Killed By 2 Hackers, Death Screen Reveals Player Locater
sp86 replied to badbadrobot's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
This is what a Player Finder looks like. It does not look like the ARMA II load-in/debug area. Remove the GUID's or produce actual proof. -
No it's not. The AS50 is. The TWS configuration is not.

Killed By 2 Hackers, Death Screen Reveals Player Locater
sp86 replied to badbadrobot's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
If there were any justice in the world you would get banned and your server blacklisted for dropping GUIDs without proof. -
I can see it now, some guy spends fifteen days sitting on a pier with a fishing pole and a nearby well, bothering nobody, just fishing and surviving, and then some asshat with an AS50 scopes him out and blasts him for lulz.
-
A knife might be useful as part of a takedown system or trap construction as well.
-
The typical DayZ player is an asshole, this guy gave them sweet stuff and let them go. Ergo he's atypical.
-
One of our guys almost got squashed by a boat that a hacker road out of the sky into balotta and then spawned a jeep an escalade and a gear box the second he hit the ground. He then proceded to turn one of our other guys into a cow and give everyone presents. Fucking weird.

So, I had an idea the other day that was fucking goofy, but I think it has merit. I haven't played in a server yet where the vehicles weren't hoarded in one godforsaken corner or another, and looking for them seems totally pointless unless you intend to invest a lot of time on a server. So my idea was to add a lootable bike kit to the game, find them in Residential or Industrial High values and right click use generates a bike. If you limited it to one spawn per player you would at most be adding 50 objects to the game, and it would solve the critical lack of transportation. You could balance this any way you wanted, either by make it a rare spawn on par with GPS's or similar top tier equipment, or if you want to be almost gamebreaking, allowing fresh spawns to have one in their immediate inventory.

People hoard all sort of weird shit in crisis, it's not any less inconceivable than readily available reproductions of 100 year old American firearms in what is ostensibly an ex-soviet republic. The idea of hoarding is not only that you have a lot of something, but that you're denying its use to other players as well (as I said, monopolizing through hoarding). Being able to go into Cherno or Elektro in a popular server at night, loot a bike, spawn it and ride around would completely shift the balance away from server operators and entrenched clans by allowing newbies and server nomads alike to rapidly scout a server through diligent looting. So, keep the fresh spawns in the areas that have turned into deathmatch zones, ensure they can't leave with any kind of velocity. Cause getting killed over and over again in Cherno by KOS assholes and hackers is tons of fun. I don't understand that rationale at all.

The idea here is the potential for availability. Currently there is none/very little; I've seen two bikes in almost a month of play. If anybody can go into an apartment building, get a bike kit and then ride away on it that in my opinion greatly reduces the potential for monopoly through hoarding. It sounds like balancing, but given that bikes are one of the most common luxury items in the world, I don't think it's that much of a stretch.

Thermal AS50, HA!
-
Doesn't address the hoarding problem. It just means a server operators camp would have 20 bikes in it instead of 5.
-
The problem with vehicles is they don't appear to return to spawn ... well ... ever. So the first people in a server essentially get their pick, they repair the vehicles, horde them in a corner somewhere and never let them see light of day until some dude with a bike stumbles onto them.

I don't he's impressed upon you just how loud the DMR is. If you fire one off in cherno you will pull entire neighborhoods. It's very loud. It's fantastic, but very loud.

Engine parts necessary for quick move?
sp86 replied to (ABR) Sam's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It will, and it will run quite nicely until you hit a chicken or go over a speed bump at which point it will promptly explode. -
I guess I should hit up green mountain next time I'm in a server that restarts.
-
That map says, no, and yet the dayz wiki includes them, saying they spawn at Green Mountain and other places of which there is video evidence. I'm guessing one of the patches replaced them with UAZs, I hope I'm wrong.

ALT+F4 is the windows shortcut for terminate program, it can cause anomalies when used, but mostly, people complain about others just disappearing in the middle of a firefight (a legitimate concern).

The answer is obvious, his friend is a space shuttle door gunner at the secret NASA Launch Facility in Pensacola. -
why do you not have the time to Disconnect? It only takes a second and a half.

Make zombies SWARM the sound of gunfire
sp86 replied to Jackftw's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
On a fresh spawn I found an enfield and 120 rounds of ammo in the high value residentials in Cherno, I resolved not to leave Cherno until I had expended every single one. It took fifteen minutes and I got 105 zombie kills. That seems fairly swarmy to me.
