Arma 2's mechanics make dayz lame
strangere replied to Slobbergoat (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Again that's not because of engine it's because Arma didn't need good inventory system, when you play arma you almost never use inventory same with opening doors but these things can be easily changed in standalone.Inventory and controls are not limited by VR engine -

Maybe because bad controls are not engine fault. They can be easily changed. -

Bad controls are not because of VR engine and they are going to change controls in standalone. -
That's Arma 3 feature so it could be in Dayz

Too bad VR engine is already confirmed for standalone ;) -
Arma 2's mechanics make dayz lame
strangere replied to Slobbergoat (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
OP is clueless most of thing he has problem with are not because of engine limitation. It's already confirmed VR engine (arma engine) is going to be used in standalone. In standalone they are going to change controls, make new animations, add melee attack that is actually melee attack. Dayz is limited just because they don't adjust the engine but just mod the game. For people who thinks that VR engine is only for Arma go check Carrier Command: Gaea Mission its strategy game build on VR2 (Arma 1 engine) -

How much would YOU pay for DayZ standalone and Why?
strangere replied to sparta436's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't think there will be monthly subscriptions. Rocket Alpha will be heavily discounted paid project. The project will never be a full retail priced title, and the alpha will be heavily discounted. No prepurchase. But there will be a premium type purchase that contains some extra collectors edition type stuff like concept art prints etc... for those who want to throw money at the project -
For anyone who hasn't seen this Rocket answered some questions (mainly about Dayz standalone) on reddit. Link HERE

I'm just going to throw some Q&A here. Definitely read all the answers on Reddit link in first post. v4nd4r Can we expect improved performance for the standalone-game or should people with weaker computers who can barely play the mod start spending money on their pcs? Rocket performance will be much better. Quantum_ForceShots What is your best estimate for the standalone release date? Rocket Before the end of the working year (2012) kondo_san Will the Stand-alone version run on the ARMA 2 or ARMA 3 engine? Rocket It will run on its own branch of Real Virtuality potpie2004 If he hasn't answered it yet, I would like to know if the Dayz mod will continue to be updated after the new standalone is released or in the process of beta. Rocket Yes, the mod will be much more open than it is now - allowing more projects like Lingor and more freedom for server administrators. The game development will draw ideas off this pool and develop a more standardized experience. c6030315 This may sound a tad rude, but many people agree: ARMA II was poorly optimized which causes many of us to get poor FPS. Has this been addressed in the new engine for the standalone? Rocket I wouldn't agree ArmA2 is poorly optimized. But yes, it is not optimized for the purposes of something like DayZ, and that is easy enough to address as a standalone. will1993 How many players do you aim to have supported per server when the game reaches standalone, also will chernarus be discontinued for a new map? Rocket Chernarus Plus will come with DayZ standalone. 100-200 players is easily achievable. CleanWestwood I'd like to know if he has any plans for the hacks that's corrupting the game, or does he not care because its just an alpha Rocket It is something that we can deal with in the standalone. You'll never stop hacking completely, but we just keep vigilant with it and don't ignore it. Hecubah Do we have to pay for the standalone if we paid for ArmA II and Combined Operations? Not that its a problem, DayZ is awesome! Rocket Yes, you will. But it will be very cheap ! TheyCallMeTheFlower How much of the profits did YOU receive through DayZ rising so high in popularity. Did BiS pay you? I'm sure they hired you now though. Rocket I do not receive profits from ArmA2. But I am employed at Bohemia and I love it here. Did you also think of trading items or NPC Survivors? deadtimee Did you also think of trading items or NPC Survivors? Rocket No NPC survivors. adrianadrian Any plans to make more buildings accessible in the near future? Rocket Yes. On initial release of the standalone. Confirmed and already in the current standalone build. gee85 Will hand combat be introduced? Rocket Yes

Totally lost any faith I had in Rocket/dev team

They don't use animal animation for zombies but animal AI. -

strangere replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Too bad man you paid for Arma and you got what you paid for. You will have to pay again for standalone. Just Because you bought Arma just for Dayz doesn't change anything. You can try to sue them but you will not win because you got what you paid for. -
DO SOMETHING AGAINST THE HACKERS
strangere replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Go read THIS -
They would need at least 2 years to create whole new map. It's probably going to be changed Chernarus. All enterable buildings are already in Takistan so yeah...

B.I. doesn't give a shit about you...
strangere replied to YouCan'tGetRidOfMe's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No you are wrong, they fix Arma multiplayer and because dayz is arma multiplayer they fix dayz. A lot of thing in beta patches where there just for dayz. They just don't write things like "this fix is for dayz" in theyr logs but they fix a lot of things. Get a clue stupid -
1.62 = all glass now show as heat with thermal gun
strangere replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
go read it you can't see through window (or clear image) with thermal... you will just see heat -
1.62 = all glass now show as heat with thermal gun
strangere replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
" Because the thermal IR cameras do not operate in the visible light spectrum, it detects heat, so if pointed at a window, it will give you an image of the surface temperature, which will just show an image of the window. If you are near the window you may see a reflection of yourself, this is not a light reflection, this would be the heat bouncing from you to the window," -
HackZ: My experiences with DayZ over the past month
strangere replied to Machinaeclipse's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Read what i wrote earlier it's not engine problem. And most of the time it's not Bohemia problem. Script detection is Battleye thing... -
HackZ: My experiences with DayZ over the past month
strangere replied to Machinaeclipse's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Its not engine problem. You could just "Lock" everything down so people couldn't using scripts(that's the hacking you talking about) Again people bitching about engine when talking about totally different things. -
Hacker ported everyone on server to Balota...
strangere replied to ctrain46's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You can't just "fix" this because you can easily mod Arma. Thanks to that you can have mods like Dayz bud you can easily hack (using scripts). It's mainly Battleye problem -
Will stand alone make Mod obsolete?
strangere replied to schlong's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
From Gamespay Link HERE Designer Dean Hall, who says he won't be able to dedicate the time and effort needed to accommodate DayZ's nearly 1-million strong and growing community for much longer. In order to survive, it must evolve into a paid, standalone game, something Hall says he believes can happen within the next few months. -
Will stand alone make Mod obsolete?
strangere replied to schlong's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yes that what i meant. I think that you could play it, but there wont be any new patches as Rocket, with his small team, will focus on standalone. -
Will stand alone make Mod obsolete?
strangere replied to schlong's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I doubt it will be fully supported because maker of dayz will be doing standalone.... -
Will stand alone make Mod obsolete?
strangere replied to schlong's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Not this again you realise that Rocket (maker of Dayz) is working for BI and worked for them before Dayz came out. And yes you bought Arma not dayz if standalone comes out you have to pay for it. It was known that there will be standalone you should just wait for it. And stop insulting people with elitist comments they just told you how it is...
