Yup, sure, I love the idea of putting my ALICE pack on the ground every time I want to grab something from it, then watch it disappear or be unable to be picked up...

Makeshift/temporary suppressors for pistols
Duckman404 replied to UbiquitousBadGuy's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Oil can suppressors are the only thing I can think of that'd make a pistol about as quiet as a normally suppressed pistol. It'd work well with rifles, too, to muffle the initial BANG of them, but you wouldn't get rid of the supersonic crack. They also work for a good few rounds, perhaps as many as 50 or 100 depending on the pistol. The Makarov and M1911 would both work nicely, the M9 and PDW would have the supersonic crack unless using SD rounds, and the Revolver would not be able to be suppressed. I like this idea, but I think it should require the Toolkit to do. -
Indeed.

God no. That's what the 'shock' state is for' date=' and I think that's enough to 'punish' the people who try to log out [i']after a fight. Forcing people to have to play the game OR ELSE is just a bad idea, because this thing called Real Life tends to get in the way for many people. If you want to fight the combat loggers, there's only two things you need to do: give a 15 second countdown for normal disconnects. Give a 60 second countdown for someone who's either fired a shot, or is bleeding, or has zombie aggro. Each shot fired resets the countdown. I'd like it if people's locations were saved server-side, but that removes a great deal of persistence from the game. Alternatively, make it so that people who logged off in or on top of buildings are teleported somewhere on the ground nearby. This prevents people ghosting through barbed wire (which needs its hitbox resized, anyway), and makes it difficult for them to warp around and camp places.

Yes, this would be very nice. I've been in plenty of servers where I've seen 'Survivor was killed', then a minute later, 'Survivor was killed', and it happens about 10 times before Survivor eventually ends up at Elektro or Cherno. I'll admit I've used this tactic as well, but mostly because my friends and I were having a little war going on in Elektro and the enemy were doing just the same thing. It makes things too easy to just respawn until you're at the place you want to be, and I have no doubt it's part of the reason the average life expectancy is so low at the moment.

Petition to add the Mosin Nagant to Day Z
Duckman404 replied to Kophka's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
If you want to nitpicking AKM isn't AK-47. It's modernized version of it aka. Avtomat Kalashnikova Modernizirovanniy or "Kalashnikov's modernized automatic rifle". Though with quick googling AKM is the most common AK. Anyways instead of having mostly american weapons there should be much more eastern weapons. As example RPK as eastern mg niche? RPK, RPD, PKM, SKS, SVT-40, PPSh-41, Degtyaryov DP, VSS, OSV-96... There's plenty of russian weapons that could be included to either replace or be the equivalent of the American weapons. However, I've always imagined Chernarus as being an American-occupied country before the outbreak of the zombie virus, which is why there's so many crashed humvees, empty barracks, and crashed helicopters lying around. -

I wouldn't call it useless at all, especially for those of us who haven't some high end military loot, like an L85 or NVGs. Even with the gamma set to 2.0, it gets very hard to see at night, and flashlights make life a hell of a lot easier for either the newly spawned player, or someone who just hasn't come across good military spawns.

I think only being able to attach your flashlight to a primary weapon would work, maybe by combining a bandage and a flashlight? Replacing batteries could work by right clicking on the electrical device and selecting 'replace batteries', of course, but before any of this can happen, Rocket needs to make magazine capacity stay consistent. For example, you might have a half charged AA battery in your inventory. When you disconnect and reconnect, it'd be fully charged, because ARMA would treat it just the same as a magazine.

I like this a lot. It encourages cooperation' date=' and for the lone wolf, check deer stands and hospitals and [i']always try to have 1 morphine on you.
-
I have a theory here. The broken bone icon isn't your bone: it's your dick. Have you seen the zombie hit animation? Half the time they're aiming punches straight at the crotch! They break your dick. Of course, only a hefty shot of morphine will cure such a debilitating problem.
-
I've had this happen plenty of times, personally. It'll either happen after I've had a broken bone (but no shock icon), or after I've had to wait for a timer to go down after being knocked down (again, still no shock icon). The shock / unconsciousness system is a bit broken at the moment.

NY14 (hosted by Africanized Bees), tents and cars not saving properly.
Duckman404 posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Well, I hope I'm not complaining about something that is just a problem with DayZ, but here's what's going on. On NY14, a veteran server hosted by Africanized Bees, my group has been having a recurring problem with tents and cars not saving properly after a server restart. Sometimes the cars will reset with much better health than we left them on; a yellow ENG light would be green the next day, or windscreens would be magically repaired. They still appear in the same location, though. Other times, our tents would be completely empty after a reset, despite making sure we've hit 'save old camping tent' multiple times. The same goes for vehicles; occasionally we'll put items in a vehicle, and they'll be gone after a reset. The server is made to reset every 12 hours, so I'm not sure if that's part of the problem. I guess I'd just like to know whether this is a problem with all servers, whether it can be fixed by some server admin magic, or if my friends and I should be storing our gear in a more reliable fashion? -

Yup, and that's why I decided to put our best, most important gear in a couple of camping tents, spam 'save old camping tent', then leave for the night. Turns out our Ural is more reliable. -

What's strange is that the damaged vehicle we had was respawned on full health, but with nothing in it, while the other two vehicles that had taken no damage were respawned with all the gear in them. I'd appreciate this being looked in to, at least so it doesn't happen in the future. For now, I guess my group will just have to find another server to store equipment on. -
I'd say the temperature system could use a bit of working over as well. Right now, the only time I've lost temperature is from running around at night in the freezing rain. The only time you should not lose temperature is when the sun is up. If it's raining in day, slow temp loss. Night time? Slow temp loss, gradually increasing as it gets deeper into the night. Mornings would still be pretty chilly, too. Rain and night time would make even the most seasoned of campers stay indoors or near a fireplace, so it should cause a sharp drop in temperature. Not to mention the whole temperature meter thing being at 42 C is kinda weird. I thought at first it was because Rocket was American and didn't convert from F to C properly, but then I heard his accent; definitely Australian or NZ, so I don't know any more. Average body temp should be 36 C or something, not 42 C. Once you get to, say, 5 degrees, you start shivering, and exertion (running for a long time) can increase chance of sickness. -5 degrees and you'll get lethargic, and at -15 you're almost guaranteed to get sick, and you start to shiver badly, take damage from frostbite, and risk passing out. Other than that, I think the amount of blood you gain should have a bit of a buff from iron-rich food (steak, when you're above 100 satiation, might make you regen at 2-2.5 HP per second, rather than 1.5), and maybe the inclusion of energy bars and snack food could give you a large or small amount of satiation respectively, but not increase your blood regen rate all that much. Just my 2 cents.

Have it despawn after a day or two, and that'd make it a reasonable idea!
-
I'd say 50 per minute is a bit low, considering how fast paced the game is. I mean, that's more than a minute to regenerate about a second of bleeding; consider how much you bleed from a deep scratch (which is all the zombies are really inflicting), that seems like a pretty low rate of regeneration. I'm not sure, but do gunshot wounds cause worse bleeding?
