Third person view removal from SA discussion
serenityrick replied to lev's topic in General Discussion
It won't tank. What a bunch of sensationalized BS. You have some posters here threatening to leave the game if it's changed to first person only but I guarantee none of them actually leave. They'll force themselves to play it and within an hour they'll be totally used to it. Again, what people don't understand is that people like me and bad_mojo aren't trying to force a playstyle over the other.. it's arguing that the 3rd person view is absolutely wrong for a survival game. It completely takes out the risk factor of turning a corner haphazardly and running into another player or zombie. It has as much to do with ambiance as it does with the PvP 'cheapness' aspect of basically wall hacking. As what has been said multiple times, it's doing what's best for the game as a whole. Frankly, the fact that some people like looking at their character as it animates in the world isn't and shouldn't be a valid reason for keeping something so cheap in the game. It would be servers giving you the choice to see how much ammo you have, health, blood, hunger, thirst, player tags, etc on screen versus a "hardcore" server that has none of that (which is what we have now).. And then everyone piles into the former because it's easier despite being cheap.. And then you guys say "Well just go into the hardcore servers, what's the big deal?" despite the hardcore servers being complete ghost towns because people will always always ALWAYS join popular servers over their preferred server settings. In short.. it sucks for people like us. During PRIME TIME hours on Saturday (last night), the most populated 3PP:OFF server that I could find at 17 people in it. It's only been a few days since they were implemented and they are already becoming extinct. -

I am one of the staunch 1st person only people.. but this would be a PERFECT solution. I would be totally comfortable playing on 3PP:ON servers if this was implemented. Please make it happen, Rocket -

Sigh. It was promising at first.. I Favorited several full 3PP:OFF servers once they went live and now, only a few days later they are either empty or have been switched back over to 3PP:ON This honestly sucks. -

Why Mouse Acceleration and Responsiveness desperately needs Fixing
serenityrick replied to 27 others's topic in General Discussion
I feel like I'm the only first person player who has no trouble looting a house. Start looking your head around (alt-key) instead of turning your entire body to look around you. The reason mouse acceleration exists right now is that the devs don't want this game to become a twitch shooter. Is that the best solution? Probably not.. but there is a reason for it. It's because they don't want bunny hoppers and 360 no scopers dominating the game. You have to be meticulous and careful in this game. It's not a deathmatch. You're not just a floating head like in other FPS games.. you're moving an entire body. -
Who said that it wasn't? When compared to $5 million+ like a lot of people speculate, it's not.
-
Why not? Look at how many people commit suicide if they dont like their spawn location. That's why not.

He hasn't actually made that much. You have employers, employees, publishers fees, taxes, rent, utilities... there's a lot that goes into a business than just straight profit. I'm sure Rocket isn't exactly poor but I always have a chuckle when people simply use a calculator to multiply sales x price of product to try and figure out how much someone makes.

Medical system for DayZ Part 1 – Self-treatment of wounds:
serenityrick replied to Roshi (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
More ideas: If someone in your group is shot multiple times and passes out this is how it should shake out: You and a friend run up to your injured team member and you see the following menu options: Gear Examine arm wound Examine leg wound So you tell your friend "alright, I'll take the arm, you take the leg". You select the arm and you get the following information in the bottom left corner: "It's bleeding. There is no exit wound." Your friend selects the leg and sees "It's bleeding. There is an exit wound" First you remove his shirt and sterilize your pliers (and hands?) and attempt to remove the bullet. Meanwhile your friend removes the pants and tends to the leg and simply applies alcohol tincture to clean the wound and bandages it. By removing the bullet, a little more blood is lost but the long term effect will be worth it. Once removed, you can simply bandage the wound and begin to nurse your shot up friend back to health. Would that not be awesome? And it seems completely doable within the current system. I think the only thing you'd have to add is the ability to see a visual of the wounds if you're treating someone else (similar to your idea of being able to see them on your inventory screen). Would be awesome to have two people be able to treat an injured player at once if there is more than one injury My bad man! Didn't mean to hijack it then, haha -
Medical system for DayZ Part 1 – Self-treatment of wounds:
serenityrick replied to Roshi (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
The whole bandage over clothes point is a good one. A good solution would be that you actually have to take off pieces of clothing in order to treat wounds which would be pretty good actually: Twisted ankle: Remove boots Leg injury: Remove pants Torso/Arm injury: Remove shirt/jacket/combat vest Head injury: Remove helmet/mask/hat Would make for some intense situations. Your friend was just mauled by a bunch of zombies and he's fading fast and you're yelling "Take your jacket off! Hurry!" because you see he's bleeding from multiple locations on his chest and arms. Or if he passes out, you have to rip off his shirt in order to start treating him. Great thread OP. I approve. I especially love being able to examine wounds first. You can do many things with this system. For example your friend is shot and you examine his wound and it says something like "you can see something inside the wound" So rather than automatically bandaging it up, you could sterilize some pliers first and attempt to remove the bullet. By not removing the bullet, perhaps he has a permanent stamina reduction or gets sick more easily. -
The customization aspect of DayZ SA is pretty great. Choosing between a baseball cap, gasmask, Payday mask, Russian fuzzy hat (forget the name, haha), etc.. But at the moment, I'm pretty confident that most, if not all people drop their bright color clothing for the drab, preferably green clothing in order to camoflauge themselves. Which is a smart move but ultimately, since those green/gray/camo colors are so common, everyone eventually looks the same after about an hour of playing. At the moment, the only time you ever see someone in a bright yellow raincoat or pink hat is within the first 20 minutes of the game usually. People only wear them to get the extra space to put loot and swap them out as soon as they find a green raincoat or hoodie. So with all that said, should the more earthtone colored clothing/gear be rarer? So we have a more diverse, less military presence? Obviously I'm not saying they should be removed completely but I feel like in order to deck yourself out in all green/camo, it should take a while. Until then we'll see more people wearing orange and red and yellow and finding a drab piece of clothing would then become more exciting as you eventually gear your character to be less of a walking target. The obvious con of this would be bandits who are fully decked out being able to see their 'prey' a lot easier but is that drawback enough? As it stands, the bright colored clothing is basically useless save for the first half hour of a player's life before they swap it out for something green. Thoughts?

Make drab/dark/green/camo clothing more rare?
serenityrick replied to serenityrick's topic in General Discussion
I think people completely misunderstood my OP, haha. RIght now I actually think there is a good variety.. but whether it's a green raincoat, green shirt, green checked lumberjack shirt.. everyone would pick those colors over say, a red checked shirt. (I shouldn't say EVERYONE, as you said, some players will choose to give themselves more of a personality which is cool) It doesn't matter how many more options they add in terms of colors or styles, people will generally always pick the drab colors. It's like saying "Everyone loves tacos and that's all they eat!" and someone saying "well if once they add a bunch of burgers in addition to the tacos, it'll be fine" well.. no.. since they'll continue to eat the tacos no matter how many burgers are added to the buffet. Heh, that was a weird metaphor. But perhaps some people here are right. I just know that whenever I play I always grab whatever new clothing I can no matter what color.. and then when I find a more drab color (grey/brown/black/green) I'll ALWAYS switch out my red/blue/yellow/orange piece of clothing for it. I assume most people do that.. and you can get decked out in drab/earthtone clothing within an hour of playing leaving the brighter colored (frankly, more interesting) clothing in the dust. -
Make drab/dark/green/camo clothing more rare?
serenityrick replied to serenityrick's topic in General Discussion
Uh.. yeah. That's my point, haha. My question is should they be LESS common so that players have to deal with red/blue/orange/yellow clothing a little bit longer and make the drab/camo stuff more of a rare find? -
It's one of those things were that would be awesome to look over but it seems like keeping track of all that might cause a lot of extra stress to the server as it records every step you take. On the other hand, the server already has to do that every time you pick up an item or use an item so maybe just tucking away that information and compiling it for viewing later wouldn't really be that big of a deal? I do prefer your map over that reddit "heatmap" though.

Wouldn't mind the whole handgun and flashlight combo. Would love for them to make a separate stance/animation for it like this:

I'm sorry what were you talking about? I had to tend to my massive boner after seeing that beard *swoons*

Third person view removal from SA discussion
serenityrick replied to lev's topic in General Discussion
I don't think anyone who supports first person only would be defending the zoom to the extent that third person players defend their floating ghost cam do. Personally I can take or leave that zoom. It's not a big deal either way. Even if you see it as a cheap mechanism, it still abides by the rule of "If I can see you, you can see me". -
HARDCORE - 3PP:OFF server/tactics/general
serenityrick replied to wild_man's topic in General Discussion
Unless you're AFK, that would ONLY happen if you were not aware of zombies being able to clip through walls. Personally, if I'm indoors and I hear that I aggro'd a zombie, I immediately run outside to battle it out there. It's not a big deal and a pretty easy way to deal with that glitch until it's fixed. -
A patch that hasn't been implemented yet made the rubber banding worse? What?

I was sympathizing with you right up until that point. You're playing the game wrong.

Instead of giving beans there should be a button to "steal beans" from the OP.. Item degradation is seriously one of the best features the DayZ team added. It helps (or will help eventually once it's all working properly) curb the KoS mentality and it also gives you a little extra motivation to live: "I have a pristine M4 with all it's parts pristine and pristine bullets and a pristine bipod.. do I really want to risk a firefight here?" Not only that, it continues to give you a reason to hunt for things.. like if you found a can opener but it was *badly damaged*, you'll probably get excited to find a new can opener that's *pristine*. as your current can opener will probably break and become useless within a few more uses. The big one is definitely the bandit/KoS mentality though.. we'll see a lot more social encounters regarding PvP since bandits will hopefully not want to risk destroying everything you have by riddling you with bullets once the item quality actually starts making a difference. Honestly the only person who wouldnt like this is a KoS bandit.. I can't think of any other reason as to why a DayZ player wouldn't love this feature.

Think of the west (SW, W and NW) as the "endgame" of DayZ.. I say that because at the moment, the majority of military loot spawns are over there. Prior to the spawn changes, you could literally spawn right next to military base and kit yourself out within 10 minutes or less. There was no point in exploring or going anywhere else except to kill fresh spawns or camp a high traffic area. At the moment there's not a whole lot to do; can't find or fix a car, can't hunt, food and water that you find within 20 min will last you for hours, limitar crafting and no base building so I get that some people just want to find a weapon and kill people.. but I think they are trying to ween the playerbase from thinking of the game that way. If you want an M4 or Mosin you have to work for it and that may have you hoof it 40 minutes to the nearest military base. Just be happy that at the moment you can server hop to your hearts content so you can still gear yourself up rather easily (cheaply, I must add). The death match type players will be really upset once they implement a way to stop server hopping and nerf military loot spawns even more (hopefully). So seriously, enjoy this while it lasts.. it's not going to get easier.
-
And this attitude is why they need to either nix 3rd person completely for the good of the game or somehow fix the shit out of it. I certainly don't expect that to happen but this mindset sucks because most people feel that way. that they like 1st person but prefer more people in a server over a dead server... and then it just snowballs exponentially from there.

I personally like that it's not super accurate. I've never had a problem with it at close to medium range (like 100-150 yards or less).. The average person who has never fired a gun before would most likely not be able to hit a target at 200 yards in a standing position. Certainly not with any kind of consistency. The reason I like that it's not accurate at longer distances is that it makes for MUCH more interesting and intense firefights. If all the M4s had the accuracy of someone using a Mosin from the prone position there's be no reason to get a Mosin... engagements would end before they even start. If someone wants to take pot shots at me from 200 yards away with an M4, I may get hit or grazed once or twice but I usually have a lot of time to scramble to cover and then start firing back myself.. or retreating if I don't have a weapon. If you want to be as accurate as possible with the M4, get pristine parts and a pristine bipod and shoot from a prone position. You'll have much better luck. But this isn't Call of Duty or Battlefield 4.. you can't run around, peek out from a building and snipe people from 400 yards out with it. Get used to it.
