i love how people claim to know how people would react in an apocolypse... You need to watch the news more often, seriously. Take any first world country then: take away their electricitytake away their sheltertake away their foodtake away their waterEverytime a hurricane, flood, or earthquake hits a populated area, if the people aren't rounded up and fed by their government, they begin fighting among themselves for the essentials. Now in our scenario: There is no government - in any country. There is no salvationThere is no hope. You give humanity too much credit. the only reason we don't kill each other for Tacos, is we're not starving and have the Law to deter us. IF and WHEN the zombie apocalypse hits, if you think humanity wont turn on itself, then you will be on of those that does not make it.

July Round-up: "I want the alpha" < "I want the alpha to be good"
Bubbajones replied to SmashT's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
We finally have a game developer with morals, values, and honor and what does the community do? They cry and whine to get an unfinished buggy pre-alpha... This is what happens when you give 12-year-old boys access to a keyboard. "i wantz it nowz!" "LOLZ, what is this buggy crapzorz!?!?" take your time and do it right, Rocket. -

That's a pretty bold statement. As much as i love DayZ, they didn't invent "afraid to die". There are other games that have full loot drops: Eve online and Mortal Online - just to name a couple. these games are very harsh on the losers. Dayz is harsh too, but seriously, downtime is minimal; it takes 15 minutes to gear up enough to be a threat and take someone else's lootz. Dayz is special - very special - for a number of reasons, being afraid to die is not one of them.

SA - Will the MMO concept use dumbed down arma engine?
Bubbajones replied to JackWalsh's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Dean's references to architecture refer to client/server communication, control and reporting, not content or mechanics. As big mike mentioned the gutted code removed was for aspects of dayz that were dead weight. Zombies in dayzmod are Arma2 npc soldiers with skins so their code is filled with military related mechanics that are not required. -

E3 Expo - June 2013 - Interviews and Gameplay

i like the idea of a central server controlling the volume of loot available so high-end weapons will be limited and truly valuable to loot from others :) One question though: Lets say someone loots a unique or rare item then gets hit by a bus, moves on to another game or rage quits and never plays again? How will "hybernating loot" be managed? That uber-thermal scoped gun (or epic novel) could be collecting dust on a character that will never play again. -
Some kind of tangible rewards would be cool: for every 5 days your character survives, you re-spawn with an extra can of beans (up to a max of 3). If you gut 100 cows, you re-spawn with a hunting knife, etc.. 100 transfusions = starting bloodbag bandage 100 people = extra bandage these of course are random examples the trigger values are probably too low for are for example's sake.

Players should develop Mental illness
Bubbajones replied to TacticalTuna's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
People who request bandit avatars have audible and game-affecting conflicts of morality are basically stating that the avatars are being forced to do something they think is wrong. Right and wrong are subjective: In ancient many civilizations (ancient Rome, for example), people had no issue whatsoever with the killing of slaves when they did wrong. Today it is wrong, 1000 years ago, killing a slave (who wasn't a citizen of Rome), wasn't. Soldiers kill the enemy; my Grandfather stormed the beaches of Normandy and i can only guess what he witnessed in his experiences, but it didn't drive him mad - because he felt he had to do what he had to do to survive a war he had to fight. Who are we to decide how other people play their avatars? Who are we to decide how their avatars view the zombie apocalypse? Who are we to force our morality on everyone through game systems? "Thou hast murdered, Thou shalt babble to thine imaginary goat and randomly shooteth the sun for looking at you funny." - Jesus H. Christ Imposing your personal opinion of how being a murderer may affect you on another person is borderline retarded. Who is to say that someone who murders for thrill has any kind of tangible mental issues. Just because you would be conflicted to do something you think is wrong doesn't make it a viable game mechanic to force on everyone. There is no argument in this thread that can justify forcing fictional avatars to feel or behave in certain ways because some people can't comprehend that these fictional characters, placed in a situation of absolute survival and constant threat, can do things without feeling guilt. End of story. -
Players should develop Mental illness
Bubbajones replied to TacticalTuna's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Penalizing bandits with in-game afflictions, mental disorders, etc..., is a poor idea that only makes the butthurt feel vindicated while gimping a percentage of the player-base for playing the role of bandit. nerfing one play-style to make another play-style feel better/safer has never been a good thing - in any game. -
I think the Standalone will be fantastic, no matter what the other threads say.

umm..what? i was asking for clarification...

Do you mean you can only join a server once and if you die you can't play on it anymore? That would mean you would only have a limited number of times you could play the game before you're stuck with 300+ping servers from Madagascar - not good (for players, or business). if that isn't what you meant, what is the difference between perma death and the current system where the only thing that you keep after dying is your name? that is pretty hard core as-is.

Zombies ignoring/not attacking
Bubbajones replied to johnymst's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
you in a ghillie suit? sometimes the stealth bonuses given by ghillies make you a real ninja. -
well, you aren't really a bandit if you're not doing anything "wrong"... so it makes sense. You can think of yourself as a bandit, if it makes you feel better :)

Slowed down zombies mode. (Possible for SA?)
Bubbajones replied to Naike's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Loitering means hanging around and doing nothing...like kids in a shopping mall. That is clearly not his fastest speed, it is his slowest. For those who english is a second language, here is the definition: Loitering: Stand or wait around idly or without apparent purpose. Travel indolently and with frequent pauses: "they loitered along in the sunshine, stopping at the least excuse". -
thanks for the info. i didnt know that.

Will Snipers Be Removed Or At Least Tweaked In S.A?
Bubbajones replied to Pokerguy12's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
ok, maybe 1000m is exaggerated (maybe 500m is good). Elevation and topography should play a role in it as well ( if technically feasible). I wouldn't expect them to run to the exact spot where the shot came from but at least run in frenzied mode until they were within 100m of it, then start searching the area. the problem in the mod is zombies only spawn near towns and buildings and only when other players are near. server-side zombies couple with random wilderness ones would increase the likelihood of drawing attention. the main point i am trying to make is if loud noise, be it gunshots, vehicles, explosions, etc..., were to be a much more dangerous thing to survivors, sniping would be much riskier and less likely. Note: In The Walking dead when the helicopter flying over a city causes the entire zombie population to migrate in the direction it flew (but on a much smaller scale) is what i see being cool gameplay. imagine crossing a field and seeing hundreds of infected trudging out of the field opposite the one you just entered.
