Stopping Bleeding more effectively + Blood Regeneration
TheSushi replied to Toybasher's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
You aren't a Metal Gear Solid fan, are you? This is essentially the healing mechanics for Metal Gear Solid 3, word for word. You heal your health when your stamina is full and you can staunch bleeding by holding still and laying low. I think this is absolutely a good concept. It means if you just got shot by some asshole or killed that last zombie, you can in a pinch, staunch the bleeding and not have to be dependent on a pretty Israeli bandage to get out of that situation. It also makes stealthy survival more feasible if you can outrun the zombies and just find a place to apply pressure. Blood regeneration is logical, but you should have a very significant time after being wounded before it kicks in. Say an hour before you gain 150 ish blood per hour after. And no to anything while logged out. The current system allows far too much abuse logging out in combat to begin with - rewarding it with a healed character overnight is not going to help. -
Hey, but dead meat or living meat - stiffens up when cold. That's pretty basic.

If anything is an obvious source of fuel, its probably been sucked dry. Though I mentioned on another thread being able to siphon gas from vehicles and fuel sumps would be nice.
-
I'm of the opinion an altogether more elegant solution is to make the NVGs just suck up batteries. Sure, it's a big perk in battle, but its also another thing high-level players have to scavenge for.
-
That's certainly possible, though IMO, having batteries is also possible feature in a game that people don't consider to be super hardcore. Its just ammo for electronics.

New DayZ Combat Feature: Asssassination
TheSushi replied to ZackInGame's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Again, I think people just want the knife as an option because currently its a choice between assault rifles and melee. -
The Ability to Scavenge Parts From One Vehicle To Better Yours.
TheSushi replied to Bizmarck's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
It's a wonder this idea isn't already in... well, aside from trolling. You could probably just take a single part out of say, a sever admin's shiny helicopter and trash it. But that's just realistic. Another really important aspect, IMO is siphoning gas from damaged or wrecked vehicles. It doesn't make sense you find all of your gas fresh in jerry cans. -
Problem is the game devs already indicated anybody who is alive right now is completely immune. All sicknesses you get ingame are normal things like flu or colds or infections. Though I suppose if there were just plain hazardous areas you could just find gas masks in this game anyway.

Colour HUD according to humanity + proper body inspections + zombified survivors
TheSushi replied to Shifty_Pete's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Maybe its just realistic you don't know what you look like to other people though. I think it adds drama. -
Field Dressing from Far Cry 2 & 3?
TheSushi replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I loved how in Farcry 2 you could run out of breath, take damage and climb out of the water to rip a pipe out of your knee or poke a bullet out of you. That was some hardcore swimming. Ridiculousness aside, that sort of thing does fit this game well, but the sheer amount of animation work that would have to be done for the types of wounds you can incur in this game would be quite an undertaking. -
Standalone Feature: Allow us to put bikes on the back of vehicles.
TheSushi replied to dollada06 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Or you could open up the back and just have the bike lashed to a seat. You could probably fit a bike somewhere on most cars, but its a matter of how much technicality makes sense in a video game. -
That would be a neat way to give you supplemental food if you don't have a hunting knife. It was weird running past farms without taking anything.

Any single song or list of songs eventually gets stale, though. Bad Company 2: Vietnam proved this pretty well. I like the loudspeaker idea though.

Being a hobby shooter, I can tell you for sure that duct tape will hold a flashlight onto a lot of guns if you find the right place and use enough tape. The handguards of an M16, the stock of a bolt-action rifle, the handguard of an MP5. People don't do it because flashlight mounts are generally not that expensive and it looks stupid. If you have to do it, it'll hold up. Just use enough tape. More than one person has taped a flashlight to a double-barrel due to how difficult it is to find mounts. One thing that doesn't make a whole lot of sense is not being able to use a handgun and a flashlight at the same time when a handgun is designed to be used with one hand in a pinch. There's also a ton of techniques for using a handgun and a flashlight at the same time.

Make Zombie Slower, and more realistic.. like in Left 4 dead. or some
TheSushi replied to Symbiot001's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Hopefully at some point the flanking and seizure code is removed from the zombie AI, and they get more fluid animations that fit what they're doing better. Some sort of delay if they notice something nearby though, and a time for how long it takes for them to get max sprint speed (you know, like actual human beings), I think would help in both visual cohesion and "god this is annoying as fuck" moments. Not saying flanking is bad. Flanking like XOTCadde described with the zombies visually running around and taking an alternate path would be great... just not this warping back and forth just to add artificial challenge to hitting zombies. Maybe they should just add damage. I'm sure zombies would hit harder without pain tolerance, and maybe their hands / arms would degenerate into exposed bones and stuff, who knows... -
One of the common ideas in zombie survival plans is to go to areas that are hazardous to zombies, so... there's nothing wrong with the concept, I just don't know what it would entail to get it in the game.
-
Yeah, you gotta keep in mind this entire mod started as a bit of an experiment and is a constant WIP. The standalone may be far more appealing and perhaps incorporate more of an endgame. That said, you're not wrong. It's not a game for everyone. It takes a specific mindset to deal with a buggy military game and get your zombie fun. It's a zombie survival simulator, you could argue, but it does lack the long-term options (setting up colonies, reproducing, securing areas) that would be important in real life. So, good, honest review and hopefully you'll like the stand-alone.
-
Yeah, its not like boltcutters / wirecutters are restricted military technology anyway. It would also allow a lot more creative use of fencing in map design.
-
Well, like I said above, most NVGs and military flashlights just use the same batteries, AAs. NVGs just use more of them more often.

There's a lot of .380 pocket pistols we don't see so much in the US. The Cz-82 is one of my favorite. Same bullet and general size as the Makarov, easier reload and six extra bullets in the magazine. Then you have the Cz-52 and Tokarev pistols, which can punch through soft body armor and are very inexpensive. Europe also has a ton of luxury hunting rifles which fire very large, powerful rounds used to kill large game.
-
Absolutely. You're going to need medical treatment on any gunshot wound. I just think we should make being shot a matter more complex than "splat + death screen." Descending into shock, having impaired movement, vision and motor skills all make sense. Admittedly, I didn't really go over the affect of adrenaline on someone who is shot. If you don't see the bullet coming, you might die before fight-or-flight kicks in. But if you know there's a fight coming, people are notoriously hard to put down - the gunfight that the FBI had with two gunmen in Miami, 1986 is a perfect example of that. I'd note though, that by out-dated lever-action I was just referencing the Winchester 1866, which fires a .44-40 cartridge that has similar power to some hot-loaded handgun rounds, and can be stopped by most soft body armor. There are many lever actions that do similar damage to modern bolt-actions and autoloaders. The one in-game just isn't one of them. Plus, the .35 Remington was a much newer cartridge than lever-actions were originally designed for, being introduced around the same time as modern hunting rounds like the .30-06 Springfield. The bottom line is though, no matter what gun you're using, shot placement is going to dictate the result. Had the shooter with the .35 hit that deer in the intestines, it would not have died anywhere near as quickly, as you witnessed a vital hit in the heart and lungs. The guys in Miami had few shots to their vitals and were only stopped by CNS hits. Also, you mean IIIA armor, correct? III is a level only used for hard inserts, as it denotes the ability to stop rifle bullets.

I'm not saying the AR-15 is a bad suggestion or your idea is wrong necessarily. There's a number of ways we can go about adding weapons. We can add the AR-15 anyway, along with WASR-10 semi-auto AK derivatives and semi automatic shotguns, working with the idea that Chenarus is a place where guns are easily bought. Or just add more classically European guns and minimize the military aspect. Either approach can work if implemented right.
-
To be honest, if you just duplicated the assault rifles and made them semi-automatic, you'd have a lot of guns you can buy in the US. But Europe is much more hunting rifles, double barrel and pump shotguns, with semi-automatic centerfire rifles and handguns mostly being owned by cops and the military. You have exceptions like Slovenia where just as many firearms as the US are legal, or Italy where a handgun of non-military caliber is legal though.
-
Have you tried hacksawing through a quality padlock? It's not easy, the hacksaw wears out very fast. I'd imagine its the same case with quality handcuffs.
-
Again, regardless of bullet shot placement is king. If you hit the heart, aorta or spinal cord in the chest, they'll die almost instantly, with a 9mm, .22 or anything else. But your lungs will mostly make you bleed to death. Same with your liver, stomach and most of your organs that take up your chest. There's a lot of places where you won't die instantly. And I said there's plenty of ways to punish players for getting shot that aren't instant death - shock and bleeding is generally what causes a large amount of gunshot-related deaths. Plus, the default player skin is wearing armor if you haven't noticed.
