A few suggeestions concerning the item drop rarity
YourStepDad posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Hi there, I have been playing Day Z for about a week now and have noticed the item placements could use a rework. Firstly - Food & Drinks It is so easy to get food & water because nearly every zombie can drop some. This almost completely nullifies the role of looking for food & water to survive, not to mention that it's not realistic. My solution to this is an easy one - remove food & drinks from zombies. That way the whole thing would feel just right. I remember the first time I played(survived for 8 hours. Was quite pleased considering it was my first playtrough :P) I however did not know how to use a hatchet, so most of the time I had no weapons, therefore didn't have much chance to loot zombies. I've found some water, but my food meter was so low that I have decided my main goal for the moment would be finding food. I loved it. It gave me a sense of survival and and objective, while now I am always loaded with food. Always. I think it's pretty self explainatory. Just remove the food & drinks from zombies, oh, and bring back the edible pumpkins, at least to some extent. Would be much better than what we have now. Secondly - Morphine and Broken Legs On several occasions, I had few zombies(not at the same time, it was a single zombie at least twice) just charge at me(without the splintered bone icon afaik) and break my legs in the middle of nowhere. WHY? It is just frustrating and feels unnatural. How does a few arm swings break a bone anyway? I could understand it if a group of zombies starts mauling at you, and you're on the floor, half eaten, barely surviving the beating. Solution: Make it harder to happen. Chance needs to be less of a factor here. Keep it possible with a splintered bone, but IMO decrease the chance. Make it happen only if you're getting absolutely massacred by zombies, and of course if you fall from high enough places. Thirdly - flares and misc. (might edit later on) Too many flares and chemlights in households. I think the number should be greatly reduced, and mainly reduced only to more urban or industrial areas. I know I've left some stuff out, I'll make sure to edit when I remember them. Please tell me what you think, I think the food problem needs to be fixed urgently. :) -
I had no equipment and headed trough the mountains, then after 15 minutes or so(indeed quite long) of searching for a settlement, i have finally found a road and soon after a medium sized village. I have never seen it before, it was on a little hill, so to speak. I have started sneaking towards a very small open building that was in the town but one of the zombies spotted me, so I stood up and started running there. I have entered the very small barn-like building and waited for the zombies to come in, there was 7 - 8 of them in total. When they all got in and I headed towards the other exist to lose them - BOOM! Ahuge explosion, killing all the zeds and myself, and leaving the barn without a roof. Why do you think that happened? Was someone trying to help me by killing the zeds? Was someone just trying to kill me? Was it a bug? The village seemed pretty secluded, and I doubt anyone would camp there, let alone use a rocket launcher/grenade on me.

So I've been just blown to pieces...
YourStepDad replied to YourStepDad's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Today I've also saw a barn blow to pieces...and 3 buildings next to it. It was on a Russian server and there were constant explosions, the smoke would not go away. I closed in but logged out afterwards, so I couldn't see was there someone nearby actually doing that stuff. didn't want to take any chances. -
You have not said anything useful with this post, and I don't think you're going to if you post again, so please, stay away from this thread. As much as the bandit skins are not the solutions, they have obviously made the game work better in many ways. As annoying as the "bring back bandit skins" threads may be, they are legit complaints. I agree with the second post though. :D

You where kicked off the game. (battleye: Bad player name) What to do?

I have the same issue. Thanks for the workaround, but I can wait for the patch. -
Recruit/Regular/Veteran/Expert difficulties
YourStepDad replied to RadikulRAM's topic in New Player Discussion
Loot people. It's the loot. Recruit is abundant with loot, whilst on regular there is three times as less loot. Even less on veteran, never tried expert though. You also get hungry and thirsty faster depending on the difficulty. -
How to fix D/Cers. For real.
YourStepDad replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
make their character stay on the server, for 30 seconds AT LEAST. -
Oh my god. That is one of the best suggestions I have ever seen for Day Z. It would stop you from logging off to loose a horde of zombies, not to mention players logging out during a firefight. It could be abused with alt +f4, but it would be solved this way - even if you disconnect, your character continues to log out for the said amount of seconds. I really want everybody to see this. You have my beans!

Loot washing up along the shore line
YourStepDad replied to FuzzyLogic (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I do not like the idea. Seeing as how the coast is the starting zone, it would only mean more threat for the newbies. Loot is painfully easy to obtain as it is, food meters are unrealistic and food is bloody everywhere, among countless other things. In other words - ABSOLUTELY NOT. It gives you a stupid reason to stick to the shore, and players should be encouraged to leave it, and take some risks if they want a reward. Besides, people that despawn near the coast look like stranded corpses, which is a nice touch :P -
Very, very nice. change the tread name to " New Zombie Textures [FINISHED] " or something, otherwise devs or others may overlook the thread thinking it is just an idea.

How about that's how it works you little shit? A road to perfection has it's ups and downs, things are bound to break and problems are bound to arise. If you avoid adding new stuff for a while, most of the community will get upset. I wish some people would use reason to understand this is how every, and I mean EVERY alpha works. One build will be stable, another one will cause problems, and the problems will be gone after a few builds. It is just the way of things, nothing wrong with it. Oh, and the zombies spotting you from far away was absolutely fixed in the last patch. Get your facts right.

That very same bandit will probably want to loot whoever he just killed. That bandit also has to have ways of obtaining food. There is ALWAYS some amount of risk.

Knock out players and tie them up

A lot of people want to see it. Except it shouldn't be done with barbed wire. :D Isn't this what the players who are not in binds can do? :D -

Unlock view distance (turn it down optional)

Go away, chill, then come back. -
I agree, thought if nothing, I'd like to see hanged/dead people, tents and camps in forests as immersive props and points of interests, making forest trips scarier and more interesting. I'd like to see stashes of goods hidden away at specific locations, and perhaps civilians too, if they don't make them too frequent.

Just disable respawn and be done with it

I fully agree. +1 -
So during my first playtrough, few hours in - I have started to wonder why has my character grown hungry, but barely thirsty at all. I felt it was weird. Then I have realized I have been mistaking blood for thirst all along. I imagine it can be confused to others as well. Also, having food icon all the way down feels wrong, since it's one of your top priorities. My idea/solution to this would be: Icon Placement - The way it is now: Temperature Water Blood Food - My idea: Food Water Blood( stays where it was) Temperature Icon Reworks Next to the water bottle, there should be a small "h2o" to indicate that the bottle stands for water. As for blood, it can stay the same, although I think it would be cooler if we had an icon representing veins in human body, kind of something like one of those: http://t2.gstatic.co...WLUmIwX9TOrgUqQ Smaller of course, although it still might take up too much space, due to it's shape. Please tell me what you think :)

Good point. I will do it tomorrow though. Kind of tired right now for any sorts of long posts. If you could sum it up for me I'd be happy to add it to the first post later on :) Glad you're caring for the suggestions :)

You're not the the only one who wants to see this. It is an immersion factor and a lot of players want it. People suggesting the respawn button are just plain stupid. I hope Rocket notices this and adds it in eventually. Gun to the mouth, CLICK!

The ONLY Realistic Way to Prevent Deathmatching: Make DayZ a Living Hell
YourStepDad replied to Time Glitch's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
While your argument may be true and I'd probably end up agreeing with it I have stopped reading there. -
No. Starting without anything adds a sense of helplessness that sadly goes away too quicky as it is. There is a lot of debris in the village streets, many junk piles, we should easily be able to loot a plank from there, that does lower damage than a crowbar and breaks after killing 1 - 2 zombies. I'd definitely add that, but no starting weapons PLEASE

So I've been just blown to pieces...
YourStepDad replied to YourStepDad's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Why not? Lets face the facts, the servers are full of them. They do crazy stuff such as drop cows on people, I do not see why this is something they couldn't do. It is very unlikely, I am only considering it as a possibility. -
I, as many of us have, have wondered about "what if" scenarios for a zombie apocalypse. Having a museum with a lot of well preserved armors close to where I live, a funny thing sprung to mind. What if in the event of a zombie apocalypse I had looted one of those body armors? Think about it. Say I looted a full suit of plate with a closed helmet. It would slow me down a bit, impair my vision and my breathing, but more importantly, exhaust me as I travel, not to mention moving would make a lot of noise. But you'd be like a tank. What could gnawing, bite attempts and kicking do to a full armored man? Even if a group of infencted ganged up on you, pushed you down and bashed you continuously, it would take hours for you to die from blunt trauma. In short - unpractical But, why wouldn't I loot a medieval/renaissance/pike & shotte cuirass? They are a common sight in museums and reenactment shops, and would offer you excellent protection from melee attacks where it matters the most. They would not really slow you down, and I doubt they would make any noise when worn.(at least the variant shown) So why does not the movie/game industry use this concept? Improvisations is always original. I think I've worked out the idea for it's implementation pretty well, and that it would work well in contrast to the modern military body armor that has been suggested so much. Of course, as Day Z currently does not have a real apparel system or museums for that matter, it's something that might work when it is standalone. How I imagined it working in game: It would be an extremely rare find, available only in a museum with a days/week long respawn time(though I feel this could be exploited with the current cross-server feature) and at some cultural landmarks. I am hoping such places will be better guarded with zombies when Day Z becomes standalone. It would give you 50% reduction against zombie attacks, and 30% against say...a hatchet,(the percentage would vary depending on the weapon and the locational damage, sadly i doubt we'll ever see the latter, even when Arma becomes standalone.) It would give little to no protection from bullets, in contrast to the mentioned modern military body armors that work the other way around. I'd really like to know what everyone thinks :)
