  1. cant find you on steam mate. add me - Kalashnikov96
  2. Yeah, do you guys have skype or anything? If not then depending on the server could use teamspeak. I've got my skype on my profile for this forum :) I'm on randomly but not got college or work so I have plenty of free time.
  3. Everything's just too basic and easy to get so I find myself getting really bored and just don't see the point of playing much anymore. I think the big problem is that loot isn't a problem. It wouldn't make much sense but from a gameplay perspective it'd be great to have specific buildings spawn only specific loot and have these buildings scattered around the map. So people are forced to move around the map and the player activity isn't so stale and restricted like it is now. Also making military loot far less common would mean that when you find good gear you want to keep it and are more inclined to survive because it will be hard to find again. Although I find these changes to be unlikely I think Day Z is in major need of them. More detailed loot variations would also be a plus, for example backpacks or outfits that have 'free slots' for certain items, binoculars with varied zoom etc. in more non essential detail... ATM it's basically a spawn-loot for essential tools (compass, matches...)-move north for military loot. Then after this you can either survive which is pathetically easy if you put your mind to it, kill/help other players or hoard loot. You can even skip the move north step if you find a good gun in the cities. It's tedious and not a great gameplay mechanic. This game is meant to be about surviving how you choose but the driving force to survive is the loot you have. I don't know what they have planned for stand alone in way of loot and I haven't heard anything about changes to make the map more useful but if something big isn't changed about the way it will work then the game simply wont be worth it. I'd like to just say that I have tired many different maps and mods but none of it really changes it up enough for me to get back into Day Z the way I used to.

Massive loot spawn and item overhaul

While I agree with most of what you said, this post was never about KoS bandits :L more about the fact that Day Z has gotten awfully stale and boring. One of the big reasons I thought, was loot. I hope bandits stay in the game but we need some incentive to want to keep our characters alive.
  5. So how do you play Day Z? Curious to hear, maybe give me some inspiration. Personally I've recently adopted a Robin Hood kind of approach - take from the rich give to the poor. Safe to say Day Z has gotten stale and this seemed like the best way to make it interesting again. So far I'm enjoying it. I hunt people in the north and then I'll pass gear down to bambi's, give away any vehicles I find. Preferably I'll kill bandits but if you've got good gear then I don't discriminate ;)

Massive loot spawn and item overhaul

I just remembered after this about characters gaining 'skills' or at least being more efficient at things as well. Hope that they've got something special planned :P
  7. I've started playing Day Z again and I'm usually just a survivor, not friendly to all but not KoS. However I wanna hunt some players! My main problem is finding them, I've tried being a bandit before and I would go on high pop servers obviously, I always move place to place but even if I'm going to Stary then NWA then NEAF more often than not I don't run into anyone. What tips do you have for an aspiring bandit? PS. I'd rather not just sit and camp the same place for ages, if it maybe helps to watch for 10 minutes then move on I could live with that but none of this sitting on a hill for hours on end. Also I ain't looking to kill Bambi's hence why I tend to stay away from the coast excluding Berezino.
  8. Okay It's been a while since I've posted here but this is by far going to be my best post. I want to keep this as concise as possible. First of all, I tried RamDisk, putting in alternate startup parameters, shutting of windows explorer, running game boosters and nothing worked. If you want highly improved performance download Ultimate Defrag, you get a free trial (not sure how long this performance will last before I need to defrag again but I'll post here when it starts to drop) 1. Once you've downloaded it run a "fragmented files only" this shouldn't take too long. 2. Now run it on "Auto", click options beforehand and pull the slider to optimum. This stage will take a good few hours so you're best to leave it before you go to bed or something. 3. Now go to tools-settings, click the "files and folders" box and add your entire Arma2 Folder to the list on the left. Once this is done run "File/Folder Name" with "Respect High Performance" and "Complete High performance then stop" selected in the options. This will likely take a few hours depending on the state of your hard drive! I managed to make my FPS go from 5-20 to a steady 40 with HIGH settings. I can actually run the game with AA, HDR, Antiostropic, Texture Quality all on High! EDIT: To perhaps dampen some of the scepticism I'll briefly explain how to my knowledge it works. Arma is very hard disk reliant and as we all know hard disks can become a messy place so by following the steps above it will re arrange files and in step 3 specifically Arma files for the fastest access. If you try this and your FPS still hasn't improved then please message me and I'll try and help. Also the options I have given are just what I did at first, since then I have fiddled with it a bit and tried some other things out. I recommend you read the user guide and maybe just google "DayZ Ultimate Defrag optimise"
  9. I don't think I stand alone when I say that Day Z 1.7.7 is the best update yet to the mod and the main reason for this is the difficulty. Zombies were pathetic before, I've just came back to Day Z and I'm trying out all the maps I've missed - Namalsk and Taviana are 2 great maps but since the custom maps haven't got the latest Day Z version it shows the huge contrast and vanilla is my favourite because zombies actually feel like a part of the game now! Before you could run past them without a care and they were only really a threat when they bugged and glitched through walls etc.. It makes sense that you're infected as much as you are, if you watch any zombie film it's one scratch or one bite and you're a goner! I just hope that before they release this update they change it so that for example a scratch you can heal from by sterilisation or whatever but if you get damaged badly enough by zeds no amount of alcohol or food should help. Thought I'd try and put a post out there endorsing the improved zeds.

    Tips for being a bandit?

Thanks for all the replies. I think I've found the right balance for me, I shall be a 'nice bandit'..of sorts.
  11. What's your best or favourite kill in Day Z? Curious to what people most memorable kill is. I'll start it off with my best being a fresh spawn in elektro with a crossbow. Running towards the supermarket via the pub I saw a bandit with an AK sitting in the wee tunnel. With barely any time to think I killed him with a swift bolt to the head before he could let off a round.

What's your best kill in Day Z?

Haha liking some of these kill stories :) not as good as my crossbow one but just recently I came across two hero's looting NWAF on DayZero. I had an AK-74 grenade launcher. Fired a few shots at one standing outside firestation back door then launched a grenade inside. I got shot up pretty bad by his mate and had a lot of zombie agro. I decided to just run in and blast them, I fired my last grenade at them killing one then me and the other guy were both shooting each other at the same time :L No kill messages in Day Zero so I had no idea if he'd died or not. Ran back to NWAF to find our 3 bodies there and their jeep, got myself kitted out and then came under fire by (I'm presuming) the same guys - made off with the jeep which I decided to give away to a nice bambi..killed 3 in the process as they were trying to steal the jeep - such bad manners.
  13. So far I love the way the mod is going however one thing that hasn't changed is that when running on a road crouched or not you make a shit ton of noise. Zeds will hear you from ages away. If I'm looting a town in the real zombie apocalypse I want to be able to be quick but quiet! I think I'd know to try and have a lighter step when running through a town so as not to attract attention. For the next update it'd be good to make your crouched run quieter on roads so that stealthing past the zombies is actually a viable option.
  14. andrewmont

    Reduce player noise on roads!

Problem is the walking in this is so slow. If there was a half walk half run speed designed for sneaking so as not to be noisy that'd be great. I mean let's face it if you were sneaking around a city in zombie apocalypse you'd move quietly but certainly faster than a leisurely stroll :)
  15. andrewmont

    Reduce player noise on roads!

I don't think that's a very apt comparison. You can't say you feel that the amount of noise you make moving on a road makes any sense at all?

Day Z Infection - Difficult is good!

I have noticed that myself tbh I think they need to fix some of the detection abilities the only way they cant hear you is to walk or crawl but you cant walk or crawl fast enough around them so they cant see you! I think that it should take skill and patience to not be seen by zombies but atm it's pretty much impossible.

Day Z Infection - Difficult is good!

Where does it say that we're immune? Day Z doesn't have a backstory. Obviously it doesn't make hackers good..zombies actually being a difficulty enemy makes the game better.

Day Z Infection - Difficult is good!

Surely this only relieves some of the tedium?
  19. I've just started playing again and love the new update but the custom maps feel really outdated because they're a much older version. Will they be updating them to the latest version at all or staying as is?
  20. Personally I find magazines boring but I love putting clips in my M1 Garand or Lee Enfield.
  21. Definitely hope that they don't dumb down the SA in the slightest, it'd be a shame to cater to the people who just want all action - no thought.
  22. My PC isn't that bad, it isn't great but Intel i3 540, Radeon 7770 and 4GB RAM with a 1TB hardrive surely should be able to run it at more than that. I know I need a new CPU but I can't afford one at the moment.

a SIMPLE guide to getting the most FPS

Video Memory should always be set to default, shadow detail disabled will help FPS. Although defragmenting doesn't necessarily help your FPS much the placement of files on your hard disk will. I don't know if you had read my post on FPS but the software I had recommended wasn't for its defrag abilities but for the ability to move Arma 2 to the outer tracks of your hard drive.
  24. Then don't buy it, use the free trial. It's what its there for. I also have never regretted a purchase because I test my software myself before I buy.
  25. This can help a lot though for people with a decent computer who're getting incredibly bad FPS. I have i3 540 which is why the game maybe runs so badly for me normally but I have a Radeon 7770 so averaging 12FPS is just ridiculous.
