  1. So one of the biggest, if not the biggest problem right now is hackers being able to control a server more than admins without any real work. What DayZ really needs is a better system to handle these problems and detect them and not at the client level. My suggestion is to analyse the inbound commands being sent. My suggestion assumes that basic script commands cannot be disabled (kill, change location, ect). Detect Mass Deaths or Commands being issued As a developer myself I would assume it would be fairly easy for The Hive to detect that most to all players in any given server just died from a non PvP interaction. In fact there actually should be a highly detailed log of death on each player (died from (killedby|lackofblood|bluntinpact|command|ect) by (zombie|player$PLAYERNAME]|command[COMMANDNAME] on [TIMESTAMP]. The Hive should be able to detect a unnormal percentage of the server just died (probably anything over 35% of a server with X amount of players. This policy would have to be adjusted by number of players. Seriously detection could be done at a server level, not just a client level. If Target can determine if someone is pregnant based off their purchases automatically, we can detect mass commands being issued on players. The only problem is detecting this and intervening with the death. My solution is the next solution. The other problem may be that hackers could then just slowly kill players rather than instantly kill all players in a server. Purgatory in between life and death Assuming we can detect that the players were killed by a command, we need to be able to restore their life back to their past location, condition, & with their loot. The problem, I assume, would be the ability to detect and handle these before a player reconnects or respawns. Rather than kill a player instantly and take them to the "You Are Dead" screen. There needs to be a passing of your life that lasts 10-20 seconds. In this timespan The Hive should have enough time to look for similar deaths in the same server, log how the death took place, ect. During this check it needs to make sure that it only finds players killed by the same cause (so if a hacker dies, they cannot just kill all the players to restore their player). If a determination was found that the player didn't die, it needs to either kick them from the game, show the death screen, or simply revive them before they pass to death. As long a the player is flagged to not be killed then there shouldn't be a need for any extra work to retain the player information that they may have died. They could be flagged as in purgatory as a seperate condition than alive/passed-out/dead.
  2. I posted this to Reddit as well (hence the watermark).

    Anti-Hack CounterMeasures

Yes, this would definately be part of this but we, as players, still need a way to continue playing without ragequiting.

Good point, how are these not issues with Arma2 multiplayer as well? If they are, is this just a display of the problems that can easily exist on their platform?

I don't know that it would require a backup plan as much as a system to sort through the deaths as they come in and flag them as they go. So rather than saying Oh, they are dead, mark them as dead and them if they need to go back and set them to alive (during the purgatory phase) it can do so without wiping the player's current data row.

    Possible fix for item duping.

A common problem with duping (I've done by accident) is to perform actions while the server is under stress. I've created many extra water bottles from trying to fill water when it was lagging. I always drop the extras, but it's not hard to do. Server is still far too trusting to the client.

    CB radios

I'm not damning players with skype or ts. I'm only looking for the ability to talk to players I couldn't before. CB <--> CB. Not to talk between my own players.

    Preventing server hopping

I think some Hive <--> server balance is the answer here. have them both track the stuff and watch for patterns.
  10. Methinks you misread. We are saying to increase zombie spawn.

Always a great idea to have code in place to check this stuff. I wonder how much of this is arma2 server dependent and how much is actually able to be modified from Rocket's perspective.

    CB radios

I like the idea, I'm always for promoting ingame communication that doesn't require metagaming (using teamspeak/skype). This isn't an RP server, but the fact that you can talk to other players is an awesome idea. Think outside of the VOIP and try playing the game for the immersion. "this is chickenfucker, I'm currrently between a rock and a hard place and I've managed to break my leg. Anyone out there?" "chickenfucker this is cliche_CB_handle35, we happen to hear you. What's it worth for some morphine, to ya?" "god damn, it's good to hear someone out there. I'll give you some beans and a macaroni for it" "sounds like a deal, where you at" ... you get the idea.

    Strip cars for parts

There should be a fairly high rate of failure in scavenging the parts and a modifier if you have a toolbox. No Toolbox 90% failure rate (you tried to remove the ______, but it's too damaged to be used.) With Toolbox 70% failure rate (you sucessfull removed ______ from the _______.)

Thanks for summarizing what I already said. I didn't have any schooling and I came up with this idea.

Removal of Sniper Rifles and Silenced guns.

I have a better solution for you. Uninstall and then you won't have to deal with those mean ol' players any more. Seriously this is such a game breaking idea. There is a balance in a team that having a sniper cover you can save your life. Snipers aren't easy to use as you need to do math if you don't have a range finder. Silenced guns and ammo are hard to come by as well. It's a nice advantage to have.
  16. This is all I ever do anymore. Look at the next town or my horizon to find players. I wouldn't mind a fix here. I do assume that the server should have a harder time dealing with the new load of zombies.

Yep, I logged into a server last night, my body wasn't even ingame yet and I died. Seriously upset. I found an ATV and was finishing repairs.

    Preventing server hopping

I think a best case scenerio solution is to save last known location and times on each server. So then a server can say if you were online in the last 20 minutes on this server then you will return to that last known position. Essentially you should never disconnect form a server in this time frame and have moved locations on another server. Simple, fairly easy to implement imo, and should be effective.

    Pending Update: Build 1.7.2.5

How about some updates against hackers killing every player in the entire fucking server. I've died 3 times to hackers now. I love dayz and I'm addicted to it, but seriously this PISSES ME OFF.
  21. Server: US 21 Time: APX 12:03 AM What happened: Was playing in a server and suddenly I died along with every player in the server (screen was flooded with PLAYER was killed. I couldn't get fraps open in time to take screenshot so I don't have that (sorry). Not sure if it was the server admin or if something else happened. However I lost a lot of wonderful loot items (including my sweet M107).
  22. Excuse the developer for creating a game that wasn't intended for everyone, it's not like you have to play it. If you really find yourself with this much free time why don't you make your own zombie game where meat doesn't exist and everyone frolics in the fields holding hands and smelling dayz (pun intended).

    Build 1.7.2 Rolling Update

I like the new difficulty, but I don't like the fact that sneaking into a town is near impossible without crawling in at 200 m out. If the zombies had two levels of aggro I wouldn't mind, but just start running in a horde when your not doing anything noticeable. There is hard and then there is wtf. Ok, glad it worked for you, but I logged in, server says I died instantly (no death screen), I spawned in debug losing everything, I lost my Ghilliei suit earlier today by logging in (not a huge deal, but disappointing). No matter what I do I lost everything. I could have ran back to town, but that doesn't do much to help the fact I lost all of my stuff. Please take your ignorant assumptions elsewhere.

    Build 1.7.2 Rolling Update

I've had nothing but issues with this update and I even was sent to the debug forest: losing all of my inventory (not to mention the ghillie suit I lost with the update). The zombies aggro is too much now (you wake an entire city just walking around the edges). Kinda game breaking. :(
