  1. A good head shot usually does the trick on my server.
  2. I haven't played on a public hive for quite some time but the other day decided to try out US 3889. There were active admins and overall the experience was good. I died a lot but that's because I play as a hero and don't shoot non-bandits. So after gearing up a bit and surviving the killing fields of Elektro I logged off all alone in the middle of the woods north of Rog castle. My gear was simple: survivor skin, Lee, Makarov, basic supplies. Today when I logged on I'm in the middle of the NWAF in a ghillie suit with an M14 and 8 mags. My backpack is gone. ?!? This looks like the aftermath of the classic script that teleports everyone to the NWAF for a deathmatch, but I wasn't even online. wtf is going on with the public hive? Update: edited title
  3. To close this out, after providing all the information they requested BI did disable my old key and issue me a new key. They didn't have to do this since it was clearly my fault for being careless so hats off to BI for their customer service.
  4. They are out there but most players don't want to play DayZ, they want to deathmatch. I have a small community on my 20 slot server and we have fun playing DayZ. That's all that matters to me, I don't care that my server isn't full. If you want stock DayZ at Mercenary settings come give it a try.

    Coincidence?

So you combat logged AND ghosted? That must take some serious skill.
  6. I think it would be great. Why should I NOT be able to pack up a tent I find?

    Day Z Urban Legends

    *ding*
  8. It's these little experiences that make the hours of being shot on sight by 12 year old douche bags all worth it. :D

    Need some confirmation on vehicles

Yes, what Applejaxc said. I've also had fully repaired vehicles explode suddenly for no apparent reason. Welcome to ArmA II. :D
  10. I emptied all the mags at zombies, dumped all my gear on the ground and jumped off the fire station roof. Whoever has that key will start at the coast. :D
  11. The thread was removed shortly after I was bitten, so no worries. I'll PM you the tool name.
  12. I downloaded the admin tool from an announcement here on the forums and it looked totally legit with a nice description, etc, etc. It was a very well done troll but I should have known better. Enjoy the 74,990 humanity (now 72,990) whoever you are that bought my CD key. >:(
  13. Confirmed by zombie kills and a murder in debug monitor, I've been pwned. :( I suspected this due to a suspicious admin tool I was evaluating a while back and already have a ticket open with BI support. My fault for not being cautious enough. Grrrr
  14. I was definitely on public servers (US 3889 and also tried US 1992). I hadn't thought about someone else playing my character, but that is probably it. Thanks for the replies.
  15. Check my sig, I usually do play on a private hive. ;)
  16. I'm going to say most people shoot Heroes on sight since I die all the time. 74,990* humanity does nothing to stop the bullets. ;) Yesterday I died by not shooting a little punk I had the drop on. I told him to leave but he came and shot me anyway. Such is the life of the hero. *I've played a looooooong time and got that high just surviving and not shooting people
  17. I've seen some posts where people use a registry cleaner called Ccleaner after uninstalling and deleting the Bohemia registry folders. I can't vouch for this program but it might be worth a try. http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

    Hoarding vehicles

I can unequivocally state that the admin did not, in fact, move the bus. I blame it on the zombies. They get bored when there is no one to eat so they move the vehicles around. It's strange that they always move them downhill. I wonder why they do that?
  19. <Ramble> I've noticed that a lot of people join my server and then almost immediately leave. Why is this? I think there are 2 factors: 1) People log on at night and can't see, so they leave 2) People log on and can't use 3rd person or cross hairs so they leave I did some data analysis for fun on the 1500 alive survivors. +---------------+---------+ | Minutes Alive | Players | +---------------+---------+ | 0-1 | 634 | | 2-3 | 156 | | 4-5 | 107 | | 6-10 | 147 | | 11-30 | 209 | | 31-60 | 91 | | 61+ | 173 | +---------------+---------+ So almost half (42%) of the people that join leave within 1 minute and a whopping 70% leave within 10 minutes. Looking at DayZ commander I see most people playing on the "500+ vehicles, tons of loot!!!!" type servers. That's all well and good and I can't say I'm surprised, but IMHO they're not playing DayZ. Feel free to share your thoughts. </Ramble>
  20. I'm on Windows 7, so slightly different registry paths. I thought I had fixed the registry this way but maybe I did re-install. It's been a while so I forget. If your machine is crashing a lot I would suspect hardware problems, most likely memory. Have you ran a memory test? If not, I recommend making a bootable cd and doing so. http://www.memtest86.com/
  21. I'm no expert but it's possible the registry key is corrupt. You could try deleting the ArmA2 and Arma2:OA CD key registry keys, then tell Steam to validate local files. Start straight ArmA2 and Arma2:OA to let them install and ensure they launch without error. After that fire up DayZ. Good luck! On my system the registry keys are found here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Bohemia Interactive Studio\ArmA 2 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Bohemia Interactive Studio\ArmA 2 OA
  22. Yes, you do lose humanity and my opinion is you should. No one is forcing you to kill that player just because they shot you. Sometimes the situation calls for a strategic withdrawal.
  23. My opinion is if you are asking this question then you are missing the point of DayZ entirely.
  24. Those servers are out there, you just have to look. They will most likely be low population though. Most people that join my server are gone in 30 seconds. I think they get in and realize no 3rd person and no cross hairs so they panic and leave. ;)
