    Kill on Sight - Complaining

Except you're better off trying to rob them than killing them on sight since your bullets will degrade and even ruin the items on said victim. I mean.. if that's your actual motivation and not "hurr durr, let's just kill that guy for the lulz"

    Damn. Heart racing. (With pics!)

Yeah he even mentioned that he had ample opportunity to combat log but we both make an effort not to do that. Hell, when the guy killed me, I stayed logged in at the "you are dead screen" so he could loot my body if he wanted. (although, when you hit esc you can kind of see your dead body and I admit I let my sniper friend know when he was at my body trying to take stuff ;) He wasn't able to get a shot off though)

    Do supressors work?

Didn't work with me. When I use my M4 with a silencer every zombie in the area comes a-runnin'. With that said, my silencer is "badly damaged" so perhaps it flat out doesn't work when it gets that degraded.

    EDIT - double post, sorry!

    Damn. Heart racing. (With pics!)

I think they were pretty far away when they started to shoot at me with their M4s because like I said, the first shot I didn't even hear. I just heard the crack of the bullet as it whizzed by me which is why I thought it was my friend, haha. And from what I read on the forums, the M4 is wildly inaccurate at medium to long range in the SA.. But either way, whether they were bad shots or really far away to start,(or both), I'm glad for it so I could survive long enough to enjoy it!

And hindsight is always 20/20.. after seeing how twitchy they were, I should have backed off the flank. My original plan was to hopefully come up behind them and tell them not to move and then tie them up thinking they would be prone, careful and still.. hard to do that when they are running back and forth like chickens with their heads cut off. :P And unfortunately my friend was a bit too far away to make much of a difference with the Mozin with a broken scope :(
  9. Did you miss the whole "DO NOT BUY THIS IF YOU'RE NOT INTERESTED IN TESTING PRE-ALPHA CONTENT" messages that peppered and continue to pepper you every step of the way from deciding to buy the game, to buying the game and even loading into the game?

    Pistol Holster Idea

In theory you should be able to equip both the suggested items so you can have 2 side arms. One on your back (former pic) and one on your side (latter/police pic). EDIT - actually, looking at the pic again.. is the holster on your back or your side in that? Guess that would change things, haha The downside to having all this stuff (huge backpack, 2 side arm carries, heavier pants and shirt/jacket, large melee weapon and primary rifle) should either be that you're slower, get tired more easily, or have to eat/drink more often.. or all three. Would be cool to choose between being lean and mean so you can move around quicker or to be buff and slow but have every weapon imaginable on you, haha.

    Why is Podeba Dam gone?

I actually didn't realize they were adding new places to the standalone.. When I looked at a map of the standalone I saw a massive new town north west of Chernogorsk on the hill and it's awesome. Me and my friend spent hours there just exploring around.. and you get a GREAT view from the rooftops. The massive apartment buildings don't appear to have much or any loot in them at the moment but that place is great. Haven't noticed any other new places yet. Is there a list?

    Ruined items after PvP

This added feature to the game is among the best in my opinion. It promotes a bit more social activity rather than just killing on sight. Of course, the whole combat logging thing ruins it at the moment but it if you want someone's stuff, you're going to have to hunt them down and try and rob them.. and if they don't comply, then you have to try and hit them in the the head. I love this. It's a really great idea that I'm glad they added to the game. It doesn't necessarily solve the whole kill on sight thing, you'll ALWAYS have players like that. But today I found myself specifically not shooting at someone and tried stalking them to try and shout them down and rob them. But.. again, once he heard me when I was yelling at him, he combat logged. Once that's fixed, it's going to be great and churn out a TON of awesome DayZ stories of hostage taking gone wrong which is much better than "Oh hey, another player! Let's just fucking kill him."
  13. I love the idea of getting proficient in skills the longer you survive and the more you use items or do certain things. The first time you kill an animal and skin it and gut it should be a messy failure. You only get 1 piece of meat out of it, any leather you may have gained is tattered and useless. Second time; similar story. Third time, you get some leather. Fourth time you may fail again Fifth time you get more meat Sixth time you perfect it and get the max amount of meat and leather, etc etc. Same goes for bandages or anything medical related. While you can't flat out fail bandaging someone or giving someone pills, the more you use these the quicker you are at using them. Perhaps the more effective they are (at least in the case of bandages). Nothing super fancy or anything. There shouldn't even be a GUI for how much you've learned. You should just know "okay I've hunted quite a bit and I'm now really good at skinning and gutting animals". And the next time you're taken hostage, maybe you'll plead for your life a little bit more. Or be more careful around populated areas. Personally, i don't necessarily need something else to give me motivation to stay alive. Even if I'm taken hostage and I'm being robbed of everything I own and I know I'm just going to be executed at the end of it, I still play it out because it's fun. It's those type of stories that are fun to re-tell even if it ends badly. That may just be me though. But having a little bit extra motivation to want to live other than your gear, especially if you're being robbed, is a GREAT idea regardless.
  14. ...We both were shot dead. We probably had it coming though. US Server 171. Approx 10:45pm EST/EDT. ENE of Polana. My friend and I have both played this game before about two months ago back when it took about an hour just to log into a server and have your character created. We messed around a bit but ultimately we both agreed that we would wait to play again when the game was a bit more stabile. Right off the bat we cheated a bit (as I'm guessing most people do when wanting to play with a friend) by loading up an interactive map of Chernarus and trying to get our bearings so we could find eachother. After about a half hour or so we meet up, pick a spot and go exploring for supplies. Nothing too exciting happens in our adventure. We stick to the forests and treelines when we move so we never ran into anyone. After a couple hours of rummaging barns and houses we both have Enfield rifles, plenty of ammo, plenty of food, water, soda, bandages, painkillers along with a couple watches, axe and a toolbox. We were doing pretty good. Between the two of us we had close to 40 zombie kills as well :) Welp. After ransacking a high yield factory southeast of Polana we make our way north along the tree-line to check out a deer stand. From this hill we have a perfect vantage point of the town of Polana. My friend mentions that he saw unusual movement in the town that made him think that there weren't just zombies there. Sure enough we hear a single gunshot in the distance. We go prone in the tree line and we just stare at the town. A few minutes go by and we confirm that there is at least one survivor in the town.. a few seconds later and we see that he has a buddy with him. We wanted to stalk them and see what they were going to do and while we didn't exactly confirm to one another that we were going to kill them, we both knew that's what we were going to do. Unsure if they saw us in the tree line to the south, my buddy provides watch over the town while I make my way north along the tree line to flank them. My friend says that they are booking it as fast as they can to the forest where I projected to be within seconds. I bring up the iron sights of my enfield and begin my search. I pan my rifle to the right and out steps one of them from behind a tree with a handgun pointing right at me. In mid sentence I begin to yell to my friend "oh shit oh shit oh shit" and sprint back into the trees, zig zagging my way through. In hindsight I should have just shot him dead but I was kind of hoping he would say/type "friendly" and for a couple seconds in my retreat I figured that was the case as I didn't get any gunfire... But then he fired. He missed with each of his shots and I dove behind a rock relaying any information I could to my friend who was now flanking to the left. He finally creeps up to him on the other side of a tree and takes the guy out. I continue to flank to the right knowing that there was a second guy in the woods. After a couple minutes of not hearing or seeing anything, I assume that he ran away so I go back to my friend who is rummaging through the guy we just shot's stuff. As he's going through his pack and finding stuff we didn't have like a compass and matches and another map, I'm keeping my sights on the trees just in case this guy's friend didn't run away. But the dense foliage proved to be great camoflauge and a gunshot rings out and my friend says he's hit. Another shot and my friend is dead. I hit the deck and suddenly shots are firing past me. I keep scanning the woods but nothing.. I see some muzzle smoke among the bushes but I still don't know where the shots are coming from. Finally I'm hit. And I'm hit again... and again... and again... and we're dead. 3, almost 4 hours and it all ended so quickly. But damn was it fun/intense. Our mistake, other than pursuing these guys, was obvious after we died; We should have fallen back to keep watch on the body for a good 5 or 10 minutes to see if his friend would come back to take some of his stuff. Instead we were out in the open just next to the tree line just dicking around.. and while we were aware that we were still probably in danger, we didn't heed our intuition and ultimately that got us killed in the end. Sorry for the long story. it realize there are a lot more exciting stories from this game but I wanted to share our first real experience with the game :) It was great. And surprisingly we wanted to get right back into it despite losing hours of hard work.
