I was barely able to scramble up the ladder to the roof and bandage myself before bleeding out because i was shaking so badly, in the game because of pain and IRL because of the close call. -
I'm 17, and I try to be a nice guy when i can. I mean yeah, I don't really trust anyone else who has a gun and i'm really jumpy, but I don't like killing other humans in this game. Just today I saw a player, just spawned, with a pack of zombies chasing him outside of elektro. I had a 1911 and a winchester, and decided to take the time and bullets out of my day to save him. Thankfully I wasn't murdered, and found a ton of food just a bit later because karma.

Hey guys, i'm Rock, which is my in-game name as well. I'm generally a friendly player until you get close to me, as I'm very paranoid, scared, and untrusting. I've been chased by zombies, mauled by zombies, shot at, shot, and a dozen other things in my few days playing. I tend to shoot if people get too close because of a few (5 in a row) previous encounters with unfriendly and heavily armed survivors. I don't really trust anyone that I don't already know, and coming after me is a bad idea. I've been killed by other people twice now, and both times I've taken my attackers down with me. The Rock, never goes down without a fight. So yeah. I've killed about six people and maybe 60 zombies. Please don't come near me, I don't want to have to up my human kill count any more than I have to!
