you don't get it. the guy won't log - which means he doesn't combat log, which means, regardless of the player's intent, the mechanic worked. do you want to punish people for their thoughts, or their actions?

Actually, its more like you left a town to log out in the woods. you begin the 30 second count down when someone bumps into you that you wren't expecting. this gives all players the chance to cancel the log out and fight back - not just the Combat loggers

i do agree with you. i was just expanding/clarifying that other games allow you to wait out the timer in game with the option to cancel.

age of conan had a timer to log out whiel you were still in game. you watched it count down with your guy sitting down. you could choose to wait and watch it count down. you have the option to cancel it at anytime. or you could choose to exit while the timer is counting down and your avatar will continue to sit until the 30s has passed. in that time. you cannot join any other servers as you still exist on one. it's so freakin simple... well a cave man could do it! seriously. these simple steps combined with server change frequency detection and a hopping penalties will GREATLY reduce ghosting and combat logging. anyone who doesn't see that, or want that IS either obtuse, or a ghosting/server hopper themselves.

age of conan and SWG had the same thing and it worked very well.

log out of one server = 30s log into another server = 60s-120s (due to loading times) ghost around the guy = ? say 5 minutes log out of that server 30s hopper penalty = 5 minutes log into old server 60s-120s result = minimum time to ghost someone 8-10 minutes out of game. if you still manage to catch the guy after all that? you win. not to mention the minute your vulnerable logging out.

never had an issue with it becuase i dont spend my game sessions slapping balls with pvpers in balota. but thanks for the well wishes!

started up a character on a hardcore server the other day to have geared avatars on both to participate with my clan on whatever they choose to play. in two sessions of play (maybe 2-3 hours): i am healthy, well fed, have a canteen, some brown and green clothes, a fire axe, a mosin with no ammo (yet) i am slowly working my way northwest and i have not had to server hop once. The servers i join often restart 10-20 minutes after i join so loot is respawned at a regular rate. i didn't feel the need to run along the coast and rub balls with the pvpers. i am enjoying the game and gathering my loot methodically and having a great time. If i were playing dayz ONLY for the ball slapping on the coast, i would be whining too. *spelling

i would just love to be able to use a few of the cabinets in the hundred's of houses on the map.... make cabinets and shelves containers people can place stuff in. maybe some lucky players hits the jackpot when they find a player stash. combine it with traps and you have a fun game :)

when you log out, your avatar stays in game for 30 seconds - defenseless against players that are pursuing you, or zombies that aggroed you. The way i see it - as most people have the reading comprehension of rotten kiwi, they will combat log, get shot as they're still there for 30 seconds then whine on this forum that they logged in dead. those tears will be the most delicious :)

if you uninstall the game, delete the game folder or it wont ask where you want it. C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\Dayz then when you go to reinstall the game a window which shows the default directory will appear and you can change it there. photobucket is down so i cant link a screenshot. give it a try.
