    I play DayZ to Roleplay

@ZedsDeadBaby Good points, but still. "y u no play something else" kind of detracts from the point of dayz... the more variety of player, the better. The power playing thing is a big draw to people. But it doesn't have much of a long term hold. I think the point of this thread is that there are several types of long term players, each of which that want to be catered to as opposed to "you MUST group up and elite-gear yourselves" or "you MUST be able to survive alone and scavenge on your own for survivability" which is pretty interesting in itself. because both need to be looked at as long term goals for players.
  2. This seems to be the point everyone is coming to. Whether newbie/lone wolf/bandit/grouped up/carebear. The general point is either "What will I do?", "What do I do now?" or "What do I want to do?". What is your end-game experience so far, and what would keep you playing DayZ? I'd like to make a poll eventually once there are some rough ideas of how people want to continue their gameplay. I'm curious because there seems to be a common trend among most players, yet a lot of discussed feature suggestions aren't focussed in that direction. 2 months from now, hypothetically still playing DayZ where any feature is possible, where do you see yourself in the world ideally? ------ Myself: I'm a lone wolf, I enjoy it. But am trying to get more people into DayZ.. therefore I am a carebear lone wolf. A lot of high end military gear, camp site raiding, etc. have no meaning to my style. I teach people how to survive, then GTFO. I enjoy it, but it won't keep me hooked because my demands are quite low and easily satisfied. My ideal endgame is somewhere that I'm equally threatened by people, zombies and wildlife. My cautiousness is paid off by helping others and building a reputation, and the ability to interract with them without certain death. I don't wish to base build or fortify, I hope to explore and find loot others wouldn't find because of this (not a fan of farming or predictable drops) and possibly unearth easter eggs within the game that could have a profound effect on others, and modify their behaviour towards me.
  3. I was using a bit of humour... (despite the fact many people I know tend to look at furry hentai) If it's not something you're prepared to openly talk about, people who find it strange will insult you and people who are interested in it will want to detach themselves from you. hence, say it as it is. These forums are hardly the mainstray of the internet.

    A definitive end-game discussion. Experiences & Opinions.

sounds a lot like Half-Life 1. but still. Players experiences & opinions. Because it's kind of important, and can lead to a discussion that is actually useful and insightful.

    A definitive end-game discussion. Experiences & Opinions.

There is undeniably a ceiling we all hit. This is more about avoiding that and continuing on without hitting it (at least consciously) So any and all opinions are good.. even if the term shouldn't apply.

Stary Sobor a waste of time?

hint: don't go to the tents. Stary sobor has one of the best shop locations for hitting from the south west. If you look at a map, the tents can be sniped from the North-west all the way to the south-east, and from forests. I'd say even the NW airfield is safer than Stary sobor. Plus people can spawn near there..

Why make a suggestion at this point?

I'd say 50% is community contribution, and 50% is developer. Hence why people should keep the ideas flowing. We don't ultimately know the goals of the project though, and a lot of cool stuff has been put in that had a snowballs chance of getting communally suggested. so meh. if it really sucks, it can be removed. were it 100% community it would probably derive into the typical boring crap that society churns out.

true. there is a definite pattern of endgame players going back to the basics though. which is cool. and a bit of a *HINT HINT* that future content should be aimed at this experience, not so much girlscout marshmallow-roasting camp sites and kumbaya

I think you've just transitioned to the bear grylls style. It has it's advantages, mostly being the abundance of ammo. You increase your chances of survival by not having to rely on military sites. Carrying less blingy gear makes you more willing to help people I've noticed also.

    For the horde

A persisently spawned horde would be cool to provide an unexpected threat that migrates around the map. more isn't necessarily better (i.e. phasing in a swarm) but a more active class of Z's that provide a threat to high level players would keep things interesting. "they can smell NVG's..."

This game won't be popular at release

I actually agree with the OP. If this was pay-as-you-go, It'd probably get about a month out of me. Maybe 2 if I was a n00b. Familiarity kills longevity. Things get easier as you progress, which is logical, but it does lead to boredom. as you said it's a sandbox, but there really is only one way to play it unless you're a masochist. predictable zombie behaviour and predictable loot = predictable players.
  13. I think I last played at a similar patch.. I still had all my gear yesterday, but spawned on the coast.

are zombies really the main threat?

No.. I think they're meant to be 'background noise'. I'd like to see them play a bigger role, I think there's a lot of spiced up zombie behaviour that could keep the game interesting and players on their toes.

    Recommended DayZ - Bad Experience

I'm sure rocket will immediately halt development and promptly hang himself out of shame aftering hearing your friends scathing comments :(

1.7.1 and some of the community

General Discussion & Suggestions exist in a state of anarchy atm. If you want to get your opinion heard, swearing and offending is generally the best way to do so. Works for me at least.. I've suggested something more.. hierarchical. Where certain suggestions and complaints could be voted on, then put to discussion in consolidated threads (without having to wait for one of the dev's to read 800 threads to raise the issue themselves) The amount of repetition and bollocks is almost beyond the scope of the mods to merge. Nuke from orbit!

The geared players are not screwed.

A game never will provide a level challenge for any one farming/gearing. (Unless a flag goes up to alert all zombies in a 10km radius if someone has SD ammo) That being said I don't think this is a major issue. Quite often farming goes against the whole point of a game and people get bored of the routine. Farming is it's own worst enemy- death by repetition.

    where is MR DELICIOUS

life seems somewhat empty without his deliciousisms? did becoming a mod rob him of his mojo?
  21. 'Humanity' is abstract, modernist and dialectic. (Simulacrum, even, for you philosophy whores) i.e. It's a structural concept that people have come to agree upon, based on society, religion, culture and all things irrational that resembles a likeness to what we PERCEIVE we are. Thus is completely invalid. What we experience ingame is both moralist and what we experience as an individiual. Personal and self-afflicting. e.g. I am shot, therefore I bleed. Yet. My entire family is dead. The world is in ruin, and my character is perfectly fine with destroying the last traces of humanity? despite the prime motivation for a person to be to reproduce, sustain their legacy and rule. (The will to the power) If I bleed when I am shot, therefore I should bleed when I am destroying my last chances of survival by killing my brethren. Minus the minority of psycho and sociopaths (who would have most likely shot themselves in the face during such a chaotic event as an apocalypse) I think you should be looking towards how our individual characters are effected by their actions, not how 'others' percieve them. (i.e. crows circling, 'punishing' them divinely without weapons upon rebirth etc.) Quite simply, if a character within this dayz universe starts rampantly murdering their only hope of survival (other people) would they not be fuelled by paranoia, anxiety, insomnia etc.? which would effect their ingame experience. Much like any serial killer succumbs to. I don't think we should punish ingame 'bad guys', because they would exist. But there is a price to pay for being a psychopath, in the same way there is a price to pay for being good-guy-greg. The possibilties to bring mental state, drug abuse, and all sort of other options are endless. I'd love to log out thinking "I hope my character doesn't lose his shit and cut his wrists because he'll never have meaningful contact with another human being in his life" as opposed to "I HAZ NO BEANZ =( =(" but that's just something to think about. In a persistent world, people require more than food and shelter. Whole civilizations have collapsed because of philosophical conflict.

    A DayZ Parliament

This is a [YES] or [NO] idea (that my inner Jacobite has been thinking of) so stick a vote above your reply Do you support a DayZ parliament of 15-20 members to discuss, support and endorse the suggestions of forumites? After nearly 2 months on here, the GD forum is really aflood with repeat threads, or a few significant threads with 400+ replies that are impossible to keep up with. I wholly endorse the vote threads rocket has put up in the last few days, and urge Lady Lightfoot to implement a working poll system (when s(he) has comfortably slipped out of that sensual neon-orange négligée and 8 inch pumps) ..But also as way for us to discuss with said representatives our ideas, to provide the dev's with more concise desires and feedback, reformatted into implementable concepts. (Not just 'omg wouldn't it be great if there was unicorns!') There are a lot of great ideas, a lot of repeated ideas, and a lot of crap ideas. Also exploits that go unnoticed for longer than they should, etc. We have the capacity to do a lot of this work and allow the developers to focus on what matters. Thoughts/Feedback? Naturally I volunteer as world Zombologist Dictator but doubt that will go over well.

Dear rocket, f**k humanity. Focus on Morality.

Yet that's the first thing we have to do.. (minus the zoloft, that shit makes you want to kill yourself anyway)

Dear rocket, f**k humanity. Focus on Morality.

I wouldn't say bad players.. I am biased. Even lucky, the aus servers just have less irrational murders. I get away with stuff that should get me murdered constantly, but instead people laugh and team up with me. DayZ does go into MMO territory, and to have a totally detached 'character' doesn't fit the scene, I guess that's my issue. I don't believe in 'good/evil' etc. Studied too much philosophy, infact this game is the beautification of pure nihilism. Still as a hyperreality it is confined to 'rules', influenced by what we see in reality. Just ultimately depends on who governs those rules.. are we lovey dovey Walking Deaders........ Paranoid fucks....... Ultimately will be decided by what is best for DayZ, not us. I'd like to think we can compromise before that decision is purely decided on what makes the most money.
