Zombie Awareness/Respawning (May help with KOS mentality a bit)
Duckman404 replied to striker75's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Yes yes yes. Gunshots are friggin LOUD in real life. A gunshot is likely to be the loudest thing a normal human will hear in their lifetime' date=' in fact. Currently, I think the way zombies detect players is quite balanced and realistic at the moment; they hear alright, and their eyesight isn't too good, but they're mindless infected humans, so they can be forgiven if they miss someone slowly crouch-walking by. What I wouldn't mind is half a town's worth of zombies going to [i']investigate the gunshot, rather than immediately locking onto a player and speeding in like a homing missile. And the current sound radius of pistols is, in my opinion, way too small. Pistols are still very loud, yet very few zombies are drawn to me when firing one. No no no no no. Increase zombies spawn amounts' date=' reduce the respawn time a bit, and you've now made looting towns a group effort; it would create real incentives for players to band together and clear out a town, and once the town is clear, it means people can still wander around for a little while after expending a their hard earned ammo to get rid of those zeds. That's the exact opposite of what they do, and is fairly unrealistic. I've always been annoyed at the way zombies will spawn in a town, then wander outside, leaving the inside easy to loot but making getting out a matter of just going prone until you're far away. They should spawn in towns (since, y'know, that's where their homes are), but rather than wandering out into the fields for a picnic, the majority should keep wandering the streets, meaning that players looting a town actually have to watch out for zombies once they're inside. -

Then use a third party voice chat. Ask people you've met if they use one, or if you're on a server that advertises its Mumble or Teamspeak, then join that! It's easier and usually results in higher quality, less laggy audio, but it doesn't stop you from still using your mic in-game. It's a game. It's still in development, and there are many things that would promote cooperation that Rocket just hasn't made yet, such as player-built structures (think watch-towers, little buildings, tents you can walk in, maybe even storage lockers?) and an armband based faction system. Because it's an alpha, such large features have simply not been created yet, because of the large amount of effort required to code them. So if you want to meet up with people, cooperate, and get into a group, do it the way everyone else is doing; through forums, group chats, and third party voice chats. The game Rocket is building is nowhere near finished, and yes, in it's current state there is very little incentive to cooperate! Everyone knows that! Rocket knows this! Guess what? Most of the time, you're going to get shot at by players that trust no one, or players who want your beans. The current spawn system where you start with nothing has significantly reduced this. There will be more things in the future that will further reduce this, and promote groups and cooperation. Right now, whining on a forum about it isn't going to help. Go find some groups if you want to work in a team; it's not that hard, but it yes, does require the use of things other than in-game direct chat. That's just how things are at the moment. If you want to keep playing how you are, which seems to result in getting yourself shot, then by all means, keep playing. Just don't expect everyone else to start skipping through the fields, hand-in-hand. -
This would be ideal, since at the moment eating an entire cow and a shelf of beans to gain blood in ten seconds is just completely ridiculous, but it's something that we all have to do at some point. Having a regeneration system where meat and water gives a slight buff to how fast you regenerate would also be nice, since meat is full of iron and soda isn't the ideal stuff to drink when you need salt and hydration. Tying it in with the infection bleed rate would be good, too; you could temporarily counteract an infection by eating a hot meal (and I know I feel better after some hot food), but it doesn't fix the infection. +1 to regen.

I doubt that's true. For one thing, he'd need to re-do the current inventory screen. He'd also need to add a whole new section for things going in the vest pouch, which I suspect would increase server strain as well, which would require time spent optimizing the system. While I like the idea in some respects, it would indeed take the focus off careful selection of survival equipment, or making a base, and instead turn you into a walking camping tent.

Really? I'm surprised DMR magazines can't be converted into FAL magazines; they both have 20 rounds, and use the same 7.62x51mm NATO round, but one is much rarer than the other.

This is what happens when you post your opinion here
Duckman404 replied to fml's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hey, remember back when we had bandit skins? How everyone would shoot a bandit on sight? Even when that person was a 'bandit' because he had been shot at by some twitchy survivor and had to shoot back? Yeah, having a bandit skin swings both ways; the moment you end up as a bandit, either through intentional survivor killing, or self defense, or even an accident, you become a great big walking target to just about everyone. Playing 'tactfully' (I think you mean tactically, or perhaps forgivingly?) does work out if you do it right; talking to other people before running up to them allows you to, you know, learn their intentions. The only places I've been shot on sight since they removed the bandit skin are at airstrip, NW airfield, cherno, and elektro. Clearly OP has bad luck and, judging from the video, a lack of common sense too. Yes, there are players out there who have nothing better to do than kill other players. They're pretty easy to deal with; either avoid the guy with the DMR sitting on the roof of Devil's Castle, or travel through the woods so that you don't get sniped while running across the fields near Stary Sobor. -
Do they include the side effect of stomach cramps and eventual constipation?

Hotfix Build 1.7.1.5 Rolling Update
Duckman404 replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Is it at all possible to make it so that monkeys or crawlers can't get past barbed wire or sandbags? I can understand the walkers being able to step over those obstacles, but at the moment the only use for barbed wire or sandbags is to annoy other players, since they're so damn hard to remove! -
Hotfix Build 1.7.1.5 Rolling Update
Duckman404 replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Oh good, I was worrying about my primary weapon being disintegrated by the hatchet I had in my toolbelt, which is why I stuck with 1.7.1.1! Now I can finally update without worrying! -
Add that fuking unzipping bag sounds finally PLEASE!!!

The doors at my apartment doesn't make any noise oO. Maintenance is the word. Maintenance Zombie apocalypse Choose one of the above :P -
I'm not sure if it's still a bug in 1.7.1.4, but yesterday on a 1.7.1.1 server me and my friend were able to see every zombie, corpse, and animal with the peripheral vision dots right in front of our eyes. By that, I mean that the white blobs were actually floating in front of the target's chests; we could see zombies in another town, or behind buildings, but it hasn't occurred in any other servers we've been on.

Starting gear - Morphine instead of Painkillers?
Duckman404 replied to ChuckGeller's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I personally think morphine should be replaced or supplemented with some sort of splinting system. At the moment, having what is essentially a higher dose of painkillers somehow fix a broken bone is kinda silly. That said, the amount of things you can break your bones on is also kinda silly. -
Please read rocket, food and water
Duckman404 replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
An increase in the spawn rate of knives and matches would be just fine, if it meant making food a priority. I personally had more fun than I have had in a while thanks to the 1.7.1.1 patch, where things like food and water only spawned on zeds (which meant I had to actually shoot them without provocation!). It made hunting and searching for water sources all that more important, and quite fun, since it means having to go into towns to stock up on food is less of a concern, and the rate at which animals spawn and the amount of meat they give is just perfect for a hunter to survive. There's also the fact that soft drink is kinda good at dehydrating you; along with reducing the amount of food and water, I wouldn't mind seeing soft drinks give much less hydration when you drink them. -
I actually haven't had more fun in a few weeks than I did when 1.7.1.1 came out. No food, no drinks, so I had to kill zombies and harvest food off of them. The lifesaver was finding a water bottle on one of them; with that, and some hunting gear, me and a friend were able to get by through hunting in the woods, searching deer stands for gear, and resupplying our precious water at lakes.

One time at night in Stary, me and a buddy were investigating the tents; me on the northern ones, him on the southern ones. Then, just as we're about halfway down them, my buddy hears a shot ring out from the hill north of the tents. We both dive into our respective tents. I'm covered quite well in mine, but he's got an open view of the hill, and thus the sniper. My friend begins taking shots at the sniper with his CZ 550, while I cover his ass from the swarm of zombies coming towards us and any possible players by with my AKM, since I'm in the tent opposite him. Then a second guy turns up; I can't see what's going on, but my buddy gets through about three mags worth of ammo as he peppers the two snipers with CZ 550 shots, but the enemy sniper lands a hit. I have to dash to my buddy's tent, heal him and give painkillers, as well as fighting off zeds with my PDW, while he manages to kill the sniper and send the second guy running off into the woods. After scouting around for the second guy, we finally loot the sniper's corpse, and my buddy ended up with his very first DMR.

It's possible that the way Rocket made players stay in-game for 5 seconds after they disconnect involves handing over the player body to an AI, which means you'd be shooting friendlies.

Not sure if this is a bug or a feature
Duckman404 replied to toshiba's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yup, this has happened to me plenty of times before, definitely a bug. Just wait it out; my best suggestion would be to always disconnect in a safe spot where you're hidden, so that if this happens you don't get found and shot. -
Possibly, if it has strong enough hardware. The iMacs tend to use lower-end hardware in them, so you'd probably be running DayZ/ARMA 2 on low settings.

Careful not to RANDOMLY DIE during this "HOTFIX"
Duckman404 replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Oh, I thought it was hackers who were randomly killing me! Turns out it's a bug. In any case, my friend and I are using a buddy system; never log out too far from each other, so that if one of us gets buttfucked by this glitch or bug or a random hacker, the other can help. -

Can we have more weapons plox?
Duckman404 replied to james2464's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Considering that the Winchester is actually a rifle that fires a relatively powerful .44-40 cartridge (they just haven't got around to renaming it yet), I think 100 yards is easily within the lethal range for it. Rather than adding more military weapons, I'd love to see improvements on the current ones and inclusion of .22 LR rifles and more bolt action rifles (maybe ones with animations, instead of generic 'gun is moving around and making sounds'). That said, this really should be in the suggestions subforum.
