    Just met the cutest couple...

I always avoid groups because I find that people are more likely to be the KoS type if they are playing with someone else. The thrill of the hunt I guess.

Do we really need more towns?

More unique buildings is without a doubt something i would love to see.
  3. I'm not saying it should be on par with an axe in the head chopping game, but 10 hits compared to 1 is pushing it. Also: Are you really calling a crowbar light? They come in different sizes and the one in DayZ is about medium. Have you held one? Not trying to disrespect you, but thats about the last thing you wanna get hit in the head with if we are talking blunt instruments.
  4. Okay, replace "bat" with "crowbar" and it's the same deal. As it is now you can barely defend yourself if you dont happen to have an axe. Realism is great, but this is a game. Dancing around a zombie for 30 seconds and swinging at him, only to turn a corner and aggro another one just isn't fun.
  5. I remember once running into a house, finding a pair of better pants and switching them out. Then my old pants dissapered from the ground and somehow ended up outside in the garden. My biggest gripe at the moment (except for the poor performance) is zombies that run through doors/wall, and how unbalanced the melee weapons really are. The vast majority of the weapons are essentially useless. You need to swing at a zombie around 10 times to kill it with a bat, yet it takes 1 hit with a pristine fireaxe, and fireaxes aren't exactly uncommon. Until you get an axe, fighting zombies is really not recommended at all.
  6. It's not overclocked, as I havent really gotten familiar with it. Only thing I have done is overclock graphics cards by using the manufacturers software. I also have the massive Noctua aircooler, and a 1000W Corsair power supply. I have 2 580's for SLi, (Both are the slighty faster editions from Gigabyte and EVGA BlackOps edition) but only running one card. I bought the second one extremely cheap from a friend (30 dollars) like 2 years ago, but I haven't used it much because I get massive heat issues of up to 90 degrees on the top card, even with a long SLi bridge so the cards could be in bottom and top slot I have tried both cards single, and switched to the Gigabyte one a few days ago, and the performance is identically bad. Next time i build a rig, I am going balls out water cooling for both CPU and GPU. I don't want any of those garbage closed loop Corsair units. My air cooler is actually proven to cool better. I want a real water cooling setup. Anyone got any recommendations?
  7. The game as a whole looks good. Since this is an open world sandbox type of game with massive draw distances, and not some corridor shooter, the textures aren't anything special. And that is what makes me wonder why my system takes such a massive hit when I look in the general direction of a bunch of buildings. The buildings themselves don't look that good. But I guess it all comes down to the fact that the game is not optimized properly yet. I actually had this problem as well in the mod, on this system as well. Especially in community made maps, like Taviana. Sabina takes a massive dump on my rig, but not as bad as the housing projects surrounding Cherno in Standalone.

    Hypothermia out of control?

I honestly don't think the hypothermia mechanic is that punishing. You can still run across the map to NWAF without picking up a single item, if you get a spawn on the east or south coast. You also aren't likely to catch hypothermia if you are wearing anything that aren't the starting T-shirt. Personally i've only died from hypothermia once, and that was because I had to leave my PC for a while right after spawning in.

    Playstyle Poll

If i encounter players in the wilderness I tend to be friendly, unless they have their rifle drawn, then I will tend to avoid them and shoot on sight if they follow me. I find that more often than not, they are out to get me. If i encounter players in larger cities I will keep an eye on them. If i turn a corner and come face to face with someone and spot a gun, I will communicate over VOIP while taking cover. If I for example spot someone in Elektro with a gun, that I suspect of being a KoS kind of player, or is pacing between the police station and the 2 fire stations, I will kill them when I get the chance. If I spot someone with full military gear in a larger city, I will assume they are there to kill people because there is nothing they want there. If i spot ANYONE in the second floor apartment window overlooking the centermost firestation in Elektro I will kill them.

    Is Fire useless for Hypothermia?

Last time I remember i did it, it was somewhere in the forest surrounding Svetlo. Don't remember if i had the cold buff when i started the fire, but i saw no messages or buff that I was warm, nor did my clothes get dry. Sidenote: I hope they implement the ability to cook canned foods on a pan or in a pot. Spaghetti comes to mind. I would assume you will be able to cook rice at some point, considering the description talks about adding water.

    Improvised bandages

I find that zombies are even more likely to hit you from outside buildings now, than a few builds ago. As a matter of fact i just died from being hit by a ninja zombie. I bled out while searching around a small town for a bandage or a shirt to rip up. I didn't find one. I really think it should be possible to make improvised bandages out of a lot more things than just shirts. Bandanas should be useable, Maybe if you had a bladed weapon, you could make an improvised bandage out of things like pants and wool jackets, and instead of completely consuming the item it could degrade to 1 step above ruined (forgot what it is)

    Is Fire useless for Hypothermia?

I have lit a fire multiple times, and sat there for at least 15 minutes. At no point did i get any messages about being warm or warmed up, and my clothes didn't dry. Currently it seems useless, for anything other than cooking meat, which in itself is pretty useless considering how much canned food and fruit you can find.

    Improvised bandages

Actually you don't have to remove tshirts before you can tear them up.

    Improvised bandages

Well, I had a red bandana on, and I couldn't tear it up.

    DayZ Lack of Social Realism

Well, 2 situations comes to mind: This was back when you would often spawn outside Elektro on the beach. I ran to Elektro, got some decent gear and a gun. Dont remember which. I run into this freshspawn (or someone that seemed like it) that seemed friendly at first, he even bandaged me when i got hit by a zombie. We talked for a while, and I told him I had seen some clothes in a nearby industrial building, so i lead him over there. About 10 seconds later his friend in full military gear comes sneaking around the corner with his M4 and kills me. I felt like a complete sucker lol Another story i already posted in another thread: I was a freshspawn in the fields west of Svetlojarsk, and i spot this group of 5 or 6 players. Turns out they were a group of german bandit roleplayers. The leader was this guy with the Payload Dallas mask, and the sawed off shotgun. He called himself Kaiser, spoke with an american accent, and sounded like the main character from Bulletstorm. They proceeded to hold me up at gunpoint, even tho I had literally spawned 30 seconds earlier. They were being honest, and told me I was gonna die, and it would be now if I tried to run (They had miltary gear, but didn't wear camo clothes.) I decided to play a long for fun, and they took me to the area with the cliffs overlooking the road east to Berezhki, and here, they set up camp, and the Kaiser guy proceeded to spend the next 30 minutes asking me weird and random questions, like what i like and didn't like about DayZ. Whenever one of the other germans spoke, he would literally scream into the mic, at the top of his lungs for them to "shut the fuck up!". He did this several times. It was hilarious. I wish i had recorded it. It all ended with Kaiser wishing for me to jump off the cliff, while screaming "Kaiseeeer" so he could Fraps it. I actually did it lol. Even tho I am not into roleplaying myself, it's nice to spice up the game every once in a while.
  16. This type of hack is everywhere now. How exactly can their hacks affect my character, I don't get it.

Taviana-Anywhere to make a good base?

Well, a popular (but overused) base design is building a very tall structure of cement blocks right next to a corn silo, then use the top of the silo as a helipad with an added wall around the top of the silo so sniper bandits can't easily easily kill you off when taking off in your chopper. The tower itself serves as the base. This takes a lot of time and resources so will probably take quite a while if you are on your own. Corn silos are all over the Taviana map.

    Dayz Epoch

Dayz Epoch is a server plugin for ArmA 2 DayZ. It adds a whole lot of new content, such as to name a few, an economy system with "gold currency", safezones with material, food, weapon and vehicle vendors, a mission type system with AI bandits and modular base bullding like in Rust. It is literally DayZ with heaps of added content. Some like it, some don't. Personally I am on the fence. I like both experiences. In Epoch you don't really scramble for survival in the same way you do in DayZ. Epoch is not really about survival, it's more about building bases, and waging war on your neighbors. Vehicles are everywhere as they are fairly cheap to buy, and guns can be found minutes after spawning. Epoch is what the vast majority of DayZ players play these days. About DayZ Standalone, and DayZ Epoch. Rocket has said that he hopes the Epoch team will switch over to Standalone when it is further in development. Modding of Standalone will be possible. He also said that the reason why "the keys to Standalone" has not been handed over to the community yet, is obviously the game isn't even near being done, and they are planning on redoing fundemental parts of the engine, which would mean the modders would have to start all over.

Lock picking from a lockpicking hobbyist

I always found that using bumpkeys is a lot easier. Not as much as an art, but easier (and noisier)

    Players start with a map

Honestly, just having the map always there and not be an item in the inventory would not change anything, just make it easier. Most people look at the map online, at Dayzdb.com. No shame in doing that. Permanent ingame map would be fine, just don't show the players position on it. Some sort of navigational skills should be required. I hope GPS gadgets stay out of the game as well. Too easy to use it to judge distances for sniping.

Most Reputable Hero Groups / Clans

Funny story. These guys werent exactly well coordinated, but a funny bunch. I was a freshspawn in the fields west of Svetlojarsk, and i spot this group of 5 or 6 players. Eating and drinking system - Please, just give it up.

What i meant is, say that Energized + Hydrated grants you 100% of whatever stat they affect. Going from 100% to 90% feels like it takes longer, than going from 50% to 40%. In other words, hunger level degrade at a slower pace. Once you eat that 1 piece of food that takes you over "the edge" into Energized, you would assume it would take the same time for the Energized icon to disappear, as it takes when you have the hungry icon, eats something so it goes away, only to have Hungry return.. If that makes any sense. I have a hard time explaining this. Thats what it feels like at least, i could be wrong.

Eating and drinking system - Please, just give it up.

Can anyone confirm/deny that getting Hydrated+Energized combo has a positive effect on your need to eat? I seem to remember having played for many hours without dropping to hungry or thirsty.
