Should the Stinger Missile be added to counter the helicopters?
Paeyvn replied to Snakeyes1's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah, that wouldn't work so well I don't think. First thing I thought was this: -
And in a random act, instead of being shot like the OP asked for, someone ran up and morphined him, running away into the distance going "You got reverse mugged!" ^ I want to see this happen ^

They're honestly not that rare if you can regularly find crash sites or raid the NWAF barracks though I suppose you could get some tools traded for it if someone's out of ammo with their MK48 or M240 and desperately needs more. I've got like 20 boxes myself that I found over the last month and threw in a tent since I didn't have a gun for it...then I found like 3 MK 48s on 3 crash sites in a row, honestly have used maybe like 3-4 boxes at most.

Heh, sounds vaguely similar to my first experience playing. Random zombie swing broke my leg in Solnichniy where I spawned and I crawled about 3km before finally getting overwhelmed by zombies and killed as the only weapon I had was a CZ550 I found in a barn along the way...had to roll up the stairs sideways to get to it. If you ever find yourself in a bind, there's a whitelisted medic group on here that you can ask for help that'll run out and patch you up, though they have terms and conditions (no high pvp areas, etc). Can always make a post and see if anyone would help too, gotta be skeptical but if you don't have any guns or anything to lose, why not? You might get someone who actually would. If you're still in trouble atm, I'm bored and would be more than happy to come down and patch you up if you know where you are. I honestly don't mind high PvP areas like the coast either, getting shot at gets the blood pumping (hopefully still inside my body).

I've definitely heard my friends firing M4A1 CCO SDs from over 80 meters away. Aka I'm in the north barracks at the NWAF and they're just north of the firehouse on the other side of the industrial complex. It's not very silent to players, won't hear it over 100m away, but it's still quite noticeable. http://dayzdb.com/da...apon-comparison Outside of that MP5A6SD -> M9 SD -> PP-19 Bizon SD -> M4A1 CCO SD for order of quietest to loudest. Weapon comparison lists audible range only to zombies, players hear things differently.

Ever got shot a few seconds after logging in?
Paeyvn replied to invalidturkey's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've never had this happen so far, however I logged in at the same time as my friend who'd logged out 500m away from me across a field, he loaded in slightly before me and I heard him on TS going "Oh sh*t, dead bodies, i don't want to move!" I got in and looked over there with my binoculars and sure enough there were 2 dead bodies lying next to him. He got bored and moved after 5 minutes thinking it might be safe, and I watched him slump over in synch with a .50 cal shot through my binoculars. -
Had one earlier teleporting around the server behind people spam launching M203 grenades. Thankfully the admin shut the server down fast once the death streaks and havoc started going. You just run into them every now and again and there's not much you can do. Some people just want to see the world burn...

Eh, I've seen that happen a few times. I've watched friends log in in front of me to have them crater out of the sky and die, then appear on their corpse a few seconds later will everything still on them. I wouldn't worry about it, it's an alpha so bugs happen and finding them is actually one of the main purposes. If he logged off that server though, his body will have disappeared.

Yes they do, I've found about 5 in all my time playing, using one right now actually. People crap themselves when you start unloading it.

I can confirm oil barrel fires can cook meat, no matches needed for those. And there are about 3-4 of them I think in Cherno alone around the city you can use. I haven't had to get a blood bag in a week, food has been enough to keep me going. Supermarkets are amazing as well as cows.

Kicks by ping, and why its annoying
Paeyvn replied to blackout14@live.com's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
For years now I've played with friends in Australia in various different games and they are long time friends that I keep in touch with. Tried joining their servers tonight and having a ping of 153 is apparently way way way too much, irritated me. One of the things I find awesome about gaming is the international aspect of it. I agree wholeheartedly with the OP. -
They do not spawn, those were indeed hacked. Best bet is to drop the weapon.

I will never be a bandit. Survivor nice-guy stories
Paeyvn replied to IroquoisPliskin (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'll admit in my time playing I've shot a few people on sight and fired first, but generally I'm friendly and just avoid conflict if I can. My KOS rule applies to: Stary Sobor/NWAF, outside of that, you're good generally unless you threaten me. But this was back when I had just started playing, my second day in game. I roaming around down near Balota and Komarovo with my friend, who was also new to the game, we'd just had a shootout with some heavily armed guys sporting AKs/M4s, but we had won and I had a shiny new AKS-74 Kobra, my friend rocking an M4A1 that he'd had before the shootout (they were NOT friendly btw, they did not respond to calls and assumed threatening posture). But anyway, after that we head up to the airstrip and we're poking around the ATC, the main door of which was blocked by barbed wire, so we climbed up the ladder outside instead. Didn't find anything of note while crawling through the building, but I go downstairs and go to check the loot spawns down there, and as soon as I do, there's a guy hiding in a corner proclaiming, "Friendly friendly friendly!". Went on to talk to him a bit more, and he'd hidden down there when he heard us near the ATC, hoping hiding in the corner would keep him safe and he'd apparently just started playing today, first spawn. I ended up dropping my Makarov down on the ground with all 6 magazines it had and leaving it for him, before giving him some information on what we'd seen both players/items in the general area. After that he said his friend just spawned in near Elektro, also first day playing, and that he was going to go meet him. I wished him luck and we moved off. Unfortunately about 25 minutes later I saw "Jesse was killed", about the time he would have been passing through Cherno. RIP sir, and I hope your later adventures in Chernaurus have been more fortuitous. -
Um tough first day, any tips to starting with no weapon?
Paeyvn replied to tbs95's topic in New Player Discussion
Crouchwalk everywhere, stay 50m+ away from zombies unless their backs are turned. If you cross roads, do it while prone. Best tips I can give you early for avoiding zombies. As for dealing with them once they aggro: Run to the forest and sprint zigzag around trees, you'll lose their LoS and they'll drop aggro if you do it right. Other methods are: running up a steep hill (they climb horribly slowly), swimming away (they swim horribly slowly, but you can lose gear in the water doing this), or hopping fences and running around buildings to cut LoS. -
Is there a way to disable Post Processing?
Paeyvn replied to Comrade Mrki's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Strange, I've definitely been able to disable it in my options menu. Not sure on the ini route, but there might be some luck there, unfortunately I know nothing about it, haven't peeked around in those files. I can relate to the low fps issue though, my processor chokes up pretty bad sometimes and drops me to like 12, especially around cities. -
Yup, reloading in his face was the best part.

I wish you luck in your endeavors! I myself am somewhat of a hoarder, but mostly because I've been very active looting and cycling barracks spawns in the NWAF, not from banditry. I have had to defend myself from a few people, and admit I have a KoS policy at the airfield (comes from asking 2-3 people if they are friendly, only to have each of them instantly blast me). If I'm not at Stary/NWAF though, my policy is much more up in the air. I'll generally let someone move on as long as they don't threaten me. Right now though, I'm actually thinking of taking some of my spare weapons down towards the coast, finding random newbies, sniping zombies/bandits off of them, and either giving them the weapons directly or alternatively trying to preempt their search and drop it ahead of them. Guardian Angel style. I've given about a dozen weapons away to people who didn't shoot me on sight so far.

Myself, I would likely NOT have taken the shot. Only two situations really where I would have: 1) I'm starving/dehydrated and out of food/drink 2) I can confirm the target is a bandit (recognize name from previous banditry/saw him shoot a bunch of people previous) However, all bets are off if he looks at me. DON'T LOOK AT ME!

So, do people play this game or are there only NPC's?
Paeyvn replied to Sakeoe (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Lol, I literally have not ever once been to the NW airfield and NOT seen someone. Got into an epic firefight with another group of two survivors which went all along the hangars, partially into the woods outside the wall, in one of the industrial complex areas, and into/onto the firestation. Kept getting shots close or not landing fatal damage, they'd duck away and we'd lose sight, blood bags would be used. They'd get a shot off on my teammate, bandage up, move around to flank, etc. One of them nearly blew himself up with a grenade near the end, then got popped by my teammate who flanked behind. The last guy was on the top of the firestation at that point and I kept shifting position and shooting at him, he'd occasionally return fire but he always missed, close enough to give me shock though. He was very difficult to hit being prone and barely visible on high ground, but I finally landed a good 1-2 shots from FAL into him and he dropped. I didn't even get a kill message, but my murder count went up and I only realized after a few minutes more of flanking that he was already dead. -
Was running along towards Cherno to meet up with a friend of mine who just started playing as well to give him my hatchet so he could defend himself. Along the way I found an M4A1 and 2 magazines of ammo for it in the firestation just north of Elektro. So I'm running along west of Elektro at the time and I hear a fair number of shots ring out and I hit the dirt and crawl into a bush to look out down the hill to see what's going on. 3 survivors are down below surrounded by a fair number of zombies and fighting them off, I couldn't tell if they were grouped, all solo, hostile, or friendly, so I held my position and waited for 5 minutes watching them. They seemed mostly to be ignoring each other, but it almost seemed like they were somehow oblivious of the others in the group, so I took the cautious route. After they kill off all the zombies in the local area, they begin poking around in buildings and I lose track of two of them, but keep my eyes firmly following the last guy into a nearby farm. I slowly started making my way down the hill, killed a few zombies that respawned on me, and apparently was unnoticed by my mark. At this point I had decided they were likely friendly and figured I'd go venture into the building and see if I could open up a dialogue or find some table scraps...something. I get into the farmhouse, and the guy had exited the other side by the time I enter so I move to the other side and peek out cautiously. It's about this time that I hear an engine in the distance and another player drives up in a truck and starts doing circles around the building the other survivor is currently in, honking the horn. A bunch of shots ring out and the driver falls out onto the ground and gets eaten by zombies. The survivor I had been following at this time peeks out around the corner and starts shooting at the zombies, then running from them, shooting them some more, etc. Basically he cleans the area and just when I think he's going to go in and loot, another survivor shows up, one of the others from before that was hanging out within a few meters of the other guy for those previous minutes. This new arrival immediately gets shot by my mark, and I had previously assumed they were friends. I was apparently wrong and was quite glad I had not wandered into an encounter earlier, but I sat and waited for the inevitable looting to take place. My mark slowly sauntered over to take his prize. I lined up a shot and dropped him. Got an alice pack, hunting knife, 5 raw meat, canteen, map, compass, and various medical supplies out of it. Unfortunately the car was wrecked during these shenanigans and I could not claim that as well.
