    Lingor Island Chit Chat.

It's a mod of a mod. fun times!
  2. lol... turtle kid ftw Regarding eating the dead... I think that's getting into censorship land. I can't imagine some of the less open-minded societies of the western world being happy about a realistic cannibalism simulator. Personally, I don't see a huge difference between having zombies doing it, or humans doing it, or even the difference between a movie doing it and a video game; but I can almost guarantee that the press and some governments will tow the butthurt line of, "someone think of the children!" I think it'd be a legit addition to discuss, but it comes with real life ramifications that Rocket would have to consider.
  3. I know Rocket has said he's not interested in getting bogged down in RPG elements... but that's pretty simple and lends a bit of variety to the opening few hours of a life. Being a previous businessman might give you a watch and 2 extra inventory slots (because of organization skills... obviously). I wouldn't be opposed to this as long as it didn't become a skill tree / perks / skill points system. Let WarZ flounder in that regard.
  4. This thread is very well done. I think it deserves sticky status.
  5. Well here's some more discussion on the fence idea. I don't think the crafting element can be too in depth (for resource hog reasons). I also don't think it needs to be. It can be effective without being too complicated. ie: You want to build a fence of about 20 feet What you need 1x residential toolbox - Difficult to find. this will contain everything required to make "everyday" crafted items. Would contain a hammer, nails etc... 10x wooden boards/planks - medium spawn probability. They're in residential and industrial loot spawns 10x firewood - Essentially these would function as posts... It's not 100% logical but its easy as you can cut them in any forest. The high amounts required would stop a single person from building a walled in structure in an hour. I would hope this would take a team of 5 guys an hour to forage (presuming they had the toolbox). So it'd take a considerable time to build a full-out walled in enclosure. You can mount petrol fueled lanters (another idea), flares, chemlights, candles, or lights (powered the generator idea) on the wall. If you are lucky enough to find copper wire (another new item... like .05% spawn chance in high value industrial only and only gives you 20 feet), and you have the petrol required you can make it an electric fence... although it seriously sucks the petrol. It would function as cover against bolts from crossbows, but nothing else. All other damages decreased by 20% when it goes through... the tricky is you can't just run through it. You've either gotta blow it up, shoot 10-12 rounds into it (giving away your position), hack it apart melee style, or take it apart with a toolbox... which would take a considerable amount of time. Zombies would just walk into it and turn around unless they were aggro'd by someone behind it... in which case they'd rip it open in seconds.

    Friendly mode

For the guys saying that it'd be boring because the zombies are useless... you're basing that on the mod. I'm going to guess they'll be vastly improved in the standalone.

I'm a good example of why. I'm on a laptop because I live 6000 miles from home, at the moment. No point in buying a desktop that I can't take with me! Good luck OP. I think you're going to struggle. Try downloading the Arma II demo to see how it runs. It should be closely comparable to dayZ

Dogs are in next patch !!!!!!

Yes it does explain why they haven't fixed many bugs. Some things are unfixable on the current engine. Other things will be easily fixed in the standalone. It makes no sense for the devs to go crazy trying to convince BE and BI to fix hacking when it'll be in their hands in the standalone. They'll also be able to fix broken zombie mechanics in the standalone far easier than tinkering with the current engine. This mod is here to test out ideas, not to sink thousands of hours into bug fixes when those bugs might not even pop up in the standalone. You've given no examples as to the "problems" other than hacking and general bugs. Maybe that's why we're not on the same page.
  9. In order to modify the thread's current proposition regarding inventory space/shopping carts: A la Cormac McCarthy's 'The Road', you can build a cart. Wheels are a commodity and can be attached to various things to create push/pull carts. a piece of wood and 4 wheels would make a skid that could carry tons of stuff... but good luck finding 4 wheels. 1 wheel and a board could make a smaller push cart that only holds 10 or so item slots. Wheelbarrows also exist... maybe they are rare but have their wheel intact. A nice, if not overly significant find. ROPE!!!! This would be a commodity in an apocalypse. Binding splints, securing the aforementioned wheels, creating boundaries, making sling traps, lassos for wrangling animals and baddies. There are tons of reasons to include rope (presuming it can be modeled of course) Wood boards / planks Relatively common items that can be used for many purposes. Again, the pullcarts... but also for boarding up a broken window or door, creating a fence etc... Candles Duh... another light source that you'd find a lot of. You need matches to light them, obviously.

    BattlEye on hackers

http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/65330-3-global-bans-in-one-minute-us-ny199/ Check out the last post on the first page... People ARE getting banned within 1 minute for spawning in ammo crates.

    SSD, DayZ and You...

SATA transfer speeds, not HD storage size, haha. I recently upgraded my laptop with an SSD. The loading times are about 10% of what they were on the stock 5400rpm drive. woohoo!
  13. I checked out that site... It's GLORIOUS!!!! One of the posts is from a kid who was gloating because he hadn't been banned while all of the others had been. A few minutes later he edits... "Global ban... :(" baaaahahahahaha!!

Dogs are in next patch !!!!!!

Or you just don't understand how this works. The mod was created to be a fun side-experience to Arma II. Rocket and his devs worked hard to make it the best they could... he and his team did a GREAT job considering they were working on a 4+ year old engine that isn't designed for anything but strict military simulation. The world noticed, liked his idea, and bought Arma to play DayZ. But now the mod isn't the focus of the DEV team... Because of people like YOU, they get the opportunity to make the "perfect" dayZ, in their eyes. We're here to test ideas so the DEV team can see how we react to them, not to enjoy the most fluid perfect gaming experience Rocket can manage. That's what the standalone is for. Also, there isn't a chance that anyone could fix all of the issues with DayZ without access to the root arma 2 engine. This is a MOD... it works within the limits of that Arma II lays out. You want less erratic zombies? Likely not going to happen. It's built into the Arma II engine for them to run full speed and track directly at their target. You want them to fully stop hackers? That likely won't happen either. Arma II was built so that modders could have carte blanche to run scripts. The downside is that hackers can too. All they can do is react and ban. Eventually the hackers will get bored and will move onto another game. Want them to stop the graphical glitches? That WILL happen. Please try to understand that when you bought this game, you did so as a rat in a maze. It was always going to be like that... every mod is. Often they're unrecognizable from first release after only a few months. So take the bugs and glitches and exploits with a grain of salt. Either deal with them, or go play what you paid for, Arma II. p.s. sorry for wall-of-text. I got carried away :)

    seriously.

Can you just change the banner for the forums to this quote?
  17. I felt the same way you did after my first outright murder. It was a guy in a ghillie in the mountains above Cherno. I had a sprinfield with 1 clip and he was packing serious heat. I gunned him down without him seeing me as he walked towards me. I felt so bad that I didn't look his corpse. I knew he'd make it there from the beach in about 10 mins. Sometimes you've just gotta do what you've gotta do!
  18. sudZ!

    seriously.

I just don't care anywhere near as much as you do about things like this. I got thunderdomed pretty early in the process and had a TON of fun trying to survive it. I re-geared and have since died again. Meh. I bought Arma II for dayZ knowing full well that it was a mod for an outdated, buggy engine. Maybe next time you shouldn't be a bandwagon idiot and should do some research before you click "purchase".
  19. I'm sure he would appreciate this if he wasn't running down the coast towards Cherno in order to gear up and kill you!
  20. sudZ!

    seriously.

I'd start a discussion about the difference between an alpha and a beta... but this thread is about humiliating Captain Rageface up there... :)
  21. You've invested 700 posts... Don't kid yourself!

    DOG FIGHTS!

This is obviously unacceptable in many societies... but this is a post apocalyptic Eastern Europe we're talking about. I'm surprised there aren't any dancing zombie bears to be completely honest. So should the dogs be able to attack players or other dogs? Both? Or should they only be able to sniff out food/supplies, and kill zombies if need be? I've got 2 meats on Lassie!
  24. I ONLY ask people if they're friendly if they haven't seen me first and I can make it obvious that I'm choosing NOT to kill them. A lot of people will salute and sit down when they don't want to look like a threat. I have met up with roughly 5 people like this. Others will just keep running, or go prone and start hunting for me without saying or doing anything deferential... That's when I either go the other way or take them out. :) I should mention that it is VERY IMPORTANT to switch your chat channel to direct communication. Otherwise there isn't a good chance you're going to see what people like me type and you're going to die more often.
